Google announce roll-out of April update of Google Play System Update (GPSU). My S21U still shows the version of March 1st 2022. Checking for updates replies that my device is up to date.
According to Googles release notes the new update should bring several critical fixes and improved security, connectivity and stability.
So I want it!
My questions:
‐ does Samsung play a role in distributing these system updates, or is it pure Google who pushes the updates?
‐ Can I force the update to be installed? How?
- Did any S21U user already received the April update?

Regarding 2., in APKMirror I can find Google play Services. I believe that is not the same as Google Play System update. Am I overlooking something?
edit: correct typo PKMirror iso APKMirror
Oh, just understood what you mean. This is truly a system update. You can try flashing gapps, however, I've never flashed them over OneIU

Search "main components" from Google on APK mirror. This is the system update.

Pure Nexus ver 7.1.2_r17. Beans Gapps 610. I tried to download the Google Camera but unfortunately it isn't listed in Play store. Trying to load it from Mirror APK it tells me that it isn't supported for my device. I have tried a couple of different versions but still the same message. I was wondering if anyone has come across this with this particular ROM. I have searched but can't seem to find anything.
Thanks
Mini or full? Install the full package to get the camera. Also, don't use 6/10 but 5/9. 6/10 has issues.
Try this then, it's the latest Google Camera for N6

Here it is in the play store
Just to clarify for the benefit of the audience, the OP is saying he cannot see the Google Camera in the Play Store. He's right. Google hides the app in the Play Store if it isn't already installed on the device. This is in addition to the requirement that the device be a Nexus or Pixel. Thus, if Google Camera is important to you, and with HDR+ I feel it should be, install the full Banks GApps package instead of the mini package. After doing so, Google Camera should show up on the Play Store again.
Of course, installing the APKMirror copy of Google Camera may also work, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks for the explanation. I didn't think of it that way but that makes complete sense. In the future I will install the Full instead of the Mini to avoid this issue. The Mini was install this time around because of issues with the Full version June 10th.
The reason I keep that link is it allows me to use the mini package, when the only additional app I want in the full is the camera. Works every time. Different strokes for different folks ☺
True. The one difference between installing it through the Play Store and installing it using Beans GApps is where the camera gets installed. With Beans GApps the camera is in /system, rather than /data.
I wonder why Beans hasn't done an Aroma installer? It would mean only having to make one package, and would give the end user some control over what apps are installed.

It has something to do with the build script. It's referred to in the current TBO release post.
Having read what you linked to, that seems interesting. I've dabbled with Aroma, and I think the issue boils down to Beans' usage of just an updater binary, like what Chainfire uses in SuperSU.
There are kludgy ways to get around this, but as I install the full package anyway I'm not going to try and find out.
Speaking of GApps, did Beans ever get the issues with the 6/10 package resolved?

From numerous posts referencing Beans and other GApps with much confusion, I think it comes down to Beans using a unified package and script for both arm and arm64 that simplifies things for him (not to mention the less informed user ).
He helped the TBO guys adapt the unified arm/arm64 script and they are abandoning Aroma, so my guess is the two are not compatible.

Apologies if this has been answered already - I've searched and not found an answer.
I've just received my China version; having installed Google Play, is there any way to force a restore of a Google backup of my previous phone - it would be so much easier if it could (re)install my apps and settings in one go. I can't seem to find a way to do it.
Thanks
Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I think restoring from Google backups is only possible during the initial configuration. And China ROM doesn't have Google Play 'out of the box', it needs to be installed by the user. So I'm afraid it's not possible. But again, I could be wrong.
I would recommend unlocking the bootloader and flashing either the Global ROM or Xiaomi.EU. Preferably Xiaomi.EU because Global ROM is significantly behind with updates.
I couldn't test it but if you have installed google playstore and the google app basic android should be available. Then you can "restart" the inital setup via adb command:
adb shell am start -n com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardActivity
That should run the google setupwizard. I can't try it as I have already .eu rom on my phone installed and there it is available from scratch.

If it doesn't, I only need to last as long as installing another ROM, but of course have to wait a week for that to occur!

As it happens I just tried it and got an error message:
Starting: Intent { cmp=com.google.android.setupwizard/.SetupWizardActivity }
Error type 3
Error: Activity class {com.google.android.setupwizard/com.google.android.setupwizard.SetupWizardActivity} does not exist.
If that means anything to you and if there's an easy answer, I'd be grateful for the help. If not, don't worry
Ah - this is what I was afraid off. With installing google playstore the google setup is still missing. You could try the Android Setup Wizard from Google from APK mirror. This should install the missing files. But I really can't confirm that this will work. In worst case you need to do a factory reset. Or you just install the .eu rom and all problems gone .

Damn. So it is missing something more. Then I'm out of options to be honest. Maybe someone else has an additional idea how to get around that. Or you really think about switiching to .eu rom. Sorry.

use Xiaomi's mi mover app on the play store and you install it on both the previous phone and the new one, it will move everything over for you. I have been using the built-in migration app for all my phones, and they work just as well as google backup

Thanks very much - that is the solution. I had tried to use Mi Mover before using Google backup/restore but it kept failing.
The trick was – as you say – to install a fresh version from the Google play store and not to use the version which was already installed on the phone from the xiaomi App Store.
Once I did that, it worked a treat!!

Hi guys,
I'm on the March build and can't find a way to set the new battery widget as shown in the video:
https://fdn.gsmarena.com/imgroot/news/22/03/pixel-feature-drop/gsmarena_003.mp4
So, what do I have to do?
Thanks!
Same issue here. Hopefully, it's just because this feature will be rolled out after the system update (?)

I found a solution. If you have Android 12.1 (build nr. SP2A.220305.012) installed, you just have to wait an update of the system app called "settings suggestions". I wasn't patient enough, so I grabbed it from APK mirror. After updating the app the widget is available!

You are lucky.
I have a pixel 5, updated to March security update and with Settings Services up-to-date but no widget available.
I was in French, so I switched to English (without rebooting) but still no widget.
I guess I have to be a little bit more patient.
Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing
I request english app center backed up from global rom cause i have the ch one .
I guess there's no other language version of the Lenovo App Center, since it's only for the cn market which the Play Store is unavailable.

Huh? You can officially install Google Play Store on CN version. Go to Settings > System > Google Play Services - turn on.
Then install Google Play Store apk.

Kinda confusing... are you currently in China? If so, then yes, Play Store is blocked in that country.
If you are outside of China (anywhere in the world) and using CN ROM, there is NO issue with using GMS and Play Store after installing the necessary Google apps. It is not bloked/firewalled whatsoever without the need to convert to Global ROM.

Motorola is generous in including the GMS. Even then there are some services still prohibited/missing from the phone like voice matching and android auto, which cannot be simply solved by installing apks.

The voice matching is not working because Motorola installed their own voice assistant (LeVoice) using the hotword "hello moto".
I can simply install Android Auto apk and it works flawlessly.

When you say andorid auto works flawlessly, did you need to root the device? I have the x30 pro cn version and i have android auto install but never worked. I get the error 22 because the android auto is not a system app. Did you do anything for it to work? Or just installed the app?
