I hear some people almost never use the qwerty keyboard and just use the numkeys with t9 instead.
So, how often do you use your qwerty? Do you use it at all?
I use the keyboard a lot. If I need enter more than one word, I use the qwerty. I write many lines of notes, IM... Now I dont wait until I come to computer and reply to mails imidiately. It's really useful for me.
(Maybe you could make a poll. )
lots
I use mine everyday. Got free sms's every time i load my sim so i type a lot and spam all my m8's hehehe

Me. I hate numeric keypad with T9 - vote for keyboard! 1+
I disabled the XT9 garbage (it was so annoying with the qwerty). The keyboard is why i bought the phone.
It's good though having the phone pad for quick input. I used to have a Wizard and hated having to slide the keyboard out every time I needed to input something (I know there's a soft keyboard on PPC but they're far too fiddly!).
One other thing I like about the Wings QWERTY keyboard is that you can access most of the secondary keys by a long press instead of having to press the Fn key first. I thought it only applied to the number section but discovered by accident that it works on all keys with an alphabetical base key.
All I need to do now is work out how to map different function keys - I use '&' a lot but having to press Fn+Sym, then navigate the symbol grid is a pain.
I have same problem. I am spanish and I use spanis characters that can only be found in Symbol screen... and it takes too much time!. Any way to make shortcuts?
****ing Never
I use the Resco Keyboard Pro.
Does Resco Kb Pro works for Smartphones? I have only found it for PPC... and idea where I cand find it? How does it solve the problem?
Thanks indeed!

yeah your'e right need a ****in stylus. sorry went brain dead there.
There should be a way to redefine little blue simbols in keyboard buttons so I cand obtain spanish accent or spanish N instead of, i.e, ; or whatever.
Any other idea?
Thanks for your try, anyway...
sometimes i type fast and then the keyboard cant catch up with me. its really annoying. why cant the stupid processor not keep up with the input?? i also noticed that while im typing fast, some letters are missing.
does this happen to you too??
is there any solution?
I really didn't notice that; I am not very fast typing... my problem is that I can not type with XT9 while I am looking to the screen to ensure that the word choosen is the word that I want to writte... well, I can, but it's a very slow procerss.
This is ehy I like to writte with ABC, but having the option to input spanish characters in a fast mode ...

Is that a special kind that you insert somewhere?
The X1 manual talks about handwriting recognition but I can't seem to make it work. There's a dearth of info on this feature in the manual. Coming from a P990i I expect that when I'm in an input field and tap the screen with my stylus I should get the cursor and the < on the right so I can scribble but no. Is it wishful thinking or do I need to learn new tricks?
You need to learn slightly new tricks.
When in an input mode you should have a keyboard icon with an arrow. Click on the arrow and change the method to Letter Recognizer.
You now have three boxes along the bottom. Capitals go in the first, lowercase in the second, third does numbers. Very similar to the P990i with Above, Below and On the arrow.
Some letters will be different but you'll learn them after time.
There are two offer method, transcriber which allows you to write full words on the screen, but I find this is harder as you make errors half way through and then have to delete complete words.
Or Block Recognizer which is similar to the first method, but the letter inputs were more different to the old UIQ phones.
Do you have a Swedish ROM? In that case you don't have letter recognizer installed by default! You can find it with a simple google search!
Thanks artesea.

It does take some learning. Just tried it and it's quite good. I have to learn to use the spaces for the three modes. It was quite straight forward on the UIQ as the "scratching" went where you wanted to write. In time I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.
Can you please more specific? I can't able to work that..

Are you using a stock ROM? Most custom ROMs disable/remove Letter Recognizer by default
Speechy Professional is ALSO available in the Marketplace, see towards the end why you may wish to upgrade. Do note that Speechy/Speechy Pro have the EXACT same Features and ZERO Limitations as some have been going around trying to claim limitations exist (Note: Currently not valid as originally once planned or "announced" but was never released with limits, so we feel any word about limitations should be put to rest as officially it never existed and hope to clarify that as originally we did so to gain more exposure, which we successful obtained and apologize for anyone who bought in to it).
You may also hear our App is just "like" everyone else's or doesn't have "this" but this is a Translator meant to have 1-true idiot proof task, to allow you to speak and translate as accurate as possible (even if it may take a few moments). So go on, take the FREE download, doesn't cost anything but your time and read below while you're download. After using our App, you determine if our App is truly no different than the others. Hope this clarifies anyones concerns and confusion.
What is Speechy...?
A translator you can really talk to, literally. Say what you need and Speechy will translate and speak out loud what you said in English for others to know what you really want to say in a foreign language. Great tool even if you're just trying to learn the language to prepare for your trip.
So when you're at the Airport and no one speaks English and you don't know the native tongue, you can say "How do I get to Terminal B" and know someone who speaks one of the 15 pre-bundled languages can help you. Why hire a Translator when the best Translator is at your fingertips and you're in control!
How is this DIFFERENT?
1). Mic/Recording Input
Simple! Our voice input function that grabs the audio you speak either close or whichever distance you may be and takes the input from the phone Mic. When using your "Mic", we've designed our own Equalizer that is built-in that actually has various functions and decreases/increases pitch, balance, volume and other aspects to obtaining the audio you speak in which it also breaks it up in to a bunch of "chunks" and sending it via Internet (Wifi Connection or 3G Required) in multiple parts to then have it run through a Speech Server where it is analyzed in each segment of your Mono input (Never Stereo).
2). Cloud Speech Server
When your multiple chunks are each processed one-by-one for better understanding, they are first run under another synthesizer to turn everything flat (Bass, Treble, Pitch/Frequency, etc...) and another technique that let's us better understand what you say, even if you have an accent to the best we can and as each few moments are separated, it allows us to promptly guess what each word is being said and if quickly it fails a built-in/server-run spelling database (Query's originally from Bing!) and if it is still valid it will continue on to check to see if it can find the next best thing using the 2nd Dictionary aka "Phrases" which uses a form of AutoComplete for quicker search which is why you may notice sometimes a little bit of lag time/timely response as it is doing it's very best to try and be 100% accurate.
e.g. "This is a test" may normally be recognized by other Speech Services as "This is a pest". In this case the word "pest" could be valid as it is a US-English Dictionary word but we have one last pass-through that has most common American English phrases that currently only has around 2,000+ but as people report more what they've tried to say and hasn't worked we can add it to the 2nd dictionary for accuracy.
3). Translated Voice Download
Once everything is assumed to be as accurate as possible it will then pass the string through the Bing Translator API and in this case grab the audio from the Bing Translator service and pass it through the App as a "Stream" to download it temporarily (removes every translation or application closing/back button pressed) but only to prepare for output in Mono or Stereo (where available).
4). Translation Output
Once the file is available it immediately streams back out at a specific pitch, frequency, mono playback but made a synthesizer that barely modifies the output a little more to make it louder and easier to understand/sound better on almost any device but more important if Stereo headset/playback is available where most App's just set Mono to Stereo for output but we playback in mono and modify it just a tad and again prepare it if Stereo should occur (Balancing the L/R Channels) but most may not even hear the difference in a loud room but the very least more clear.

My assumption:
It only uses English as input language. Hence, no option to select input language. The list of languages is for output language.
Note: It would be superb if you include the output text too. It would be a great language learning companion then
nice app!
Do you mean output as English? If yes, the reason behind it is the input at this specific moment only allows English and writes what you said so you're aware of what will be translated.
At this moment however, Spanish input is being worked on, in which case English output will exist for that Profile but Spanish output won't.
Thank you,
Lance

First, thank you for your kind words.
The 3rd edition in the "Options" section actually has the ability to dictate / translate to text but we tried to stay away from it but too many have asked for it, so we do what people want and adding it, which if you don't want to go to options every time for text translation, you can enable "Auto Text Translate" plus other stuff. Big update.
Also, we have a "What'd I Say?" feature that stores what you're said, would you ever wish to use this?
Thanks,
Lance

That would indeed be a nice update. "What'd I say" would also be a wonderful addition if one has installed the app to learn a language. If you design "What'd I say" as a table with columns of input text and output text and a small speaker icon that speaks out the output text, it would be awesome.
Note: Please consider using text as input if you are planning another update. It helps if you do not have a US English accent. Or am I asking for too much?
Thanks.
I appreciate your input, the release for the storage of items spoken is a bit similar to what you've described.
As for input of text, the only reason this may not occur is because too many of these types of App's already exist and trying to stay away from non-verbal input but believe it or not, a lot of people can't spell properly and when they manually input (Especially via Mobile Keyboard), if the word doesn't exist or in our case can't pass 2 "Dictionaries" it will fail and sure enough, you'll be seeing how horrible our App is and "They are lucky we can't give them 0 Stars" which it's not always about the rating but to continue development someone has to use it lol. *I have now wondered off the site and thought about what you've requested and took a look at other 'Translators' and the methods seem all the same which maybe it is something we need to maybe add to make a difference and offer a "Fix What I Said" as a small text-link for a custom Popup to request manual input and force the "Chat" keyboard to allow pre-determined words/instant spell check as maybe not everyone can pronounce specific words.*
The current edition was in fact intended for anyone who spoke "English" only and only because the current Microsoft Speech Server that we have doesn't support other languages, which is why we're building our own "Add-ons" to an already existing technology but the current language is Spanish to hopefully recognize and after that, whatever other languages are requested and if we can find a voice actor that is reasonable, hopefully develop it.
Also, you're never asking too much. If you download ANYTHING of ours, I hope you'd recommend anything you'd want or think you'd like to have added. We're trying to be a little bit different than the others and actually listen to what our End-Users say as we have nothing without the EU's, like you and makes your responses invaluable.
Again, thank you very much for taking the time to respond back, I and the other guys do appreciate it.
Thanks,
Lance

It is always nice to see developers respond readily to user suggestions. It is true that some users misspell words and then curse the app in the review section. The instant spell check/suggest(Google style) would be a nice way to combat this issue. Something like "Did you mean xxxx" after a failed search would also be nice.
It is good to see that you are working on a Spanish input version. I do not know if there is any demand for Hindi(India's national language), but if you ever need voice for it, then contact me.
Thanks.

Once again thank you for your input and kind words and the only reason for Spanish input is because in America, the country is being overran with Spanish Speaking immigrants that have no real desire to learn English and if we can't force them or any [non-English speaking] to speak the language of the country, maybe this will help and work with local governments on providing the solution and not have what's current, a problem (This way as they speak we can translate it ourselves as you must assume they won't have the software).
Sounds harsh, sure but the truth hurts and no one else is trying to resolve the issues or help prevent/alleviate them. As for Hindi, off hand I am unsure what our demographics are for this but I know we get more Indian downloaders than Italy, France, and etc...
Either way, thank you very much for the offer and I will pin you to our memo server as a possible voice actor/coach. Also we all agreed we're going to put in the ability to type what you want/fix what was spoken. We'd like to give you a shout out in the about page, what name would you like?

Speechy 1.2 Update
Look for the new Thread labeled Speechy 1.2 Update.
Hi All,
The main problems of the Windows Phone dialler is that you cannot copy and paste phone numbers from SMS/Mails etc and paste it in the dialler.
I have developed a custom dialer with the following features. All the features are integrated in ONE page, rather than across multiple pages.
Copy and Paste Numbers to Dial or Text
Search Phonebook directly from the dialler
T9 based address book name search from dialler keypad
Phone number search from dialler keypad
Ability to Edit number before call
Send Contact Number via Text
History of 500 dialled numbers also in the main page.
Search, Copy paste, History, all in just page.
Download the app from Marketplace here

Now it supports only English T9, to support other languages i need to mapping of keys and alphabets, e.g. 2=abc etc, once i have that i can support other languages
Can someone give me the mappings of other languages so that i can make it work with other languages?
Thanks for this dialer. Don't understand why this isn't a standard feature (sorry, just switched from Android to WP7 2 days ago).

Hello all,
I'm not sure if this is general or off topic. Please share as I would really love assistance with this. I would like it to get to the right person/people.
You all are great at what you do by the way.
If you don't mind me giving you a little history/herstory lol behind my request.
The other day I ran into a young lady which I lended assistance. I found she didn't speak English. I then attempted unsuccessfully to use a translator app to communicate with her. Thing is I couldn't understand the language she spoke to input the correct language to translate.
Which brings me to my dilemma. Does anyone know of or wouldn't mind developing an app to assist with people with communicating though you do not particularly know exactly what language they speak.
I would be so very grateful for your help thank you for your attention and assistance.

Let's hope for the best. Don't cut it off before it has had a chance to be attempted.
Well I guess that it's surely doable, just make the app use the Google speech recognition to determine the language being spoken.
Yet it means that you would have to somehow let the lady know that you want her to talk directly to the phone

Didn't say it wouldn't require some tinkering here and there... I bet it would work like all the song recognizing apps, I mean TrackID or similar. Just record a few secs of the incoming sound, compare it with the database and boom, your amigo sprechst français

Though truthfully I was thinking more along the lines of letting your conversational partner simply either type (so Google can recognise it) or select their own language in the app. You can go a long way with pointing and gesturing.
