the bootloader is the problem. it's locked.
hello!
my old xiaomi mi max 3 for my number +46739***2 broke, it’s stuck in an infinite bootloop and i just got my new xiaomi and i see it’s still a pain to unlock the bootloader i still the have same sim card and number and that sim card is in my new phone.
so, i start the program, enter email and password, next screen has send sms verification, i click sure, send it to my number and then a prompt pops up as an overlay on top forever showing "checking for security issues...." and i can never get past this step.
i had this problem for days now.
now i signed into my mi account on the web instead and opted for deleting my account with phone number and just creating everything from new but at the final confirmation stage i aborted, closed the web browser and started the unlock tool again and this time for the first time i got to the unlock screen with instructions on rebooting the phone into fastboot and yes yes agree, so verifying device counting up to 100% in green text but then at the unlocking stage i got "couldn't unlock" unknown error. try again later (1004).
i try using the miflash_unlock but after the login i never recieve the sms for verification, my number is +4673***162 so why don’t i ever get the sms? i tried resetting and filled out the form to the best of my memory but recieved this sms shortly after:
"Hi 18******40! Your request made on 5/1/2022 to reset your security questions has been unsuccessful. Here''s why that may happen: Your current region is different from your frequent sign-in regions. The info you provided is incomplete. Add missing info and submit again." I can't find this form anymore. does it go away after X amount of failed attempts or has everything gotten so confusing for me that i just forgot?
whats going on here? do i have to delete my mi account, buy a temporary prepaid sim and pretend to do everything from scratch at the very beginning. By registering a new account and hooking up a new number to it!?

well, from my account at account.xiaomi.com:
Recovery phone
+46 739***162
Recovery email

under "manage devices", my new phone is there, my old is not, should be no confusion?
the first link you posted has this in it's text "https://en.miui.com/unlock/" and when i click it firefox auto downloads this empty text document: -hbmtAl5 and when i try again this: 7U3VK_UW and again: uBIUN7p- and just for fun one more try: ALBK-TFl. xiaomi is having a lot of odd issues here, like some ghost in the machine weirdness.
Anyway, to link 2 you provided: the xiaomi cloud, yes I'm logged in on the phone and go the page up here on desktop firefox as well. 1.09gb used. (i read somehwere i had to login on the phone, sync messages without wifi using the phone data).
their forum is useless, i login, create a topic and click post and get redirected to "you need to login to post", a vicious circle jerk of perpetual hell. their global customer support only gives me copy paste replies with no answer at all. i think maybe this will be the last xiaomi i buy, but bought it i did so i have to salvage the situation for now.

Which version of Mi Unlock are you using?
You can download versions of Mi Unlock on my first link or here
https://www.miui.com/unlock/index_en.html
i tried a few different versions including the latest:
miflash_unlock-en-6.5.421.8
miflash_unlock-en-6.5.406.31
miflash_unlock-en-6.5.224.28
miflash_unlock-en-5.5.224.24
adb-setup-1.4.3
latest_usb_driver_windows.zip
and i checked that MIUI on the phone is updated.
oh and since windows 10 route wasn't working i looked up this for linux "XMT2_Linux_20.7.28.run" but no more luck there.

Perform this at your own risk. You will LOSE all data on your phone.
( I'm not responsible for any damage to your device )
This guide will walk you through the process of Unlocking your bootloader on Xiaomi 11T Pro.
Prerequisites:
Backup all the files on phone as we will be resetting the phone to unlock the bootloader.
Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers from here (Select the latest) -> https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool )
Install drivers for Xiaomi 11T Pro -> https://droidfilehost.com/download/download-xiaomi-usb-driver-for-windows
Download MiUnlock Tool -> https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html
Unlocking the Bootloader:
Go to "About Phone" in Settings and keep tapping on MIUI Version until it shows "You are now a developer"
Navigate to "Additional Settings>Developer Options" and enable "OEM unlocking"
Make sure you have a Mi account and your sim is inserted. In Developer options, select "Add account". Now your Mi Account is linked with your Device.
On your PC, open MiUnlock Tool and login with the same Mi account you have used login to the tool.
Power off your phone and boot into fastboot mode by long pressing the power button + volume down button.
Connect your phone to your PC and click refresh in the MiUnlock Tool
After clicking unlock, it will give your a wait duration. (Generally 168 hours, there's no known way to bypass this wait time) You can continue to use your phone meanwhile, but remember to backup before clicking unlock after your wait time is complete.
After your wait is complete, click unlock and then click reboot. Your phone will now reset and boot up.
Enjoy.
Is this true about warranty? I think that i read that unlocking bootloader is not reason to void it
I have attempted to unlock bootloader, it ask for 336h wait. Did they changed waiting time from one week to two? Is it because device is quite new and they don't want them to be unlocked?

depends on the Mi Account, is it a new sim or an old one? I checked and added a new one to the device and it gave 2 weeks of wait time. I just added my old one and it gave 7.4 days of waiting.

I just need the adblocking stuff only
You don't have to root to have adblocking. Use private dns.

Use the "driver_install" to fix the issue. Connect the phone both normally and in Fastboot mode. It automatically installs the drivers.
Hi guys, same problem here, Mi Unlock won't recognise my phone. Actually when I connect the phone to the PC in fastboot mode, nothing happens... I've tried to use the solution above but it doesn't change anything. When I click on the "driver_install" nothing happen neither.
On the Mi Unlock software when I go to the parameters and that I check driver installation, it says it can't find "miusbdriver.exe" (something like that). I took the miusbdriver.exe from the other version folder (from the message of arash74 above) but it's a loop : It finds the file but it asks me to reconnect my phone and so on.
Any help would be nice ! Thanks

Thank you Arash for your answer mate, I just did it with this tutorial :
I was stuck at this step actually, I didn't understand that by unpluging and pluging back my phone it would install the drivers !
So now I guess I have to wait 161 hours to continue my unlocking thing but I'm glad I could fix that problem of undected phone, and if it helps someone else here it's also a good thing then.

If you unlock bootloader, no your warranty will not be void. However if you show up to a Mi service center with an unlocked bootloader and a custom ROM, they will consider your warranty voided.

Hi, I am trying to find out the best I am able to but I am having a lot of issues when upgrading to the new MIUI. Everything was fine on 12.5 but when upgrading to 13 it now restarts everytime I put it in my pocket on lay it down. So I wanted to unlock bootloader to download a rom and set it back to 12.5 but I am not receiving any sms and it is very hard to use a phone that is powered off except for when I directly use it. I have developer settings, USB debugging, oem bootloader unlock setting, and the device linked to my account. I am on Chinese stable 13.0.9.0. Any help is appreciated!

The process is simplified and permission is granted automatically. You don't have to fill in any application form or wait for the SMS anymore.
Check this:
1. Settings--- About phone--- MIUI Version (Keep tapping it to enable developer option).
2. Settings--- Additional settings--- Developer option and bind your approved Mi account under Mi Unlock Status.
3. Log into the Mi account which has acquired unlocking permission on your device.
4. When you logged into the Mi Unlock Tool, tap on the top-right gear icon to check the update for both USB driver and Mi Unlock Tool. Make sure you're running the latest version.
5. Turn off your device, press the Power button and Volume - button at the same time to enter bootloader mode.
6. Log into the unlocking tool on PC with the same Mi account. Connect the device to the PC using USB cable
7. Press 'Unlock' and follow the timer/ waiting period shown in Mi Unlock Tool to unlock successfully.

No verification text coming through has been an issue for well over a year now. Something is broken on Xiaomi's end of things, most likely with their system simply no longer being able to text American or maybe even just non-Chinese phone numbers.
Anyway, I too had the phone not work on ATT with the 3G stuff but I was able to fix it by talking to their customer service and getting my IMEI onto ATT's approved whitelist and the phone works perfectly again with full LTE, "5G" and VoLTE. Switching to TMobile may be a temporary and easy fix for now, but TMobile is shutting down their 3G network in a few more months and you may go through this whole thing yet again. At least TMobile doesn't use a whitelist like ATT, which is where the main problem comes from, but you will have to get your phone to simply "force" VoLTE on your device and hope it works on TMobile's end of things. Officially the phone is unsupported on TMobile and their website's IMEI checker says so.

Yeah i probably should have do the same and talk to ATT. Yesterday i wasn't happy about switching to tmobile because guys there give me plan that i definitely didn't ask for and a (free watch as they said) today i noticed that my plan that should have been 75$ a month is 120$ and watch isn't free at all lol
So gonna go to them again soon and talk with them.
But hey, i finally received my confirmation code today and right now in process of installing xiaomi.eu rom
I am unable to unlock my bootloader. When I go to the Mi Unlock Status and click Add account and device, I get the successfully added message, but when going into fastboot and unlocking it, I get "Couldn't Unlock - Please add your account in MIUI's settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status." even though I've already added it multiple times. I have tried waiting over a week and removing and re-adding my account, but I still get the same results. I also have OEM unlocking enabled. I'm using a Redmi Note 9 on the MIUI Global 12.5.3 ROM on Android 11 if that helps. Is there any way to fix this, or am I doing something wrong?

If you try multiple times, Xiaomi servers may blocks your requests temporarily.
Did you try using another SIM CARD and another XIAOMI ACCOUNT ?
Good luck.

Network locked? You need a working network to can bind your account not simply logging in.
You have to go to /Developer options/Mi Unlock Status, turn off Wi-Fi and enable mobile data. As in the referential image:

You can't bind MIUI account using wifi.

Exactly.
Just binding, is not enought.
You need to enable oem unlock and enable miunlock, both on developers settings.

It seems that now you bound successfully your account in Mi Account status, double check if the Mi account is the same from the device and from the Mi Unlock tool, be sure to log in into Mi unlock tool and that your device entered to fastboot mode.
You are blocked for many and many tries.
Just it.
Use another MIUI account and another SIM card.

Use another Mi Unlock tool version and delete all the logs, I guess it is in your main drive, Users/Your-user/Appdata/Roaming/Xiaomi. Again, be sure your device is in fastboot mode, and you are logging in the same Mi Account in the Mi Unlock tool.
was this resolved?
I too am getting a similar issue here
Hai, Ive been trying to unlock the bootloader for my Redmi Note 10 Pro using Mi unlock however I can an error 1004 Unknown error.
I have done so far :
1. Open Developers mode.
2. Activate OEM unlocking
3. Apply the Mi Unlock status
3. Download the latest Mi Unlock Tools.
4. Link the phone to Mi Unlock
5. Go to the fastmode (volume + power button)
6. Open the Mi Unlock tools on PC and getting this error.

7. As shown on the photo it not able to detect the Mi Phone.
8. Even if you try to click on the unlock button it give error. Unknown Error. 1004 Try again Later.
9. I would love if it give option to wait for certain hours but that not seem to be the case.
10. This is my detail about my phone MIUI version :
MIUI Global 13.0.16
Stable
13.0.16.0(SKFMIXM)
Android Version : 12 SKQ1.210908.001
What Ive been trying :
0. Google the solution by put in the error code (all no avail)
1. Unlink the Mi account phone device and link it again (No avail)
2. Wait 72 hours to hopefully able to unlock (No Avail)
3. Factory Reset the phone and try to do step 1 - 2 again (No Avail)
If there anything that can be done I would love to hear opinion.
This is always my most feared moment with this brand. The forced wait is excruciating but at least they let us unlock it... unless you get this generic error crap. The OS reset won't work since it's the bootloader, but I know why you tried it. My best recommendation is scour just the manufacturer-named forums. There must be one solution not tried yet. Googling after that is your 2nd best option. Good luck.

Maybe you can try to run a virtual image for Virtualbox inside the OS you have now.
Windows versions as image you can find here
Or look for family and friends with an old PC

It has to work correctly with newest windows versions.
Firewall could be a problem.
It sounds like driver problem. Remove all phone drivers and reinstall (check to take the right version)

Hi a while ago i unlocked my boot loader and after a long time not using the phone i locked the boot loader,,im trying to unlocvk again using same account andit keeps saying account not authorised. even though im using same account.??
i also logged into mi website to post there and as soon a click post it says banned from posting??
is there anything right about xiaomi that just works??
How do i get over this hurdle of unlocking boot loader again?
Regards
I guess You have to apply again for unlock with MiFlash_Unlock tool and wait 168 hours. If this account is bugged you can try a new account. As far as i know this is the only method to unlock bootloader on xiaomi phones.
so i deleted account and recreated new account with same number now it says please add your account to miui settings > developer settings >mi unlock status...which i have done and it says successfully added but every time i go to unlock keeps saying the same above thing to add to your account....
Are you using latest version Mi Unlock ?
Try uninstall/reinstall Mi unlock tool.

Yes I have tried that. Still no go. What happened was I locked boot loader which then gave me destroyed system error. I got someone to reinstall latest Chinese rom. Phone is all working now but this is the issue I am having. Keeps saying add account to device as mentioned above.

That's a strange issue. I've never had problems unlocking the bootloader of my Xiaomi phones.
Try remove your Mi account (in settings) , reboot , then log in again . Then add back the account in developer setting.
And try run as administrator option , when opening Mi unlock app.

once you added the new account dont add it anymore because you are resetting the 168 hours timer. i think you just have to wait 7 days and try to unlock with the mi unlock tool

Tried that too and reinstalled the rom from scratch. Still same issue. I have a feeling it’s my old number and email associated to that account that might be causing the issue as it’s been used before to unlock boot loader? but tomorrow new email new number. Let’s see. Will update.
Regards.
If you have deleted the old account before creating a new one it should not cause a problem. But yeah delete all accounts connected to this phone number and make a new account with a different email. Good luck buddy! Tell us what happened after that
so made new account with gmail and new number and followed these steps and downloaded unlock tool from here and it all worked finally, now it says wait 168 hours
downloaded unlock tool from https://en.miui.com/unlock/download_en.html
and updated it,
followed these instructions and used us as region when creating account but used uk number
one thing i did was make an account via email first on the website and set region to us, once account was created i logged in at the website and added recovery number through there, then logged in to xiaomi account oh phone and it showed up.
Make a Mi account through Google and set the region to US - it's important to set the region to US... EU gave me the rebind error
Add the Mi account to your phone (settings -> Mi Account)
Set the recovery phone on your Mi account and verify the phone number.
Make sure you have OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging enabled
Go to Mi Unlock status -> add account (make sure you're on data)
In your PC download the latest Mi Unlock Tool (click on the gear icon and check for updates + download if there are any)
In the same gear menu check for USB Drivers and install them
Log into the same Mi account in the Unlock tool
Enter Fastboot on your phone
Unlock (it may prompt you to wait 168 hours, but after that you should be able to unlock)
patiently awaiting now

Well I was this close to selling the thing if this last step didn’t work. But now will install eu rom as that’s what I had before and it worked good.
Only reason I changed to iPhone was it worked better with my Audi as the direction part on google maps on android auto took up quite a fair bit of the screen which was annoying.
Still does but worked out how to change it from the right side of the screen to the left which is a tad better I guess.

Hi Guys
a little update
as I am waiting for the days to countdown to unlock bootloader, I decided to go to work on the current miui14 Chinese rom, I deleted all the installed Chinese apps all the bloatware completely, activated google play services, installed play store, installed all my current apps, duplicated this phone and the home screen layout exactly to my iPhone set up, logged into my cards and banking apps without any issues, installed vanced YouTube and premium Spotify and as well as a couple no longer available apps.. set everything to English, deleted baidu and mifly keyboard installed google keyboard, and its exactly like how I would have it as if the boot loader was unlocked with a eu.rom.
now if I can get all this without unlocking bootloader all through a Chinese rom, why would i want to go through the headache of unlocking the bootloader to install a eu rom which is based on this very Chinese rom I believe?
can anyone suggest any reasons as to why anyone would go through the bootloader headache, unless I forgot something that i do that i haven't done via this route that might pop to mind later.
Regards

I didnt like the Chinese rom because:
1)the search engine (when you swipe up on home screen) is chinese and u cant change it.
2)"Ok Google" voice command was not working (or was buggy) if i remember correctly.
3) There were some other things that were coming up in chinese but i dont remember exactly what.
4) Many apps were not working in the background and i was not receiving notifications even when i locked those apps, put them on "no restriction" and enabled "auto start".
5) I saw many good bonus features that the EliteRom has (gets updates every 1 or 2 weeks, based on xiaomi.eu weekly) and decided to try it. So far i really like it!
But if you are okay with the Chinese ROM, u can stick with it
