Hi
Just plugged my Android 12 Samsung S21U into my Windows 11 PC but nothing showed on the PC. I woke the phone and tapped on the "charging" notification but nothing happened.
Went to developer settings and set the Default USB Config (which was off) to "Transfer Files"
Set USB debugging to be on too.
Still no avail.
Any help?
Is dex working? Or maybe a driver issue?
I've just installed Dex.
Samsung said I should make sure the phone is in the correct MTP when using the dialpad to type in *#0808# - which it is.
Tried installing the drivers from the Samsung website (although the UK version of the site doesn't offer any drivers) - not working.
I can connect the phone using the "link to Windows" but this won't let me connect normally.
Both Windows and the phone are fully up to date with all the latest.
Just restarted the phone and can connect to Dex, although I think it's doing it wirelessly rather than through the cable.
Yes, have tried another PC (another W11 PC).
Yes, have tried another cable (both high speed purple and low speed).
Yes, have tried another phone on both PCs and that shows fine.
What worries me a little is that Device Manager doesn't show anything connected to the PC when I connect the phone.
Turns out you need the official Samsung cable, which is USB-C to USB-C only.
My PC doesn't have a USB-C connector so looks like I'm gonna have to purchase one.
Shame they've gone the Apple route - my old Huawei P30 Pro will connect for data transfer using any old cable, of which we have loads around these days.

Pretty sure this is false. My S21U gets recognized on my PC with a normal USB A to USB C cable.
Agreed. That is just not true, I've used a USB A to C worked fine
Hmm, maybe my three cables I tried are too old?
They're from Amazon and don't particularly state they work with Samsung phones.
The plot thickens.

I'm not sure why but my stock gb rooted galaxy note (LB1) will recognize a connection to any of my computers when I use the samsung usb cable that came with my note. I had the same problem with the vibrant when I had one and I thought when I rooted the note that would take care of this problem but I guess not. I also tried connecting via bluetooth but 2/7 of the bluetooth device drivers refuse to install. Why does samsung do this? It will charge in the wall with any USB cable, but only recognizable to the computer if it's a samsung usb cable? How can I get around this???!!!
And yes, I have latest kies installed, and yes, I have tried re-installing and restarting both of my computers running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
why does samsung do what? mine charges with any usb cable in the pc, the samsung wall charger is crap, i use my htc one

My computers will only recognize my Note if I use the cable that came with it. I have several generic, LG, HTC cables lying around and none of them work with the PC and the Note together. They will charge in the wall, but nothing happens when connected to a PC. I just tried a cable that came with a Kindle and that seems to work fine for whatever reason.
Lol that's funny as I use my kindle cable to charge and sync my note as well as it is twice as long as the supplied cable Samsung gave me. I keep that's as a spare for when I need to charge and I cant be bothered running upstairs lol
So I just got my bootloader unlocked today. I went home this evening to plug my phone into my computer and start installing the custom recovery, only to find that both computers in my house won't recognize the phone when it's plugged in. To my dismay, no USB icon showed up in the status bar, and it just said "Charging". No notification in Windows (or the Ubuntu computer either). Either my cable has gone bad and only charges, or the original cable doesn't transfer data. I've also checked to make sure that Media Device (MTP) is checked. Funny thing was I was using the cable from my OG Droid at work today to charge my phone on the work computer. I know the USB Debugging icon had shown up so I know it was working properly, it won't show up on my computers at home.
Can anyone confirm with me that the original cable is USB only?
No, the original cable should do both. Try another cable though, or use port on the pc. Otherwise it's your drivers on the pc.
You have USB debugging checked in developer options? You have drivers installed on your computer? Making sure to use the USB port on the back of the computer, not the front?

I bought the Tronsmart Data Cables USB-C to USB-A knowing the cable that came with the box was only a charging cable. But still my computer won't recognize my Mi 5 64Gb. Any thoughts on this? Thanks in advance.
P.S. I have also installed the MI PC Suite. Still failing.

MiSuite is useless for now, as this thing doesn't support Android 6.
Just connect the phone with a cable to the Computer. I use the Xiaomi Mi4c cable, the original mi 5 is still in the box but both work to transfer data!
All you have to do is:
-Connect the phone to the pc with Usb C to A
-Change the connection mode from "Use USB for Charging only" to "Use USB for Transfer files (MTP)"
Uh and could you please explain the difference between a USB C to USB A charging cable and a USB C to USB A data-transfer cable? The more details you add the better. I am specially curious about the wires inside of the cable, like the difference between a charging and data cable, by the means of wire connection. (I have never heard of such a thing.)
I have tried doing that but it seems Windows is not installing the drivers for Mi 5 thus getting a "device could not be recognized.
Working great now. Had to change USB ports and used the ones at the rear of my desktop. Thanks!

mine has the same problem with you..
when connected Mi 5 to PC, Mi 5 is not displaying "Charging Only" or "MTP" Option. My PC (Win 7) says "Device is not Recognized".
I've tried uninstalling Mi PC Suite and another ADB program, and changing usb port, the problem is stills..
How do you fix it?
I had the same problem. But changing to a different USB-port on my computer solved it. Check if you have any native USB3 ports on your mobo.
I had the same issue on my Win8 computer (usb2 plugs only) . But it connected perfect on my wife's win7 computer (usb3 plugs)
I finished getting it connected by validating USB debug and waiting very long for driver installation.
USB3 versus USB2 , why not.
Its Not USB2 vs USB3 as I am getting it connected on my Laptop with only USB2 ports but Can't connect on my PC with USB2/USB3 ports while my S7 connects perfectly. I dunno why this is happening and still seeking solution. PTP mode and USB tethering mode works fine though. Just MTP mode connection gets the Yellow triangle and device listing under other devices in my windows device manager.
Install the software driver of the pc and connect as mtp
Dont work anything
I change it to MTP but it comes back by itself to charging mode wtf
Go to device manager after connecting usb to phone
In portable devices, you will find your device along with a caution sign
Double click on your device
Go to driver tab
Then click on update driver
Then click on "Browse my computer..."
Then click on "Let me pick..."
Select MTP USB Device
Install this driver and then your phone will be detected by your computer
(1) Go to C:\Windows\INF
(2) Type "wpdmtp.inf" in search bar provided to the right of the address bar in Windows 10.
(3) Once you found it, just right click on it and select install. It will take a very few seconds.
(4) Connect your device to the pc.

I've noticed on my pixel 3 that my cheap WD USB drive would take longer and longer to mount. After the Android 10 update it would simply crash the stock Files app. So when I got the pixel 4 it was one of the first things I tested as its something I use often.
When I plug it in with the supplied OTG adapter nothing happens for a minute and then a notification saying that it's charging the connected device. If you try and change it to "this device" controls the USB it fails.
Also during my testing I noticed some USB connections would fail. Using a Huawei mate 20 pro USB, it doesn't even register my Chromebook. However if I use the Nintendo switch USB cable, it sees it instantly.
Anyone else facing USB issues?
Not seeing that here, I have a couple Samsung USBC flash drives I use, no problem on device.

Yeah flash pendrives seem okay but HDD self powered platter drives don't work. Tried my dad's identical one and it also won't read.
Huawei mate 20 pro USB to USB-C didn't work when connecting the pixel 4 to a Chromebook.
So I seem to have a very weird issue with the USB connection on my Sony Xperia XZ2 running Android 8.0.0 with the build version 51.1.A.11.51. It refuses to connect or charge on almost any computer. The phone doesn't seem to recognize that it's connected to a computer. The computer doesn't see that my phone is connected either. I tried different USB ports, different computers, and different cables and they all won't connect to the phone. The exception is my laptop, which has a dedicated fast-charging port. When I connect my phone to that port, the phone charges, but it doesn't recognize that it's connected to my laptop and the laptop doesn't see a device connected either. Enabling ADB on my phone doesn't seem to do anything.
The strange thing is that almost all other USB functionality works fine on my phone. The phone charges fine from both a normal power brick and a fast charging brick. Both analog and digital based audio adapter dongles works perfectly fine too. USB based Android Auto does not seem to work, but it still charges the phone when I connect my phone to the car.
I also noticed that if I plug my phone into a computer while the phone is off, it would briefly wake up to the Sony logo and have the charging light come on for a few seconds until the screen changes to the battery percentage. Booting up my phone while plugged in doesn't seem to fix the issue.
The bootloader is locked and it has the stock recovery, so I don't think fastboot works (but I'm willing to try if it fixes the issue).
I've already tried spraying electrical contact cleaner into the USB port and also tried cleaning the port with a small plastic zip tie. I don't know how long my phone has been like that since it's been over a month since I last connected it to my computer. I don't know anything else I could do besides resetting the firmware, doing a firmware update, or sending in my phone to Sony for repairs. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm willing to try it.
