MI 8 Recovery question - Xiaomi Mi 8 Questions & Answers

My screen is broken and I can't touch it at the moment. I want to ask if there is a recovery that uses physical buttons to control it.

This device-Xiaomi Mi 8- is made in 2018, quite "antique" but it is a really good device and I also have one and I keeps it well.
The answer To your question is, either to replace the screen or send it for retirement and purchase a new device.
Also, in a web search you can find a lot of references to handling a broken screen.
(Search for "physical buttons to control broken screen").

[Q] PhonePad flaws on galaxy s i9000

People with huge hands may find it ok to use their fingers on the phone page to switch between phone keys and log and favourites. We the normal dudes have to use the second hand to reach the father end. This in my opinion is a major flaw. These should be given at the bottom of the screen. Also, when we have found a contact on the key pad it doesn't give any option to open the contact to view. I am using dialer one in the mean while but samsung should do something here and in contacts.
Anyone has any other idea?
I haven't got large hands and I can easily navigate my way around the screen. How are you holding your phone?
How to hold it
I just hold it the way I have held all the other phones like hero, I phone, diamond but this is the first one with which I'm not absolutely happy. I mean the phone pad software. I hold it with my right hand with the thumb on the screen but have to really shift hand and stretch to reach the to left corner etc. this also requires many more taps to do the job. I'm telling you it nerds improvement.
No help
This means every one else is happy with the control being up on the dialer. I am disappointed but will have to stick with dialer one which is not bad at all. While stock dialer will continue to haunt us with many extra taps required to do the job.

[Q] Touch Keys Out of Commission

Hello everybody!
To make a long story even longer I just got LCD replaced on my Acer Liquid E by a technician and the cable that makes touch keys on the bottom responsive (4 of them - Home, Search, Go Back, Menu) got damaged and now they don't work at all. All other functions are OK including camera button and + and - volume. Is there any way to reassign "camera" or "volume" button to be used as "home" or "go back" button ? Or is there an app that would allow you to get by without using those touch keys below the screen? If there is something that can be done would you please explain in great details cause I'm so damn it's scary.
Thanks a lot guys!
Not much help or advise from anybody to this point. But that is quite OK cause I happen to do some digging around and found solutions to my problems. One app is called Button Savior (Root). That's what the author says in the software description:
"Requires root
Requires USB Debugging enabled
If you are afraid of breaking your hardware keys or you have broken keys or you simply just don't have any key on your device, get Button Savior to make your life easier.
This app will display a floating software key panel which can be summoned everywhere anytime.
[Features]
(1) Simulates 'Home' 'Back' 'Search' 'Back' 'Recent Task' 'Screen Off'
(2) Can set to always open or auto hide based on user
customizable timer
(3) Two types of trigger action to choose from
(4) Added Camera key and Call key simulation
(5) Customizable trigger position"
Another one is called Soft Home for BarTender. And there are many more options available for similar problems.
Hi, I had your same exact problem! I replaced the screen by myself, and soft buttons stopped working. Since i didn't damage the cable, I'm 97% sure that the problem is the adhesive used to replace the old one. You need a special adhesive that "conducts" capacity (see h t t p : // focus.ti.com/lit/an/slaa379/slaa379.pdf at page 16).
When i tried to open the device again to replace the adhesive, I ruined a flat cable so now I have damaged the upper part of the touchscreen too, so I'm actually hoping to get it repaired under warranty without saying a word about what happened.
Fingers crossed!
I hope it worked for you my friend. Those Acers are nice phones till something goes wrong and you need to fix it. And Fido does not give a flying rat's ass if your phone is not on warranty. Their customer service just vanished over night the moment rogers took over. Very sad, it used to be awesome company to deal with. I got myself Galaxy S Captivate from AT&T, rooted and unlocked it and now using it on Fido.
Trying to replace the Display I didn't even noticed how I brake the flat cable of the AB88_A1__V1.1_Keypad_A_FPC. I have just received the Keypad Cable 50.H480W.005 from mk-electronic.de
Wish me luck putting my A1 device together.
Hello everybody!
I just bought a broken Acer S100, it had broken touchscreen (also the flat was broken) and there was no keypad. I mean, dismounting the phone, there was nothing related to the 4 buttons under the screen.
I just received the new new touchscreen, but still I don't have the keyboard. I read that dicer13 has bought the replacement flat, what I wanted to know is if the keypad is made only of 1 piece or if there are several pieces that are connected by the flat cable he bought.
IN few word, if I order the "50.H480W.005 Keypad cable" will I have everything to fix this phone or that's only a connecting flat between the mainboard and an other piece that goes just under the screen, which is missing?
On the other hand, will you suggest me to stop thinking about the phisical keypad and use, instead, the Buttun Saviour app? It is possible to use every normal function or the phone would be quite "limitated" and unconfortable to use?
Thank you very, very much for your answer!
nowhere is there an exact answer is whether or not it

[Q] Samsung GT-S5300 - home button, display and vibration broken

Hello to you guys from XDA.
The situation is the following: I have a small Samsung Galaxy Pocket that has its home button broken. It simply does nothing when I press it.
And I also have another issue. The phone doesn't vibrate anymore. It all started in the end of the last year... Maybe the vibrator motor is dead?
But I tried to open my phone (and I actually did manage to open it) and I ended up severing the display flat cable. So instead of having only one issue I have three. And the worse: my phone is already out of warranty - it has been more than a year since I bought it.
And I actually found out that the home button is part of the motherboard itself, not a separate piece like in newer Samsung phones, and that the vibrator motor is placed together with the loudspeaker and the GPS receiver in a single, removable assembly.
So, I know that the display can be replaced, but what about the vibrator and the home button? Can they be fixed? And if yes, should I spend my money with that or should I leave this all aside and buy a new phone? What do you guys think?
Note: I'm posting my question here because my phone doesn't have a forum on XDA. I hope you understand.

Quick test of replacement LCD not giving results, can I get some help please?

My phone's screen died. The backlight to be precise. The touch works fine, and even the screen in fact if I look at it under bright light, shows information. I want to replace it. I went and bought a replacement. Opened up the unibody, unplugged the batter flex and the one below it.
My question is:
Can I just unplug my current screen's flex (display flex, top left corner) and plug in the replacement's flex, and check? Because when I do it, nothing happens. The screen doesn't come on, neither do the capacitive keys (they light up on the current display if connected). The touch works fine though and so do the keys (I can invoke Cortana etc using the search key for example)
I am wondering if the only thing that connects the display unit (touch plus LCD) to the main board is that single flex, or are there other contacts that are used when the phone is completely put together. Because the screens I've tested (several) didn't light up at all, just the touch worked.
This would really help because I could then buy a screen and finally get down to the complete required disassembly (which isn't that simple or easy) and rest assured before doing so that my replacement screen works.
A possible reason that the vendors I went to buy the LCD's from gave me was that this might be a version conflict. Though I feel the hardware for these phones is the same. And the only version conflict I have come across would result in the touch refusing to function. The screen would always work (eg Lumia 620 after Lumia Black update) My phone was bought from Saudi Arabia (EMEA) and I am currently and indefinitely in India where I'm trying to get a replacement LCD that works. This shouldn't be a factor though because my Lumia is the RM-937 (international variant) which is the same one you get here.
Any expert help on this would be really really helpful.
PS: I know I could post this in the Lumia 1520 forum, but I'm posting it here in hopes of getting a quick reply as I am sadly pressed for time with my only phone I use for everything including work, not having a working screen. Cortana is really my assistant as she is the only way I use my phone at the moment.

Installed Mi 5S screen in my Mi 5. Any way to make the fingerprint reader work?

So I ordered by mistake the MI 5S display replacement for my Mi5. Thankfully, it worked, and with a little touch of sandpaper in the corners, it fit.
The thing is Mi 5 and Mi 5s have different home buttons. Both include the fingerprint reader, but while Mi5s is inside a capacitive button integrated in the display, the original Mi 5 has a separate physical button. which i cannot fit because obviously, where the hole was in the original display, there is the new button.
My question is, is there any way to make Android recognise the fingerprint reader via software? Like some drivers. And if so, how can I do it.
I have an open bootloader, do I need to "cook" my own ROM and add the Mi5s fingerprint reader driver myself?.
Thank you.
update: So it seems that the home button acts as a back button, and the back button is unresponsive. Not much of an issue since there's always the option of on screen buttons, but it's a shame to lose that screen real state.
I'd like some help in making the back button work too.
