Hey I was wondering if there is a way to get dual boot on my O2X. The type I would love the most is the one of this kind forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1095658
But dual boot with any other system would be great. If anyone are able to make this happen that would be great. I myself have no idea how to make this work so help would be great. Thanks for your attention.
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
i don't think it's possible to do that
the o2x has 400MB of system ROM and most of rom uses up to 350MB, qhere do you want to put other roms?
Hi,
it's not a dual boot, but you can now launch a full linux system from android using the chrooting method, see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151931
That is great
Im having some trouble with the installment of ubuntu though
They have hadded BT5 now that's real sweet to have with you on the go.
seems they are working towards native boot with usb host support that would be the golden price
the hdmi out is suppose to work on it, still havent gotten to test myself though
Anyone tried Bootmanager on O2X?
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.drx2.bootmanager
Dual boot is actually possible. But till my exams end i am not working on that Project.Till then enjoy my chroot images. My exams end on 22nd august. Will start working on Native linux booting after that.

I couldn't resist for €2, but the device is unsupported, so I have to fill in the the details manually. Such as:
- Device
- Sdcard block
- System size
- Data size
- Cache size
As soon as I see a chance to test it properly, I will report more.

Any news on this. I found this interesting but saw our device still unsupported as you have already mentioned. It will be wonderful if o2x gets supported. And the best part is not only dual boot but supports upto four/five including the ROM in phone.
Hi
Also looking for more info on this. Did you get it working in the end?

Now that so many different flavours of GB ROMs available for our device (CM with working A2DP & FM, MIUI-FM expectedly will be working shortly since CM has made it & STOCK ROMs) a Dual /Multi boot will make a great value addition to O2X. Hoping to hear something positive from you.

Its not exactly a dual boot...U will boot into android and then manually run the script in terminal emulator and run linux on top of Android..think of it as a virtual Machine...there will be no sound from within Linux..The android O.S will continue to function as Normal..There will be no effect on the Main O.S...other than Memory consumption while you run the chroot..ofcourse that is to be expected..
oooh, Finally I can post here
Since the HTC Primo has similar hardware I thought that is not impossible to port its ROM to our lovely SE Xperia Arc.
So, I got the Leaked RUU (thanks for Football) and started working.
Actually, I couldn't touch the Sense but I realized that is possible.
I'm telling you what I did.
First, The BOOT.IMG:
I modified it to be compatible with our Arc. I had some problems with it one of them was the size, after I finished editing i found its size was only 3.7Mb and that is less than the correct size which needed by the bootloader but after adding filler file (thanks for DooMLorD) that wasn't a problem no more.
I also added a fully working CWM Recovery .
And end with 5.7Mb Boot.img.
Second, The ROM.ZIP:
After I replaced some files which allow the hardware and keys to work I had the same problem with the size, the system folder is about 500Mb and our device's ROM is only 350Mb !!! I believed that I can remove some files but once i got another idea i realized that wasn't the best solution so i moved the app folder from system to data folder I didn't give it a try before but i guess it will work.
Finally I wrote updater-script and that was difficult but always there is Google.
OK, now I'm facing problems with the file-system .
I've tried YAFFS2 after editing init files and finished with bootloop.
So I think this ROM needs EXT4 /system, /data and /cache .I'm about to format them with EXT4 but I'm a little afraid
So what you think guys ...?
---[Reserved]---
I'm no help here but I hope other more experienced people on this forum give the help you need, and best of luck on this project
Sent from my Arc to your eyes.
amazing! I wish i could help but instead of trying ics first i guess it is better to try older sense 2.1/3.0

and for the link i'll try but not now.

i am working on porting sense to the xperia play.
i already asked blagus, he can't help because his play is stolen
have any one tried to format /system to EXT4 ...?
It wont work because of the way SE devices work
Our partitions aren't the same ass DHD/Devices similar. They've method is completely different to ours, was an effort on x10 but died down due to the fact the devices/bootloader are different

i'm not interested in this and it's seems impossible for me
another solution is dual-boot i don't now if someone working on this or not.

what about porting the launcher and apps over the stock rom or AOSP..... this will make it much stable ...

Using SD card space might help..you can create partitions in sdcard and make a script that boots the os from SD card...is that possible??

What is chroot?
A chroot image is like a Virtual Machine where you are running an O.S within an O.S.The point of this is that you have a whole Linux System running on a phone where you can ofcourse access all the utilities available in Linux.and as it runs inside of android you dont need to flash anything and can use both the chrooted O.S and Android together.
Things required:-
1)Terminal

The Miui i used was on Stock Kernel. The Kernel Does Support Loop devices.Miui is a Rebase of CM but the loop functionality is related to Kernel. So,Yes it Works on Stock Kernel on Locked/Unlocked Bootloaders Both as we are not flashing anything.
Anyway Give Ubuntu a go.

Thanks! Just clarifying things out I haven't meddled with stock kernel that much that's why I am asking. Well the kernel sources sony provided has loop devices disabled by default glad that it's enabled on the official precompiled one.
Anyways! Try packing backtrack that should be alot useful than debian w/ lxde or a classic ubuntu image.
I got backtrack to run on Pro sometime ago when I was still using gingerbread.

Hi! seeing that you're a fanatic of these perhaps it would be useful if I give you these.

Those are packed and reduced sizes of debian & fedora arm images made to fit for chrooting on mobile devices. I made those for my previous device and is very stable already with 256mb RAM
the debian image is a squeeze version. Plus included is the fix for pulse audio. I'm not sure if it would work out of the box for android but with just a little bit knowledge with basic linux stuffs you could get it running perfectly

I do but not that much. Like I said I just only tried backtrack and obviously I use it only when needed
Say do you think it would be possible to include a custom kernel on a chrooted image? It would be cool if we have backtrack here with monitor mode enabled. I think the wlan drivers/hardware of Xperia devices have the capability.
Or also try posting this thread to some other Xperia Sub forums. Arc/Pro users seem to be not very open to these kind of works. They just care on custom ROMs
In short they aren't geeky enough They aren't even that interested in dual booting.

In theory yes its possible.but changes will have to be made to the arm kernel to chroot.when u type uname in terminal the output inside the chroot is different than the android kernel.but I think native booting will be better than chrooting..not being interested is just odd....its so much fun having linux on the go

Actually I know I am going to say something Off-Topic
1) People on XDA are now the people who have got a smartphone just because they can afford one and wanna make their phone look "kewl" than the others with the same device
2) People do dumb things like cross flashing kernels.. They dont even read carefully what the OP says..
3) Running linux on a phone would be the best thing.. specially on an xperia pro where you get a harware keyboard..

It is not a problem but a function.
You can try creating a Magisk module.
But without knowing you go towards the brick.

Lol did you see how that guy from that thread that you're referring to just shamelessly recycled my original descriptions and some binaries from my old SystemRW/SuperRW feat. MakeRW release without even mentioning the original author? Only added me after I caught him red handed. Manners nowadays...
@NOSS8 That's not 100% true. Some talented folks got my old script to work just fine in Android 12 simply by disabling the checkSDK() function inside the script...
It all depends on your hardware and software really. Of course newer Android versions will have new annoying read-only restrictions. That's normal. Having read/write access to your own device is a HUGE security vulnerability in itself
I am still working on updating my old script if any talented developers want to contribute please send me a PM thanks! I am still happy with my old Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC running Android 10 / 11 and that's why my SystemRW/SuperRW feat. MakeRW script has also been frozen in time so to speak. I think once I get my hands on one of those next-gen Samsung or brand new Xiaomi devices it should be much easier to adapt my old script to the new read-only mechanisms. Are there any good next-gen devices that you would recommend in the 350 € range? Thanks! I kind of feel like the Poco X4 Pro isn't really a worthy successor to the X3 Pro

LoL I visit your posts every week
Anyways at your request of a good cheap device. I recommend Realme Q5 pro which is the very cheap Chinese version of GT neo 3T (basically the same hardware). Buy it and use GT neo 3T rom and it'll just works the same. Just about 330$ or even cheaper. I'm having it right now and it's good in almost every aspect except camera and bad stock firmware. Just do a swap and set swappiness at 100 and it runs fine )
Good morning, what rom do you have? Have you rooted it, but do you have custom recovery (TWRP or OrangeFox?
I have a Zip, which is flashed by recovery, which solves the reading problem, and converts the system to writing.

I know this wasn't the question, but in order to use the zip I have to fix the problem, you need custom recovery to flash it.
Thanks for those suggestions above!
The question is : which 'special feature' is preventing you from mounting your device as read/write?
Bash:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw /
if you get read-only error, then immediately after the remount command run dmesg and look for an error related to that mount command you just did. It should give you further info about what exactly is preventing your device from mounting as rw
Also to check if your / (system) partition has the infamous shared_blocks read-only feature you can run this code:
for i in `seq 0 5`; do tune2fs -l /dev/block/dm-$i && echo; done

Guys, i'm going crazy! I have a Rooted Xiaomi 11T Pro, with Unlocked Bootloade, TWRP installed and everytime when i try to Uninstall System apps with Root Uninstaller Pro, the app display this message.
I already grant Magisk Permmission for Root Uninstaller Pro, but still not able to Uninstall System Apps.
I'm on Miui 13 btw
I don't know how to grant permmissions for this app so i can Uninstall system apps. Any help would be awesome!
This is a restriction from A12 or A13 on devices with A/B partitions.

This is a restriction from A12 or A13 on devices with A/B partitions.

Thank you bro! There is no other way of dealing with this RW mount?
I saw in TWRP an option! Mount System as RW!
Is this ok, to avoid installing almost 8GB in my phone because of Lebigmac script?

I would be surprised if this works!
There is another less known way. The traditional way of using termux stopped working, but this is a another way that may work
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /
I suggest you change it back to RO when done. You can also uninstall apps using termux
Code:
ADB shell pm uninstall [package name]
Dynamic partitions usually have deduplicated blocks, you can't just mount rw because the file system is designed ro. either convert partition and create your own super.img with one of the different scripts they all do the same, or find other method to debloat without touching system at all.

It dosen't matter what MIUI Version it is! Xiaomi dosen't allow to mount system as RW in new Xiaomi devices unless you flash the Lebigmac Script!
Again, this is a lie and you know this! I see you are a senior member here, i don't really know why you are trying to spread misleading information here! You are the only one in the world to manage to mount system as RW on 11T Pro from TWRP! Is kinda funny, but hey, that's a nice try!
Xiaomi can have different Android versions for the same MIUI versions.
For example one of their device on MIUI13 can have the Android OS version 9, another Xiaomi device may have also MIUI13 and the Android OS 11. So they have the same MIUI13 but totally different underlying Android OS, hence the above confusion about why TWRP read/write works on the same MIUI version, but with different Android OS version
The confusion is mainly due to users who talk about Mui for the Twrp when the important thing is the system version, A12/13,etc, and/or who post on a thread concerning the Xiaomi 11 t pro (vili) when they have another device and don't specify it.
