Hello hi I'm here i guess - Introductions

Alright. Hello there people, it's nice to be finally meeting the XDA community! I hope I can stay around here for a long while.
I own a Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G960F) - thank my luck for having the Exynos processor on it. I have flashed Noble ROM 2.3 on it, which represents One UI 4.1 or Android 12, for short.
I enjoy poking around TWRP and the custom ROM's since I can further understand how everithing in AOSP works. (no, I'm not looking at the code, just going around menus and settings)
My main reason for joining XDA is because I've been surfing on the forums for some years now and I should've made an account earlier.
There we go, that's pretty much it!

Cyanogenmod on the note 4 snapdragon

Hi Guys ! Is somebody already trying to boot Cyanogenmod ? I'm a reverse engineer, have done quite a bit of development work on CM11 for the S4 I9500 and just ordered my Note 4 snapdragon and planning to run and optimize CM12 on our Snapdragon Note 4

Yes, I'm hoping more developers will switch to this device and will start working on booting and running CM as smooth as possible. I just ordered my note 4 yesterday, I still have to wait 2 weeks to receive my device (I don't live in a snapdragon country), hoping to work together with some other devs but if not, going to give booting CM myself a try and will update and report here for sure !
I'm new to the Note line so I have a question. Does the S-Pen work (just work, non of the fancy features) with custom Roms or do devs need to optimize it?
I would love to see it running Lollipop.
Patience... is the key. It will happen.

The spen will work on any rom but samsung specific apps like snote will only work on samsung based roms. On cm based roms there are alternative apps like papyrus and on the note 2 there were specific spen apps made for cm roms so guess the same thing will probably happen on the n4

"This forum is intended for XDA members to find or discuss development on the Galaxy Note 4, including ROMs, kernels, rooting, mods and much more, specifically for the Qualcomm Snapdragon variant of the Note 4."
Sounds like the right place to me.
Anyway on topic: here's the general porting method: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Doc:_porting_intro and here the samsung code: http://opensource.samsung.com/reception/receptionSub.do?method=sub&sub=F&searchValue=910f
Unfortunately going by what Samsung released previously, we'll need code directly from Qualcomm, did anybody find chipset code for the 805 already ?
And here's the Lollipop Nexus 6 (of course also running snapdragon 805) code:
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/android-lollipop-source-pushed-to-aosp/
Oh and also found this thread, should be helpful to get a start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532873
Anyway, getting my device in 2 weeks, hopefully around that time CM12 will be released too, mabye we should wait for that anyway, but I wanted to start this thread already to function as a knowledge sharing thread regarding getting cyanogenmod running on the Note 4. Going to do some digging in the sources codes already and see what's there and what's missing.

Sorry but I really miss your point man. This is development and most importantly, this is Snapdragon: this thread has really not much to do with Exynos (which most likely will never even run CM12, at least not in the next year), so I really don't see in which forum it would be more ontopic than this one. If you disagree, let me know in which forum you feel it should be posted in and why and if it makes sense, I'll ask the mod, but again, I really don't see it.

Wow, that's really wonderful news, you made my day man, thanks !!! :good: :fingers-crossed: Can't wait to flash it (need to wait 2 weeks to get my hands on the device though, damn, hehe). I've done quite a bit of work on the i9500, Ironing out bugs by reverse engineering stock ROM and my goal is to make CM12 on our Note 4 the best Cyanogenmod experience so far ! Man, really cant wait !
I just got mine yeaterday im super excited. I'm really surprised how steady it feels in hands. It doesn't feel like a Samsung device at all. My babe is already rooted and unlocked just waiting on lollipop

Android 8 for SM-G900F

Hi to all SM-G900F fans and for all developers!
I'd like to introduce this topic to discuss about the possibility of the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to have the new Android 8. Knowing about some amazing improvements that were made to the new Android 8 that will arrive soon, I'd like to know the following:
[ALL FANS] - What do you think about our S5 SM-G900F having an Android 8 ROM? With a booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update, etc.? If that will be possible to the developers apply to the S5 SM-G900F, it would be great or not?
[ALL DEVELOPERS] - What do you think about the idea of creating an Android 8 ROM for a great 2014 phone? It will be possible to do that with all improvements that were claimed for the new Android 8? It will worth that huge effort?
As you can see I love this phone, no doubt about that. But, my wish is to have my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F running Android 8 with all those features that were claimed to have in the new Android OS. If that can be possible, I think it would be amazing for this phone! Because I think the hardware is still good to support newer software and it would be very nice to see an excellent quality/price phone like this to match new ones.
I hope my wish can became true. . .please do not let this phone R.I.P!

"booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update" Idk if it is possible, but it will be quite hard. If android 8 will come out, we developers WILL DO OUR BEST to get the best out of the s5. Seriously, we try our best but stop saying things like this, developers do this things without wanting anything in advance from you, SO PLEASE BE PATIENT! And please don't open threads like this because it is like opening a thread and just saying "i bought a new phone and i am happy (no **** sherlock lol) "!

Yeah, you're absolutely right and I apologize for my behavior. I was only excited about that I just decided to try to share my feelings and thoughts with the XDA Community. I love XDA Developers. It teached me so much about everything related to Android over the years. However, I must follow all the rules and have a good behavior so please feel free to remove/delete this thread.
Once again, I'm sorry for having opened this thread. Just a BIG "thank you" to all developers for the hard work they always do and for all members that share doubts and solutions for everything related to Android.
Best regards,
Lu

It's alright to discuss about such things, but never push devs beyond what they can do. You simply show disrespect and it's one of the main reasons why devs give up creating something new.
Regarding Android 8 (Android O), I don't think it's going to be an easy task to port it to our device. At first, on Nougat was hard enough to make everything working (camera being one of the main highlights, since N has a completely revamped camera interface under the hood, like different process handling and stuff). I can't imagine, what O actually brings to the table and in no way it's going be a walk in the park.
And neither battery life nor camera is going to be as good as stock. Blame Samsung and Touchwiz for their closed source nature.
Even if it happens, camera will still suck. Why flash something that makes your phone worst and unstable, just to say that you have the latest android version in "phone about"
I don't know why you are so hyped about it, it has really small changes since Lollipop...

Of course not. It's about to have all the NEW features in your OLD phone (if possible, of course). I think there are several phones (like the Samsung Galaxy S5) that have plenty potencial to run newer software. Besides that, one teacher I had, one day, he told in the classroom that there's no limits when programming, it only depends on our imagination to create solutions. I'm nobody to say that his words are correct or not, but I believe if there's will and hope that things are capable to be made.

I'd love to see Android 8 on my S5. It is true and it will be always true that the stock TW camera is the best one. It has slow-mo and 1080p60 video (I know that OnePlus camera has 720p90fps slow-mo, but that's not that great comapared to the stock.) But in my opinion, for some picture shooting, it is a great camera with the stock Lineage camera as well. (Maybe one day someone can find Samsung's driver).
Besides that, the S5 runs great with the latest 7.1.2 Android, and I believe that it will run as fast (if not better) with Android O.
Definetly hope for an upcoming information, devs: take your time, make a great rom.
I don't see anything wrong with this topic? The guy just asked if it's possible lol He didn't tell you "MAKE IT NOW!!". About stock android 8 - no. Stock android is boring, even Samsung's version of KitKat has more features than the newest stock android from Google. But some sort of port from, let's say, the Note 8 or the Galaxy S9 would be awesome in my opinion. There already are S8 ports for the KLTE which work with little bugs that will be fixed soon (SkiesROM) or ones that don't really matter that much (DreamUX ROM). Hardware is more than capable. iPhones have super low hardware and Apple updates them for 4-5 years ahead. This means that 'old' 2014 hardware like the S5's can be used perfectly fine even in 2020...with the right developers. BUT, nothing beats official Sammy firmware. Sure, you'll get the new features from android O(reo?) and the new Note8/S9 but bugs are inevitable whereas TouchWiz 6.0.1 is fine in every aspect. I'll stick to my S5 until 2019-2020 and then buy a new S10 or S11 (xd). I just hope that Samsung bring back the features from the S5 like IR blaster, fingerprint scanner on the front, hover view in the gallery and video apps, etc. FM Radio won't hurt too (still envy my S3 Mini for having it, 1%=3h radio) :|

Hello World ;)

My first smartphone was a Windows Mobile. I got my hands on an android phone very late. But it was actually fortunate as the information about how, do and don't was readily available then. After I started to use my android phone I quickly came to know about XDA because I was very much interested in trying custom ROM (stock based) than MIUI. But I was glad I bought this particular model (mido). It's been 4 years since then but I still have my first android phone up and running smoothly powered by LOS 18.1.
I am thankful for the hard work that all the developers put in bringing so much to masses for free.

Hello XDA!

I'm a software engineer that started to develop android apps recently. Though my first experience with android development was... hard to remember the date, I've been a student and we all had android 3.x. A lot of new stuff has happened to android since then
Also going to try to update os version on my Galaxy S9, probably some LineageOS is my only option. So it feels like I should be here and I am happy to be here!

Welcome to XDA!

Hi XDA community!

Hi all!
I'm Daan located in the Netherlands. I've came across XDA for quite some time ago in the search of reviving my old but good Sony Xperia Z5 phone. With the information from all of you guys I've managed to do so. The phone worked brilliantly well with cyanogenmod (lateron LineageOS) for quite some time. After my phone did a unfortunate encounter with the ground I needed to change. Again with along with this forum I bumped up an old Galaxy S5 which is running smoothly for quite some time on Android 11 (LineageOS).
Having enjoyed it for more than a year the S5 didn't liked my sporty skiing activities. It got some waterdamage whereas charging is now only possible via wireless and some sensors are broken. Reason enough to move on! For a few weeks I'm busy to get my old work phone (A8 (SM-A530F)) up and running. It's nice to learn new things about Treble and GSI's (i've never heard about it before) however for me as a newbie also a bit challenging. Now being stuck to my phone a bit more secure with SELINUX I'm bound to ask a question in the forum so that's why I've finally signed up...
My compliments to you all for the good work!
Kind regards,
Daan
