Ambient Display

I was playing with Light Flow yesterday seeing if the supposedly LED works, well now Ambient display does not work. I have uninstalled Light Flow thinking that was the issue. Any clues? Disabled and reenabled AD, still no dice.
I had my phone set to lock after 30m, so Ambient display only works if you phone is locked with some sort of security.
There's no LED notification light on the phone so maybe it messed something up? My ambient display works without and secure lock.
Has anyone tried dyanmic notifications on the nexus 6 yet to see how it works?

It'll work if you have PIN, password or slide. Will not work if you have lock after X minutes of sleep.

I have my lock immediately anyway. I use my Motorola skip when I go out so I don't have to enter a pin or password and it's handy.

It's funny because motos site says it only works with the moto x 1st gen but clearly it works On any lolipop nexus. It works for my nexus 9 too.
Why does the phone have to be locked for ambient display to work? Do any of your devices "breathe" when locked? Mine only shows the initial notification but nothing after that unless I pick it up.

Does your Note 9 on One UI have double tap to wake?

I'm still on a Tmobile Note 8 and just got the One UI update today and was so disappointed to find that it doesn't have the 'double tap to wake' feature. I always thought this update would bring this feature. As I walked into a Tmobile store couple weeks ago and confirmed this feature was on a S10 so I thought this update would do it. Anyway, just wanted to know if any of you Note 9 owners who have the One UI update have this feature? if so, that would be awesome, and will get a Note 9 soon; if not, hmmm don't know, will just keep using my Note 8, thanks!!

sorry, I meant 'double tap to wake' screen, not always on display. this already works on my Note 8
Nope, d2tw is only on s10 series (that doesn't have the virtual key feature)

ok thanks for the info! darn. ahhhh!!
Honest question, why would you need that when there's the soft, pressure-sensitive home button? Doesn't it do the same thing, with one less tap?
because when I'm driving, I could easily wake it up by tapping anywhere on the screen. it's not that simple finding the home screen button when you are driving now that there's no hardware button. I know I shouldn't be touching the phone at all but at times there's still a need to. sure, I can unlock it with google and do some things (and bixby I think but haven't try it yet), but it's not the same as google is waiting for me to tell it to do something.

I bet a front facing FP comes in handy when driving and phone is on a mount.

do these usually work by pressing anywhere on the screen, or needs to press in a certain section of the screen?

I see. I personally don't think it's tricky to press on the soft home button while driving (it's not that fussy about where you tap), but I use Android Auto while driving so my screen is always on anyway.
Guys, please don't use your phones while you drive.?

OP, you could try decreasing sensitivity of the button. Feels just like tapping plus having a dedicated area.
I'd your use case is while driving, a recommend turning on 'Skip Lock Screen' and adding your car's Bluetooth to trusted devices. This way, you need only a tap on the button and you can go directly to the home screen surpassing your lock screen and the need to scan fingerprint.
Also, did you know you can double tap any notification to wake screen. Enabling 'Skip Lock Screen' as mentioned above will route you to the app directly when you double tap it.
Hope this helps.

Coming from a OnePlus 3T, I do miss DT2W as well. Sitting in a meeting, in a bus, on a plane or in the car - you never have to "search for the right spot", you can just tap on the (dark) screen in order to wake it up.
I really miss it. Once you get used to it, you´re lost.
Hi. There is Fast Wake (not sure about translation, i have another language) by Double Tap options in Accessiblility menu.

Question Screen unresponsive to taps?

Hi guys!
A few months ago I tried Pixel 6 as a replacement for my ageing OnePlus 5 and in the end had to return it because it was sometimes missing screen taps. Now I have Pixel 7 and guess what? The same thing. It is the most prominent when I want to wake the phone up with a tap (Google changed from double-tap, gods know why) and it often fails. I've tried double-tap, tripple-tap, turning off/on various settings, restarting, updating... The same stuff. There seems to be a lot of talk about it on reddit. The same works flawlessly on my Pixel 5 (and also many other things which are failing on Pixel 7).
Going through discussions it seems this plagues Pixel phones for some time and it seems to be some hardware issue.
Have you encountered the same issue?

My works flawlessly single tap, double tap, doesn't matter but I use nova launcher and Iam rooted
I noticed something similar because my 3 XL worked with the slightest tap. My 7 misses taps if I'm not directly tapping with a full press of my finger. If it's just a brief tip tap it sometimes doesn't work. The strange thing is if I'm tapping something on the screen it shows the touch animation, but it doesn't register the tap, so I have to tap again harder, and then it works. Seeing a setting to increase sensitivity makes me thing Google has the default too low, and hopefully can "fix" it in an update.

Nova Launcher, my favourite app!
Seems like some shortcomings of Pixel 7 can be solved using the root access, however it seems crazy I need to root the phone to get the same functions as on a Samsung or a OnePlus phone :-/

Yes, it is as you describe. But don't hope too much, this behavior about missing already animated taps had been reported for Pixel 6 by many people, but Google seems to ignore it or what, they just don't give a care?
I encountered this issue in the beginning. Try the following and see if it solves your phone being unresponsive to tapping to unlock the device. Go to: Settings>Display>Lock screen and turn off Lift to check phone, turn on Tap to check phone.

Hey, same here sometimes. I got a pretty good but cheap tempered glass screen protector with which FP works 8/10 plus using face unlock. Better touch input option with protector is enabled in settings.

Exactly this happens more often and I had that on my Pixel 6 too which I replaced with a Realme GT2 Pro (no problems with the Realme) but on Pixel 7 now again. Still using three buttons navigation bar, and often the taps don't work there too.
LOL f* Google, can't they get their stuff fixed? I mean the company which codes the OS sucks regarding their flagships more than other OEMs which only adapt the OS. Jesus f* christ.

Question Moto display waking up too often

Hello, i found that the moto display shows up too often. For example, my phone is laying on the table playing a song from spotify with the screen turned off. If the volume is quite high it happens that the vibrations from the phone speakers are strong enough to activate the moto display. It's annoying and batter draining i guess... Any solution? Thanks
Yes, I experienced the same. Pick up to wake is too sensitive, so with just a minimal vibration the screen turns on. I switched this option of and only have the option 'tap to wake' activated.

Question Double tap to wake doesn't work if you have AoD on, Custom ROMs

Does anybody else have this issue where if you turn on always on display in AOSP ROMs like Pixel Experience, after a few seconds you can't double tap to wake the screen (the screen becomes unresponsive)
Is this an issue related to kernel?

The same on stock rom, for me.
I'm on MIUI 13 with Android 11 (I had too much trouble with the A12 version) and I have AoD disabled. Still sometimes the double tap to wake feature stops working. I have to unlock it with the fingerprint and then turn the screen off to make it work again.

As far as I know, in MIUI there's an option at the bottom of the developer options, something about MI Optimization. Turning it off fixes the problem

Thanks for the video. I'll give a try. I wish that under this aspect there is no difference among China and EU ROM.
Tried but unfortunately it only solves the aod issue
Double tap to wake does not work again both with AOD on and off.
