Now that the 6p and 5x has high frame rate recording, will this be possible to be ported to the Nexus 6? The hardware should be up for it, shouldn't it?
No, the new Nexus phones have different CPUs and image sensors to be capable of the higher frame rate recording.

you do realize that it all depends on the hardware of the device, dont you? if it was possible on the n6, id assume that we would be having it already..

Well, see the sensor should be able to record 1080/60p according to Sony, can't link because of few posts. But it's on the website for imx214.
And the cpu should have no problem either, so I don't see why it isn't possible hardware-wise.

sensor should, and our cpu can handle it(recording slow-mo too). but our device isnt made to handle it for some reason.
Likely due to the memory and other hardware being unable to support it. The bandwidth requirements for it are likely huge, so you need everything working together, and if guess one item isn't capable of handling the throughput properly.

Both cpu and camera supports it(check oneplusone or nexus 5 with l camera), but thanks to Google marketing they would not bring this new features to nexus 6, unlikely but possible.

Is the memory fast enough to support it? What about the emmc flash chip? There is more to capturing high-frame rate video than having a capable image sensor and CPU. Yes, they're big parts of it, but not everything.

I'm not going to start a discussion about hardware limitations or how important memory speed etc, the thing is; do nexus 5 has advantages over nexus 6? do one plus one has very high differences than nexus 6? No, this cpu can support 55 Mp camera and better than opo plus, gpu is better, memory same, ois and other stuff and do you really believe that we dont have this because hardware limitations? Google always does this and will continue doing this. After enough some time (6P and 5X get boring) they will give us camera v3, until then we had to dig 4K crap.

Go get a slow memory card, put it in a DSLR camera, and see if you can take pictures as far as the image sensor is capable of. Maybe you don't think it matters, but it does. My GPU on my computer is capable of 4K resolutions, why won't my monitor display 4K? Again, if one piece of hardware doesn't support taking video or images at a given resolution and frame rate, then it doesn't matter what the rest is capable of.
Then again, I'm sure you have the exact hardware design specs and everything is great and its actually capable of 300 fps at 8K...

OK it matters of course and let's say we have a slow memory and ram (we can record 4k @30fps though), how come nexus 5 can do it? Btw this feature was around for a time but Google itself did not looked into it, and I'm sure with a little bit hacking they can do it but Google rarely give backward compatibility to their devices except os of course.
Maybe the Nexus 5 has different hardware, just a thought? I mean, it is coming from a different OEM and from a different time period, so that would be the first logical guess. Second guess is that, given encryption is enabled by default and that affects the throughput on R/W actions, that it is preventing us from high FPS recording. I didn't design the phone, so it's all speculative. Unless you know a Google or Motorola engineer, you're likely never going to get the actual answer.
Either way though, bloody annoying.
[email protected] is literally the same bandwidth as [email protected] If the hardware can handle the bandwidth of [email protected], the only limitation left is the speed of the sensor. If Sony's sensor can handle the speed required for 60-120fps, then the only limitation left is arbitrary software. Is there a setting in android to make that available, or is it a closed source driver limitation?
Hello, I've noticed that after I've unlocked the bootloader and rooted the device, Prime Video is not streaming on 1080p HD anymore even though the device has Widevine L1 certification (Netflix is working fine). It looks really really bad. I've managed to keep google pay working, and installed the Netflix fix too (liboemocrypto.so patch or something like that)...is anyone facing the same issue or know a fix to the problem?

How did you notice it isn't HD? Mine seems to be in HD on my rooted MI9T pro... How can I check?
Are you sure ur netflix running on hd?
Try watch test pattern and report here.
It will automatically adjust n show the actual format u watch

In upper right corner it says "null kbps, 1920:1080, PAR 1:1 , 8 bpc, 23.976 fps" I think Netflix is ok...it seems it is not triggering HDR but maybe because the test doesn't support it.

It looks like actual crap, there are no details, it shows compression arctifacts on complex scenes and fast moving objects...like it is running on 240p or 360p. Moreover if the video is running in FullHD the Prime video player will show 1080p HD under the progress bar just next to the minutes counter.
I am sure it is not a bandwidth problem since I've got gigabit fiber at home and fast 4G+ Data. Tested speed before reproducing were 522Mbps on WiFi and 130Mbps on 4G+, tested both on ookla and fast.com
EDIT: in the settings menu I've selected maximum streaming and quality, but it says that the Data consumption will be 0.46GB per hour...it seems really lo...what you guys get? Could anyone with a locked and stock device please share a screenshot of the quality settings?
I can't stream in HD even on a stock device. As far as I know, noone can.

Same on stock. Quality is not as bad as you describe but I can see a bit of compression like its's 720 maybe. Netflix on the test chart says 720p max for me (even on the 1080p test) but Netflix settings say that HDR 1080 is supported

It should be possible since Amazon whitelisted our device in December, so we should be able to stream content at full resolution as reported in some articles...I think I have the EEA Rom, and maybe only the Global Rom Is whitelisted...or maybe only Raphael and not Raphaelin...i've seen screenshot of FullHD content running on the device (with locked bootloader)

I'm running at full quality on Netflix and I am sure of that...I watched some Irish man content and it even triggered HDR on and it was running at full res, with noticeably high quality. While on Prime Video watching TGT Seamen I can notice crap quality when the boats are sprinkling water and with the sea surface...

Can anyone infer an answer based on previous Sony phones? I never owned one. It seems the only flaw this has is the refresh rate and lack of IR blaster, which I can stand
It shouldn't be possible, since the gpu of the snapdragon is too slow to handle more than 60hz at 4K
I see that some previous sony can do 120hz at 1080p. Can we expect the same here?
I have read a Japanese review that the screen works at 90hz and that it shows compared to the Xperia 1
Enviado desde mi J9110 mediante Tapatalk
You can get 90hz on your Xperia 1 if you search and write a bit of code, at 4k.

The reviews so far don't agree it's like 90hz and they couldn't tell the difference when toggled off and on so sounds like a gimmick.
Maybe it'll improve when final release software is released but I doubt it.

If the chipset can't support it, it's a dead end.
A while back someone was claiming to have overclocked the Note 10+ to 90hz. It was hogwash because the chipset hardware not the just the firmware doesn't support it.
The answer is in the chipset white papers and even if it does support it, the circuit design may not.
I don't know why no body is talking on this , but the Exynos version of s21 ultra does not have an option to play at 90hz .
Also , we cannot play at uhd resolution and HDR is just limited to 40 fps ..
Where as on sd888 you can do it all .

The device barely handle 60fps.
My assumption it's not ready for 90 or uhd which fine by me, i never cared how much fps I'm running...i keep losing .
But you shouldn't have opt for the E2100 if you are interested in gaming tbh.

I have not bought the device yet , my region offer Exynos only ,
I am confused between this Exynos variant and OnePlus 9 pro .
I am getting both of them at a similar price , actually OnePlus doesn't deserve that price due to its poor software management and bugs and a relatively new company

After disabling the Samsung game optimizing service it easily handles 60 fps though... And it actually can run 90fps given how it runs LOL at 120 fps steadily..... It won't have a problem running smooth 90fps other than heating.

Yes it indeed makes it better because it doesn't let samsung throttle its performance as low as it does normally. Everyone testing it on exynos version has appreciated the difference.

It seems that the S22 Ultra use a lot of the same stuff like lenses, maybe the whole camera setup. So we dont know, if they improve software AI and we also dont know, if that really requires Exynos 2200 or SD8 Gen1.
In the past, there were many things ported from newer models to older models. Even GCAM get a port.
Im interested into the updated camera app from the S22U because of 108MP enhancer mode and less noice in video.
Do you think it is possible and someone will do?
I use the unofficial ExpertRAW heavily and in my opinion it can improve image quality a lot. As long as nobody compare ExpertRAW from both phones, I doubt there will be much hardware upgrades in camera Departement.

+1, I've been wondering about the same as well, back when I owned an S8+, I remember getting rom ports of the note 8 alongside which you would get the new camera app as well
I know getting the entire rom ported over to the phone, only the camera app should be sufficient here since software updates pretty much bridge any and all difference between phones except for specific apps, like the camera
S22 runs on oneui 4.1, we are on 4.0 probably some of the new features will be available for us once we get an update. To be honest I would wait till that and then see if there is anything "missing".
Probably samsung will restrict something for newest device, but there is a chance that we will get nearly everything as the hardware should not be an issue.
The improvements on main camera seems impossible to port on 21U for the isp on snapdragon 888 can't take one photo in 108MP mode and 12MP mode at the same time which is available on snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
