Hey everyone,
I rooted my nexus one when it was 2.2, now im trying to update to 2.2.1. However the OTA update wasnt taking, it failed and the installation aborted everytime. I search forums and found one saying to factory reset my phone, which i did. Saved everything with titanium backup. Now im stuck with:
Firmware: 2.1-update1
Kernal version:2.6.29-01117-g4bc62c2 android-build apa26#1
Build nuumber: EPE76
One problem is i do not get an OTA update to upgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.1. Also i did a manual update with signed-passion-FRF50-from-ERE27.1e519a24.zip and it fails and installation aborts. How can i get back to at least 2.2, but preferably 2.2.1.
Also when trying to restore my apps from titanium backup, it tells me my phone is not rooted, but I still see the little "padlock" unlocked when i boot my phone.
Thanks, hope someone can help
John

im assuming that zip wont work because im on build epe 76. Whats the best way from here to get to at least 2.2
It sounds like you need to do some reading. Look at the Nexus One wiki that's linked at the top of this forum. Read everything it has to say, then re-read.
Your questions are answered.
Not to mention the wrong forum. This is development, not Q&A.
Cheers and g/l
wiki page doesnt help at all
just read the wiki page twice, as you said. There is nothing about how to fix this issue. Sooooooooooo.....??????
i have 50+ forums and googled this issue 10+ times, not having any luck....If you cant help can you direct where i can find help????
Lol, the wiki wont show you the exact issue being resolved. You need to think between the lines, do some problem solving. Nobody on this forum is going to spoon-feed you the answer you look for.
Everything I know about the Nexus One (and Android in general) is from these forums. You aren't looking hard enough if you can't find the info you need.
So please, have enough sense next time to at least post in the correct sub-forum, instead of coming in filled with piss and vinegar making a fool of yourself.

1. You haven't given enough information for anyone to help direct you.
2. It sounds like your bootloader is unlocked, but you lost root. Or maybe your recovery (whichever that is) won't allow an unsigned zip.
3. But once again, this is the wrong forum. This is not the place for you to go into further detail. All it will do is piss people off who are trying to work on development, but have to wade through beggar spam. So please stop.
this is the wrong thread for what you need...mod needs to move it. Take it easy guys, he's just looking for help.
If you have Terminal Emulator from Market installed, type this:
at the $ type su ($su)
it should change to # sign
at # type whoami (#whoami)
it should replay back with "root"
If not, you have lost root and you will need to re-root your device. Please open a thread in Q&A to ask further questions.
Have a revo, flashed gingervolt on it and now it just boots into recovery everytime I boot. I've tried flashing stock on it, that stock gingerbread that has the boot and the system in it... nothing works... just keeps going into recovery. (Clockworkmod Recovery). In addition when I try power and volume up nothing happens, goes into Clockworkmod not the LG recovery.
I have no idea what to do Any help would be appreciated.
Forget it... you know I searched for 10 or 15 minutes easy looking for the solution. I post the question, and 5 minutes later (ok 15 or so) I find the answer in another thread. Thanks anyway (Haven't tried the solution but it looks solid).

This link by the cubed fix it. Apparently it is a bug involving factory reset. You just flash this file and it fixes everything. Thank the cubed if you find it useful, I did.

Moving to General
Here is a link to the solution thread (I posted it up there as well). Since it is almost an exact duplicate of my **issue and it is posted in Development by thecubed I was just following his lead. -P.S. thanks for the large public outting that I'm a noob I appreciate it and agree that the private msg you left me (that was much nicer) was not sufficient. <big grin>

P.P.S. Please for the love of God when you move thecubed's post to General, include the big "You are a noob don't post in the wrong section" on his too. I always love a good giggle when I come here
So I wanted to revert back to HTC Sense, but not enough careful reading caused me this, which I've been working on for hours now. I was on Cynogenmod before. Phone is S-ON, unlocked, and has TWRP installed, but the problem is there is no recovery. The other big problem is there is also no OS. Phone also is not detected by computer, so I can't just drag a file onto the phone and flash it again. Is buying a USB OTG cable the only option at this point?
This is the most common question asked about here, why not do some research about it?
same here, i have recovery but its not helping much. no OS and cant get in Download Mode to flash via Odin.

ODIN is for Samsung, this is HTC.
At the top of the Q&A section is a welcome message, and several stickies, may I invite you to start reading there
in particular the Frequently Asked Question sticky, and on page 3 you would see the answers you're looking for.
Alternatively, almost every other thread in here has the same situation, so please remember forum rules, and search and read.
Good luck, and post any other questions you may have here (please do not post in the FAQ sticky!!)

thank you for that. Fastboot was my solution.
Hey.
I'm looking to install a custom ROM on my Siii Mini, and i am totally new to this area.
It's bunch of general questions, so I post it here because i was not sure where to posit it.
I would like to install this room on it(deleting everything which is already on the device, i.e. clean install):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2280401
As I said, i'm totally new to the area(never done it before, never even root a device) - so the installation instruction are a bit too vague for me hehe. I would like to avoid bricking my device, so I want to know what I am going to do before I do. So i have few questions:
1. Do I need to root my device before doing the installation instruction(if yes, it would be awesome if you can direct me to how-to guide)?
2. Do i need to install the latest official firmware before i install the ROM?
3. Is "boot to CWM" means I first need to install CWM "ROM manager" software - or does it refer to other CWM software? again, it would be awesome if you can direct me to an how-to guide on how to install it.
4.In the instruction steps: making full backup, and all wiping procedures, and installation of the ROM - is all done from within CWM - and is just self-explanatory from within CWM?
5. The creator of the ROM provides 2 fixes and say ""After applying update 6 download and flash in cwm this two files too" - how do I do it?
6. Is anything else I need to know or "just do it - it's easy"?
Thanks a lot

best advice I have for you
have a search around forums before posting questions
all the answers are there
people have taken the time to provide as much information on the questions you have just asked
don't insult their efforts by not searching first
good luck
and have fun

I did search, and went threw the thread as well ... but it was hard to find exactly what i am looking/asking, or felt like i am not sure about it(most of the posts seems "advance" level when i am a "beginner"),.
I am sorry if i insulted someone, obviously it wasn't my intention. I was hoping for some specific answers for my specific questions - it doesn't even have to be in-depth answer.
Thanks and I hope it's alright

follow the exact steps to the guides, if rooting is required they will have it in the steps
i would also recommend checking some youtube videos as those are sometimes easier to follow than the threads
Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum; this is my first post.
I have an M7 on a stock HTC/AT&T ROM running Lollipop 5.0.2 with Sense 6.0.
I would like to root the device so that I can do things like eliminate ads, remove bloatware, run more advanced software, etc., but I do not want to loose things like Beats Audio/Boom Sound. So I'm thinking I just want to stick with the stock AT&T/HTC M7 ROM.
I have seen reference to the Sunshine App, but unless someone can tell me it does something absolutely magical for the one-use $25 payment they expect, I'm fine doing it the free way. I got the impression about Sunshine that it doesn't actually get you all the way to root. If it got me all the way and saved my data/apps, too, I'd be all over it.
Can someone please give me the full path of steps I need to go through to get this done? I'm not a dumb guy. Pretty computer savvy, actually, but there is a lot of jargon and intermediate steps that seem to be involved in all of this. Some of the videos I'm seeing are quite dated at this point, and I have to wonder if they are relevant to an AT&T M7 on Lollipop a this point. But I thrive on step-by-step tutorials, so if you guys point me to the right videos or written tutorials, I should be fine.
Any suggestion on the best way to backup my device would be appreciated, too. I understand I'm going to get all my data and programs wiped somewhere along the path.
Thank you!

Thanks, but I think you are making a few too many assumptions that I understand what your saying.
I don't think I can just flash twrp before unlocking the bootloader, am I right? And I have no clue how to flash twrp, how to set up to do that, and what to have where. I can do the steps if I know what they are. So I really am looking for a pretty explicit set of steps. You've given me some steps, yes, and thank you for that(!!), but I think you're coming from a position of already knowing exactly what you are doing and all the ramifications of each and every step you would take, so by the time it gets to me it just sounds like the cliffs notes and I'm still wondering what the novel is about.
And, yes, I get that some of you here answer these kinds of noobie questions a lot, and it just gets tedious repeating yourselves. Unfortunately for us noobies who come looking to the experts for the straight-up how-to, the responses all seem like "just do this, do that" without any discussion of how to do this and how to do that. I've read several "how do I root my phone" threads here, but the answers all seem just a little to Greekish to me, and to others too I would imagine. The video tutorials here were recorded back when the M7 was brand new and there's no indication at all whether updates along the way to present day have altered the process, or whether there is a safer, better way after all this time. I have no idea if they are relevant today.
I get that I'm asking a lot for such an old device, but I would really appreciate a little of a tutorial approach.
Thanks very much.

Read the FAQ >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228274
and the So you came at XDA-Developers to find help
If your still stuck after that then ask questions.
Hint: I described all the steps in post 2 above

Hi,
I know its 2019, four years since you posted this request, but I just pulled my HTC One M7 AT&T after 3 years and had the exact same query and needed a way to ensure that steps mentioned in posts like these in 2015 are still relevant/applicable on our device running Android 5.0.2 with HTC Sense 6.
I was looking to have a device specific tutorial to finally make the plunge to install a custom ROM (someone ported Android 10 to this device!) , but remember there being some complexities back in the day to do this on our device. Were you able to get around this? Look forward to your response.
Thanks & regards,
Deepesh
