Is this smartphone ever going to get Android 12?
[Update: Qualcomm responds] Qualcomm's Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders sets the worst example for software updates in 2022
The Smartphone for Snapdragon Insiders hasn't seen a new update since March. The situation is even worse when it comes to security patches.

I'm running SLiMM ROM 2.1 with April 2016 Security Patch level. A couple of questions:
1. Is there any way to update just the Security Patch level without flashing a new ROM?
2. Is there any other ROM with updated Security Patch level I can flash on a device with locked bootloader?
3. Is there any other ROM with updated Security Patch level I can flash on a device with unlocked bootloader?
4. What is the latest Security Patch level available for Z3c(locked or unlocked BL)?
4. What is the latest Security Patch level available for Z3c(locked or unlocked BL)?
On stock .291 the Security Patch is : 1 May 2016
Kernel vulnerabilities can easily be patched and flashed on a phone with unlocked bootloader. Other vulnerabilities living in the system won't be as easy to patch.
forever insecure.
z3 compact is definitely my last android phone, i was tired of this ****.
well that kinda sucks. I really like this phone and wanted to continue to use it as a daily driver, but if i cant get it up to date security wise im not sure i will. Hopefully the Paranoid Android project will release working ROM with up to date security patches(since Z3c seems to be pretty much abandoned by CM). The lack of security updates is a really big concern on Android. It's ridiculous that a consumer who is willing to flash his phone himself cant get updated security.

Personally, I don't care about security updates. That artificial drama created around all these flaws and insecurities that are present in Android are just ridiculous... It's probably one a quadrillion chance our devices will be attacked or anything will happen to them. Just use them like it should be used and nothing wrong will happen. I may over exaggerate the problem but telling you won't use your phone because of the security updates is like telling you can't leave your house because there are so many sick people around and you also may get sick. Just don't be so pedantic, really...

I am using android phones since 2009. I dont care about security updates too but no new updates mean no new features, thats why i am sick about these phones. for example, z3 compact didnt get the nougat update, so i will not be able to try multi window feature, which is very useful. Even an iphone 5 gets latest ios update and features, 2012 model phone, 4 years getting updates.
sec patch level on concept 3636 is 1st july 2016

That's because the iPhone hardware and software stays mostly the same each year. They don't make changes that are big enough to make the previous generation obsolete. So if you want to always run software with features that are 2 years behind the trends on hardware that is a year behind the trends, then go to the iPhone. But don't say you want the latest and greatest and then mention iPhone as the solution.
one year later and SONY forget about us..
The next phone will be from another company..

3. CarbonROM 5.1 with security level Nov 2017
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/development/cr-5-1-carbonrom-t3529766
Regarding number 3, there are some custom ROMs available, such as:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3-compact/orig-development/oreo-unofficial-omnirom-t3696536
The ROM mentioned in the link above contains security patches from Dec 2017. Look at the feature list (what's working and what not) before flashing.
Hope that helps
I am happy
http://playfuldroid.com/huawei-p9-p9-plus-emui-5-0-upgrade-spring-festival/
The tech giant had earlier released a time table that shows the schedule for upgrades to the latest UI for its old smartphones. ... Most of the models like the G9 Plus, Huawei Nova, Honor 6X, Honor Note 8 and M3 tablet would start getting their full upgrades between March and latest May 2017.

Fingers crossed!
So will this just be for Chinese versions or will the rest of us get it?

"Normally" nowadays this should mean countries outside China will receive an update sometime in the future, most likely not in May but later.
After thinking I actually did upgrade from EMUI 4 and Android Marshmallow to EMUI 5 and Nougat 7 is my Huawei M3 the same? In the week of Feb 6-10 2017 my Huawei Mediapad M3 ( BTV-W09) had a notification to upgrade via a download it provided from it's stock EMUI 4.1 and Android 6 to EMUI 5 and Android Nougat 7, which I did download and install. After doing so it says it is still EMUI 4.1, Build Number BTV-W09C128B003, Android 6, with Android Dec 2016 security patch? No noticeable difference at all other than security level.
Did it just update the security level? I thought I read that this upgrade was going to be available for this model in around May of this year 2017? Android security patch level is still Dec 2016 (6) as of right now.
Thanks,
Signed,
That was a Dud.
What software version is the Android One version on? Mine hasn't updated since I got it. Still on Android 7.1.1 version NZW26.4 security patch September.

I think early models shipped with August security patch, and quickly updated to September. September is the newest one. (Mine is an Android One on Project Fi)
Ok, I never used mine on Project Fi. I just put in my Verizon SIM. I didn't know if that would have stopped me from getting updates or not. Good to know that I'm on the same as a Project Fi SIMd phone.
I just got the Galaxy Note 9 (SM-N960F/DS) and it's still on Android 8.1.0, security patch level December 1, 2018.
It won't update OTA, nor via Smart Switch.
The build number is M1AJQ.N960FXXS2ARL4, CSC is N960FOXM2ARK2
Is there a way to update it to at least Android 9.0?
Thanks in advance.

I do not know what you mean by genuine, it's original and unlocked.
How do I update it via ODIN if the firmware for this model hasn't been released yet?
Can I use any firmware to do it?

Man, the firmware for that phone with Pie has been release about a year ago..
Just because you didn´t get the OTA does not mean it hasn´t been released.
Just do a search here
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note9/firmware/#SM-N960F
for your country code to get the latest
Also search the forum for the latest ODIN version, and you must know if your phone has a SnapDragon CPU or an Exynos CPU if you would like to install custom roms and/or TWRP recovery
Go for it..
OP your so lucky to be on oreo I'm jealous
Better to Stay on Oreo That Update it to Pie/10

Waw.. How lucky you are.
i think better you stay in Oreo that updated it to Android 9 (Pie) Or Android 10.
IMHO, true Power of Galaxy Note 9 is on Oreo. The Multitasking menu is far usable in Oreo than Pie. The Pro Video mode is basically available on Oreo. also, you can slide the Shutter button to Zoom-in/out. Thats only on Note 9's Oreo.
Believe me, you'll regret it once you've successfully update to Pie. CMIIW
Can safely say that Android 10 OneUI 2.1 is the best software for the Note9.

When I play Asphalt 9 it gets really hot but I'm not a gamer so that's a rare event for me xd That said that's the only game which really heats up my phone so much, others make it normally warmer.
Otherwise i haven't seen any issues at all the last 4 months since I bought the phone, Exynos version as well. I'm on OneUI 2.1 since 1 month ago. I never had the famous screen tint issue that others were reporting.
Mine was stuck on Oreo too. Always said that my device was up to date every time I would check... I downloaded android 10 from some where and used patched od to install it. Had to do a lot of updating of apps when it booted up but that's how it is.

Why can't I upgrade my Galaxy S10e, model SM-G970U1 to Android 12 (now on 11) when my wife's S10e, model SM-G970U has been upgraded?
I had the same problem. My device stayed permanently at Android 11, security patch level 1 August 2021. Why it stayed that way, I don't know. I downloaded the update with Frija and finally applied the update manually with Odin. It worked; I am now on Android 12!

If you look here at sammobile, it doesn't look as though a12 has been released for the U1 yet. It has been released in most other countries but the US carriers seem to be lagging.
From what I've seen, A12 has been very buggy and has lots of compatibility issues. For this reason, I am certainly sticking to A11 as much as possible, for now.
