Mi A2 Battery drain and overheating - Xiaomi Mi A2 / 6X Questions & Answers

Hi all. So I have this Xiaomi Mi A2 (model no: M1804D2SG) which belongs to my dad. The phone discharges very quickly in daily use, and when it does it also overheats. Somewhere around January all of this resulted in battery increasing in size and shattering the screen. We did a battery and screen replacement at the local repair shop, and now it starts to drain again and will probably result in the same. The phone is running latest OEM Android 10 build
So the question I have, is there any kind of fix to be done, or maybe some lightweight ROM with less CPU strain, and advice is appreciated

Unhappy with Mi 9 battery draining and SOT, thinking about changing for mate 20 ...

Hi all.
I have written a comment to another created threat in mi 9 forum, but I would like to read your comments here too.
I'm having battery draining and SOT problems with my mi 9, like I said in title (like most people I think).
I have tried everything to improve my battery life in my mi 9, and It's not bad at all, but I was expecting better performance for a top xiaomi smartphone with sd 855 and 5 months old in spite of the fact that it has "only" 3300mah battery ...
I'm not a heavy user and I try to get max SOT and minimum battery drain in all my phones, because I don't like changing smartphones very often and I like to take care of it.
I came from a Moto G4 plus, and I had 5h of SOT in 48h without high standby drainage (maybe 1-2% of drainage overnight in 7-9h) with a 3 years old battery and worst hardware and software. In mi 9, I'm getting 5-6h of SOT in 48-72h. Not bad at all, but standby drainage is awfull. It loses 20-25% of the battery every 48h (3-5% overnight), and in a smartphone with such a fair battery it's a problem. If I'm not getting great results with not heavy use and my smartphone is new, I don't want to think in 2-3 years + mid-heavy use ... I have tried everything (full wipes, reinstalling, the most powerfull battery saving, etc) and I don't have great result. Standby drainage is very hight compared to other phones (I have tried a friend poco f1 and I had 10h in 48-72h with 1% overnight drainage. It was awsome).
And now the question ...
I'm thinking of changing my mi 9 for a huawei mate 20... I still have the 30d Amazon refund and I am not comfortable with my phone's battery.
- Mate 20 pros vs mi 9: +700 mah battery and more efficient, the best ips panel without burn-in problem, and fingerprint sensor behind the screen (no like too much in-screen fingerprint at all).
- Pros mi 9 vs mate 20: sd 855 (but geekbech it's very very similar, and antutu winner is mi 9 only for gamming but mate 20 still on top), unlocking bootloader for mi 9 (better comunity in xda, but if emui works well I think I don't need custom rooms, the problem here is Trump/google vs China ... but now apeares to be solved and we would have newer updates to Android Q), wireless charging (I don't use it because smartphone is hotter when charging 3-5º vs cable+1,5a charger, It takes more time to charge with elevated temperature), not jack (better for waterproof), maybe very little better cameras in mi 9 and little better results, 4 months younger (very little difference) and It's the top phone on xiaomi (mate 20 is the little brother because we have mate 20 pro, 20x, p30, p30 pro and we will have soon mate 20 and mate 20 pro; and that could be worst because we will get latter uptdates in mate 20).
What do you think? Would you change mi 9 for mate 20? Reading your comments. Greetings.
If your looking for better battery life I'd say get the mate 20. I've had mine for just under 3 months. Best damn purchase I've ever made (purchased way below retail during trump ban). I consider myself a medium to heavy user (I don't play mobile games however). With some useless features turned off and some fetch services disabled. I can easily get 8-10 hrs on screen time with this phone, it's the best battery life I've ever had, prior I was getting 4hrs with another Android phone.

Heat? I haven't had any issues with heat if by that you mean does the phone get too hot to touch, it's cool the majority of the time. As for performance, EMUI 9.1 is very smooth and I haven't had any slow downs ??.

Just a month ago I had Poco F1. On the battery Sot was similar to the 20 mate. Night drainage in Poco 1-3%, mate 2-5%. Mate saves better on screen on. Performance similar to Poco. If I had to exchange Mi9, it was on mi9t Pro.

Can Xiaomi 8 unlock the battery capacity

Please give me a way to unlock the battery capacity(Unlock battery cap). I am currently refitting the MI 8,thanks
Colleague, if it has or works and purely gambiarra.
Reinforcing, battery has useful life. That is, it loses capacity with several charging cycles.
After 3 years of use, I bought a new one from Nohon.

Question M11 battery cheap or software?

Hi folks.
Aight m11 battery is pretty horrible ngl.
I got my m11 with miui 12.5. 1st day I got it battery dropped to 40% within 5 hrs with 30 mins sot.
I was sad phone trash.
Next day was better but very buggy battery still drain not as bad was at 60% after 5 hrs 1hr screen time.
Next couple of weeks playing with it.. Trying to figure out better battery usage but why should I its a flag ship phone?
Battery was still very buggy sometimes drained 20% over night sometimes it was fine. Got miui 12.5 enhanced slight improvement.
I got all excited waiting for miui 13. 1st impression very good. But battery life sot averaging 4.5 hrs 100% to 5%. Idle time very good too.
But now I got oneplus 10 pro. Yes oneplus had extra 500mah but I get more battery out of it ngl. Whole phone is better and I use it the same.
So my question is it the cheap hardware xiaomi use like battery for not so OK sot.
Or is it the software? Because miui 13 hella improved battery life and is very stable compared to 12.5.
And the roms on here will they have noticeable better battery life? People should know the difference between miui and own roms sot. I'm tempted to try it
I have a few months old Mi 11 Ultra with miui 13 and I am experiencing the same problems...
I think it combination of bad battery and software.
The 20% drop at night is a sure indication that something is running in the background... that probably doesn't need to be.

Yes it was random sometimes did sometimes didn't. Yes but miui 13 fixed idle consumption.
My oneplus 10 pro 96% battery life 40 mins sot put it that way. And 80% is when the battery drains the least
Yes my brightness is at 30% inside now. But my battery still alot better. But I don't understand why some xiaomi phones have great battery life with same spec as other phones but not the Mi11?

Most Samsung phones need to be optimized for best battery life.
Xiaomi's likely has to be as well. You need to find the power hogs and deal with each on a case by case basis.
Using manual brightness control helps save your eyes and battery.

I have auto Brightness on hence 30% brightness inside. And I looked on my battery settings and nothing was running on Mi11 I've done nothing to my one plus 10pro and battery pretty good for a flag ship

It's may well the firmware or factory loaded software. However it could be 3rd party apps misbehaving. Google apps tend to cause battery consumption troubles...
Android give you a lot of freedom to configure them the way you want. Cookie cutter Apples doesn't so it's easy for Apple to optimize their products. So with Androids the end user needs to pickup the slack many times and find work arounds or setting changes.
Yes but even if I use my phone straight off charge its still roughly 6hrs sot indoors (no sim) WiFi only 20% screen brightness. When I used it outdoors with sim 4.5 hrs if that . So I don't think non sleeping apps where doing it. I look on my battery usage and it says my apps used 3600 mah battery including screen with 25% battery left with 4.4hrs sot. So no mis behaving apps.
It might sound good but my screen brightness super low

You need to see how much each app and service are using, then figure out why. It takes some time and effort to track them down... a learning curve.
FB, WhatsApp, all social media apps should never be installed on the device. If you can't access them using browser login, forget them. They are nothing but trouble...
Yes bro I checked had enough of mi 11 no apps causing trouble checked for months.
Idle consumption very good lose 0% over night sometimes. I thought miui 13 would have substantial battery increase but only fixed idle consumption.
I thought maybe they would optimize battery usage better like Samsung 21 ultra.
My oneplus 10 pro is on 2hrs sot with 40% brightness and 84% battery life. Very good battery life no need to worry bout it dying when I'm out
Its not me thinks mi 11 battery trash too 90% reviews say to and GSMarea gives it a rating of 84hrs and the one Plus 10 pro 104hrs battery endurance
Now back to my original question is it xiaomi cost saving software optimization trash or battery hardware cheap?

You won't know until you work with it more trying to optimize it.
This Note 10+ was a hot running battery hog until it was optimized. It gets 7-8% @hr now when browsing with Brave. It took months to finally dial it in. Over a year to really get it right.
A lot of work. My second N10+ was a snap to optimize as I knew what to do.
One thing I do is not to upgrade firmware* or app updates as this can start another cycle of trying optimize the new firmware/apps. I'm running on Pie and Android 10, malware is not an issue.
*if I have a fast, stable OS... I let it be!
R u serious. What do u mean optimize? Putting apps to sleep isn't really optimizing.
Ur trying to improve battery when only really the developers can fix it.
Yes putting it in dark mode 60hz putting everything to sleep not running nothing fun having brightness on 0% will improve battery life but experience will be trash.
My oneplus Pro 10 is out the box restored all my data whatsapp 3 emails with sync on 4g nothing optimized. Screen brightness normal too (I want a good experience)
battery optimization or battery hardware is great. The layout skin in oneplus 10 pro its faultless too and looks alot better than xiaomi.
Other hand is xiaomi mi11 definitely a cheap battery or lazy developers to cut costs hence the price but one plus 10 pro is same price. But other xiaomi phones r very good battery life so I'm confused

Global power management never worked for me, disable it and deal with each power hog on a case by case basis. Limiting background data/battery usage in individual app settings doesn't invoke global power management.
Some apps like Brave browser need to be closed after use or they continue to run in the background. I disabled Google play Services unless needed. I use a package disabler to kill anything bloatware or other apps/services that cause trouble and aren't needed.
I never said it was easy... there's a steep learning curve.
Dependencies; disabling a parent app/service can have far reaching consequences, good or bad. Try to understand what you are disabling.
Acquire or use the already loaded the tools you need to help find the trouble makers... play with it.
Definitely ****ty software, battery backup is much better on AOSP-based ROMs.

Question Does anyone know why my Redmi Note 10 5G do this?

It randomly died at 50% charge, then when I tried to boot it up all it shows is a black screen with a white empty battery icon, what does this mean? And how to fix this? Please and thank you.
Last time I used it is on the charger it came with, but after a moment the phone doesn't seem to work anymore.
My phone has started doing this too, did you find a solution?

Unfortunately not; I tried asking in Mi Forums as well but no one, not even a community rep answered.
this will be my last redmi phone i ever buy or recommend
time to warranty check
i never have any problem wirh xiaomi. best for quality/cost. if i will decide change brand, my next phone will be a pixel. the only one better than xiaomi. in most of cases, your battery problem is caused by a bad charger use. not from phone hardware or software. simply buy a new battery and recharge wirh a good charger from min 20 to max 80. a continuos full discharge process cause battery fast degrade. web is full of articles that talk about this
This is very likely to be due to a faulty/worn out battery.

Question Xiaomi 11T Pro- Battery draining, charging slowly, overheating.

I bought my phone about 1.5 years ago or so, the warranty has obviously expired. A few nights ago, I noticed that the phone drained rather quickly, I still had over 50% battery, the next morning at 6:30 AM, the phone had switched off due to low battery, which was unusual as this phone can easily last a day and a half on full charge.
I noticed that the phone was heating, I put it on charge and slept, I woke up at 8:30, about two hours later and found the phone at 98% charge.
The phone drained again by 1 in the afternoon, and it was heating like crazy. I went to the service store, they told me that the issue was in battery and that it would cost me INR 2800 to have it fixed. The next day, they ran some 'software' and diagnosed the phone, they came to a conclusion that it was the processor that was heating which resulted at the phone battery draining quickly and charging slowly.
They cannot repair the processor and replacing it will cost me well over 25,000 INR.
I have tried contacting Xiaomi team and they have refused to replace the processor free of cost, I think that isn't a good treatment of their loyal customers, after-all the 11T Pro is a premium segment phone and this issue happened in first 1.5 years of buying the phone.
Is there anyone else who has come across this particular problem? If so, is there a solution to it?
Not much to do.
The price of the motherboard is exorbitant.
