Question Pixel Launcher without Google Searchbox - Redmi Note 10 Pro

Hello, is there any ROM that has the ability to remove the Google Searchbar that appears at the bottom of the screen? I really like Pixel Launcher but I don't use it and I want to remove it, I've tried PixelOS and it doesn't appear to have the option to remove the searchbar.

I don't know if there is any Rom allowing that.
Personnaly I'm using Nova Launcher Prime (from the playstore) which contains the feature You want to have.

You can also use Lawnchair launcher (www.lawnchair.app), it's a fork from the Pixel Launcher, but you can customize this detail. And a lot more.

I've tried this and looks cool, but I can't use gestures (swipe up to return home, swipe from side to go back), I think I'm looking for a ROM that uses Pixel Launcher and has the searchbar disabled, or just for another launcher similar to it, I've saw that ArrowOS uses Quickstep, and is really like Pixel Launcher without the bar, but it lacks a lot of customization, I think I'll stick to MIUI for now

If I recall right, the Quickstep is a Magisk module for allowing the launcher to access the running apps. You should install it along with the Lawnchair.
Not sure about the gestures, I am using them (with PixelOS) and I have no issues, even advanced stuff (long back, swipe down for one-handed mode etc).
I did not try to use it with MUIU due to issues with the ROM itself.

I guess I'll give PixelOS a try once again, install Lawnchair and see how it goes, thanks

I've also tried Pixel Experience and no issues.

Third party launchers and 4xl gestures

I read several days ago about how the pixel 4/4xl already allows third party launchers to use the native gestures.
I also read that you need to have gestures enabled in order to utilize the new google assistant.
My question is has anyone that has received their new pixel used nova launcher (my all-time fave), enabled native gestures and was able to utilize the new google assistant?
My new 4xl is on a truck for delivery today and I'm pretty excited.
I'm coming from the 3xl so I know it's not a huge upgrade, but I think there's enough to make me happy with the decision.
TIA
It seems that third party launchers aren't compatible with the native gestures. I prefer Nova Launcher as well, but when I use the native gestures to return home I get switched back to the stock launcher.
So what I've ended up doing is go with the button navigation and configured Fluid Navigation Gestures to mimic the default gesture behaviour and hide the button navigation bar. It's been working great so far and Assistant still seems to be working.
Well, that's disappointing.
I'm certainly not interested in a third party gestures app in addition to a third party launcher.
Hopefully nova can update their app so I can use the native gestures while utilizing the new google assistant.
The new assistant is supposed to be awesome, so if nova can't do it right now, I'll be forced to stick with the pixel launcher, which would also be a little disappointing but would be necessary as I value the new assistant more at this point.
Thanks for the response.

Yeah ideally I'd rather not have to install additional programs if I can avoid it, but there was a notice within the Nova Launcher app saying it's beyond their control.
Anyway, maybe things might change when you receive your phone so no harm trying out for yourself. At least the stock launcher is still pretty decent.

Google gestures work fine with nova. You just have to set nova or whatever launcher as your default launcher. It won't switch back to stock launcher on home swipe
So, have you actually done this and, more importantly, does the new assistant work with nova as your launcher?

Hmm...I stand corrected. Not sure why it didn't work when I tried earlier even though I specified Nova as my default, but thanks!
Thanks.
I know I did a duplicate post in the 4 and 4xl forums and appreciate the quick responses.
This is great news and I had not seen this particular question asked anywhere.
Good luck to all!

I tried to use Nova with the new gestures on my Pixel 3 but Nova said that they can't support the new gestures due to Google not making it compatible with 3rd party launchers. Didn't try it on my pixel 4.
Maybe I missed something, how did you get it to work?
I switched to Nova as default and it worked fine. However, the smooth new app animations do not work or look like the pixel launcher animations. System animation in Nova is just the slide.

I had to set it to 3 button navigation, hit home and set nova the default launcher, then re-enable gesture nav. But it is working perfectly for me.
I'm using Nova and the gestures are working fine.
Only thing is can't get rid of the line on the bottom of the home page.

Have you had any issues at all with Action Launcher? I tried using it and certain apps seemed to get stuck. It was very weird, like the app screen got set as the home screen - I could long press on the app screen and make home screen things happen. But I never could get back to actual home screen. I had to reboot.

I did not notice this, but I'm currently using Nova. I do know that you need to actually set the launcher as your default through the settings menu rather than through the launcher. That's the only way I could get it to reliably work.

Question [solved]12.0.2.0 Global, no full screen navigation gesture

Hello,
I'm on 12.0.2.0 Global firmware with my Mi11. I have one big problem, one i active full screen navigation gesture, i can confirm geste with the Xiaomi test but once it has finished no way to have gesture navigation and if i reboot phone it put back the navigation bar. Someone has the same problem than me? Is there a setting somewhere to fix that or is it definitively a bad bug. I can't flash because of BL locked and phone don't have to make an update, for it I am updated with the last rom.
Thank you for your answers.
Do you use a third party launcher? Fullscreen gesture don't work with third party launcher on MIUI Android 11. Reported the issue to Xiaomi, they said it's Android fault, but on my OnePlus 8T fullscreen gesture work well even with launcher...
Wow. It was that, crazy thing. Thank you for the trick. Bad move from Xiaomi, even with custom A11 on any device (like my Mix 3) no problem with full screen gesture and 3rd party launcher.
About third party launcher , this is the email I got from Nova regarding gestures
"Hello,
Thank you for contacting Nova Launcher support. Below is a lot of information that we encourage you to read completely as it will answer your questions or other questions you might have related to the full system gestures in Android 10, Android 11 and going forward.
PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL IN FULL!
Home/Default Launcher Constantly Being Reset
If you are experiencing issues with Nova not staying as the default launcher on Android 10 or Android 11, these first steps are for you specifically.
If you are having issues with Nova staying as your default launcher, try this: Reboot your device. Or you can try Phone Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Home App -> Nova Launcher. You might need to do this several times and reboot several times for this to fix the issue.
This is a very well known issue on Samsung and other devices, but specifically with new updates directly from Samsung starting as early as December 1st, 2020.
If this doesn't fix your issue, then you need to contact Samsung directly as the issue is on their end, with their update and has nothing to do with Nova or any other launcher, as this issue will happen in all 3rd party launchers.
The issue above isn't just for Samsung users, though the issue happens on every Samsung device that's gotten an update since December 1st, 2020.
Everything mentioned below is still present with the release of Android 11 on September 8th, 2020. Google has made it very clear that they have no plans to completely fix gesture-related issues any time in the near or even distant future.
Please take note that Google admits to this being broken on their end of things and that a fix will be coming in a future update to Android (stated March 2019).
However, it's now well over a year later and there are still many issues with full system gestures and 3rd party launchers on both Android 10 and Android 11. These issues will remain for the foreseeable future as Google have now made it clear that they have no plans to completely fix their full system gestures.
Notable issues with gestures on third party launchers include, but not limited to:
Close all/Clear app button not appearing(scroll all the way to verify it's not there)
Not being able to tap icons for a short time after returning to the home screen
Animations not being as fluid as expected
Screen blinks
Home screen icons blink
Home screen refreshes
Please understand, there is absolutely NOTHING WE CAN DO TO FIX OR CHANGE THIS IN ANY WAY! Contact Google or your device OEM directly with these issues as we have absolutely no control over it whatsoever.
Samsung Users
Samsung has allowed full system gestures to be used within 3rd party launchers with their One UI 2.5 update. This means you can now enable and use gestures, but there are still several issues regarding animations and the like.
As stated, there is nothing that Nova (or indeed any other 3rd party launcher) can do about this and it is ultimately up to Google and OEMs to fix navigation gestures.
Google's statement and Nova's statement
Google: https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2019/07/android-q-beta-5-update.html
Nova: https://help.teslacoilapps.com/faq/gesture-navigation
Enabling Gestures
As of the December 2019 Security Patch from Google, you can now enable full system gestures within 3rd party launchers on Pixel devices. However, the caveat of this is that you are likely to experience the issues mentioned above. To reiterate, this is still all up to Google to fix at some point in the future and to get things working 100% the way everyone expects them to be.
If and when you experience issues with gestures on 3rd party launchers, we highly recommend you contact Google and not Nova Support because, as we have said, there is absolutely nothing we can do to fix Google's problems.
Devices From Other Manufacturers
As some members in this Discord have noticed, some devices from certain manufacturers provide a reasonably usable experience with gestures. In particular, OnePlus devices on Oxygen OS 10 and above behave reasonably well with gestures.
This is because OnePlus (and other manufacturers) are using their own implementation of gestures rather than Google's which means that you might not get all of the issues referenced above. However, just like before, we (Nova) have no control over these and any issues you do experience should be brought up with the manufacturer and not us.
Action Launcher's False Claims
Action Launcher made an announcement back in late December 2019 which is completely misleading. When stating that they support system gestures, They are referring to the back swipe edit zones and other features within the app not interfering with Android's own system gestures.
As stated before, full system gestures are completely controlled by Android and are not something a launcher can just suddenly add support for or change in any way. When using gestures with Action Launcher, you'll quickly notice that the experience has just as many issues as it does with Nova or any other 3rd party launcher, reiterating the point that it is not something that any third party launcher can change or improve."
Well it is combined default of Google and Xiaomi. Google let's Xiaomi to fix if they want but Xiaomi (and Nova, for what I read) blames Google to no doing it. I don't understand, if it is Google default, why on custom A11 rom i have no problems with gesture navigation with Nova.
Hum... This launcher is a sh*t. Icons play hide game...

I'm sorry, if I may know did you solve it by installing FNG and..? Rooting?
I installed FNG and gestures are working, but I'm stuck with the navbar. If I enable full screen gestures via Settings, I lose them and get back the ugly navbar as soon as I lock the screen or reboot.
I gave FNG all permissions + ADB WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission, but still despite the gestures working there is no way of getting rid of the navbar..
Or are you stuck in the same situation too? (Nova with full screen gestures but navbar still visible)?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks, sadly this doesn't work for me. As I mentioned, if I activate this on the xiaomi settings the result is that it resets upon any screenlock or device restart, giving back the navigation bar.

"props" then
press "5" then
press "n" for new custom prop
add this line below to prop

Question Do gestures work with 3rd party launchers on miui?

About 4ish months ago, when I last used MIUI, there was a bug preventing gesture based navigation on third party launchers (nova, etc)
Can anyone confirm if that has been fixed by now?

On MIUI, Gestures do not work with nova or any third party launcher.
but on AOSP custom roms works normally.
I very much doubt this is a bug. you are supposed to use the system launcher and consume the ads

Well that is true, its just sad & pathetic, is there any way to circumvent this issue?
My guessing is, that Xiaomi disabled the android system gestures and has their own gestures implemented into the stock launcher. So removing the launcher, removes the gesture input.
Why I think that? Because #1, Xiaomi used to implement gesture navigation in miui even before Google implemented them in android. #2 the settings for gestures in miui 12 are inside the launcher menu.
I think that some kind of magisk module, which would enable/install the stock android gestures, would be possible.

This is one way to do it, but it gets annoying after a while as sometimes (i.e. pressing back rather than home, recent apps, a few other ways) will go back to the default launcher rather than the 3rd party launcher; also you are running two launchers all the time which isn't the best.
A better way is: set third party launcher + FNG, then use ADB to hide the navigation bar.

CUSTOM LAUNCHER GESTURES

Question How to get rid of Nav Bar on Android 11, MIUI 12.5.8 with NOVA Launcher

Hi,
I know this is a topic that has come a few times. I've been researching this for hours, but I'm at my end's wits. If anyone can solve it, I'd be grateful!
Phone: Redmi Note 10 Pro
My setup: NOVA LAUNCHER
MIUI: 12.5.8
Android 11
FNG app (Fluid Navigation Gestures)
My goal: to have navigation gestures with Nova Launcher without the bottom Android Nav Bar
I am aware that since Android 11, they've blocked the usage of system gestures when using custom launchers (why they did that, I still don't understand, but that's irrelevant.) Up until last night when MIUI updated itself automatically, my current config was working:
NOVA + FNG + switch system settings from BUTTONS to GESTURES.
This was working fine: in the phone settings switching to "GESTURES" would hide the bottom navigation button bar, and FNG would be activating the gestures in place of the system.
But last night's MIUI update now increased the level of difficulty. It is now impossible in the phone settings to select GESTURES when a custom launcher is active. When NOVA is the selected default launcher, tapping on GESTURES in system settings gives this message: "Can't use full screen gestures with third party launchers. Switch to the system launcher and turn on full screen gestures?". Tapping OK will disable NOVA and activate full screen gestures.
So, I'm now stuck with BUTTONS NAV BAR, which not only takes real estate space on the screen, but is just damn annoying.
I have tried using ABD command I found in another thread to hide the Buttons Nav Bar:
adb shell pm grant com.fb.fluid android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
But this does not work. I rebooted and all, but buttons are still there.
I do not wish to root the phone because I have never done it in the past, and somehow I fear it would introduce security issues. So I'm desperately trying to find another solution to hide the buttons nav bar.
Any idea?
I have to say, I really do not understand why they are forcing people to use stock launcher with gestures. Why is it a problem that custom launchers use system gestures in the first place? One reason I always enjoyed Android over iPhone is the fact that the system was more open compared to Apple who always made their system so closed and contrived. But I have to say that lately, I have found Android to be more and more annoying when it comes to customization.

Does the app "vivid navigation gestures" successfully hide the navigation button bar with Android 11 and the latest MIUI 12.5.8 using Nova? I see in your screenshots that the bar is gone and you are using Nova, but are you also using MIUI 12.5.8 with Android 11?

I installed Vivid Navigation Gestures and I followed the ABD command instructions, and it doesn't work for me. The buttons bar is still visible at the bottom of the screen, even after a reboot of the phone. Redmi note 10 Pro. Unfortunately this solution doesn't work for me. I'm glad it works for you, and thank you for the suggestion. It was worth a try.

I think so too... Because like i explained in my original message I normally was able to hide the nav bar by simply choosing "gestures" in the phone settings, but then one update happened and it became impossible to use that trick anymore. Since then, I have tried ABD command with FNG gesture app and that didn't work either. And now ABD command did not work with Vivid App.
So strange that they make it so hard to use gestures and hide nav bar when we use a third party launcher. Why don't they want us to use a third party launcher? It's the whole point of Android to be able to customize it... This is pretty crazy.

I cannot seem to find a way to uninstall the launcher update.
use setedit n change value from force_fsg_nav_bar to 1 (on global tab)
Like this
Hide navigation buttons, no MIUI gestures.
If you use something like Piecontrol, Gesture Control or any other app to navigate your phone you might want to disable the navigation buttons. As /system can't be rw mounted we can't edit "build.prop" 1. Magisk, install "MagiskHide Props...

Hi,
I know this is a topic that has come a few times.

Hi, this helped me: by simply installing this zip in TWRP => TWRP_Hide_Navigation_Bar_v1.0.zip
INFO: Installing the zip again will unhide the navigation bar (revert the change).
EDIT: My zip (to install in TWRP) doesn't work for devices shipped with Android 10(+). Workaround: Magisk! Install Magisk and this Magisk module => Hide_Navigation_Bar_v1.0-Magisk.zip
.., but to another phone (Redmi T9 Pro) Miui 12.5.6

Question Question regarding custom launchers

Hello, I just got me a Y700 yesterday and after updating to ZUI 14, I started having a annoying bug that I was wondering if it's my update that went bad or if someone else has it too. If I try to use a custom launcher, the swipe up action to go to home or open recent apps, the default launcher's icon bar appears partially but the action doesn't work. Only happens with custom launchers, on the default one the bar appears fully and doesn't block the gesture. Does anyone else have this problem? Just asking before I do a factory reset if it's a problem only with mine. Attaching video showing the behavior. Video showing the problem

I have the global rom and I had issues with nova so I just use the stock launcher.
Yes, this tablet has issues with third party launchers -- any flavored Android ROM really starting Android 11. However the issues on this one is more pronounced since you are unable to use the swipe up to home gesture at all. Either stick to buttons or use the default launcher.
So I'm not sure if it's the rom or nova, but after flashing to the stock chinese rom, I can now use Nova launcher (beta) and it seems to function correctly.

Ahh yeah that’s worked for me for a while with alternate launchers. The gesture controls makes that floating dock come up. I wonder if we can disable it somehow or disable the entire launcher?

Ahh yeah.. makes sense. With the nav buttons, there's a fourth button for the dock on the right hand side that you can't get rid of, whether you're using the stock launcher or a custom one. Not a big deal.

They (Lenovo) probably didn't modify the stock chinese ROM too much since AOSP doesn't have problems with custom launchers, or the Nova beta launcher took care of the issues.
