Unlocked Samsung SM-G781V locked to a Verizon Account - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

I bought a second-hand Verizon phone and custom service says it is locked to a Verizon account so it can't be used on any other SIM, even though the IMEI shows it is technically network unlocked (and they also confirmed it is network unlocked). I was thinking about rooting the phone and flashing it with new firmware, does anyone think that will remove the Verizon account lock since it is not network locked?
Thanks

just test it with another sim in it, you won't be able to root it in very high likelihood so just using as is pretty your only good choice (that doesn't involve selling it again).
a Verizon phone is the worst phone to buy as they never allow bootloader unlocking, so no root or anything else besides stock.

Locked new device to wrong carrier

Hey guys,
I really messed up
So I received a Samsung Note 5 SM-N920W8 directly from Samsung. I need to use a Rogers SIM card in it. Not know if the device was locked or not, I thought I would try a non-Rogers SIM in it... I put in a Virgin mobile SIM and it worked. I thought to myself "GREAT, this is factory unlocked, WOO!" Until a few days later when I put in the Rogers SIM that I need to use in the device, and it asked for an unlock code.
Tried buy a code online for both Rogers and Virgin, no luck. Of course not, since the phone never went through carrier fulfilment
For work reasons, I need to use the Rogers SIM in the phone. Both of which are provided by work.
I never realized the phone would lock itself... I thought this was something only Apple did, where they ship the device unlocked, and it locks to the first carrier SIM inserted. I did not know Samsung did the same thing! Was I wrong in thinking this?
How can I get this unlocked? I'm trying to avoid rooting, as it would trip Knox.
There's no such a thing like sim lock option on any Samsung devices
I'm the biggest Samsung fan
Once you buying sim free device from Samsung it's always be sim free
I thinking you must be doing something wrong with settings
Nope, it's asking for SIM unlock code lol
What to do?
How did you receive a phone 'directly from Samsung'? That option doesn't exist in Canada - but in any event, your phone appears to be locked to Bell/Virgin. Phones don't lock themselves based on the SIM you put in. And why don't you ask whoever you acquired the phone from? If you acquired it legally, this shouldn't be an issue; if you didn't, you shouldn't be here asking for help.

Emergency calls only

Trying to get my Note 8 working on Total wireless. It's supposedly and unlocked phone, but it does have AT&T boot screen. I activated my service, but now it will not work at all. When I try to call, it says "emegency calls only". Does anyone have any idea why it might be doing this? I'm attempting a factory reset right now, in hopes of that working.
Do you have baseband & IMEI? Is knox tripped / rooted? If so, do you have EFS backup?
You may need to contact your carrier, perhaps some sort of activation in the network is needed
Bought second hand? Check with ATT, whether phone is actually unlocked.
I agree, sounds like you bought second hand. If you bought a brand new unlocked model you would not have any carrier boot screen.
You'd have to check if it actually is sim unlocked & if it is it could be as simple as wrong AP settings.

PSA - Sprint Models - Factory reset can cause phone to relock / invalid sim card.

PSA for Sprint Moto z3 Play. After the last software update to Build OCW28.70-47, a factory reset caused my phone to no longer read my sim card and appears to somehow have relocked the phone to Sprint. Prior to this software update and reset, the phone read my T-Mobile sim card fine and connected to the network. Calling Sprint verified that my device was already sim unlocked. Calling T-Mobile and they can't do anything on their end. Lastly calling directly to Motorola, and they confirmed that they have already received other calls and that they are working on a software update to fix this glitch. For now, this leaves me with a phone I can't use until this software update fixes it. So just sharing here so others in this situation won't be in the same boat.

Quick question, did you unlock it through Sprint? How's the service and reception on it?
I'm on T-mobile and thinking of buying a Sprint variant to unlock and use with T-mo.
Thank you
I got this phone from a reseller already unlocked thru Sprint. For the short time it worked on T-Mo before it got relocked, service and reception was fine. But my advice is Don't Do It! Buy yourself the fully unlocked version, don't bother with a Sprint model to unlock as it is not worth the hassle; plus the fully unlocked version has 64gb versus 32gb on the Sprint version. Unless you are on Sprint, don't get the Sprint model!!! My story is similar to hundreds of other people with other phones having much difficulty in getting a Sprint model unlocked to work on other carriers (e.g. Essential phone has lots of similar problems).
UPDATE: Was able to go to a Sprint store, get a sample Sprint sim, insert and request the UICC unlock code and it got pushed through again so now my X3 is again unlocked for any carrier and now works with my T-Mo sim. So you need a Sprint sim to get that unlock code pushed thru, won't work just on wi-fi without that Sprint sim!
have an update for us to hear? this xt1929-3 still unlocked...
we bought this model (sprint) as a cheap gamble off ebay and it was the best thing. put in my redpocket gsm-t sim this morning and it says in the system update setting under uicc unlock "the device is unlocked for any sim card". that was even after unlocking the bootloader last night. thought we were going to need to do some modding to get away from sprint but didnt have to! so thrilled we will have this nice phone for the wife to enjoy.

Carrier Sim lock after Samsung repair

So I bought a Sprint Note 8 (SM-N95OU) that was unlocked from eBay over a year ago. We use T-mobile for our service. Everything was going good until the phone would no longer boot up due to draining all the way to 0%. Called Samsung and they did a free replacement outside of warranty.
So now that it's been repaired it is UICC SIM carrier locked.
Under UICC unlock it says "your device is locked to Sprint SIMS only." A message pops up and says to contact sprint. I contact sprint and give the IMEI and they said I have to contact the owner. I assume they never unregistered it from their account.
Is there anyway we can go back to using the phone? I mean we paid for it and feel like we own it but according to the software it does not seem to be the case. Lol.
Will putting a Sprint SIM in unlock It? I notice it doesn't ask for a pin and I think I read they are unlocked via a signal. That signal would have to be resent or would communication on the Sprint network alone unlock it. Not sure If somehow it will know to unlock itself once it connects to sprints network?
Anyway any help or direction is appreciated. Not sure if I need to sell it to a Sprint user and get a different phone now.
Well I just paid somebody on eBay 10$ to unlock it. So far so good.
I had a very similar situation whichresulted in weeks of back-and-forth communication between Samsung and Sprint advanced technical support. Which that department is a joke in and of itself but the actual solution to my problem was just to insert an active Sprint SIM card into the device and then have them unlock it.

Bought unlocked renewed phone and used TMobile SIM to test, now it's carrier locked.

Out of the box the phone was unbranded, and the phone is for my girlfriend's mom, who lives in the Philippines. I have TMobile and wanted to test that it would work so I put in my sim to test it. After a reboot it had the the TMobile splash, sounds and apps that it didn't have before, and now it says that it's network locked.
Can this be flashed back to the way it was out of the box? I've rooted phones before, so I just need to know what to do IF it's possible, or do I just have to try to get it carrier unlocked now and it will stay TMobile branded?
