Hi, currently my 9t pro has version 12.0.5 (Android 10).
I have root with magisk 25.2 and the twrp version is 3.5.2.9.0 (I point out that, every time I enter recovery, it asks me for the screen unlock pin, without which I cannot access).
I would like to upgrade to version 12.5.2.0 (Android 11).
Do I just boot into twrp, insert the lock screen pin, install the above update, wipe cache and dalvik, install the magisk zip and reboot?
Or am I obliged to update twrp when changing the Android version? The latest version of twrp released for my device seems to me to be 3.6.2.9.0
A thousand thanks

TWRP v3.6.2 should be ok with A10.
On the other side, A11 (AFAIK) will not work with v3.5.2.
Hence better update TWRP
The rest should work the way you descried, just make sure that you upgrade from Global to Global (or EEA to EEA, etc) - ie, not from Global to EEA or so (that would require flashing the Fastboot ROM)
You can also wipe from TWRP:
/data/system/package_cache
PS:
Disable/uninstall Smali Patcher or similar Magisk modules that were specific for the old ROM - to avoid bootloop upon upgrading the ROM and flashing Magisk (if you do not uninstall Magisk, all modules and everything will be back upon your upgrade)

Would you please explain to me how I can upgrade twrp from 3.5.2 to 3.6.2? I also have the official twrp app.
As for the magisk modules these are the ones I currently have installed. Do you think it is better to uninstall magisk directly before entering twrp and flash the new rom and magisk zip?

As usual - TWRP.me, download, find your device, download img and flash to Recovery (you can do from current TWRP or from Fastboot)
Maybe you better disable that liboencrypto module
Or you can try with but study Magisk GitHub Wiki, how to fix the bootloop caused by incompatible modules

The twrp update flash so I can do it directly from the application?
Instead, to avoid a possible bootloop just uninstall that module? Do all the others give problems?
Thank you.

I never use the TWRP app. Read instructions from TWRP.me
You can uninstall modules. But, plz read and LEARN (it's more useful for the future how to dožisable modules from TWRP - docs I pointed you in the previous post)

Hello guys,
I made an update in TWRP and installed Havoc 2.4 to try it. After 1 hour I restored my backup and changed back to MIUI. I couldn't log in, so I cleaned the keyfiles to set a new pin.
I reflashed new Beta (25.4 MIUI - Xiaomi.eu) ROM and Magisk but root does not apply on my device... What is wrong? Seems that it's not possible to root anymore... Its does not give me any fails when installing the magisk 18.1 zip in TWRP...
thanks in advance
Have you tried a simple reboot? Usually it takes a reboot more to apply.
no it's not that. now its always booting into twrp when I try to flash magisk

Extract the boot.image from the rom and place it in your downloads folder.
Now with Magisk Manager , download and install Magisk to that boot image
Magisk will write root to the boot.image file and then will automatically flash the the updated boot image, and restart to system >>> Issue resolved.
I fixed it by wiping data... now its working

I have the same problem with magisk, after weekly update and after magisk installed, boot only TWRP. I tried with18.1 version but will not recognise. Boot image and Magisk 19.1 are in downloads but no success. Anyway, with this weekly update all people have loosen magisk, I have read in Xiaomi forum.

Nope, no issues on my Mi 8. Here is the trick. When updating do not flash Magisk until you out have booted into the system and ran updates and deleted cache and trash, then reboot to recovery and flash Magisk.
If the method that I described before in the previous post doesn't work, then unpack the boot image from the update and flash it to boot in recovery then flash Magisk Canary debug.
I have been doing this for every weekly update using the beta ROM.
I had an issue just once that was resolved by flashing SuperSu, booting to system confirming root, then reboot to recovery and removing Su, flashing the boot and Magisk Canary

Man has found the guilty in Xiaomi.eu/community.
It is not Magisk, but Viper 4.2. I have flashed Magisk, after reboot again in recovery and wanted to flash version 4.1. It was uninstalled, have no Viper, but Magisk is installed ?

I no longer use Viper because my phone has 1 speaker and for me Ainur Sauren works pretty well for all sounds.
For listening to music I have the Pro version of Power amp which has every wanted option such as dynamic compression, dynamic EQ, convolution reverb, limiting , tag editing, visualizations etc, I bought it 5 years ago for $3. Best 3 bucks that I ever spent!
Seriously, I can't recommend Poweramp highly enough, its worth its weight in gold.

when i try to install it i get bootloop and when it installs i get a error that i need to update or reinstall and modules wont work or install but when it updates or reinstall i get a bootloop and then i get pushed into recovery, i installed magisk and patched the boot.img file same error.
what i tryed
1- flashed magisk zip from twrp
2-flashed magisk patched boot with fastboot
3-flashed magisk patched boot and wiped data it crashes some times and works sometime but with out modules and i get error i need to update.
4-flashed EU rom and did the same steps same error
i have
K20pro 10.3.3 global
tried miui eu 10.3.3
the fix
used orange fox recovery with the 19.4 magisk and it worked for me i downloaded it from https://forum.xda-developers.com/k20-pro/how-to/redmi-k20-pro-firmware-10-3-8-0-9-6-13-t3939647
1- you need a otg with a flash memory.
2-install orange fox recovery .
3-wipe data cash and devcash internal storage .
4-from the settings mount system and vendor.
5-then install the magisk 19.4 clear cash and reboot now it works fine for me.
when i first rooted global rom on Mi9t pro i flashed magisk 19.3 and it boot back to twrp then i went to advanced wipe and format data reboot and all is good did you try that.
yeah it wont run modules

your device needs additional setup for magisk to work properly.it will download magisk setup zip, do you want to proceed now?
when i press yes i get a bootloop issue
and if dont i cant run modules
when i try to install modules i get update to the latest magisk its up to date 19.3 and 7.3.2
when you get the bootloop issue after flashing the modules go into twrp and go to advanced wipe then format data i think this is possibly the issue. But backup internal storage to laptop or somewhere before doing this step.

Yes
I have the same problem. I'm on 9T Pro Global on a K20 Pro Raphael. Installed TWRP and Flashed Magisk. Then wipe advanced Davisk and DATA. I installed Magisk manager but cannot install modules... I'm on latest version... It says requires additional setup but sends me to TWRP and I have to restart system all over again.

I flashed twrp recovery 3.3.1.0 raphael official. Then I went and flashed the global miui rom, so far everything is correct, then I flashed magisk 20.4 zip and it gave me error 1. I wanted to flash the uninstaller and it gave me error 1. Someone could help me to solve this.
I have the Mi 9T pro
Miui 11 global stable rom
With Android 10 Q
Unlock bootloader
i run china k20 pro on indian miui 11.01.0
i installed twrp -21 version
installing magisk 20 provides root access however magisk manager asks to something which results in bootloop to recovery
ignoring that request, the module i wanted to install [energized ] asks for updating to magisk 20.1 which also leads to bootloop to recovery.
is there anything to do ? or just wait for magisk 20.2 to be released and then try it
p.s installing magisk was the only way to prevent redmi recovery from overwriting twrp, i don't know if this has any importance
i'm in kinda similar situation ,
installed magisk v20.1 and everything went fine , but when trying to install viper4android it asked me do install busybox , i did it within magisk now it only boots to fastboot , to fix it and make it boot agian i used magisk_uninstaller.zip
boots fine now but can't install magisk again if i do that it will stuck on fastboot screen .
so for your case i suggest using magisk uninstaller.zip
but hope that some one help to install magisk agian

Dont install Viper4android via magisk. Just download the package and install in via TWRP. Use this guide
I have this exact problem right now but even with other versions of magisk, I encounter the same issue. Any suggestions?
Same problem here with magisk I guess it is a compatibly issue with MIUI 11
Yep, it's a MIUI11 issue and the reason I haven't shifted over to it. I suspect whatever release of magisk is in the pipeline will fix it provided it's been reported.
In the meanwhile I've read 19.4 works; you could try the canary builds if that seems to old for your liking... just be careful.
Had the same problem, its because of data encryption.
You guys need to format data before installing magisk.

Even with data formatting 20.1 causes issues: In fact, it seems latest Magisk build seems to be causing issues on all (or, many) builds of MIUI 11.
For k20 pro, 19.3/.4 seems smartest to install and then update via magisk manager
I believe other phones (mi 9?) need even older versions like 17.2, so I wouldn't be surprised if future updates continue to push the installation build back.

I'm hoping the Magisk situation gets fixed. I checked the Magisk support thread and only saw one post about a bootloop with a Mi9T Pro (again, likely data encryption) so I'm given the impression MIUI might be off the radar for Magisk bug fixes.
I've had a couple of issues with Magisk 20.1 on MIUI10 - nothing critical but a couple times Magisk Manager has frozen (i.e. kill the process, relaunch and it works) and a couple hangs when root apps have been launched for the first time (again, kill + relaunch, a few times if necessary). Smooth sailing otherwise but gives me the impression that Magisk isn't without flaws on MIUI. One response was to dump MIUI altogether but I'd rather have a stable hardware experience for now. I tested a lot of custom ROMs on my last device and based on that, I'd like to stick to MIUI for a while.
Out of curiousity what are the other bugs with MIUI11 aside from it not working with encryption?

Other than standard app compatibility issues, I haven't heard of any major MIUI11 bugs, which is fantastic to hear.
I have tried all sorts. MI9T MIUI 11.0.1.0 and magisk just causes recovery bootloop . Gonna try magisk 19.4 if thats a thing mentioned in a previous reply
I use Miui 11.0.3 together with Magisk. I used the following procedure:
1. Copy Magisk 20.1 (for twrp) to your internal storage (e.g. downloads)
2. Install Magisk via TWRP
3. Don't reboot (it will cause bootloop).
4. Do factory reset (it will remove your Data). Your bootloader will remain patched.
5. Reboot your phone, do initial config.
6. Install Magisk Manager and run it so you will see that Magisk is installed.
7. DON'T install additional files suggested by Magisk Manager (or you will end up in bootloop again)
8. Enjoy your rooted K20Pro!
I got the same problem on my k20 pro (with MIUI EU).I try driffent ways provided by magisk official but no one works.I have to flash the system. It's not a good idea for intalling V4A on this phone

In case anyone wondering I have managed to get root with the latest magisk via patched boot image method.

Waiting for your feedback, because my orangefox is ready for OTAs but i think because i forgot to check DM VERITY and FORCED ENCRYPTION it asks for password when rebooting for update and ruins it...this is my guess. So please share your feedback and it you checked the 2 options unlike me.

Okay so, coming from 10.3.4.0 Stable, OFox Recovery and encrypted, the update ran through fine without any problems. Since I'm encrypted I had to enter my password first but after that it started installing the Update. as far as I remember, I've seen that Orangefox's script that prevents Orangefox from being overwritten after every update (it's called OTA.bak I think) already handles both DM-Verity and Force-Encrypt on it's own, at least I didn't had to take any further steps regarding Encryption and such stuff and after updating it booted into MIUI 11 just fine (which ofc since it's an Major Update took a little longer than usual but at least it eventually did)

So what do you do when you're on 10.3.4 pfkeuxm Rom and running with twrp and magisk installed?
Can't I install the miui 11 rom via twrp and then immediately flash magisk again?
Following the advice here, I've got the update installed with twrp and magisk working fine. The only problem I have is that I can't read/write the system partition so titanium backup isn't working. Any ideas how I could fix it?
I cannot root my phone through TWRP for some reason and I would really like to use my phone with Google Pay.

Install Magisk yourself. It will work.
Which zip did you flash? The right version of maiden
Magisk will work.
@XblackdemonX I can't install Magisk since it's giving me an error message. Tried every possible way with no luck
@Turbine1991 I have tried install "twrp-3.3.1-15-raphael-mauronofrio"
After installing it the phone is always going back to Stock rom recovery.

Are you rebooting the device after installing TWRP? If you installed TWRP then rebooted without first trying to install Magisk it'll probably just stick the stock recovery back in place and overwrite TWRP if nothing is done to circumvent stock recovery overwrite. If this doesn't apply then no worries but thought I'd mention it.
That's also an old version of TWRP; have you tried a newer version? I'd say try fastboot boot recovery.img then immediately attempt to install Magisk. You're on MIUI11 so you'll want to go with Magisk 19.3.

You have to install Magisk to prevent the recovery from changing back to stock.
