Introduction - Introductions

I have been using cell phones and smart phones since they came out. My introduction to these kind of devices goes way back to 1994 when in England I first saw the Psion Series 3. I had just about all the iterations of the Series 3 and then the Series 5s and the Series 7 and the Netbook. I loved the Symbian system following the EPOC system. Then had mostly Nokia phones with Symbian until the unwise move of letting Microsoft buy out Nokia. I have had several other brands since them.

[Q] Iphone abouts?

Im giving in and buying an iPhone for professional use however i will still be sporting my Android Tablet everywhere i go.
However everywhere i look the prices for iPhones are MONSTROUS! any one know the best place to pick one up without contract?
P.S. I live in France. Contract prices here are crazy for iPhones.
For less than an iPhone, you could buy a top-end Android phone. Why are you considering only iOS? Does iOS has something that you need that no one else has?
I already have a galaxy tab so its pointless buying an android phone as its the salme thing (same apps) i've always been a bit of an all rounder and expermient with everything.
Ive got a macbook, windows computer, android tablet, and blackberry phone at the moment but i would like to start experimenting with the iPhone and Jailbreak.

he iPhone is a pretty great device considering its developmenta and vast amount of users. When jailbrokwn it becomes a very powerful device but Android has more of a friendly experience compared to the iPhone. But if u wouldhaveto choose on a professional note id go with the iPhone its more operational and have a alot of business oriented apps. Don't get me wrongi loveandroid and wmo but the iPhone has more to offer at the moment.

It's development is tiny compared to Android. iOS 5 is touted to contain every feature available in Android 2.2 and nothing more. Stay away from apple and get some technologically advanced stuff.
I am thinking about what can i say regarding the iphone, but only occurs me one thing: LOL!
As the guy 2 posts above me said try looking in ebay
Or amazon or you can try craiglist or something like that
I'll trade my iphone for your macbook??
My iphone comes with a special cover that makes the iphone
practically invisible!!!
Thanks for your replys guys, Im closing in on a cheap one through my dad's company.
Wait for the iPhone 5 it shouls be out in a few months that way you can get a cheaper iPhone 4

[Q] Are there any new W8 phones coming up?

Hi,
Well i'm looking into a new phone and the windows 8 looks awesome, really- blew my away.
Now, I found the Lumia 1520 and liked it a lot, the problem is the screen, too big.
5.2" is the maximum for me after a big stratch (I'm used to a 3.5" Iphone 4 screen), and 6" is huge.
The ones that are under the 1520 don't have such good specs so I din't like them much.
Are there any upcoming windows 8 phones with good specs and normal screen?
Thanks!

Samsung is rumored to be making a 5 inch 1080p Windows Phone. So is HTC. Nokia just got bought by Microsoft so that would take awhile
There's a number of devices that are coming out. There's something potentially coming from HTC with a dualboot feature, the Lumia 929/Icon (Verizon/US exclusive), two Lumia's with dual-SIM as a feature, that's all I recall.
Apparently the 929/Icon will be something that will be just a hare bigger than the 928, but not as big as the 1520.
Aside from the 1320 and 1520, the current biggest WP8 device is the ATIV S, at 4.8". I really like mine; it's a good screen size and 1280x720 is still better resolution than the iPhone 5 lines have. It's not the newest CPU, but it's still pretty good; dual core 1.5GHz is plenty for everything I've tried on it.
New phones coming?
Well, there are rumors running that some manufacturers (I counted 3) will launch some new phones in the coming year (no sure, but possibilities).
There's probably a new top-notch Samsung coming soon. And a new generation of Nokia Lumias too. They're speculating about a Lumia 630/635 and a new flagship model, successor to 920/925. They must be announced in the coming months, still on Q1-2014.
If you want a large screen to buy right now, but not that large, I would recommend Lumia 625 or ATIV S/Neo for now. They're fascinating phones, and the batteries are damn good.
Like GoodDayToDie I alsoe have an ATIV S and I'm really happy about my choice.
I heard that Microsoft want to pay HTC and Samsung to develop some Dual-Boot devices like Android-WP8 so I think we can expect some pretty cool devices soon.
What I love about WP is you don't need ridiculously powerful hardware, it just works great as it is.
That's why I just purchased an Ativ S, it ticks all the boxes as is very affordable, the new Lumia may be great, but im not paying 4x the amount for a better camera.
Its worth keeping in mind, that one of the greatest benefits in my mind of new devices coming out is they drive down the cost of older parts, parts that will do just a fine job as the new one will in almost all cases
We just got a Lumia 920 for well under half the original MSRP -- they're moving "old" stock to make room for the 925, which is by all accounts actually *worse*. It was a good deal!
Absolutely, this "must have cutting edge" mentality is totally daft when older gear becomes so cheap and is still really good!

Just rumors, I see an immediate problem with a Sony Windows Phone : you'll have Sony hardware with Xbox Music & Videos on it (get it Xbox and Playstation, the two biggest rivals in the game console industry). There have also been rumors about Sony making a Windows Phone since WP7, they never delivered anything.
Samsung is more probable but I'm afraid the market is being too dominated by Nokia/Microsoft for other OEMs to be a part of it. Since the release of GDR3, only Nokia have officially announced and brought out a device with a Snapdragon 800 and a Full HD screen.

iPhone 6 Plus = End of Note series?

http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/note-4-sales-lower-than-early-note-3-interest
For the first time in history, the Note sold less phones than the previous generation. This is without a doubt due to the larger display phones from the obvious competitor, iPhone 6 plus.
If Apple continuous to improve phablet Iphones, and include a stylus, it will be the start of the end for the note series? you think?
The Note 4 was out of stock since day one here in France and most of the carriers haven't got their stock.
If it's the same in other country, I suppose sales figures are normal.
I think it's a lot because the Note 4 isn't really a big upgrade from the Note 3. There are also less differences between phones in general, upgrades aren't as interesting compared to e.g. 2 years ago. Market's getting saturated.
Its the first time they porbably cant produce note series its out of stock in everywhere. And in big markets note 4 sales started like 1 week ago.

This is a great example of manipulation. They are comparing sales of note 3 in it's first month, to sales of note 4 which is out for less than two weeks.
I don't think so. Yes, the note was always the obvious choice for anyone wanting a large phone.... There is so much more choice of large phone these days, but the note is still unrivalled when it comes to that additional feature set that the s pen brings.
I dumped the note series last year when Samsung came in with Knox and region lock etc. A load of BS in my opinion.
However, the note still offers a lot more than the iphone 6 plus ever could
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
This is extremely misleading. The Note 4 didn't roll out fully yet. Its only just currently rolling out in Western Europe, with huge markets like France getting it only last week. I've never been one to hate Apple, heck I use a Mac. But the new iPhone 6 plus is so far behind the note 4, there is no comparison, no threat, no competition.
as others have stated such a misleading article (and unverified at that).
only in south korea and china (i think) that the note 4 was released a full month
Lol they just started selling it few days ago worldwide!
And it's not even available in many countries, i can't buy it in mine!
"End of Note series?"... I can't!
Most likely it's supply issues to do with the hi-res AMOLED panels.
Whatever the case may be, it's ironic that this is even being brought up. Go back a month ago and read what the analysts were estimating for Apple's sales. Several were guessing that Apple sold LESS iPhone 6/6 Plus units that 5s units -- until Apple surprised everyone with their numbers. Until we hear from Sammy directly, I would hold off on pronouncing doom. These tech sites -- especially "trusted" reviews aren't necessarily bastions of reliability.

It's just a IPhone like all other iPhones. Just bigger, that's all.
No additional features... nothing.

There is nothing stopping Samsung from creating a Brand New line if their sales start decreasing dramatically. It's the oldest trick in the book. Change the name, make it appear to be an all new product. I can say first hand that I love my Note 4, and it's by far the best phone I've had to date. I played with an iPhone 6 Plus in the store for about 20 minutes. I was bored out of my mind.
I can't even buy it and I'm in California
Hilarious article and thread. Hahaha! Ended.
I highly doubt that the iPhone 6+ will be the end of the Note series. The numbers can be deceiving. Maybe Samsung didn't sell as many Note 4s because the Note 3s were such a good phone and people didn't find as much of an urge to upgrade. Samsung may not have sold as many in the first few days as Apple, but maybe that is because apple fans will wait in line for weeks to get their new phones, where all of us are wiser and have better stuff to do and don't have time to waste like that. There are tons of places that are sold out. I had to wait for a week and a half before they had one in stock.

One thing has nothing to do with the other. Large western markets and the high-end segment are saturated which is causing a sales and market share decline for all OEMs selling high-end products. Growth is in low and mid-range products in emerging markets where Samsung and Apple are both weaker and will make less unit profit if they pursue and compete against the Chinese and Indian OEMs. Both Apple and Samsung lost market share last quarter and will continue to in spite of the benefit of new high-end product launches which won't compensate for the far greater growth of other segments and regions.
As for phablets in general, they are a niche product and will continue to be outsold by smartphones through 2018 by a ratio of 2:1. Not every wants or will ever want a giant phone.
The iPhone 6 Plus was a horrible experience. Actually, ios 8 was a horrible experience.
It just.....didn't work.

Name your Top-10 devices released this year!

Hey guys,
So, as you already know, the end of 2015 is near and in just a couple of weeks we'll enter 2016, embracing the new devices, new technologies, new chips that will reside in your future phones and tablets, and perhaps will see interesting changes to the manufacturers from around the world as one makes a mistake, while others learn and improve from theirs
Seeing as how this year has been a really interesting one for pretty much every OEM out there, whether the device manufacturedc shipped with Android, iOS, Windows or other operating system, like when Motorola kinda disappointed us with updates for Moto E, LG pumped out great G4 and V10, and Samsung went backwards on the Galaxy S6.
Nevertheless, I think we can all agree that this year everybody found a device to pick up, no matter if its on the low-end pricing model like the Moto G or Xperia E4, or a solid mid-range like Nexus 5X and Motorola X Play, going into the premium-class range of top-devices like Xperia Z5, Galaxy S6, iPhone 6S, Nexus 6P, and many others
But I guess I'll get straight to the point:
What, in your opinion, were the Top-10 best mobile devices released througout 2015?
If you can't put them in a straight-up order - no fear, just list them here and we'll discuss it together
Aaaaaaand GO!

Should I order Iphone 7 Plus and return Note 7, or will Note 7 be here soon?

I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and order an IPhone 7 plus or wait it out. With the government getting involved is there any chance we will get our new Notes before sometime in Oct or is that off the table now? Is there a chance Samsung scraps the Note 7 this year?
Just wondering if Note 7 took a big hit this year and it is dead basically.
What is everyone's opinion? Is the 7 Plus an as premium device as the Note 7? Or should I stick this wait out? I really like the Note, but I'm sick of the tiny screen on my S7 I'm using right now while my Note 7 is boxed up.
With Samsung offering loaners now, is it safe to say it will be awhile before replacements are here?
Tell me the pros and cons of having a 7 Plus versus Note 7. Yes, I know note has spen and expandable memeory.
Just because Note 7 may not be your device doesn't mean you should go for iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.
You should ask yourself which ecosystem works for you the best. You have Android and Apple iOS ecosystems and OSes. Apple iOS ecosystem and OS is designed for ease of use. While Android is designed to be customized to work the way you want and works best for you. Apple iOS OS closed source and closed ecosystem giving you more security, but less control and less you can do with the apps and hardware. While Android is open source OS and open ecosystem this actually giving you more that you can do with the apps and hardware as well as more control over your experience with the device. This is what you should be using in making the decision rather than this one Android device (when there is so many Android devices in the market and will be shortly) over iPhone 7/Plus.
They are many Android devices that are out now and getting released shortly. I would recommend checking them out first before making a decision.
Again Apple iOS and Android are not interchangeable and are completely different ecosystems & OSes that are designed for completely two different people.
The issue with Galaxy Note 7 right now is that it was released out before it was ready. So basically we are early adopters of Note 7. There are the bad as well as the good that comes with being early adopters of technology. Within a month or two the Galaxy Note 7 will be fine for the masses.
This has nothing to do with Android as a whole. This has to do with Samsung releasing Galaxy Note 7 before it was ready. So don't judge Android over Samsung's issues with Galaxy Note 7.
Just remember Apple antenna issues with iPhone in the past. Possible hardware issues at first release is always possible and does happen from time to time even with Apple as well as Android hardware manufacturers. Keep that in mind.
BTY - This is most likely the best answer you going to get since we are Android people here. Just saying.

Guys. There's no denying that iOS is closed source and therefore has less flexibility than Android. Another thing you have to consider though is Android phones, as good as they are, they have many many bad things. Modern Galaxy phones are harder to repair/replace parts yourself, have very poor resale value, and can get slow and depleted battery life extremely fast. Consider this. The iPhone 6S, a year old phone, is beating the recently released Note 7 in benchmarks and real world usage, with a dual core chip and 2GB of RAM vs Quad (And Exynos Octa) core SoC and 4GB of RAM.

I seen those videos before, but for me that is not real life situations I really use my phone for business, I use Word, Excel, Outlook, on daily basis, my son is Apple fan and I brought the iPhone 6S plus for him. Because his work he needs to use outlook all the time, and he is impress on how fast my note7 is in receiving attachments and sending them comparing with his phone. That is just an example, but there are more situations when his phone loose connectivity where my phone still have full connectivity.
I already pre order the IPhone 7 plus for my son. I will be waiting for my note 7 when become available to be exchanged.

There's no denying that either. Samsung phones get better reception than iPhones.
First thing: Samsung is not Android itself. Android is Google OS that manufacture's install on their devices. There are several manufactures that use Android on their devices. Samsung is not the only manufacture that uses Android. So judging Android by Samsung devices like Note 7 is being unfair to Android itself.
Again: choosing between Android and iOS is ALL ABOUT THE ECOSYSTEM. The hardware is secondary.
Nexus Sailfish, Nexus Marlin, Xiaomi Redmi 4, Xiaomi Mi Note 2, Asus Zenfone 3, OnePlus 3, Sony Xperia Z5, LG V20, and so much more devices for this year, 2016.
What I am saying is that no one should be judging Android vs iOS over hardware. They both are about the ecosystem. Once you chosen which ecosystem then you choose your device by what you want from the hardware. Not the other way around.

No amoled 2k, Samsung Pay, widgets, real NFC, removable storage, s pen features, etc. The first four really do it for me. I'm sure I'm forgetting some features I take for granted too.
you couldn't pay me to get an iphone. i can't stand ios. even if i don't keep my note 7 i am staying with an android phone. more than likely an lg v20
Lets be honest here the first Iphone and the latest look the same. I mean Apple was bashing Samsung for the large phone and look now. To me if you want to go backwards then get an Iphone. Also I purchase phones like Oneplus and Nexus because I like pure Android which if all you have had is Samsung you have no clue what it truly is.
My phone today has the google contacts and dialer instead of Samsung. I use Nova with a Nougat based theme and the icons and background have all been changed. Yeah I like Samsung Pay and honestly its a good phone but my 1+3 for half the price is a beautiful phone as well, it also runs close to stock android with a couple of nice features I wish Sammy would pick up
