Question [solved] Installing twrp for the first time - Redmi Note 10 Pro

Hi all,
The steps:
- Unlocked successfully my Redmi Note 10 Pro
- through adb, rebooted to bootloader (fastboot, not the fastbootd thing)
- flashed twrp 3.6.2something image
- did a fastboot reboot
- went into twrp once (yeah!)
- dum dum me rebooted from within twrp to system, thinking I got that
The issue:
- tried to go into recovery, went to xioami recovery (so... my twrp is gone I guess!)
- went into fastboot once more, reflashed twrp, rebooted
- every reboot I go to the system, never into twrp
I did a fastboot boot twrp.img and I got twrp to boot just fine, except well, it ain't flashed!
How do I install twrp then? Is there something I need to reset somewhere? How do I make sure twrp 'remains' after i flash it?
Probably newbie questions, sincere apologies if this has been answered a thousand times already, for some reason whenever I try searching the forum I get an error :/

Think I found how in this message:

It worked perfectly. The steps I followed were the following:
1. boot into fastboot mode
2. "fastboot boot twrp-recovery.img"
3. install twrp-recovery.img on the recovery partition
4. reboot into recovery
5. reboot into system
6. done

Note that once I confirmed the recovery was installed, I installed crDroid right away, and was again able to access twrp after shutting down the device.
Hopefully this kinda useless thread will help someone!

Yeah. It's actually a bug on the twrp itself. The developer maybe missed that.
This stable version or not?

Is there a problem with rebooting from recovery? Almost never am I ever able to reboot to system from recovery. It just freezes if I click reboot to system. At first, I thought I flashed wrong and there is no OS in the phone, but later I just switched it off and switched it on again, and it worked just fine. Also, later I just went to recovery and selected reboot to system and it froze.

[RECOVERY] TWRP 3.3.1-0 - TeamWin Recovery Project
Hello, I am releasing an official version of TWRP I have been working on for the last 6 weeks. If you download the patched fastboot image as described in the device installation page, you can use TWRP to repack the non-fastboot image for a permanent installation. Currently encryption is supported in the fastboot version and the permanently installed version. Thanks for your patience waiting for official support.
I was kindly given the device from Asus, and will not be blind supporting this device.

Amazing news! I'm expecting to receive my Zenfone 6 30 edition tomorrow, so the timing couldn't be more perfect.
Is it working with LOS 16 encryption?
Yes. I merged in the good work from Peter Cai for wrapped key support. First it will try a non wrapped key. If that fails it will try a wrapped key. I tested both LOS and Omni.

stuck on Trying Decryption for several minutes after fastboot boot twrp-installer-fastboot-3.3.1-0-I01WD.img
I can boot twrp without password and flash persistent version. Maybe it will work then?
Nope. Cannot boot recovery after flashing. Only LOS booting.
Here is my experience:
Lineage for me is really broken, after a while if I reboot my phone I eventually get stuck in a bootloop, I always customise many settings and haven't narrowed done what the issue is. I was hoping this official TWRP would help with this (constantly reinstalling everything was getting really annoying) but it didn't seem to change much.
Flashing the first IMG (the second download) is the IMG file that works otherwise I bootloop. The flash seems to not in into as many mounting errors as the previous mod and flashing lineageos works but only through ADB sideload or you will again bootloop. This is an improvement because before side loading was not possible.
After flashing the twrp installer zip thus successfully passes but never installs correctly and every time I went through an install I would be taken to lineageOS recovery. From here side loading twrp doesn't work but side loading magisk and mindthegapps is fine with no errors that would occur before.
Booting lineage for the first time didn't open the factory wipe error screen as well.
TLDR; TWRP doesn't stick on the phone but I haven't had a reboot leading to an eventual bootloop so far. So far a partial success
Are you on the most recent firmware? Did you install the image in the download link through the fastboot installer version of TWRP through the repack recovery ramdisk option of TWRP?

So i tried to flash the zip:
I am on the latest omnirom 2019-08-31 with unofficial twrp 3.3.1-19 from mauronofrio. I flashed omnirom coming from stock 191 if it matters.
Twrp 3.3.1-19 successfully decrypts.
I flashed twrp-installer-3.3.1-0-I01WD.zip and magisk.zip from twrp 3.3.1-19 > reboot to recovery. Enter decryption pin > trying decryption. Thats where i am stuck after waiting a few minutes.
Forcing a reboot with vol down + power recovery starts again. I can not boot system.
After a few minutes of waiting nothing happens after "using secdis" in the recovery.log.
Rebooting into bootloader and fastbooting twrp 3.3.1-19 and installing it works as does booting to system after.

Depending on where in data you file is stored you can try "adb pull /path/to/you/file.txt".
Adb works even while twrp is stuck during decryption.
If that does not work try booting into bootloader > fastboot boot twrp3.3.1-19 image from mauronofrio. In twrp 3.3.1-19 flash the twrp3.3.1-19 installer.zip and magisk.zip. Reboot system. That worked for me on omnirom.

What happens when you install 3.3.1-19 and

2. Boot to recovery and enter you password to decrypt?

What zip are you flashing? I am only supporting flashing the recovery image through the fastboot installer and using TWRP's repacking tools.

TWRP only updates the key in memory and it shouldn't overwrite the local data key. If it's unable to decrypt normally, it will attempt to use a wrapped key in memory.

Unable to install TWRP

Hello guys.
I have a problem trying to install custom recovery on my phone. I tried the fastboot method ( fastboot flash recovery twrp.img ) it does install the twrp but after reboot the official recovery it's back.
The problem is that is not the first time I try to install, before I succeeded because I had the startup page of twrp with that slide. Now no matter what twrp I try to install it boots in twrp and after reboot stock comes back.
I tried even those scripts which are installing automatically the recovery but without success.
Any thoughts?
Many thanks

Can't access twrp 3.4.0.1, H870

Hello,
I've installed twrp 3.4.0.1 via fastboot, but after I select yes when i'm asked about erasing my data, the phone just boot up normally without deleting any of my data, but does not enter twrp either. Tried 3.4.0.0 too, no luck. Only 3.3.1.0 worked, but when I try to backup it says something like 'can't mount system partition' and some other errors. I think that version is too old for my rom, so I'm afraid to use it for backup/flash. My phone is LG G6 H870, Android 9, software version V30b. The phone is not rooted, the bootloader is unlocked. Tried to erase cache partition and install twrp 3.4.01 again, didn't work. I can't install Skyhawk or Orangefox becuase I can't use twrp.
Is anybody facing this problem too?
Thanks!

HI You need to use OrangeFox recovery or SkyHawk. If you plan to go to 10, then you need SkyHawk. And I think SkyHawk is maintained but OrangeFox not.

So can I install SkyHawk via fastboot over stock recovery without installing twrp beforehand? I see there are multiple files in the shyhawk zip, should I only extract the recovery img and install it via fastboot? I'm kinda new to this, thanks!

HI. It is made to flash in TWRP (same as OrangFox) So I really don't know if that recovery.img flashing through Fastboot works. Never tried, sorry.
Maybe someone knows though.

Ok, thanks, I'll try to find a solution, or maybe I'll just wait for the next version of twrp.
You should try installing the recovery and immediately installing any custom rom, when i flashed twrp the first time i had to do it several times cause somehow it got "erased" every time i noot the stock OS.
Ig you don't want to install a custom rom try right after installing twrp and on the fastboot screen to reboot to recovery with (Volume - ) button and power.
I think the idea is not letting the Stock os boot
Also that error. i have the same problem, the only moment it doesn't appear is when you wipe all data with the "Format Data" option inside "Wipe" menu in twrp.
After you boot to the OS once and go back to recovery it will come again everytime you flash something.
Not sure if its a problem or not, because i've dirty installed some updates and also installed gapps and magisk even with that error.
Im currently in A10 using Havoc and NikGapps.

Yes, I know I have to install twrp again every time I let the stock rom boot, but the only version of twrp working is 3.2.3 and I think that was released before the G6 received official Android 9 update, so that's why I'm not very confident using it. I've tried to enter recovery immediately after I've installed it, so I don't think that's the problem.
I have the same problem on the LG G6 H870. I won't get to TWRP. I tried several versions of TWRP and nothing.
Edit.
This twrp is functional:
https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=289997
After installation using fastboot, restart directly to twrp using power+vol. down.
Finally i've successfully flashed Skyhawk using TWRP 3.3.1, so thanks everyone for advice!
Still couldn't make official TWRP 3.4.0/3.4.0.1 work.

Hi, I don't know if this goes here, I hope you can help me, I update twrp from version 3.1 to 3.4 and now I can't access twrp, how can I fix it?
Hello again, I answer myself, and if it helps someone else, using adb fastboot with twrp 3.2 Melina solves it and twrp works perfectly again.

Question Encryption / Mounting Issue In Recovery (Both TWRP and OrangeFox)

Hello, I have a weird issue with my note 10 pro where after I install any rom it just refuses to mount any storage, and the phone's internal storage stops showing up on my pc when I'm in any recovery mode. I've tried TWRP and OrangeFox, tried Pixel Experience Plus and now Octavi OS. I've also tried flashing this forced encryption disabler (link https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...disk-quota-disabler-11-2-2020.3817389/page-65), at first it kept failing telling me it failed to mount, however after I rebooted the recovery it actually flashed. Despite that my phone is still encrypted.
Luckily I managed to flash magisk before booting into the custom rom for the first time so it actually flashed, but I can't flash anything else.
Has anyone else experienced this bug? I just want to be able to flash stuff.
note: I've tried with and without a password or a pin, and tried both TWRP and OrangeFox. They just never ask for any authentication.
is your phone storage showing 0 in recovery?
The available version of OrangeFox does NOT support data partition decryption, because of that nobody uses it on our phone ...
