Question Custom Rom Support? [GLOBAL] - Motorola Edge 30 Ultra / Motorola Moto X30 Pro

With the announcement of the global version of the Edge 30 Ultra, can we expect custom rom support for this device?
I'm not very knowledgeable in the Motorola space. Looking for a OnePlus alternative since all their new devices are held up with MSM tool auth woes.

The edge 30 ultra is not limited, there is stock firmware, but if you customize the Rom, you have to wait for the kernel to open source, about 3 months later, and then you need to be adapted by a developer

I know somebody is working on LineageOS for the Ultra

Because there is little rom development for this device?

Greetings Friends,
I have seen very little development or developers for this device is very rare because the A1 before releasing the Kernel already had development, and this device was already released the kernel but I still see little development.
Yeah i dunno why developers not intrested in this device
How long ago did they start selling these devices?

Longer than A1 when it takes first customs
Before Launching the source code of the A1 Kernel and there were ROMS and Magisk modules for this phone, the participation is very minimal, I think they were all for the RN5.
I just hope developers will have a look at Mi A2. Is it too early to expect development?

Lineage for the A1 started 6 months after the release.
edit: Also the Pie update is near so probably nobody wants to waste time on bringing up a 8.1. based rom.
Another thing is that it has Treble GSI A/B support, so you can install a variety of already popular roms right off the bat. I know a custom kernel is under development that has both overclock and underclock as well. I am currently using the Arrow GSI rom and it works very well. I have xposed and root, I also get way better battery life than with the stock rom. The only bug I have is the front flashlight turns on when I use the front camera. You can flash any of the A/B roms on this site if you want more roms.
It even includes Pie roms and lineage os. I see no reason devs would want to spend time making something that already exists.
They will most likely work on kernel development/tweaks to fix bugs in the already existing treble roms, like the camera bug in the rom I am using.

The Pros of a Mi 9T Pro over a K20 Pro?

So, I was a bit impatient when getting this phone, and I got it around 2 months earlier (first week of July), in the form of the K20 Pro. Now that the Mi 9T Pro has come out, I wanted to know what exactly are the differences? From what I gathered, my phone with the global rom just has its bootloader already unlocked, and the global rom is fake. I noticed as much when I found out that I wouldn't be receiving updates for my OS, and some banking apps were either warning me about root access, or refusing to work (Google Pay).
What I was thinking was to flash the Mi 9T Pro ROM on my phone when it became available. Considering it should be official, I thought that it might work using the MiFlash tool as well, which would be pretty nice. However I'm not sure whether this is possible. What I wanted to ask was - is it possible to flash the OFFICIAL EU ROM for the Mi 9T Pro, on my K20 Pro (w/ the fake global rom)? And if so, would there be any benefits (outside of finally getting updates, and having an official ROM)? I doubt I'd be able to relock my bootloader (and frankly I don't want to risk hardbricking my phone...), but I can circumvent that with Magisk.
Thanks a ton!

Yes you should be able to flash the official EEA fastboot ROM, when it's available. And you are correct in saying you won't be able to lock the bootloader. Benefits depend on your definition and what your comparing against. Since the 7 day wait was over I've been on custom ROMs. I'm my opinion there are no benefits to being on any official MIUI, but then I don't like MIUI. When on the EEA ROM you should get OTA updates, after that I'm struggling to think of a benefit. I'm sure others can add more.

I'd honestly agree with you - I'm a bit of a purist. But at this point, I've become way too attuned to the gestures, and they all feel so second-nature to me now, compared with what I've heard for Android.
Also my worries about custom ROMs were about some hardware compatability, since it's a relatively new device. Like the camera for example, I was planning on installing a custom ROM later on down the line, like in 2020.
That's great to hear though, thanks a bunch!

The MIUI gestures was the only thing I liked and actually missed after the week, I'm hoping the Android Q gestures will be good enough. As things stand you may not have to wait until the end of the year, things are picking up the pace more lately. Most ROMs are stable, provided you follow the installation guides fully and not take shortcuts. Really it's camera apps that still have some catching up to do. The ANX app, which is the stock MIUI camera app, still has bugs. It crashes when trying to access the telephoto lens. I've not found a GCam port that works well yet, the one that can access all three lenses constantly has FC's. And ones that are more stable don't access all three lenses.

Which is easy rootable phone?

Which is the most root friendly phone where I can set up Magisk ??
I don't know how recent you want, but I have the Axon 7. It's really easily rooted.

I want 2016+ phones, cheap and which i can root easily, I'm tired to find any.
Generally speaking I'd suggest to check models that are in BOTH Lineage and TWRP official support lists:
https://download.lineageos.org/ (click on menu)
https://twrp.me/Devices/
That way besides stock ROM (probably not difficult to root because above availability) you will always have the alternative ROM + Recovery.

Also, check which devices are the most popular on XDA forum; there's lots of old but great flagship devices like the OP3 that are still getting tons of attention and are available on the cheap.
The problem is that most of your cheaper phones are either built intentionally to be tough to root, or ppl who buy them just don't care enough to do the extra. I know there was a midrange Moto a few years back and I'm sure it is still getting indie development, but the name escapes me... Try googling "most easily rooted phones" and see what you get. Might just need to get secondhand/older/foreign if cost is an issue.
Edit: just noticed your objection to older phones. You do realize that if you are going to root your phone anyway, you are 20x better off with a flagship 2014 model that has a Qualcomm 8xx PROCESSOR (or even most 7 and 6 series) than an Intel or almost any Mediatek processor? You don't need to worry about the age of it if it's in good condition and there's active development. THAT'S how you'll save money IMO.

Cheap? I'd say Xiaomi A2 or the Poco F1. Xiaomi bootloader is locked from the factory, but they have an official tool called Mi Unlocker to easily unlock it.
In case of Mi A2, released in 2016, since it's an AndroidOne device, you can simply unlock it using fastboot. It also has LineageOS and TWRP official support. From factory it came with Oreo, then updated to Pie. And they will release Android 10 for it at the end of this month (https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-X...edge-towards-Android-10-update.447310.0.html)
I'm running Mi A2 with Havoc OS v2.8 based on Android Pie, rooted with Magisk 20.2, and EdXposed 0.4.5. The device pass SafetyNet and can install Netflix from the Play Store.
They released Mi A3 with AMOLED display. But it's 720p with a notch, a downgrade from the notchless 1080p LCD display of Mi A2. But it has 3 cameras instead of two, and 4000mah battery instead of 3000mah in Mi A2, and will receive official Android 11.
Which phones are currently easiest to unlock, root and install ROMs?

Question Lineage OS

Just a question for the future. Are there custom roms like Lineage OS coming for Mi 11 Ultra?
Probably just a matter of time....
It's available for most of the earlier devices already: https://www.cyanogenmods.org/lineageos-18-mi-10-pro/
I don't think it will show up anytime soon...
When I got MiNote10, it was one of few phones with new 108MP camera sensor, developers had bad time trying to find drivers, or do anything to be able to use camera, as Xiaomi release only part of source code for this phone. As for now, there is no official LOS for MiNote10, just UNOFFICIAL, and the phone was released around November 2019 ?
MI11 Ultra also have new camera sensor GN2, display on the back, new chipset, I wish to see LOS or other custom ROM, but I know how hard is to build custom ROM for new hardware if you don't have drivers/source code.. Only hope in Xiaomi if they release complete source code needed to build ROM.
We'll have to wait for the popularity of this phone to go up first. Might take a while. But with miui12.5 being the crap fest that it is right now... I hope we don't have to wait too long for an aosp based ROM to come out
I would voluteer for testing... anything is better than this miui crap. So, anyone, please DM me, if you need a tester.
And put TWRP on the list. I might suffer from a good old fashioned paranoia, but kind if don't trust the current distributions of TWRP for the MI11U.

Now the moderator has re-opened this thread we can go on discussing the 12 Pro EEA.
I managed to flash the full EEA Stable beta V13.0.17.0 SLBEUXM recovery rom by just using the option to update by choosing the update file I downloaded seperatly.
Android Security-update date is now 2022-05-01.
Looks everything is fine, it is rooted again and I am using Swift Backup (paid) instead of Titanium Backup since the latter one is not updated anymore since 2019 and it seems it won't be updated anymore.
Swift has a different modern layout and you can make the backup simultaniously or seperate to the device and/or cloud.
For now it works very well.
Also I use Callrecorder from Skavalex since the EEA rom does not support call-recording by itself.
Another thing is that there is atm no custom recovery that works with the 12 Pro or even Android 12 in general.
Since yesterday there is a new update for the Global EEA version.
The date of the security patch is still 1st of May so it is not clear what the changes are.
Will try to find out and post it here when available.

just RGPD.
Better than stock rom https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-13-stable-release.64441/
Well the EEA Global version differs due to the EU Privacy laws so no ads when you during the first setup of the device choose not to allow ads and afterwards you can still switch them off..
Further there is much less bloatware and the few apps that are defined as bloatware you can uninstall easily with ADB or with the XiaomiAdbflash tool.
There is no need for a custom rom like the xiaomi.eu rom because when you are unlocked it is quite easy to remove 99% of the apps you don't like but you can still get the monthly updates from Xiaomi themselves so no issues with camera and other kind of stuff compared with a custom rom.
Nowadays there is no real need for a custom rom because you can make the factory rom as clean as you want by yourself and eventually use apps like Blokada.

Try a Eu rom first then post your review.
Tried it on 2 previous Xiaomi phones and I stand with my opinion.
Been in the custom rom development since 2006 so I know what I am talking about.

And the call recorder, the complete themes + aod, the optimizations, a Chinese base etc...
BTW:the Xiaomi eu roms started in 2010.
Chinese MIUI has seemingly improved a lot, and seemed like most of the bloatware was removable when I was trying it. However MIUI and Xiaomi.eu still have that highly suspicious and deeply integrated "Security" app which I would prefer not to have at all. (Have not tried Global or EEA). (Additionally the xiaomi.eu "devs" (maybe not all, but seemingly the majority of them) have serious attitude issues which do not inspire any trust, and a lot of base apps in .EU still want unnecessary permissions and internet connections).
Would love to see Lineage for this phone, even if it means losing the MIUI camera - a choice of ROMs, especially very clean / basic ones, is not a bad thing
Xiaomi is a Chinese brand, EEA, Global, etc. roms are based on Chinese roms and adapted to countries according to the version.
Xiaomi Eu roms are custom roms based on the version of the phone on Chinese or global roms.
For those based on Chinese you will have features or options before xiaomi releases an update.
For example: the video for the calls does not exist on the stock roms except the Chinese ones.
It is a bit of a stretch to call the xiaomi.eu roms "custom" roms, and somewhat of an insult to true custom rom developers who develop the rom in the entirety. .eu roms are mildly modified Chinese MIUI ROMs and over the years there seems to be less and less modifications (at least in the phones I've tried them on). They are certainly useful for phones that are not officially launched globally and full google services is desired, without Chinese specific apps, but where official global or eea roms exist it may be better to go for the official EEA ROM (privacy wise, as another poster indicated) which would have everything necessary without all the telemetry, or alternatively full custom like Arrow / Lineage / Omni / Pixel Experience.
It is quite subjective though and if you prefer Chinese official or .eu ROM's and they do everything you want, then great. If they removed the Security thing & telemetry, or allowed the user to deny permissions while still being able to use certain apps, I would actually rate the Chinese ROM very highly. Right now I am undecided what is best, but hoping for Lineage in the near future.

Call Recorder worked already on rooted stok rom with Skavalex Call Recorder which I use for many years now even way before Xiaomi came into the play arena of phones.
Not having the Chinese base is a big plus and all the optimizations you can do yourself and stock Camera is better than Gcam.

We are talking about Xiaomi eu ROMs that do not need root to have the call recorder.
And it's not Skavalex but Skvalex who It's not free.
"Not having the Chinese base is a big plus and all the optimizations you can do yourself"
Which?
I am talking about official Global EEA and the latter one is point of discussion in this thread and not any other rom.
Optimizations like getting rid of all the apps you do not like, get rid of the few (Xiaomi) apps that eventually will "call home" when you not want it, when not selected at 1st setup that you allow no ads you will get no ads.
When unlocked and rooted I can do with it as much as with any other custom rom but keep the monthly official updates.
So no need for custom rom's and yes it is Skvalex and I have a paid version for it (few bucks) many years ago and he still maintains the app.
