Is there any way to change the color of the notification LED on the Note 8 without root? I'd like to change it for each specific notification (gmail, missed call, text, etc.). I have tried Light Flow with no success.
I use light manager, have been using it for years.
On the note 8 it works well for notifications, and works for charging but not as well as previous phones.
What is funny is there is a "LED Icon Editor" in the Notification Access area in settings. When I click to allow it to access notifications it goes right back off. I can't find this app anywhere else on the phone.

I don't pay much attention to battery life. I've been using the app for years, no problems for me.

This is actually for the LED Case which you can customise the LED notifications
For anyone finding this thread later, LightFlow works with the Note 8 without root

The problem with Light Flow on the Note 8, though, is that it appears that, even though I believe the LED is capable of RGB, it gets some colors very wrong. It may just be custom colors that are the problem.
Light Flow also now does a bunch of other stuff, aside from the LED. You can have it filter notifications based on pattern matching, make a different sound, repeat the sound, use a popup, add vibration. It does a bunch of Notification-handling stuff and is a bit simpler and more reliable (in my experience anyway) than trying to use a cobble of Tasker + AutoNotification.
I also use light flow and I've had no issues once set up although I do have the colour differences, e.g. select white and the led flashes a purple'ish colour.
Other than that it's been fine, negligible battery usage too.

That setting is for the LED wallet cover/case Samsung makes for the Note 8 and can only be turned on after inserting the phone is to that specific case.
I use light manqger, since S3, then, the colors were accurate, but in my note 4 note 7 and now with the note 8, I find the colors missrpresented, no white, but a bluish tone, no yellow, but a somewhat orange tint, etc, so, I guess the led is not capable to display accurate colors, but, for me, that is not a big deal, the available color suffice my needs

Sorry to bump a 2 year old thread but does Light Flow work for Facebook Messenger for you? I can't seem to get it to display blue color for Messenger no matter which app I use for changing LED colors.

No worries, although I don't think I can help.
I no longer use Messenger however I did used to be able to assign a colour of my choice to it, but who knows how the app has changed in the last couple of years. Not only that but I have a Note 10 now which has no led light :/ Sorry bud

Thanks for replying. I found apps that work but all of them make another notification which is seen on AOD and it just bothers me. Ended up with default LED light and custom Edge Lighting colors for each app with the Edge Lighting Fix App
Hi to all,
Huawei have very bad AOD, it doesn't have any information only time. I found this AOD that have so much settings and very, very, useful.
- AOD (time, calendar, weather),
- Notification (when you get messages on som application like Viber it shows Viber icon, you can touch icon and read message on AOD without unlock it),
- Blacklist app - app you dont want to show on AOD,
- Duble tap to wake, swipe up for camera and etc...,
- Edge lights for notifications,
- Background for wallpaper,
- Adaptive mod,
- Font style,
- Music Controls,
- Automatic move clock,
- And many more settings...

p.s. this is not my application i just found it. All the best, enjoy
Hmm... Looks pretty sweet. I will definitely give it a try. It is odd that the Huawei features are so... thin. I mean, why wouldn't they at least give you the ability to toggle notification icons for just a few common apps?
I tried this and the battery drain is high even with just the digital clock on.
Yeah, I said the same in the other thread. It was using 1% in around 10 - 15 minutes and I hadn't even turned on proximity detection.
I used it for half a day. But he consumes a lot of charge. I do not recommend.
Yeah I noticed my battery draining pretty fast too. However I still think this app is pretty cool and worth it, especially over the crappy native AOD... As my phone still gets through a full day usually.
Though if I think I'm gonna have a day of heavy phone use or I'm travelling or something, I'll just disable it.
I'm using this one, which is very good as well.

I think there's nothing which can be done about battery, whatever app you use it will always drain something.

It does if you configure it properly. And yeah, there were problems with notifications showing up on the M20 Pro (and I suppose onother EMUI 9 phones as well), but they have been fixed in the meantime.
Must admit I just use it during the day and when I put my phone on the wireless charging pad...just like all other aod apps, it just consumes too much battery to be taken in consideration for constant use (the dev himself doesn't advise to use it this way either). I guess devs can't do nothing about it, it's just the way it is with aod.

Built in AOD consumes very little power but a third party app version doesn't have elevated system privileges so it's going to eat battery like crazy to keep itself open and running.
It's similar to why built in SMS uses very little power but an app like Facebook Messenger is a notorious battery hog.
Would someone please tell me if there's a notification indicator on the phone, so I could see if a message has come in from across the room? I've seen reference to a flashing light on the top of the phone, but can't get confirmation of this. If it's there, is it effective? (There's no AOD, I don't think?) Thanks!
There's AOD and the pop up camera has a notification light

There is AOD I believe,
The notification light will be visible as a small ring on top of the pop up camera, visible only from certain angles bit not from front,
Suits me better because I just need to see from a away from the table after shower or when it's on charge
There is AOD? Oh, that's fantastic - thank you. I wasn't at all sure from the reviews. If it has AOD, I'm in. Can the notification light change colour, depending upon notification type?
There is aod , as far as i've noticed atleast on my blue version led in popup camera is blue color, didnt really noticed if it changes color.
Im used to the led light on my previous samsung phones. The s10 doesn't have one but people were asking samsung to implement the camera cut out light, others made apps and one that was interesting that was the AOD would activate only when there was a notification to open.
As im looking to switch to the s10, are there news on the implementation of the notification light or new apps? Do the current apps work well?
Thank you!
If you're only looking for an LED notification, Samsung has updated the Edge Lighting + settings within the Good Lock app to create an notification ring to display around the camera cut out. I have it set on my phone and it performs exactly to my liking.

I have read and seen videos on it when it was released but it only worked for a few seconds when the notification showed up and didn't keep "blinking" like the led/until you seen or open the notification. Its still like that right?
I'm not 100% sure about that. I rarely see my notifications right away and generally check my phone when I get back to my desk when at work.
Holey Light on the play store...
I have read that holey lights uses quite a bit of battery, i wanted something that didn't use as much.
There was this AOD app that would only show when there was a notification but i don't know how well it works

Hi!
Does the Huawei P30 Pro have the following features:
- Always On Display with ALL 3rd party notifications?
- Double-tap to sleep from home AND lockscreen
- Double-tap to wake from Always On Display
Thank you!
Yes the AOD supports all 3rd party notifications as long as they appear on the status bar. There are exceptions to this, for 'silent' notifications that only appear when you pull the bar down.
I don't believe that it supports double tap in any way, shape or form. With regards to tap-to-sleep this wouldn't work as the double-tap gesture is used to take a screenshot.
Double tap to wake from AOD is not supported either, however if you have fingerprint unlock it is kinda 'one-tap-to-wake' as you place your finger on the fingerprint scanner and the screen comes on.

Good to know about 3rd party notification on the AOD. Do the icons stay on the AOD even if you wake the phone up, but do not act on those notifications?
I'm asking because the way Xiaomi Mi 9 handles this is a complete mess.
Thank you!

No. When you unlock the phone (even if you don't dismiss the notifications) the icons will disappear from the AOD until another notification from the same app comes through.
For example, if you have a whatsapp message and unlock the phone the WA icon will disappear from the AOD until you receive another WA message.
EDIT: The exception to this is persistent notifications. For example I have VPN Unlimited. If this is connected then the icon remains. Likewise with WhatsApp Web notification, that remains.

Ah. I see. What an odd implementation. Xiaomi did the same thing. Good to know.
Are you happy with your Huawei? I'd mostly get it because of the camera.

To each their own, but I think it makes perfect sense. If I have unlocked the device then I am aware of the notifications - they don't get removed from the phone, just the AOD. Much in the same way a notification LED would handle it on a Samsung or other device. I would, if I could, get rid of the persistent notifications on the AOD, but other than that I don't mind.
Am I happy with the Huawei? In a way, yes. I got it for the camera and I am very impressed with it, unless you wish to shoot video. If you want to shoot video (with special mention of super-slow-motion videos) then you should look to get a different device - In my opinion.
The still photography is better than pretty much any other phone that I've ever used or come across and the night-time photography is also excellent. Video wise the panning stutters a little, the slow motion is purely interpolation (the sensor only captures 240fps, not 960 as it claims) and the colours in video seem... unrealistic. Sometimes too soft, sometimes too vivid. It's good, but not as good as others on the market for video.
Hello all,
I'm currently in China and would like to buy a P30 (Pro) and use it in Europe / Germany.
Are there different hardware specs (e. G. Lte bands) except for the obvious memory and storage options?
Thank you very much ?
