Introducing me - Introductions

To start I am just “tech savvy” enough to create a MESS . I came upon this site trying to figure out a few things about my Amazon kindle fire tablet. Everything we own is Apple (and in my opinion WAY more user friendly -some probably has to do with me being a creature of habit ). We have the Blink security system (which is Alexa/Amazon) and I wanted to be able to say “Alexa, show garage camera”. Well that works great -just a matter of syncing accounts. I would like to download other apps OUTSIDE of the doggone Amazon store. I did figure out how to finally download and install all 4 of the APK’s to be able to even download the Google Play app but now my problem is finding the correct version for my tablet. I’ve made it this close but it was time to put it down before it ended up chucked out in the street!!!! I believe this site will help me tremendously!! Oh I forgot to mention, a lot of the “walk-thrus” have you downloading this or that app…… I CAN’T EVEN DOWNLOAD WHAT I WANT . Anyway I did finally find the “back door” to getting the APK files. I am glad to be here -I seriously doubt I will be of any help to anyone but I am definitely adamant on finding answers. I am willing to try 🫣 lol. Thanks again for welcoming me 🥹

You came to the right place, loads of knowledge around, search is the key.

Thank you very much!!! Once I get this mess figured out, there are more than likely a “few” things that I could learn about my phone -and not just trial and error

ROM's SKIP Capabilities?

JACxHEROSki-v2.1

= does in this ROM it has the "Skip" button when signing in?
'Core' download link:
http://content.modaco.net/Hero/2.2-update-...core-signed.zip
= also in this ROM?
= just wanted to be sure coz my G1 isn't activated yet. i can't use wifi to sign-in to google i can only use whn i got skipped on that step.
Well, if you bang the phone against your head a few times anything is possible
I heard you can also open the terminal that way also
It will also make you invisible, quick go into the girl's locker room to see if it worked
all adp based roms (confirmed) and all hero roms (to my knowledge) have the ability to skip past the activation.

you really have stopped answering questions lol
hint
Instead of hitting the new thread button, try the search one
I won't be a complete **** the whole time
Yes all hero roms allow you to skip sign in and will allow you to use wi-fi
You could have easily found that out by going back a few threads

bbbbbbbbbbuuuuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttttt gridlock............. its sooooo hard to search...... it involves using my brain to a minimal extent and also it means i have to do stuff like look........... also i have to think............. and to top it all off there are mean people on xda that will don't want to be kind and polite and answer my questions.......... imma gonna go cry in a corner now
You just get to the point david when the same ?s have been asked some many times which could have easily been answered in the same amount of time it took to post a new thread.that you just get cynical, plus it doesn't help that I have bad influances and a couple drinks in me
Ps I did answer the ?
i wish i had a few drinks in me.... and trust me i know the feeling... some nights i am just happier then others (it shows when you see how much of an ass i am to people) like tonight i found some sweet custom shapes for photoshop that got me thinking of a new theme so i am happy tonight
I must say that I have noticed a huge slowdown of stupid and repeative questions since codina, supreme and me have been hijacking threads out the ass, easily getting the post numbers up to over 100 before we get bored or have them locked
Ain't that the truth, since I don't got a computer now more I can't be making anything plus I am too lazy to learn how to make a theme, **** even set up adb, I won't be making any, any time time soon. One of these days I will learn, maybe even make my own rom but it prob won't be any time soon. I tried to pick up coding but I just can't keep interest, I understand it but I ger bored. At least I can say I did my homework how how android works and the understanding of linux helps.
I need to gain some hacker friends though, since the one I got now is unreliable
I needed to track down some info earlier and hit a brick wall, plus I wanna know how to track someone phone or at least the general area they are in

Noob (to Sylvania Tablet) ANy help would do

Hi Guru's.
Im back and i got my new gadget but im not too sure what to do on it quiet yet. i been searching online all day to try and find a better market place and been seeing all this tec talk that i dont understand about APK's and roots stuff. So im hopeing that some one will be able to help me a little by DUMBING some terms and directions down for me so i can make the best of my tablet or it will be returned and ill have the easy IPAD come tax returns lol.
Im tec savy, but yall are so good at what you do here so im hoping that some nice person will guide me in the right direction.
Also ive seen some threads with questions on what apps to install and such, but then i was confused on which apps to really install beucase folk has had issues with the apps that they installed. so believe me before i get a ignorant response to my topic i have done my leg work and ive read over 50 pages of talk about this tablet. And i have an idea on what to do but im still not sure.
Thanks a Bunch
<3 Chayda B
Unfortunately I am also not so great with this but will explain some terms as best I can...(I'm also a noob)
APK: Is the term used for applications on the Android Operating System.
Root: Is a term that describes unlocking your phone's true potential. This is accomplished because normally the Android OS has certain permissions unlocked for the user and other super permissions locked. This defines what the unrooted OS will let you do to the device without harming it. Rooting basically unlocks those hidden(super) permissions allowing you to do much more to the software and hardware like overclocking your CPU to make it faster... umm also allows you to do things like backup applications or extract them and on some devices play around or look through the device's scripts and system files. Ask the community about rooting as they can probably explain it better than I can. Sorry!
Sadly about the Market, it is not fully unlocked in all countries and I think you need special licensing to access certain apps or apks on the market. As for your Silvania I would recommend going to Androidtablets.net and search for your device. There is a mini community there for your tablet, maybe you can get more help there.
this tablet become truly enjoyable once you have the real Marketplace on it.
I put together a walk through that takes you through all the steps necessary to get it installed and working on your tablet here.
I take zero credit for any of the work that went into getting it working. I mainly made the page as a reference for myself in-case i need to do it again.
If you hit a snag let me know and i'll do what i can to help.
just as a note i also have the gingerbread keyboard and live wallpapers working on mine. i'll see how my market guide is received before i put together anything about putting these others on our tablet.

Don't take this the wrong way, but creating a website for the Thunderbolt right now is like showing up late to a party with a 12 pack of Bud Light. Everyone will be happy you came, but you didn't bring anything that wasn't already there. Now, if you show up with a bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniel's, you will be the shiznit at the party. So, if you can, please try to bring something different to your website. With that said, I'll be sure to keep checking on your site, it's always nice to have more people at the party.

To be honest, I love this idea. It's kind of hard to find updated roms and mods for any phone, not to mention the Thunderbolt. BeardedMan... Why is making a website like this, which will (hopefully) be a good hub for Thunderbolt mods and roms, getting "late to the party?" Is there another website out there like this, besides the android forms or Rom Manager? If there is, I'd like to know.
frankzua77, I would like to say thank you. If this website becomes what I think it will, it will make modding the Thunderbolt so much easier. If you need any help, just let me know.
I think the problem beardedman is referencing is the fact that there are a lot of android websites/forums already (even thunderbolt specific) and that there are a lot of much newer phones getting the attention. I have yet to not find anything I'm looking for without a 10 second search on Google. And the Thunderbolt is real close to being yesterday's superphone, if it's not already.
Plus, the problem with any of these sites is someone has to maintain it...which means sifting through posts, updating daily, etc. Unless it's a wiki that anyone can update, it's the same reason that the stickies all get outdated. Heck, it's the same reason I've started threads on many forums for many topics trying to compile information and eventually given up.
Now that I've rained on the parade and come off as a prick, I do applaud the effort...even if it doesn't stay updated or become the hub you imagine, at least you have an idea and a passion and are trying to do something about it. Don't lose that. And who knows...maybe it's just what the community needs

I have a "Thunderbolt" folder in my Bookmarks (just like I used to with my Incredible) that I have the five links in. I can open all the links and catch up with all the newest Thunderbolt news, for the most part. And the Thunderbolt is old news actually, just being honest.
TUDrewser understood what I meant, I wasn't being rude. ThunderNet, trying checking the above sites, I bet you'll find answers to whatever questions you have.

Please see my sig..
Users can submit a MOD, Downlad mods or whatever right from the web.
Still a WIP, but just needs attention.
Not knocking this idea at all, but should really consider opening it up to a wiki format and not center only on the thunderbolt.
!
I really appreciate everyone that makes their point, I am currently working on the page. One of my goals is to have videos that can show you a ROM even before you consider downloading it. I know we are focusing on the tbolt, who knows maybe later on this expands to having other phones and stuff...
I need your help on deciding on a domain name! Right now im using a free domain service but I would like to purchase a domain, any ideas???

Job interview Qs - need advice

Can all developers please share some information regarding job interviews?
I would like to know how to improve myself in a interview for development and how to improve my answers in order to make myself more appealing.
Here are some questions that i've been asked and would like to know how to improve the answers too:
1) When you need help with coding, what do you do? - what sites do you use? - How do you approach a solution?
2) When do you approach you senior developer?
3) How do you keep up to date ?
4) Give me an example of when you solved a difficult problem using PHP (or whataever language)
Basically many examples need to be given, not sure how to answer them.
There are other questions that I'll ask when they come to mind.
I need some input guys!! or at least guide me in the right direction please

If I do go for a site, I first use Google and anything relevant to what I'm already trying to do to solve the problem. If Google doesn't help, or the answers are too vague and I need something more specific then there's no better help out there than StackOverflow. If you don't know it, get to know it
Also, see the next question.

In the above scenario, after you've tried for yourself for a while at least. A senior dev will get narked if you keep hassling them without at least trying to help yourself!

Learn to prioritise. There's nothing really more to say about that as it's a personal experience thing. Make sure you keep notes of every task you need to do and mark it done when it's done, no matter how trivial it seems. You get better at it the more you do it.

This is obviously a very personal question that no-one can answer for you. I'm not gonna tell you about any projects I've worked on and had to deal with problems because there's no point. If you give it as an example they'll only ask you to expand on it and you won't be able to. Besides, it's all well and good trying to impress, but don't out-and-out lie at an interview. Basically, they just want to know that you *can* solve problems. Tell them something where you learnt something that you were able to use again - it shows a willingness to learn, the ability to understand there are things you need to learn, and that you can grow from such a situation.
Other than that, be confident and remember that they've got you in for an interview because they're already interested. Also, it's not a 1-way street. They might be arseholes that you'd never work for. The interview is as much for you as it is for them.
Not sure if any of that has been any help, but they're my honest answers anyway.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on

This was indeed my exact answer! For some reason that is seen as a 'junior' solution believe it or not! I'm so pissed cause that is what people do...even seniors.

The question was more regarding, how do you keep up to date with software/tech basically. For example Wordpress has been updated. How did you know about it etc.
There is a new CMS system, how do you find out about it? etc.

I did try answer this question as you stated, it is hard though cause there was like 12 of them, giving constant examples was a PITA. I deal with it every day yet I found it awkward to sit there and tell a stranger all about it and that I am capable of handling it....

I will try to learn these pointer so that they are second nature. I need to boost my confidence too it's just that I try not to be arrogant and it actually become a downhill after that.
I need to improve my answers and don't know where to ask!

In that case, tech blogs with RSS feeds. I use iGoogle as my home page both at home and at work and it has different feeds on there for different bits of tech (web development, windows development, mobile development etc..)
Also, I think confidence is best when it's natural. If you've not got it yet then just keep getting better at what you're doing and you'll eventually get it. I've been doing it a long time now so only get a slight flutter of nerves at interviews. It's normally just a case of answering questions honestly and asking a couple of good ones back and I get the job. There's a lot of people out there doing development work, but not that many that have stuck it out and got actually good at it. Stick at it and you'll become a valuable commodity!

Thanks, what sort of feeds are you subscribed too?
I think I need to do something like this. Also, is it productive for developers to be on G+? Is there a benefit?
You know the answer to the question about solving a problem was to go to the original source, like wordpress has their own codex/reference site. Php has theirs, jQuery and all that. I use those site but didn't even consider stating it in the interview.

I plan to stick at it, since its putting food in my plate but I need to get better since like yesterday! Its been my life since January, really focusing on it but now trying to get a balance in my life back again.
Do you have any advice or pointers that you'd like to share from your experience please?
Thanks for your time Archer
Here's a list of the feeds I have on the "development" tab of my home page...
MSDN .Net Blog
Android Developers Blog
Visual C# News
Windows Phone Developers Blog
jQuery Blog
Just have a search for blogs that are relevant to your interests and most of them will either work as an RSS feed direct, or will have an RSS or Atom link, both of which are perfect for iGoogle (or other RSS readers).
I do use G+, but not in a professional capacity at all. To be honest though, I don't use any social networks for anything professional. I probably would if I had my own business and needed to market myself, but I don't so it's just not relevant.
As for pointers, the only thing I can really say is that when someone presents you with a challenge, look at it as an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skill-set. I've seen many programmers respond with "Yeah, you can't do it like that. We'll do it like this instead." That's bull. There's virtually nothing you can't make your computer or website do, with just some imagination and perseverance. And it goes without saying, the more you enjoy it the better you're likely to be at it.
So what field are you going into? You said you've been doing it since January, but I expect you've been doing it a lot longer than that. Is this your first time developing as a career?

I know - I saw it this morning when I opened my browser and immediately thought about this thread lol.
I'm gutted as it's the perfect home page for my needs. All their advice about getting weather widgets and looking on the Play Store for replacements has got nothing to do with having an RSS reader home page.
Thanks for the extra links - I'll have a look through them.

Bluetooth file transfer

Since the latest question on this in the forum was back in 2016, and it was not answered, I open a new thread.
I can pair my TP with OSX, and ask for Bluetooth to send a file to the TP. But it fails, fails and fails again.
It would be nice, as I do this all the time with my phone.
If there's something I need to do, please say; or install, please say. Thanks so much.
I'm on Noughat.
I never had any success transferring files using Bluetooth. WiFi is better faster and 100 % reliable, for example use this app:

HP-TOUCHPAD, I should just figure out where you live, buy your neighbor out, and live next door. But such a move will mean we talk about nothing else but TP. This cannot be healthy. But you get my point: I cannot even begin to describe how helpful you have been to me. To be honest, after installing Google, I've never used it. Always using F-Droid. So, I will look there first and see, if not, then fire up Google. Thanks, thanks, ever so much!:good::highfive::victory:

...as I don't have the money to support them in their Pro Version, I feel the need to come here and HEAP, HEAP, HEAP praises on them for this GREAT, GREAT, GREAT app! I even tried to mess it up by selecting more than one file, it uploaded them all quickly to my TP. Wow! One more reason why I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my TP.
