I have the same problem. Most likely boot.img you have is already patched by another application. In my case it's factory installed phh's superuser.

Rooting just not working

Hello,
I have tried searching these forums for an eligible solution however all my attempted search terms came back with threads that did not quite explain what i am experiencing. Or for that matter were understandable by me. So excuse me in advance if you believe this question has been answered somewhere else. Instead of expressing your rage please feel free to send me a message pointing me in the right direction.
I have tried multiple ways to obtain root access to my tablet. Sadly all of them failed.
What I understand from this is that somehow there is not enough memory on a partition in order to succeed.
Here's the conflict Does one need root access to say, enlarge or change a partition?
DooMLoRD's method seemed to get the furthest but ultimately failed.

Why not just flash a rooted custom rom, like overcome ROM for example.

Thank you for the reply.
I wish to clear out bloatware and that's all. I do not prefer starting another research of which custom ROM to choose. I find all this phone and linux related stuff confusing enough as it is.
I am using Samsung's standard ROM and there must be a way to obtain root rights to that.
If you are using froyo, use z4root...and if you are using gingerbread, flash any rooted kernel
Sent from my GT-P1000 using xda app-developers app
Just install cfroot kernel but the problem is stock rom 2.3.6 only left 19kb on fresh installation so rooting installation not 100% work..
So better choice is install overcome kernel coz its rooting on kernel not push su in system..

[Q] Custom kernal/ROM - root "disappeared" after some time

Hello all,
Bit of background, I've been rooting phones since my old HTC Hero so I'm not a complete newb... but your help on this would be appreciated.
Got a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 some years ago, of course immediately rooted it and put on a ROM (non-stock, not CM). Anyhoo all things go well for several years. Late last year I put a new kernel and Asylum 4.4 ROM on it. Again all is pretty well, works as intended.
BUT
I tried to do something which required root the other day and things were not successful. Tried a few bits and pieces, fired up SuperSU app, informed me that root was out of date, flash a new one... tried that, but it failed.
Long story short, I've flashed new kernel/recovery (raw_kernel_r4_j43) and new ROM (4.4.2 SlimSaber), tried flashing SuperSU from recovery, tried FramaRoot... Flashing in recovery indicates success, but RootChecker still indicates that there is no root access. FramaRoot comes up with an error advising me to use the "build.prop" (maybe "local.prop"?) trick. Whatever I've tried is all to no avail. To be clear, the device works perfectly otherwise - boots up normally, runs apps without problem, etc. Developer menus and so on all available. Root access just doesn't stick, and whenever I try to do something that requires root access - change DPI for instance - the app just hangs.
Here's the log from RootChecker Pro:

4. Install ROM Manager.
5. Install SuperSU(Chainfire) from Play Store.
6. Open SuperSU and update SU binary. I saw a message to disable KNOX. I did it
7. Install CWM Touch.
Then I installed other apps that need SU - Triangle Away, Titanium Backup. These apps worked fine for me. I went ahead and froze bloatware.

So my device is rooted, but i don't have permission. Tried to copy .su file from xbin to bin, not possible.
Uninstalled reinstalled, unrooted rerooted, reinstalled SuperSu from playstore.
Made sure no double superuser programs running.
Got rid of Knox.
Tried to custom install Supersu update, says invalid certificate.
I extracted SuperSU.zip and tried to copy the .su file to \bin but also didn't work.
I believe if i can copy the .su file in \xbin to \bin the permissions wil be there. Bought Rootbrowser but error when copying. Or give permission on file SetUID.
Can't run Bootbox cause didn't install before root stopped working. Also Titanium backup stopped working now.
Any ideas how to fix? Don't want to factory reset. Can't be to difficult to fix. Any help will be appreciated this is the first time I have rooted.
PS. If this post is in the wrong place please advise where itshould be.

Unable to extract zip file

I've got a freshly installed Magisk v14, with manager 5.6.0, running on an Oukitel K10 with Android 7.1.1.
Version 15+ of Magisk causes a boot loop on this device, so I'm stuck on 14.
Anyway, installing downloaded Magisk modules from the zip file, or from the Downloads section in the manager, I get logs like:
Code:
- Copying zip to temp directory
- Installing Emoji_one-v1.311.zip
- Mounting /system, /vendor, /data, /cache
! Unable to extract zip file!
Failed!
! Installation failed
The MagiskManager directory does exist. I also deleted it and let the manager recreate it by downloading the magisk zip again. No change.
What can I do?
Might be an issue with unzip. Try if installing the Busybox module from the Downloads section works, and if it does, try installing modules again (after rebooting).
Installing BusyBox worked, but even after a reboot I get the same result when attempting to install other stuff. Also, BusyBox is listed under "Update Available" in the downloads section even though I already installed 1.27.2, twice.

That most likely means it did not work. Post the install log from installing the Busybox module.
Hm. Yes, the log doesn't seem as fine.

Yeah, there's an issue with unzip:
Code:
update-binary[110]: unzip: not found
Might be an issue with your Magisk installation or a device thing, hard to say....
Have you tried installing a zip through recovery? If you can install the Busybox module in recovery it might fix things.

I have not tried that. I currently have the stock recovery flashed. So I guess this means flashing TWRP, then flashing Busybox, and perhaps also attempting to flash Magisk itself through the recovery?
Hopefully I got that right. I'm a bit new to this.

You don't have to install TWRP, you can just boot it:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery twrp.img
I attempted to install both Magisk and Busybox from TWRP, and while the Magisk installer seems to run fine, I get to allow root access to stuff in Android afterwards and I get the Magisk Manager and such, I still can't install Busybox. Also, it seems from the log that Magisk itself is also having some issues the UI isn't telling me about.
The main issue seems to be the following error:
Code:
I:[MTP] MtpServer::run fd: 26
E:[MTP] got unsupported command UNKNOWNE:[MTP] response write returned -1, errno: 19, exiting MtpServer::run loop
Searching Google for the above error returns very little help.
I pasted the entire log here, from me booting TWRP and attempting to install Magisk and Busybox a few times. The Busybox installer claims Magisk isn't installed.
I can't post links yet, so this is code:
Code:
http://paste.debian.net/1010746/

hello,
Very simple solution for me at least.
i found this thread because the same thing just happened to me on g900t s5 running lineageOS. Magisk said couldnt extract Zip everytime.
My problem i believe was that i installed busybox from Apkpure and not playstore
Because when i uninstalled Busybox from apkpure then installed busybox from playtore the unzip errors are gone!
Maybe its because i has a bad copy of busybox?
Idk but that was the solution for me!
Hope this helps someone
Me helps install again magisk by twrp.
Install the es file explorer once and extract the zip at least once, It will show a list of programs by which to extract, select es file extractor and check the always button now go back to the magisk manager and try again you should be good to go.
magisk zip
My problem solved by typing real path.
I was use command to install a module using this code
Code:
twrp install sdcard/module.zip
Give an error, so i change to
Code:
twrp install /sdcard/module.zip
Everything ok.
