Unlocking Bootloader on JP Pixel 5 AU Carrier - Google Pixel 5 Questions & Answers

I'm planning to buy the JP version, AU carrier of the Pixel 5. Can I unlock the bootloader of it? (Idk about OEM Unlock and Bootloader Unlock are the same)
I know that Verizon and Softbank carriers cannot unlock bootloader. Will it be the same for Au? Anyone using Au version pixel?

Bootloader unlock and OEM unlocking are one in the same

Is there a specific reason why you want to buy the JP version?
If you are in Australia, why not just buy from your official retailers?
If you buy a bootloader locked device from a bootloader lock carrier, the device will always remain bootloader locked no matter what sim card you put in.

I live in Korea and need a Felica for when I go to Japan. Au doesn't mean Australia, it's the Japanese cellular provider.

If "OEM unlocking" is grayed out in Dev Ops, you're out of luck. If it's available then you're good to go

Unlocked Bootloader/Unlocked Phone?

Im planning to buy an unlocked version on the nexus straight from Google.com. My question is since its going to be an unlocked version does it mean it will also have an unlocked bootloader?? I know I need to unlock the bootloader so I can root and eventually install ROMS. Also, is it true that IF i need to unlock the bootloader GOOGLE will void my warranty?
Help is appreciated.

The bootloader is not unlocked out of the box however once you have fastboot setup it's easily unlocked with one command while in the bootloader.
Yes. It voids your warranty.

So although its an unlocked version still the bootloader is locked? Maybe Im getting confused between an unlocked phone and an unlocked bootloader. No relation?

Unlocked phone = not SIM locked to any particular provider.
Unlocked bootloader = you can flash whatever software you like on the phone = void warranty.

Great I guess that answers my questions. IS there a way to reverse it back to the Google locked boot-loader in case I need to return?

At the moment, no.
this should amuse you...
the $530 "unlocked" phone from Google is Sim unlocked...but so is the $180 TMO phone from Google For kicks I put my ATT Sim in my friend's TMO N1 and as expected, it worked just fine on ATT.
Not sure why they are calling it unlocked since all being sold are unlocked (unless my friend magically received the wrong phone) but I guess if that helps move units...why not. Perhaps they mean you are not locked into any contracts by purchasing it
yea that's wat is meant....
Even the subsidized version from Tmobile is not sim locked. Same phone, just get it at a cheaper price.

The "version" you get for $180 is the exact same one you get with $530. No one ever said it was locked. What they are doing is for the $180 price, you are re-locking yourself into another 2 year contract with T-Mobile and getting the phone at a subsidized price.
Unlike the phone they sell in the stores, this will be SIM unlocked since it is NOT T-Mobile branded.
T-Mobile (as well as any other carrier) will see this as a "gray market" device and will not support it, although, they will allow it on their network.
Hope this clarification helps.

[Q] Unlocked Sprint M8 Still can't use AT&T or T-Mobile

I bought a used Sprint M8 Not HK version
And I successfully unlocked the simlock, because I have been to China and I can use the GSM and CDMA network there.
I want to change my carrier as AT&T or T-mobile even if Version Wireless, but it just tell me the SIM Card Is Invalid !
I visited a lot of website and tried any possible solution on the Internet, include but not limite in: Change ROM,Flash Radio,Format /cache /sytem /data,Retry simlock again and again,Set QPST,Set CDMAworkstation,Set DFS ...
Well,
I even want to buy the unlock code from xxxxxx.com,but they warn me do not buy the code if the phone didn't request.
Why the phone didn't request the unlock code?
I truly hope I can unlock this phone,
If you know how to deal with it,Please help me!
I am using Sprint (maybe)original ROM,Software version 3.31.654.2,OS vision Android 4.4.4,Baseband version 1.08.20.0916
Even if you SIM unlock the phone you can't use it on another domestic carrier. If you're international that's another story.

What do you mean by unlocked. There bootloader unlock and sim unlock. Sim unlock just allows you to use another network. Bootloader unlock allows to to flash. Also there is no Verizon firmware to flash because the Verizon model can't be bootloader unlocked which means you can't flash it. Verizon and att are notoriously the worst when it comes to having there phones eligible to be bootloader unlocked

I guess it's SIM unlocked since I can pretty much use it with any carrier by swapping the SIM card. I bought the phone new and unlocked from Republic Wireless and am trying to get it working with full features with Verizon Prepaid. A couple of folks on Reddit mentioned that I could flash the phone with Verizon software in order to get it to work as if I'd bought the G6 from Verizon.

Which Note 9?

I have a note 8 on AT&t prepaid. The bootloader is locked. I would like to upgrade to the 9. Is there a variant that works on AT&t prepaid that will allow me to root? Unlocked phone are just carrier unlocked right? Will the unlocked Sammy still let me root?
Thanks in advance.

I don't use AT&T, but yes unlocked phones just mean sim unlocked. Not the same as bootloader unlocked.
U.S. models are bootloader locked so no root there. Exynos models and N9600 are bootloader unlocked. You would need to check the available bands on those models to ensure they match your carrier, or wait until someone on AT&T confirms

Is it possible to unlock LG V40 T-Mobile US for use in UK?

Hello. I was iterested in getting a second-hand V40 which happens to be the US T-Mobile version. But i want to use it here in the UK. I've checked the specs and it seems to support all the band numbers which my carrier uses. But I have read that the T-Mobile V40s are somewhat restricted and it is not possible to root or crossflash. Does anyone know if it is possible to unlock for UK use? And if so, how?
Many thanks
What do you mean? Unlock is sum unlocking, root is root, cross flash is cross flash. Dont tell me you got the word unlock mixed up.
Rooting and crossflashing will not unlock the sim carrier for you to use as youll need to unlock before crossflashing. Also why not just go buy an unlocked variant as LG also has the US unlocked version. every manufacturer's unlocked version will always have more radio bands.
