Maybe because the bootloader is unlocked but if you have a Chinese device and use a global rom you will must root your device.

Only if you're on factory firmware. If you attempt to lock the bootloader on modified firmware (or other than stock) you risk bricking your device.

Just bought MI A2 from official dealer and the phone is stuck on Android one version 8.1.0 and not getting PIE via OTA.
Is there a safe method to manually install the latest stock PIE version of android one ?
Is it possible the update was removed from the servers ?

I have the MI FLASH TOOL installed but it would not succeed to install the drivers.
I assume nothing will work if windows does not have correct drivers installed.
Can I install the fastboot driver manually ? which driver ?
Btw, the phone is detected in fastboot mode by the FASTBOOT/ADB command line interface. Is that helpfull to me ?

Afaik...to flash latest pie base firmware, first you need to unlock your phone's bootloader and then only you can flash available fastboot firmware (pie based) using MiFlash tool.
Try to OTA update using WiFi(Keep the phone to airplane mode and just turn on the WiFi and then try to update). Also before updating the phone just turn on the oem unlock switch under developer option on safer side so you can unlock your bootloader later if anything goes wrong while updating your device since many people have reported that they've bricked their device during updating their device..
Updaing to PIE was successfull.
Used this guide to unlock bootloader: https://www.androidexplained.com/mi-a2-unlock-bootloader/
Then used the MI FLASH tool to apply the stock rom. First atemp failed with "write error" after 55 seconds, but I tried a second time and this time the process completed.

I hope you flash both this fastboot codes when unlocked your bootloader.
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
fastboot flashing unlock_critical
Unlock_Critical is require to flash custom roms and if you would want to revert back to stock from custom rom.

Yes, did both commands. However, after flashing PIE via the flash tool, the bootloader became locked again.

I'd like to go back to miui 10 as well (v2.13). BL unlocked but I have a weird problem when flashing. I can't flash crclist partition (just failed). What you guys think - is safe to try fastboot erase and then flash? Someone had promlem like mine before?
Btw - crclist "image" is just a txt file.

1 post on second page. But thread started says he can't flash fastboot ROM.
I have a (Raphael) which is Chinese rom.So I wanted to flash a global rom of k20 pro, although my mi account have permission to unlock bootloader.so can you tell me full details of it,how to flash?
first of all unlock your bootloader using the mi flash tool
than just flash the mi9t pro global rom on it.. IMP dont forget to keep the bootloader unlock. never lock the bootloader after flashing global.. if you try to lock the bootloader again.. it will brick your device.
select the clean all option in the flashtool.. NOT CLEAN AND LOCK

you need to flash via fastboot flash.
first of all apply for the unlock here
http://en.miui.com/unlock/
secondly once you unlock successfully flash the rom and do not lock again.. make sure to select the clean all option in the tool.
I am not used up to fastboot method for flashing rom.can you tell me the full process of flash with twrp?or can I flash global rom with twrp?and last one is can you give me the global recovery rom link?
Mate, I suggest you atleast search for threads before opening a new one with a repeat question.

I've tried to flash android 12 beta and accidentally locked my device,
now my device is locked and there is no rom or recovery, I can only access fastboot.
When I try to unlock it, says "please add your account in miui settings" but I can't do that because I have no rom.
what can I do?
If you have access to fastboot you will have to flash stock miui Rom throu mi flash. After that unlock your bootloader again

If you're able to flash the stock rom that came with the phone using mi flash, you're fine. If not, like Zoltan78 said, EDL mode 100%. I had the same issue with a Redmi K20 Pro (china) after flashing global rom and I accidentally left "flash and lock" enabled. I'm in Romania...at 4:00 AM I was on teamviewer with some Xiaomi Dev from Thailand and he had a Dev account to flash it via EDL mode, but I had to remove the back of the phone and hold a screwdriver on 2 pins while booting up the phone.
Okay if flashtool doesnt want may try
- indunesia
- global (5,4GB)
download type must be fastboot its a bit down/lower had to scroll!
dont know which you prefer/what you had
if non of that watch for type fastboot HERE
the tgz can extracted with 7zip
after that there is a tar, that can also be extracted by 7zip
if you not already have it install the latest fastboot or put the fastboot files from miui into that folder
use the flash_all.bat
Happened to me, too. I simply had to unlock the mi 11 again and Android 12 booted. Maybe I have been lucky but it worked

So you must try to re unlock bootloader first. Your bootloader was unlocked before ?
If yes try to unlock again with Mi Unlock after that you must flash your fastboot rom from Xiaomi Flash Tool
I advise to flash your original fastboot firmware device (EEA, MIX, CN, etc...)
