Picked up my wizard this morning. I knew out of the box that it wasn't going to be what I wanted and after reading for about a hour today I have sucessfully sim and cid unlocked my phone and flashed it to the 2.3 custom rom I found here.
The info on the forum cut my learning curve by about 90% so thx guys!

You came,
You read,

Yes. Excellent job. Now you should work on seeing if you can fix the dropped calls issue with that ROM while using data apps
Good to see some successful posts.. out of many unsuccessful ones.
impressive! didn't think it was possible anymore but I have reason to continue living! thanks ec9!
In the famous words of myspace addicts...."you're in my top 8!"....
But since I'm on T-Mobile I can say...."you're in myfav5!"

That is amazing to see now. Very impressive.
hey!!
ec9, i feel exactly the same way as you!! i started the same way as you did. this device is awesome, i bought it the 1st week it was out went around looking how to customize it. after reading a lot on here ive successfully unlocked and flashed my 2nd ROM! it was moliskis rom. awesome site... Thank you all for making it what it is!
Just f*ucking Google it...
I too, came to XDA on a chance Google search. After spending several hours reading and chasing various links around, I identified my device as a G4, performed the reception fix, CID-unlocked it via the $42 IMEI site, and flashed it with Molski 3.0.0.0 -- NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. (Except for missed calls, non-responsive buttons, etc., but that's ALSO covered in a separate thread)
XDA is an amazing resource, with some incredibly talented people. All I can say to other noobs is to be patient, thorough, and to READ READ READ.
The answers are there, you just need to calm down and LOOK. Don't try SH*T until you're confident you know what you're doing. (Excuse my language)
I LOVE XDA-dev!!
Very Impressive.
Great !
This is a great forum for ANYONE to learn about their devices and see how much they can push to do the things that the devices can do.
I think right out of the box, these devices are kinda limited in their potential. The great guys here in this site make it better and help these devices achive higher grounds.
I am very glad that you had a great experience. I have been this forum for a little over a year and always had great help and experience.
I'm also glad to see someone actually knows how to READ!!
Even though I've had my Wizard for almost 10 months now, xda was one of the FIRST sites I bookmarked after getting it. Even though I registered right away, I read threads for several weeks before ever posting anything.
I had CID and SIM unlocked and flashed to two of Summiter's ROMs within the first 6 weeks I had my phone. That was all it took to become addicted. If I'm not on here reading every day, I go into "information withdrawal".
I'll never be at the level some of these gurus are at, but I'm learning some of the "how-to's" little by little -- and, expanding my knowledge of how to do things that I wouldn't have DREAMED of doing with this phone a year ago.
I'll admit it -- I'm HOOKED!!
Congrats on picking up the information so quickly. I'll have to echo what's already been said here about a GREAT first post by a NOOB!!
Im glad that some newbie's are able use the info here and in the immortal words of the crystal method "there is hope"
We must all give credit to all those ROM cooks for all there hard work and diligence and to the other members that have made it so simple to understand and learn through there trials and errors.

Sorry, I have to totally dissagree with all the praise you are getting.
How can anyone know that thier new device is not 'going to be what they wanted' in less than a day? You will have no base line to measure changes against.
I believe everyone should be made to use their new device for a month, dead standard! I can't help singgering, laughing and shaking my head in disbelief when I read about people complaining that they have to reset 4-5 times a day, that their device freezes, crashes, conflicts, or things don't work, etc, etc. Then they abuse HTC, MS and anyone else they can think of - some people curse and abuse their device, describing it as crap and shouldn't be sold like this.... then they tell you all the changes and mods they have made, and the rubbish they have installed and.... WHAT DO YOU EXPECT!!!!
My Hermes is dead standard and runs like a dream - constantly impressed by it.
I have no quams about people wanting to mod, develop, experiment, etc. but please use your device in original config for long enough to know if you are making improvements or making a mess.
IMHO anyway.
Welcome!
Since a longer time I'm reading the forum and thanks to you guys I learned a lot about my Wizard. I know now how to unlock and "unsimlock" my phone, how to flash it and many many more.
Before I will ask a question I'm reading and searching a forum to find that what I need, that's way until now I didn't post anything, so I want just to say hello to all members.
People gatherd here are very talented and helpfull people.
Best regards.

If you buy a truck for off-roading and find out the first day that it doesn't have 4 wheel drive, should you continue to drive it for 30 days to see if it will magically appear?
Congrats for researching, mate... I dunno if anyone else feels this way, but there seems to have been an influx of semi-retarded users posting recently saying things like "why won't my Sony Ericsson P990 flash???"... ok it's a bit of an exaggeration, but they're still bloody dum questions!
Like you when I found this site, I spent at least 2 days researching before I even tried to modify anything and everything I searched for came up with appropriate answers... in DEPTH! And the pay-off was quick and painless as a result... my universal now works - full stop. With the O2 ROM, it was a bag of poo compared to what it was made for, and I say that after 8 months or so of usage with original ROM.
I will be pointing resident idiots to this thread too from now on. Many thanks for your intelligence, it's what contributes to this site being as great as it is
Geez. this is the first time I've seen this post. That was like the XDA Developers Hall of Fame at the beginning. Anyway, congrats to the original poster and all who learned the right way. Mods can we re-title this thread "The Perfect Newbie" and make it a sticky to replace some of the outdated ones?
To be or not to be Noob ........
There are loads skulkers like myself that have never bothered to post.
I bow to the superior knowledge of the Windows Mobile gods and keep my trap shut until I have learned / read enough to say something intelligent on the topic.
Most things are clearly labled and easy to find.
Some of the useless post just add clutter and makes it difficult to find the truely useful info.
There will always be impatient PFY's and noob's that can't be bothered to search.
Search + Google is your friend.

I am sorry that you got offfended. Wait a minute, no I'm not. I see that you have edited your post above. Good because it made absolutely no sense the way you first wrote it. It seemed to be something that was written by a 10 year old. Your spelling and grammar are horrible. Just look at the post I quoted. "did you ever had a ...." -
I will rewrite it for you.
"Have you ever bricked your Breeze and then successfully repaired your device. If so, please share your experience and step by step instructions taken to fix your device in this thread to help those less cerebrally gifted like myself to fix our own devices, because we just don't have a clue."
Is this clear for you?
I have taken the liberty to check out your posting behaviour. You seem to have been having problems for quite some time but have not gotten a straight answer and for that I am sorry for you. I cannot help you because:
1. I do not own a Breeze
2. I don't have much experience with flashing custom ROM's and have never Bricked my device, (Because I am really careful and do lots and lots of reading in these forums to learn everything I need to learn before doing anything.)
When I responded to your post, I was only trying to help you by getting you to be more clear with what your problem was and what you wanted out of this thread. It really made absolutely no sense the way you had orriginally written it. With this attitude you have - you might find it difficult to get anyone to help you.
Good bye... Good luck. I hope you get what you are looking for

Have you read this thread - May be helpful. I have not read it fully; however, noticed that you have not posted in it.

If you have any questions about the process described, may I suggest in addition to posting in the thread itself, send a private message to jerpelea as he created this thread and Guide. You will have to try to provide as much information as possible to him / her - What you did? how you did it? etc... What rom you were trying to flash. Answer any questions he asks and don't get frustrated with him / her if it takes time for him / her to figure out what happened to your device. You have to remember that you did this to your device / not anyone else and you are the one with the device in front of you. Be patient - Listen to their advice, follow their instructions - answer their questions - don't give up and start looking for someone else to help you out because you will just annoy people and will have to start all over again explaining your situation. If you want your device fixed then you need to listen up and stop being so aggressive - it puts people off and pushes them away. I know that it is frustrating, but look - your tactics have not been working so far. I have seen in several threads that there were some people trying to help you but you just disappeared from that thread before they could finish. You had failed to answer some peoples questions . Remember, they need to know what is what before giving you direction because the last thing they want to do is rush you into doing something that might actualy permanently brick your device. Also remember that it will not be a quick fix - May take several days / weeks as most people here have lives outside of this forum. USE Private messaging though once you have found someone who will take the time to guide you. If you try to rush it - you might truely end up with a paper weight
There is also a lot of information in the WIKI here. I strongly urge you to read all of this to learn everything there is to learn about your device. It will not only possibly lead to helping you figure out how to solve your problem, but also help you to understand what others are asking you with regards to your device.

sorry for my week english....
despite i didn't post in both, but i tried what is mentioned in these 2 posts, and i didn't succed to fix my imate spjas...
desperate... do i have to throw down my device????
is their a way to fix it, is their for exampl a no vender id RUU or something like i can use it to repair either my bootloader and update any rom i want....
asking for you, and all who has enough experience in building a rom, or whatever to find a way a universal way to repair our devices....
thank you, and thx for all who can help, and post a solution....
I am sorry that I cannot help you, I just don't know about your device or ROM upgrading. You seem to be very desperate and let your emotions get the best of you in your posts. This with the language barrier can make it very difficult. I really hope that someone here who is capable of helping you can be patient enough with you to help you. You have to remember to be patient to with them though or they will just walk away and leave you with a device that doesn't work.
If no one here can help you, what about taking your device in for service. I don't know how long you have had your device for (Warranty) (Upgrade to a new device that works)
Good luck

Hello all I am new to this forum but not computers in general. I would like to install CM9 on my touch pad and I need a lil(lot) of help..lol.. I have never flashed on os before I have just done clean installs on desktops and such and I also have never done a dual boot before. So I guess I basically need a step by step guide to installing CM 9 on my tp..
Welcome. As a member of this forum, you are expected to search and read for yourself; no one will search for you or hold your hand. A very good step by step link is easily found in the dev section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2147284.
:good: thanks. Next problem I am having is I can not get the goo website to open so I can download acmeinstaller...
Isn't there a mirror?
I think I figured it out. thanks again for the help. Also I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2158341
Is this a good tool kit to install android on the tp?
Sorry, never used it.

Reasonable search is expected...but your statement is not completely true. MANY people including myself help noobs all the time. Not everyone is a seasoned searcher in fact i help DEVS who are awesome in development but suck (lol) at using even google properly and it can be tough to find what u want. This is a help and information site ...some wont or dont have time to help what they deem a common sense /noob question. Were all here to help each other and a good starting point is to always remember we were all noobs once have a great day

Helping noobs is not the same as doing their work for them. I help. I point them towards guides that have already been written for their benefit. I step in when they run into problems. But. I don't hold their hands. I don't retype what has already been asked and answered many times. To do so would be to promote filling up these xda developers forums with junk, and keep treating them as noobs. Hopefully if properly guided they will then go from noobs to seasoned searchers and helpers of the next group noobs.

U didnt say any of that.you represented ME and others in your uncouth borderline Rude(just plain unfriendly to a new person on this wonderfully helpful site) comment. Nice helpful people is what makes this place grand. You could have said it i a couth way and you didnt and at the same tim saying it like you represent everyone here. Simply NOT true.if found that this person was lazy and maybe not inept at searching(everyone is different, some Good people just cant do what you deem common sense) then you can nicely put it to them and say hey bro you need to do a little more searching man but it's cool I'll help u out just remember next time or do u need tips on searching because its an art to be good at it . Or don't answer!!! Really? Is it that hard to be nice.or did u not realize you came off so callous? because everyone's done it ,I've done it but once confronted I apologized and was contrite ...what a man does or thats what i was taught. What u stated is somewhat true but not completely and certainly nowhere near the nice way I would say it not even close. Ive hopefully made my point.and seriously i mean it whan i say i wish you well.im jot being facetious.

I think there may be a language barrier here, especially concerning your use of the word "uncouth." I wrote curtly, but I did say welcome, I gave OP a quick explanation of XDA rules, and I gave him a link to a guide. And OP didn't seem to mind; he got a quick and helpful answer fast. Personally, I would rather get right to the helpful part instead of being wordy. And think we simply have a difference of opinion in the way we deliver words (I'm very, maybe overly, to-the-point in real life too). But the meat of what we're both saying here is the same: this is first and foremost a developer site, and though help is given here, members are expected to help themselves as well. Oh, and I'm not a man. I'm a woman.
Quite honestly, I don't appreciate being called callous/rude and being told that I must be contrite just because I don't phrase things like you do. Nice to me is being helpful, not using more words. But I do see where you're coming from. We just have a difference in delivery. And now we've spent more time and words talking about this than I did helping him. So I'm done here now.

It seemed to me that the op was being nice yes and i applauded that in a privet message. Well done :good:. Now the fun begins don't forget to make a backup with cwm. AN APP called Rom Toolbox lite will make it easier if you used jcsullins cwm, just tell the app it's a custom cwm
Do ask a question if you get stuck as there are a lot of helpful people on this forum.
All the best.
Well now I have a problem. Got it to start installing but half way through the install it came up with an error saying that cm something or another was missing and that I needed to download it from hptouchpad.linuxhackers.ru. Tried that and there is no such site. Now I am stuck in usb mode with the 2 lil pings at the top of the screen and I can not get out of it...
I would recommend that you ACMEUninstall everything, make sure you've downloaded and moved all the files from your computer to your TP (including CWM), and try to ACMEInstall again.
Thanks will try that..
The guide I linked before has instructions for ACMEUninstaller. Another note: I would strongly advise that you ask questions on the forums instead of by PM. Generally, having multiple pairs of eyes on a question is better than having just one.
Thanks again man your a life saver... :good:

Hi everyone, I'm a longtime lurker and user of this site and thought I should go ahead and join. I have learned everything I know about unlocking phones and changing or replacing roms from this forum, though I would still be considered a beginner compared to most of you. I have done a few things following the instructions posted for others here. I'm a long time computer, laptop, tablet and phone tech, and electronic engineer and very interested in expanding my knowledge on phones, especially android. And I have come to hate AT&T from what I've read about their bootlockers. I'll never get another AT&T model phone again.
