Unable to install other ROM after custom from in TWRP - Redmi 9 / Poco M2 Questions & Answers

I recently installed Project Elixer custom rom on my Poco M2 device, everything worked fine. However, calls and sms are not working, I tried a lot of things but no good. So, I decided to go for other custom rom like PixelPlusUI, but when I went to twrp and tried to install it, shows me error -> ERROR 1: unable to extract rom.zip, I tried other roms and versions too. but same issue, so I guess this is something wrong with my system instead of roms. I am really stuck without sms and calls pls help me

For the sms and calls problem...
Did you make an IMEI Backup? Because is the most common way of lossing mobile services, if you did make a backup, just restore it in TWRP, if not, you're screwed, is impossible to restore the IMEI completely without any backup.

Hey there, thanks for helping me.
I want to give you an update.
What happened is that I took the backup when my phone was working fine, however my pc got resetted and I lost that eventually.
After reading your post I was totally scared that I nuked the phone.
And the info was correct, w/o backup, if IMEI is gone we are screwed.
However, a friend of mine helped me and told that the issue is not with IMEI, so I somehow managed to boot back into original rom.
Thanks a lot

Nandroid between phones?

Hey all, say I really like someone else's phone setup. Can I do a nandroid of their phone, copy it over to mine and restore (and then, obviously, delete their gmail login and replace it with mine), or is there some reason that wouldn't work?

If I see this question on more time :|
Yes you can.
Copying a nandroid to another device from my phone didnt work for me. Just got stuck in a boot loop. Had to pull the battery and reinstall my girlfriends original nandroid. Not sure if i did something wrong

IMEI loss after flashing to CM11

Hello everyone,
i flashed CM10.2 from the FreeXperia Project on my Z1 and it worked fine,
but the camera was very blurry and didn't take pictures at all.
So i decided to flash CM11 (also from FXP), the camera worked damn fine,
but now the IMEI is set to 0 (and IMEISV to 26, if thats a matter).
Without the IMEI my provider is blocking my access to UMTS and mobile
connection, so the phone is pretty much useless.
So my question is - is there a way to set the IMEI or flash it in from previous backups?
Thanks in advance
Ps: Sorry, forgot to mark it as a question and can't do it from editing.
Ok, i got the settings back by doing a full wipe and reflashing the stock rom.
Now i try to find a tool, that makes a backup of my efs-partition and is able
to restore it on cm11, if the IMEI is getting killed again.
The only tools i find for this are for other phones (though not safe for z1) or
not from reliable sources. Does somebody know a tool like that?
Thanks in advance

I heard not heard of such a tool for the Z1. I remember reading about IMEI 0 some time ago, but don't remember many details. Search more, it's been mentioned before. You may have to go back to a stock FTF to fix it.

Using my nandroid backup on my wife's phone?

Me and my wife use the exact same model phone and both are rooted. Hers has had a few issues that have made it unusable at times. Mine works as it should. Question is, can I use my backup on her phone to restore a 'good known working' system? and then just modify it for her stuff. I'm assuming she would keep her phone number and all that (I get a little foggy when it comes to all imei/sim stuff).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
yes you can, but only do NOT restore EFS and is all good.
Make a nandroid backup first.

Thanks for the info.

Phone has no LTE, yet still has imei, 3g data after flashing rom.

I have a G5S plus (xt1806) on sprint. Every rom I flash results in me not having LTE, and 3G cuts in and out unreliably. I have checked and my imei is still there. I have flashed the modems, and I have restored my efs backup to no avail. This has happened on every rom, no matter if I clean flash, dirty flash, I end up with the same result. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I had a similar issue on Verizon. When I got the phone I never inserted my new sim card & connected to the network before I unlocked the bl, flashed TWRP, custom ROM, etc. Every ROM I flashed had the same issue as you describe in your post.
Solution: I backed everything up to a pc & fastboot flashed back to stock & started over. Everything has been fine ever since.
***Keep that efs backup you made too - just in case you lose IMEI on your return to stock; efs restore should fix it.

Yea, I've tried reverting back to stock. I get back my service after restoring efs partition, but whenever I do it again, service is broken. I am at a loss.

Fwiw - I worked with another Sprint user a while back who could only get reliable service with the original firmware - that which came with the phone when purchased. Fortunately he had a bu of that and it was the only thing that worked. There is a thread about checking/fixing permissions on your persist partition that may help. Check it out - ya never know.

I really dislike how sprint deals with unlocked phones, they never play nice, I have had carrier specific issues with them in the past. If it wasn't for my grandfathered truly unlimited plan I would switch in a heartbeat.
And yea, I'll be sure to check that thread out, thanks!

I had the same problem. I made a thread about it and somebody gave the solution. See if it works for you. https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g5s-plus/help/4g-to-t3829195

I had initially had this in my previous reply - Sprint has always been special - but I deleted it, should have left it in. I've heard many bad stories from Sprint users in the past, going back years. Just glad I always stayed away from them (they have no coverage in my neck of the woods anyway).
Good luck!
PS - the link in the above post has the instructions to set correct permissions on affected files in persist partition - they came from the thread I mentioned.

Since you're using TWRP then that's the best. Make a backup of all partitions. If there is a problem while restoring try to restore one by one, maybe some cannot be restored, can't say nothing here. But a nandroid TWRP backup is the way to go, yes.

Hey, I backed up the file in steps, cause I did not had a big SD card at hand. The problem I am facing is I cannot backup system image. How can I backup that file? Is it important? Btw all back ups are done using twrp and I just realised that I could have just backed everything up in the phone storage and then copied it all as one file on to my laptop.

I haven't had any experience with TWRP or such things on phones newer than the Galaxy S5. I don't see a point to root or tinker with my Note 9 as it's perfect stock so can't really test if i can backup the system image myself. All things are important in a backup, is it grayed out or something? I'd always do a full 1 backup though, not in parts. Seems easier to restore later.
