Hi,
I've recently moved from a Galaxy S21 to the Pixel 7.
Ever since, on my new Pixel, incoming calls (it might be for specific callers, still unsure) will not show their names, only the numbers!
Later on, on the recent calls list, their names will appear perfectly.
When the incoming call is just a popup over another app, or through notifications, it would actually show the name.
My headphones would even say the name of the caller with the incoming call.
But the phone app would only show a number.
Attaching screenshots.
I've tried already to clear both cache & data of the phone app.
Any suggestions are welcome!
In your contacts (address book app) are the numbers exactly the same as what is shown in the call log? No + or ( ) ?
Are you using the Google contacts app?
That's my only thought.
Hmm, thanks, I usually have people saved with their country code, and this shows just the local number..
I've tried adding now for one of them also the number without the country code, and funny enough even the popup now doesn't show their name :sss
I have the google contact app, though I'm not sure that's what's used by default on the pixel.
I've tried now to merge some 500 contacts through the google contacts app, it's said it'll take some while before it's reflected on my phone, will check again later if that's made any difference.
i had a similar issue when receiving sms messages and calls. i disabled the chat feature in the messaging app which solved the problem for me.

Does the phone app have permissions for Contacts? Did you try stopping the phone app, clearing the storage, and then reopen it?

I installed OCLF and LauncherPro and now my Call Log in the dialer is showing SMS messages instead of just Calls. As I get a ton of text messages, my call log is getting really long and messy.
Anyone know how I can resolve this? I clicked on Settings while in Call Log but it won't allow me to restrict it to calls only. The only options offered is:
View by:
All logs
missed calls
dialled calls
received calls
sent messages
received messages
bump..
this is real annoying as the call log becomes super long.
bump..
would really love a solution to this.May be a log cleaner that deletes all the text logs ?
You mean in Contacts History?
Press Menu, select 'View By'. Deselect 'Message' and press 'Done'.
And messages do not appear in the history.

As stated in the original post, the call log only has the options to view by one of the following selections (not multiple selections): All logs, Missed calls, Received calls, Dialed calls, Received messages, and Sent messages.
If we could simply "uncheck" the 2 message options, this thread would not exist. We can only select one selection of the above choices. Further example: selecting missed calls would leave out received calls, dialed calls, received messages, and sent messages.
We would like something that only shows missed, received, and dialed calls (no sms).
So far, only the froyo builds are this way for the vibrant ROMs (except teamwhiskey's - i've tried macnut and axura which both suffer from this problem).
Is there a fix for this yet? I can't believe Google released Froyo with this dumb problem! There is no way to exclude SMS from the call log! My call log goes on for miles!
Can one of you XDA geniuses come up with a fix for us?
Ohh I hate this too. Its so annoying.
This is driving me crazy! Does anyone know if there is a replacement Call Log app that we can install in its place?
This is very annoying and for that fact I went back to ka5, does anyone have a way to replace the dialer app? I tried replacing the phone app but it gave me issues with connecting to the network.

For those who are rooted, I have bionix v rom installed and flashed the AOSP MMS app provided by Team Whiskey and this log annoyance is gone.

I may not answer your question about changing the 'call log' settings but this is what i do.
1. Go to 'contacts'
2. 'history' tab
3. Press the menu button
4. Then go to 'view by'
From there, there is a check list where you can select what kind of logs you want to see.
Couple of more steps to see the call history, but nonetheless it gives.you what you want.

Well the History app seems to work. But it brings up another question: why in the world are there TWO different call log apps in the native dialer? The "Logs" app doesn't resolve the situation, but to access the other call log app, you have to open the dialer, click on Contacts, then the History tab.
Maybe Darky can offer a custom fix in 9.3?

Ditto! This is driving me nuts! I am rooted and ready to add or delete whatever it takes to fix this. Would somehow downgrading from 2.2 dialer to the 2.1 api work?
try go contacts from the market, it provides a dialer aswell and looks much better than stock with all stock features and only calls in the log.

I posted a workaround for this in another thread which has somehow disappeared.
There are TWO call logs in the native dialer application. The first you get by clicking on Phone/Logs. This one is useless.
The second you get by clicking Phone/Contacts/History. Then click on the Settings button and create your filters. This one has all the features you need.
Would it be possible to forward text messages to the gtab from my phone. Also would like to respond with my grab. Not sure how this would be done but it would be cool. Could be done through Bluetooth or just a good internet connection.

You load the Google voice app from the market. You need to setup a Google voice account also. You enter the phone numbers you want to associate with it. It will also give you a Google phone number. Then you setup Google voice on your device and when it asks for the phone number use one that is associated with your google voice account. People use the google voice phone number to send you texts. And when you send them they show on peoples devices as coming from your Google number. I just had my daughters add my Google number to my contact info in there phones. The last part in the setup about voicemail you can just skip. Only going to send texts from your tablet..
It appears as a big inbox. You get notifications in the top bar when someone sends you something. You can also reply from Gmail. I have an SMS folder I setup in Gmail that I can reply from also.
Sorry to revive an old thread but is there any way to forward incoming sms messages from your cell number (not GV number) to your GV account so you can read them on the Gtab? I don't want all my contacts to have to change the number they send texts to for me. I tried to set it up but none of the sms messages were forwarded to my GV account. I think they are probably in an infinite loop in cyberspace!

I saw that last week but also saw my carrier will charge an ETF if I port my number over to GV. I'm not going to pay $200 just to read my text messages on my Gtab. It was just more of a convenience question as the screen is larger.
What I did and it worked for a couple of hours was create another GMail Account and downloaded an app from the market that forwarded my SMS messages to the Gmail account. It worked until Android killed it. I restarted the app and then I didn't receive any more text messages on my phone or in the Gmail account. I uninstalled the app, restarted the phone, and about 30 SMS messages all came through at once.
In theory this works if you can find a decent SMS forwarding app that can run in the background without being zapped and doesn't screw up your messaging app. I only tried one but may try others tomorrow.
may want to look for "sms forwarder" in the android market. not sure if that does what you want but it sounds like it does.

Yeah, that's the exact one I used and it was hit or miss. I haven't tried any of the paid apps to see if I get better results.
I have an annoying issue with my phone and don't know if it can be remedied or not. I am sure that others may have the same issue. If I miss a phone call and the person leaves a voicemail I get four different app notifications. The icons in the notification bar include: missed call icon, email icon with possible transcript of voicemail, text message with possible transcript of voicemail and finally, Google voice icon with transcript and voice recording. I use Handcent for texting, gmail for emails and Google voice for voicemails. I would like to keep Google voice as I like the transcript and voice recording available in one spot. Is there a way to selectively not receive notices for phone calls from specific apps?

i wont be of too much help here, but i can suggest turning notifications off for such things as a bootleg temp fix until you figure it out.
ive never used handscent so that may be it, or more likely an app for transcripting voicemails as that seems to be the common factor here.
Note 4 rooted, with newest update as well, running Nova. Using the default SMS Messaging app
4 issues I have been having.
1.) When I get SMS, the notifications in the dropdown won't go away.. even when I am in that person's SMS chat.. I have to swipe it away. This happens randomly.
2.) When I am chatting with someone on SMS and in the dialog screen, the phone does not vibrate or have a sound alert that lets me know they replied. I have put down the phone a few times not realizing that a reply had been sent, but my eyes were not on the screen to be alerted to it. If the screen is off or in another app, then I get sound and vibrate alerts.
3.) When I get a few new SMS backlogged, instead of showing me the names of my contacts texting me, it shows me their phone # and messages in the dropdown.
4.) This is random.. I got a call from my gf this afternoon, and before it pulled up my contact info for her (from my gmail contacts list), it pulled up her full name like a caller ID from back in the day.. Her full name is not in my gmail and her linked email is a hotmail address(but that doesnt have her full name either). Why did this happen and how can I have it for other people that arent contacts in my phone book?
The first 3 items are probably bugs in the Messaging app.. I think I remember #4 being offered by T-Mobile as a paid extra.. but I am definitely not paying for it.
I'm just having issues getting Gmail notifications to come through. Even when enabling notification through label settings.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
#4 is probably the Tmobile NameID app. if i recall, there was a notification on my phone after the first bootup about a free trial or something. it displays caller ID for all numbers, supposedly, even for "unknowns" and such. since i disabled all the tmobile bloat ive not seen it come up. if you turn off the program in application manager it should stop working.
Hi,
Not sure if this is a Pixel or Android issue. I'm using the Pixel 5 and my company has Intune installed work profile. I can search my work contacts from the personal contact app for calls and messenger. When calls come in I have two issues, most of the time Caller ID will display the phone number but not the callers name. It seems like out of 10 calls, I may get one or two with the name displayed from my work contacts. The other issue that happens is I'll hear the phone ring but I don't get the notification so I can answer the call or see whos calling until the second or third ring.
Phone software is all stock and up to date. Google launcher, Google contacts and phone app, Google Messenger, etc. Tried restarting the phone, no luck. Would like to know if this is a common problem or an issue with my phone.
Work profile using Intune and MS Office 365 apps. Thanks.
