I need some help with GIMP. I have a landscape launcher png that I want to rotate but every time I rotate it the gray and black checkerd background stays up and down and I only see a little bit of the picture.
create a new image with the dimensions flipped and then move it
thanks for the reply. I'm actually not gonna do this anymore. I put the portrait launcher on my phone and it looks like poop so I have no reason to mod the landscape.
mods you can close this if you would like

After you rotate it using Layer > Transform > Rotate, you have to adjust the canvas to fit the layer with Image > Fit Canvas To Layers.
I have been using GIMP for years and am willing to help you if needed.
or for future reference, just go to image>transform>rotate and it will rotate the whole image and not just the layer
I've created a skin for MortPlayer (Version 3.31 b76 onwards) that is inspired by the iPhone but deals with the small amount of screen space available on QVGA devices.
I started with ruebyi's S2P4 skin, so credit to him for his original skin.
Some of ruebyi's original graphics remain (thanks again to ruebyi - hope you don't mind), but the whole skin has been re-written to provide more dynamic interface features, such as:
Scrubber bar (tap track info at top to toggle on/off)
Full album cover view using glass controls (tap just above << || >> controls to toggle)
Play list editing (tap playlist name to edit, save or save as)
Better spacing of lists for improved finger control
The skin is implemented using 3 skin files (.MPS) the one to select from MortPlayer choose skin options is the TouchPlayer.mps, ignore the other two (TouchPlayer-part2.mps and TouchPlayer-part3.mps) these are used internally for the play list screens.
Install as normal by copying the .MPS and skin directory to the MortPlayer directory - note that it can't be operated in an .MPZ because it needs to load the part2 and part3 skins files and this doesn't work when in an .MPZ.
Some helpful hints for using the skin:
Tap the track/album info at the top to to show/hide the scrubber bar.
Tap just above the << || >> controls at the bottom to toggle between normal and transparent matte glass contrlols (better for full view of album covers)
Tap the playlist name to edit the playlist
Change the next track to currently selected track by tapping the next track on scrubber bar.
Slide left/right on cover to change prev/next track - good when in car.
Slide up/down on cover to change prev/next album/playlist.
Tap battery to exit/quit
Tap "Alarm off" at top left to set an alarm.
Tap'n'hold cover to access the MortPlayer menu
Few final notes:
it's for QVGA only, for larger resolutions devices the UI space issues are not a problem, hence the glass controls etc are not really required.
an update for WQVGA would be possible to better optimize for the taller screen, but I don't have a device WQVGA to do it with. Having said that the .MPS files just need playing with to move things up/down, anyone want to try?
its portrait only, because I never use landscape. It would be a lot of work to create a landscape view and very difficult to make a good looking full screen cover view...
Some improvements I plan:
I might change the [Playlist] button to be the same one used in the other screens, rather than a text button.
I'd like buttons for [Save] and [Save as] that are graphic and smaller, but can';t think what to use. I tried a floppy disk and didn't like it (who uses floppies anymore anyway?) amd then how to do save as...
I want to improve the alarm screen to be finger friendly (especially when you first wake up) - so big snooze, stop and cancel buttons I think, maybe in version 2...
For those of you who like crisp screenshots without JPG artifacts, see attached ZIP file
Please feel free to comment, criticise, suggest improvements, changes or any requests.
Enjoy!
Nice skin for good program(better, than these bs apps served on xdadev, for sure).
This is really a nice skin work for Mortplayer.
Thanks to you, my 2.5 years old Polaris/ Cruise is now bright and shine again.
Small thing, it crashes when the cover.jpg is too large. But I don't try to figure out is it from the skin or Mortplayer itself. Simply avoid this in the future.
Anyone interested in a WVGA version?
I've just upgraded from Tytn II to HD2. I'm not finding many WVGA skins out there and am contemplating creating a version of my TouchPlayer MortPlayer skin for WVGA.
Only problem is finding time, but during the xmas break I might have some spare time.
Would anyone else like this skin converted to WVGA? Anyone got some suggestions on layout since the HD2/WVGA screen is taller there won't be any need for buttons overlapping the cover.
Given the effort involved I'm tempted to create a totally new skin that will fit in with HTC Sense better but based on this skins design... but then again I like the simplicity of the i-phone layout...

Yea cool skin and friendly! I had thought that the cover image was too big also, so i resized it for HTC Touch and others screens
it's raccomandable to use cover images 165x165 px
default skin cache
I've installed the latest Beta MortPlayer v3.31 b77 and found a great iPhone skin (found here). After selecting this skin, Mortplayer asks if you want to cache the current default skin for faster startup, to which I replied 'Yes'.
I've since made a change to one of the graphics within the .mpz file but MortPlayer appears to be continuing to use the cached version. I've tried selecting other skins then selecting this skin again in hopes it would reload the .mpz but with no success.
Does anyone know where this cache is located or how I can force MortPlayer to re-cache the updated skin?
Thanks in advance

I did eventually create a WVGA iphone skin for mortplayer and have been using for the last 18 months. I'm still using the WM6 and mortplayer, not sure if anyone else is though. Does anyone want a copy?

Okay, I have successfully made Rosie do 5x5 and 4x5.
5x5 is what I wanted, but then every single widget would have to be edited to look right. - No.
4x5 lets the 4 column widgets work, and adds an extra row of icons to every screen. Only problem is, since each square of screen space is reduced to add the extra row, the last few lines of a widget are lost.
See attached 4x5 shot.
I know if I can remove some padding around the workspace screen, each cell would grow a little. I just can't find where to do it, and my fingers are getting numb from building and pushing the apk.
Does anybody know what padding settings I need to reduce to allow icon/widget cells to grow?
D
I done the same thing with the incredible when I had it.
There is a way to accomplish this but you are still going to have to edit the individual widgets to fit in the smaller space.
It's been a while but it's a pretty simple edit.
The main widgets that need to be changed are the clock, the calendar, and the people widget.

Yeah, I've been down that road. I'm trying to avoid it though.
If I can recover enough space by removing the padding I shouldn't have to.
Just something I'll have to play with till I get it right I guess.
Thanks though!

This made me realize my mind has trouble interpreting grids phrased as [column]x[row]. I'm hard wired for row first, lol.
Does this look OK in landscape with 5 rows. This is where the problems usually begin for me wanting to use 5 rows.
If it's possible to cut that padding down to a bare minimum, it should fix the widget issue, at least a little bit.
You might be familiar with Grid OS, FusionGarages latest idea that didn't make the market. While that's a more complicated version of the idea, I'd like to see a theme or launcher capable of displaying icons in a perfect grid of squares without any space between the icons. To compensate for inconsistent resolutions, the theme/launcher would need to simply calculate the available space, with or without an outside margin.
The attachment displays a quick concept of this idea. The blueish background represents the wallpaper, the white and black squares represent icons. These icons may be displayed in a variety of ways - glass themed, miui themed, colors based on average color of default icon with the default icon on top (similar to miui), etcetera, but the main feature is the lack of padding between the icons. A pure grid with dimensionless gridlines. I realize an extra row and column could have been added, but nonetheless, it's just a mockup.
There's also the lack of a dock - this may be added somewhere, but not on an edge as that would distort the grid. It needs to be connected seamless and paddingless to the pure grid, with or without an empty row inbetween the dock and the other icons. In the mockup, it may simply be the lowest row of icons, for example. However, a dock would distract from the solidness of the grid as it would only be useful with multiple homescreens, whereas I reckon the theme would work best if the grid is all there is - no distracting slides to different homescreens, overscrolling the necessary margin to the screen edges and distoring the grid on these sides to compensate for resolution, when moving to the new set of icons on a different homescreen. Instead, scrolling (perhaps just vertically), like on Grid OS, could do. In that case, a margin to compensate for screen edges is only optional as well.
Is there such a launcher or similar theme already? Is it something to hope for, for a fellow developer to build upon this idea?
Would really love to see this. Especially since it's different.
Have you tried sslauncher in the play store yet?

Hey all. I've been trying to upsample these 64x64 zoom buttons from a 2.2 ROM I used way back when and I lose transparency when I try to upsample them. 64x64 is just too small for the Nexus 4, and when I upsample through Irfanview, I either get buttons that are too transparent or not transparent enough.
Can anyone upsample them to 128x128? I posted this in the Nexus 4 subforum and no one has replied

Hey guys. I've used Irfanview to resize the attached PNGs (they are zoom buttons, to be placed in framework-res.apk) but I haven't been able to resize them without messing up the transparency. Technically, I'm upsampling them, which seems to be ok. My only problem is that I don't know how to change the settings such that I can keep the transparency base, but have the "-" and "+" opaque. It ends up being completely transparent and impossible to see on a bright background.
Could anyone upsample them for me? They are 64x64 and it'd be nice to have 128x128. Also, could you provide me some details on what settings you used to save them?

The png images are attached to the above post. Just go to that thread and you'll see them on the OP.
Well, Irfanview is a bit foreign to me, but I used pixlr and it was a very simple conversion. I attached the pngs if anyone wants to use them in their own ROMs.
