Question januar update / rooted - Google Pixel 7

Guys, do you already have the Januar update installed?
Is everything OK? I read somewhere that someone had a problem with applications crashing.
I would like to update via pixelflasher.
Thank you.

I updated with PixelFlasher, and as I posted above, everything is working just fine. I didn't disable any modules or anything, just used PF to patch and flash the update.

Yes. In fact I confused your post as being in the AOSPMods thread. (Thus my reference to a non-existent "post above", lol) The XDA mobile app is not very clear at times.

this sounds incredibly brave. Every guide I've ever read warns to turn off modules. Did you know ahead of time it might work or did you forget to turn them off? I'm tempted to try now.

I'm used to recovering from boot loops and whatnot, so I haven't really given it a second thought.
FYI, I'm currently running:
AOSPMods
DTSX UItra ZTE A2020G Pro (audio fx mod)
Shamiko
Universal safetynet fix
Zygist - LSPosed
I hope that info is helpful.

does gpay with nfc payments and banking apps work with that?
regards

Gpay works fine for paying in apps like Dunkin, etc. but I have not tried NFC. I use my watch for that. My banking apps all work well too. Only Chase complains about root and won't let me use fingerprint for sign in, which is typical for their app without jumping through a bunch of hoops.

Where did you find this audio mod and which one works with the P7

I came across the module when Googling for alternatives to V4A.
The project is here on Github: https://github.com/reiryuki/DTSX-Ultra-ZTE-A2020G-Pro-Magisk-Module
Since Viper4Android doesn't work with my P7 due to unsupported CPU architecture, I use this one instead. It works better than many I've tried. I mostly use it for the built-in compression which is on par with V4A. It's a massive help to smooth out the volume levels in podcasts while I'm out running.

This version of V4A works on the Pixel 7 series. Not all options are available presently so it might not have what you want, but they are working on bringing full functionality.

Thanks for the link! I checked it out, but the Playback gain control and FET Compressor that I was looking for are not operational yet. Still, there is a lot of good functionality there and progress is coming along nicely.
I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the project as more features are added.

No problem. Also, AML v.4.2 was released yesterday to support V4A-RE so you can now use other audio mods (I've only tested JamesDSP) with it.

By coincidence, I noticed that update to AML this morning. Looking at the changelog, I saw the V4A-RE support but didn't even realize what it was until you brought it to my attention, lol. Perhaps I'll re-enable AML and run it alongside DTSX for a while.
Thanks again.

Music playback controls using volume rocker - doable?

I know that custom ROMs do this easy as pie, especially CM-based ROMs which tend to still be my favorite ones overall, but since the Active has a locked bootloader and apparently not enough serious interest so far to possibly ever get such a thing, does anyone have any idea of how to add such functionality to the stock AT&T ROM (SGH-i537 is my device, of course)?
I know PowerAMP claims to have such capability but I swear that I've tried that app on several devices and it's never worked even when I enable the option in the settings of the app so I'm not even going to try anymore with that one.
My GS4A is carrier unlocked and rooted as well (geohot's method) so I'm not sure if I need to install some root-required app to patch something, or just install a patch of some kind or whatever. If it's a kernel based thing then obviously I'm out of luck there, but if there's some way to enable that aspect it would be a great thing.
And yes I know about the torch functionality with a long press of Volume Up, but I don't have any real use for that so being able to control the music playback (Next/Previous with long presses) would be awesome.
If anybody has any info, I'd be grateful to hear it.
You need to install the Xposed framework and Wanam Xposed. There are a ton of options to tweak Touchwiz in addition to enabling volume rocker support for music apps. I use it and it works perfectly.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44067239
Also check out the Wanam module. I use both this and Nottach.

OUTSTANDING!!! Thanks for the info, will get on it when I get some free time today for tinkerin' around.
EDIT:
Yep, it works exactly as noted, so thanks again. Funny though, it doesn't work for the native music app on GS4A (presumably a mod of the stock Android music player since it appears to be a bit modded, I don't know for sure). Works with Play Music which is fine, I still keep my tunes local on the microSD card anyway, no sense wasting bandwidth for nothing.

What would you want in a Mofo-ready img?

I've been working on my own customized Droid Turbo 5.1 img and right now, it's just about the same as Computerfreek's (SuperSU v. 2.49 beta, xposed romracer v.71, latest version of stericson's busybox, latest pon-3 build), minus his battery/signal/whatever he added to build.prop optimizations. Also, the HDR bug is completely fixed (although I hear that it's fixed in his latest build as well). I don't really know where to go from here. What are some custom ROM features that you would like to see baked in? If I can make something that is significantly different than CF's, I'll gladly release it to everyone.
firstEncounter also has a stock rooted image that can be installed with extras including xposed, busybox, adblock, tethering, . I personally don't need much more than that unless you want to get rid of a bunch of stock apps. I disable the amazon apps, most of the verizon apps, along with nfl, slacker, audible, imdb... Hopefully we get a bootloader unlock soon

FirstEncounter's image has the HDR bug though. Also, CF's image has tethering enabled. Tethering is pretty easy to add. I have no use for it myself, but if I ever go public, it will be in there. As for adblock, I'm pretty sure CF has that too. And yes, I plan on heavily debloating it. If the phone can live without it, it will be gone.
If the rumors are correct, we will have a bootloader unlock in the near future, so this all might be a moot point. Until it is though, it's a fun hobby.
Haven't had any issues with the camera on FirstEncounter image but with the CF mine locked up after the first picture until I turned off HDR. My battery life is also worse on the CF image, guess his tweaks aren't in line with my usage. Either way if you make something for yourself I'm sure a few ppl will give it a try. Not many options for us old root junkies itching to get their next fix [emoji3]

Really? I tried flashing FirstEncounter's a few weeks ago and I got the HDR bug. Did you apply the patch or no?
In that case, maybe I will upload my image.
No issues with just the V2 and today I flashed the V2 + extras he bundled as an image.

Interesting. Have you tried taking a picture with HDR on using the V2 + extras rom? If my theory about why the HDR bug happens is correct, that shouldn't work.
EDIT: Nevermind. He updated the images yesterday. He probably fixed the problem.
Yeah my phone camera usually stays on auto but I switched to HDR just to test and no lock up

Honestly, my battery life isn't that great. I'd love to try your image, op. The only thing I want is a black and red theme, but that is not an easy feat. I use nova/nova prime, so at least my launcher is themed. I just want all of the white backgrounds to be black. Well, and text to be red. Reasons I can't wait to have BL unlock. The Sunshine team says they are working on BL unlock. Time will tell.
dp. edit. something. lol. I have run this image for the last 24 hours. battery life seems equal to the tweaked/modded version, which I find odd. Signal reception has been better. overall, the img runs great. no glitches, freezes. literally zero issues. I don't use cerberus, but I used that version. excellent work at any rate, man. thank you!!! I will probably go back to the other one's new version, but I am tempted to just run this. Again, excellent work. Much appreciated.

referencing this article about the upcoming sony z5 I was wondering if kicking down our resolution a notch may improve performance? that and an upgraded audio experience is all I ask for in a rom. I love VIPER but even at it's best it's fairly buggy.
it wont improve performance to rock 1080p but it will make battery life insane afaik.

I've tried almost 4/5 different pie's rom, included this one and i've noticed random crashes for facebook, messenger, chrome, etc. I think it's a problem of kernel (same for all the roms i've installed and tried) but nothing else. After a reboot apps works normal but, sometimes, a stop occurs.
Edit: question... have you installed gapps? Maybe a dumb question but...
Very good.

Tried several pie rom for Redmi 4 prime, same issue:
"Cast/Miracast" cannot be used, when connecting to a wireless display adapter, screen will turn black and desktop will FC/crash, looks like a soft reboot. Same adapter can be connected correctly with no issue under 3rd party 8.0 rom (e.g. Lineage15.1 https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hGQoixLYwJZWNx0pcPVF-DlKi11Wb-_U)
Can anyone test it on this rom? Much apprecipated.
Why have two cameras?
And detected one bug. When unlock with fingerprint automatically locked again and have to unlock again and unlock normal

Yup, a little boring. For now only thing i can say is that after an install of new appz a reboot will solve the problem. For old appz too, i guess...sometime i see 2 or 3 crashes and i can't launch any app. So reboot is the way for the moment.

For the camera, you could uninstall it using Titanium Backup or just browse to the directory and remov it
For the automatically locked bug, i'm having same issues but atleast it happen only when unlocking using fingerprint

Google Recorder app works?

Hey guys,
I'm thinking of getting Poco X3 however I feel in love with Google Recorder app on my Pixel 2 and as a student, it's hard to live without all the audio AI transcription magic. I know previously Google Recorder transcript option didn't work on MIUI 11 devices. Does it work with Poco's MIUI 12?
Much appreciated if somebody can confirm it.
Best regards,
I'm on MIUI global 12.0.2
Not supported in PlayStore, tried from ApkMirror and the unofficial one from AndroidFileHost both found here:

And they both crash

Thanks @bacitoto. Good to know. Have you tried the newest version of the apk? I've seen that some older, unofficial versions are are more likely to work on non-Pixel devices such as version 0.5.257343194 (gosh, what a version number).

I'll try and find a working version, because this is actually a really cool app/feature. If not we'll need to wait for custom roms
Yeah, it's magically the way it works. I mean, anything that you listen to: complicated lecture, zoom meeting at work etc becomes instantly transcribed and searchable. This app is pure gold. Especially now with the endless Zoom calls. Instead of having to take notes and later reviewing recordings u really can get all the info u want right away. The app works very well even with people speaking with heavy accents etc
This article explains the issue with MIUI:
"Android software without significant modifications to the TextView component in the Android framework. It seems that the Google Recorder app fails to work properly on certain devices because those devices are running software with modifications to TextView."

Is there any way to disable full screen keyboard in landscape?

Hi. I use a tablet permanently in landscape mode. But in many apps when keyboard pop up, it uses all the screen. In many cases you don't even see what you typing regardless the all screen view.. I really don't understand why they made it this way. I remember in past there was an xposed plugin to fix this. Can't be done something with magisk? I think it is just to much to install xposed only for this. Is there any way to use xposed only for this, without making the system slower?
Thanks,

It's so so annoying, I fully agree! Unfortuately I don't know other ways to do that, but you caught my attention with this Xposed module... Do you remember its name? If it's old, it probably won't work on newer Androids, but maybe worth a shot since I use Xposed

Actually I did a quick research and found out that this module is present in Play Store. And moreover, it's still working on Android 11! Thank you so much for the hint!
As for Xposed, these days we have much more device-friendly Xposed solution named LSPosed. It allows to hook only the apps that are necessary for a module to work. I really recommend it for you if you won't find any other solution. Also I use many other useful modules, if you are rooted and familiar with Xposed to some extent, it's a great field to explore

Oh, I have this module installed too and didnt know it has this feature! By the way, LSPosed doesnt have the official thread on XDA (the one existing is unofficial, created by a regular user to discuss about it), but they have official Telegram chat and channel, easy to find
Well i installed it, it looks promising. But for full screen keyboard fix, it doesn't looks like app settings reborn sstting is working.. Most other settings work, so it looks like, some do, some doesn't.. Perhaps i must find an xposed plugin especially for this if it still works..
I'll post if i have a solution.
Edit, it works after all. I set to not display keyboard in full screen, to the app i wanted + system ui + SwiftKey keyboard.. And reboot. Something of all this did the trick..
