yeah you read the title right, am not looking for how to cast "to" GTV with chromecast rather i am looking for a way to cast my GTV screen to another chromecast enabled device.
One of the reason to buy chromecast with GTV was an "implict" (though seems wrong) expectation that i would have google home from playstore and be able to cast screen from my GTV with chromecast to other chromecast enabled devices in household.
there is no google home in chromecast playstore (says not compatible), and i downloaded latest APK for google home and it runs and i can see all devices within home including chromecast enabled devices but all devices (including connect devices like lights/switches all are shown offfline except google nest thermostat).
I can guess some of you might ask why i want to cast, i use STBEMU to watch IPTV sub that is mac bound....and instead of replicating MAC on another device i was hoping to cast from the (master) gTV with chromecast. My cheap chinese/aliexpress S912 and 905x box can do such a thing albeit they crash every now and then when casting but gtv doesn't even gives me that option to cast
any pointers appreciated ....thanks

I missed the part where you actually tried to sideload a screen mirroring app on CCwGTV to see if you hit paydirt.

considering it runs Android / exposes play store...so its no different than mibox or a phone where tv is screen. In light of same i implicitly assumed i can run google home. (as i tried to state in original post, my android boxes can do that...albeit not very stable).
this ruined all my plans to run stmemu on one device and cast when i want to watch on other tv instead of buying multiple susbcription for my IPTV service. My second implicit assumption was i would find a solution on xda....never in last few years was a case that i wanted to do something with my android devices and XDA didnt had an answer

CCast is capable of mirroring but it does not use Miracast to do so and currently Google has not supported the feature yet.
We KNOW it is capable of doing it as it does it on the PC side in the Googlecast Ext for chrome.
I do expect they will support it in the future and if not them then some 3rd Party Dev will make it and Google will hopefully white list it.
Mirroring has some concerns over Privacy and I'm sure Google doesn't want to allow an unsecure implementation that could get the bad rep of being a privacy problem and send the concept into the scrap heap.

LOL it's hard enough to get people to read and search for previous posts that have solved their problem here... you expect them to start using Google too?
Just FYI to everyone....we KNOW the CCast can do Mirroring as the GoogleCast Ext for chrome does this already on the PC. Unfortunately the holdup on seeing this on the Android side is not the Chromecast but Chrome itself!
The Mobile versions of Chrome do not at this point support Chrome Extensions which means you can't run the Googlecast extension at this time.
If you have a PC click on the Googlecast icon, Look in the upper right hand corner of the menu it presents click on the little down arrow, and see that you can Cast an Entire Screen (noted as Experimental).
So the CCast has this capability!
Just a matter of creating an App for Android and iOS that does this, Making it secure for Privacy concerns, and Whitelisting it.
The fact they are experimenting with it on a PC tells you everything you need to know about Google's Intentions regarding Mirroring.
It's coming the only thing we don't know is when!

phone to pc then pc to tv mirror threesome
sooo. while we (im)patiently wait for googhell to implement mirroring for android, i just mirror to pc and then mirror pc to chromecast.. but its laggy because of the 3 device wifi bridge.. hope this helps
When I go to settings, then display then Chromecast instead of getting no nearby devices found I see the chromecast!
If I click it it says casting failed, but surely thats a sign it's definitely happening very soon?
It does it on my unrooted stock Nexus 7 and Nexus 4. And my CC is stock as well.

Yes it will get here in time...
As of now I expect that the Android side is done or almost done and it will only work for Google who have a developer version that either has the Mirror App built into the CCast or a Whitelist that allows it.
There is a lot more work on the Android side to get it to work than there would be on the CCast side so it makes sense the Android side of the support would show up first and the CCast side will be unavailable to public until they announce it as officially supported.
And from what I read only Google Experience (aka Nexus) devices will have it at that time....
I definitely hope/suspect Google is making firmware changes in Chromecast to head in that direction. Likely right now it's simply sending an mDNS/Bonjour advertisement that the built-in Miracast support can see.

I think the finding of the unit is already part of the Media Router Library in Android...Thats what most of the Apps are using I believe to find the Available devices.
What may be missing is the code to make a screen for the CCast or if that is done the actual Player side of the CCast which Google could have access to but User CCasts do not either due to it not being included in the latest updates or not white listed to work.
The Cast Screen already shows for Miracast. The MR Library already has what it needs to find the device and it probably also has the code to list in cast screen (since it has to find the device first) so it may be the stuff that happens AFTER you select the device that isn't finished or hidden from public use at the moment.
I'm hoping they put the player app into the ROM so that it will work without the need for internet load because not every place you might want to do a presentation has Internet access.
Is there a way to have apps such as Netflix send to Chromecast by default?
I have a tablet dedicated to chromecast control but have to tell it to use chromecast each time in each app.
I'd settle for having to tap the cast icon each time but that I have to then specify which chromecast to send to when I only have one is infruriating.

While I'm sure it could be done but it wouldn't make sense to do because what happens when you want to watch something on the tablet or phone?
Consider this...With the right TV the two Cast button presses are in lieu of having to change the input on the TV since selecting a CCast will change the input for you and even turn the TV on if it was off.
Also, as mentioned elsewhere, the Cast button is designed to a pop-up menu, giving the option to disconnect, as well as see the label of the Chromecast.
I can understand the convenience, but I actually prefer the two-tap, with the AllCast beta which supported "always use this Chromecast" for single-click use, I had accidentally tapped and turned on the TV. Then I had to get the TV remote to turn the TV off, since Chromecast doesn't do that.
I searched and didn't find anything, so I'm asking now
Can I cast movies/TV shows I've synced to my iPhone 6 to my Chromecast? Or should I just buy the Apple TV?
I'm sure it can be done with the correct app. Although I get the Chromecast connection with OPlayer lite (videos in mp4 as per their directions), it doesn't cast. Rocket cast (? name) won't let me access my PC or RavPower streaming device without an upgrade. It does show the two macs in the house, but I didn't try to access them. Hopefully someone who has done this will tell us which app. I have Android devices which work perfectly with all my local and web streaming, but half of the family is Apple so I'd like to know (I'm the tekky).

The best way to do this is through an android device as a proxy, i.e., use AirPlay to send stuff from iOS to the android proxy, which then converts and sends to chromecast. The proxy does not display anything, just as hidden bridge.
OK. I was approaching this from DRM free videos which I'd already set up as mp4's, but I think you are talking iTunes' purchases for which Apple TV is the easy solution due to the Apple infrastructure. I think the Android proxy server idea may break you out of the Apple stronghold. I just want an app that will let me discover local then cast local (not local to the device but to the Wi-Fi environment) videos--if that's possible.

For casting local videos from iOS to Chromecast, it should be very easy, I am surprised that you couldn't find an app on that.
The approach I am talking about is more of generic one, basically AirPlay to chromecast, we are developing such an app. It is AirPlay receiver , in the meantime also a proxy to chromecast
Has anyone checked on the Google Home Hub if you can cast your entire screen onto it using the cast icon in the pull down menu on say a pixel phone or some other Android type phone?
no you cannot it work with apps like youtube, movies and other apps that support casting but for some reason casting the entire screen does not seem to work currently
Similar to if you try casting Netflix to the Hub. It does it for about a second, then it seems to remember "that's something I'm supposed to tell the user I can't do," so it stops and says (best HAL9000 voice) "I'm sorry Dave. I don't know how to do that yet."
So CAN it do this (is it technically capable)? Yes. WILL it do it? No.
