android 10 upgrade - Android Auto General

Hi guys I'm new on here, i do apologise if i have posted on the wrong area , i have a Chinese 10.1 inch android SPRD head unit with android 10 installed. I have fallen out with the guy i bought it off as there was a lot of miss advertisements on advert which did not match when i got the unit.
However thats another story and wont get into it, what i want to know and if anyone can help me i will really appreciate it as iv tried everything and getting no where. So here are my problems :-
1, Upgrading android 10 to android 11.. there seems to be no menu that has the upgrade option, so how can i upgrade to android 11 or twelve? And How do i upgrade mcu version?
2, im having problems with GPS when car is on i loose gps signal to like half of one bar.. when car/ignition is turned off GPS comes alive and get good signal and catches satellites.. what does this happen? Whats the solution?
3, i cant change the icons on home screen, cant change/add on tool bar, no bluetooth button to turn on and off on bar on top of screen.. but blue tooth is there works fine when connecting phone and bluetooth icon shows on top bar when connected..
4, the android version seems very limited on this unit, even in developer settings there dont seem to be many adjustments options to turn on or off.. i have a meter display shows cars rom gauge and speedometer its all im KM and there is no options anywhere to change this..
I have attached pictures of GPS ignition off and one of ignition on.. also all the build software info pictures too..
Any help would be appreciated

Milestone Wi-fi/3G connects but not send data

Hello there,
As a newcomer, I found out these foruns filled up with great information and guys willing to help, so came here to ask for some help ....I am both excited and dissapointed with my brand new Milestone. Bought the handset about 5 days ago, which came with Android 2.0. Then updated it straight away to version 2.1 via "Motorola Software Update". So far so good ...here´s the problem I am facing :
While connected to wi-fi or 3g(issue is easier to notice due to 3G icon at the task bar, which points out in those small arrows data that is being sent/received) phone stops to receive data out of the blue. All connectios are cut off(it also happens when the handset is locked up). Some basic trouble shooting i did:
- tested all pcs connected to the same wi-fi network. No issues detected for these
- reset wi-fi router configs. Didn´t work
- tried other wi-fi router. Presented same issue
- swapped another carrier chip to test 3g connection. Presented the same issue
- tested my GSM chip on ther phone. Worked properly
- Reset phone to default settings. This time the connection took longer to drop, like 30 minutes, instead of the usual 10 minutes. After the first drop, it´s started behaving the same way again.
It seems pretty much that there an issue going on here (obvious...hehehe). I am considering the following:
- Might be a software issue. So, right now i am downgrading it back to 2.0 version, check if it works properly and then move to 2.1 hopping to get the issue fixed.
- Use retailer warranty and claim for a new phone =/
Could you guys help me out ??
Thanks in advance and Best Regards !!!
Guys, after downgrading version to 2.0, phone stills presenting the same issue. I think it´s turning into hardware issue =/....does anyone have a clue about it?
Thanks and Best Regards!!!

[Q] Main GalaxyS bugs or bad features.

Hi! I hope to write in the right area, but if not I ask someone to move my post in the right one.
Now I have a HTC Diamond device, but I've to change it for a GalaxyS or an iPhone4.
I would like to buy a GalaxyS device, but I read many posts about bugs, lags, gps problems, so I wonder if it is a great choice this GalaxyS.
I like android and all the development opportunities around it (thanks to XDA), but it seems to be not so stable yet...
I flashed many ROMS on my Diamond in the past, so it's not a problem to do the same for my GalaxyS, but problems are fixed? The GPS works fine? Maybe not...
Maybe with Froyo 2.2?
iPhone4 is not so open as an Android device, but it's a very stable device!
What do you think about?
coming from a winmo background you're gonna love the galaxy s! its miles ahead in terms of refinements, polish and brilliant integration. The GPS problems are nothing so critical...its more of a sw fix im guessing. I live in India, and i have ZERO problems on my GPS....i feel the bug is something country/carrier specific.
there are many things to love and obsess with the galaxy s....go get yourself one, you sure wont regret it
While I'd love to echo what dreamtheater39 has said, I can't. It's a brilliant phone, but after having mine for just under a month, it's starting to lag like crazy, and in the last two days I've had a ton of dropped calls and the phone has switched itself off/crashed three times in the last few hours resulting in data loss because the power button doesn't respond (forcing me to hard-reset the phone).
All I can say is that, if you do get one, have an open mind. And make sure you don't get locked into a lengthy contract in case things do go awry.
same here GPS working great since day 1

Maybe I got a lemon
Maybe I got a lemon but I can not stand the i9000. I have 4 bugs that drive me crazy.
1. Market Place hangs at starting download. I have to do a factory reset to download an update an app.
2. GPS just stops working or it puts you on a different street when you are using navigation. The worst part is then it has to recalculate the directions twice, once for the wrong location and then again for the correct location, which is a real pain in the pocketbook when you are rooming.
3. Receives invalided cert from a hotspot connects the 1st time then never again. So I cannot use my hotspot at work, my old iphone connects no problem.
4. Does not always switch between wifi and mobile network. Have to go to airplane mode and back to get 3G network. (I tried changing the wifi sleep settings)
Mmmm...so maybe it's a good device, but I understand that who had an iPhone before it seems to be a step backward...is it?

[Q] GPS dropping in sleep/standby

Hi,
I've done a fair amount of searching on here and google regarding the gps issues with this phone. Tightening the screws definitely helps with the lock time, but I am still having issues with the device dropping gps lock when the display is off.
I have an S3 Mini running stock Android 4.1.2 and mainly use Viewranger for mapping and the GPS status app. Both apps work fine while the display is on, but when it goes off, gps lock is lost after an indeterminate amount of time. Setting GPS Status to 'Use gps when screen is dimmed' makes no difference.
I use both of the above GPS apps on a HTC Wildfire and a Galaxy Tab 8.9 and neither drop GPS lock when the screen is dimmed, so it is definitely an issue the S3 mini.
Here's hoping for a fix on this otherwise great device!
TIA
fourth ooplotel
Maybe I should rephrase the question
Is anyone here *not* having a problem with GPS lock when the display sleeps?
Ta
I hav the same problem which means I'm unabble to use running apps.... Have you found a solution?
No fix yet unfortunately, and it's looking increasingly like there never will be one.
I've been taking a GT8.9 in my backpack for GPS on walking trips. I'll also keep my old wildfire in case I need a pocket-sized GPS device that actually works!

Hi, i've just purchased the S3 mini phone and I have the same problem. Previously I had a Wildfire S one and I've never had any problem, even taking into account I use GPS to track my trip when I sail on the sea. I'll try to summarize some clues I've found:
- Samnsung Galaxy S3 mini with Android 4.1.2
- I usually use "Marine" app, from Navionics join "GPS Status"
- The problem only appears with "track" option, after stand-by, but after an indeterminated amount of time.
- Once we check the GPS is not working, I can see on GPS Status the satellites but no one providing position (i.e. value of 0/12 on pos/sat field). Finally I need to restart the app, GPS Status and the GPS to get the connection again.
- In other forums I've ridden about not to switch off the screen to avoid Android turn off the GPS because of energy safe mode. With tracking function should not be necessary do it.
I hope anyone can give us some light.

I have the same problem and think I have the solution (I am still testing, but sofar so god).
Use Keep My GPS Alive (testing) or GPS Keeper Lite / Keep Alive (still to try). Look for them in google play.

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried both of those apps and neither prevented the gps dropping lock when the screen was off. In fact, my gps/map application would stop tracking my location when the screen was on and either of the above were running in the background, so they actually made the situation worse!

Have the same problem. Often 0/12 with "strong" signal. But no FIX. And it happens short time after 11/12 (or so).
This happens with various ROMs (all based on Stock)

Huawei P9 Plus GPS Quality

Hello everybody,
i would like to get some estimations regarding the quality of the GPS.
Please on the hardware- and the software end.
Last years i used a samsung I9300 and the GPS was fine.
Then i switched to an Elephone P9000. I think from the hardware end GPS was fine, but
it didn't work very well, maybe due to bad software? And it seems to be a common mediatek problem?
I didn't find anything in the internet, what do you think, does the GPS in p9 plus work well?
THX a lot,
Henning
As per my experience my P9 Plus has one of the best GPS I've ever experienced and it even works in the airplane pretty much accurately when comparing to airplane instruments. I'm based in SE Asia and have reception of American, Russian and few Chinese satellites and fix is pretty fast. No complaints here whatsoever.
Yes. GPS is great...
Hi,
in the meantime i also bought this phone.
I can confirm now that the GPS is very good.
It is even possible to see the two tracks on the road next by next if you drive
to a destination and come back the same way.
Also, had never this accurate GPS before...

Henning
Model number?
Great to hear that you all have a good gps signal. I just bought the p9 plus too. But strangely the gps signal seems like "not so good" , in my opinion. The story has to begin with my previous Huawei's phone.
I had previously owned the mate 7, which it was came with KitKat version and the GPS worked flawlessly. I updated it to lollipop then and the GPS still work perfectly, once turn on the gps, it takes only seconds (yes, it's really seconds, less than 5 seconds to be more appropriate...) to locate where I am. Those day I enjoyed using the gps as it was super fast and accurate. But things changed after I updated it to marshmallow recently. It became very unstable, very inaccurate. So I install the app "GPS test" and found that the accuracy is upto 150 feets which is very inaccurate (I can assure that the accuracy on KitKat and lollipop were only few feets or the most 10 plus feets, It was really super fast and accurate previously....). I know that weather, such as cloudy situation will affect the accuracy, numbers of satellites working etc so I tried to find out if that's the case but nope, I compared it with my cheap Elephone gps and under the same time same condition, I open the app and tested the gps, Elephone gave me the accuracy of 12 feets !
Sometimes when I try to use maps, it even can't detect where I am and if it does, it shows a wrong location. So I thought it is the problem of marshmallow as I searched on other forum and discovered that people also facing gps issue on Nexus phone with marshmallow version. I tried fixing it with another app "gps status & toolbox" , and also found out that "use wifi to improve accuracy" had to be turned on but the accuracy still only about 50 plus feets.
Then I bought the p9 plus, and hope that everything shall be very good just like the mate 7 KitKat and lollipop version, but it is not! The accuracy is also 50 plus feets after doing all the improvement work as above. So dear fellows I would like to ask what is your version of marshmallow and what is the accuracy of your p9 plus? Mine is VIE-L29C20B100. I am thinking if my version is not updated to the latest? And if there is a latest version , does the gps work good?
Hey guys!
I´m not really pleased with the performance of the GPS on my P9 plus ... but the app itself could be to blame. I was traveling on the highway and the navigation got confused and thought i´m traveling on the road parallel to the highway (surely minimum 100m distance between them). I´m using OSMand+ for navigation and it worked fine with other phones so far. Which app are you using?
I use Google maps, it works great imho, I came from a Galaxy S5
Try to create a new user profile on the phone. Switch to the new user and check if the GPS still behaves as you mentioned.
Hi all,
just to give some updates on my findings. Recently I went through a youtube video comparing mate 9 and p 9 plus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0impUegGO0&t=2s), at time 10:32 it showed exactly the GPS app that I use to test the GPS signal and it also showed exactly the same results as my p9 plus. This being said, I believe there is no way we can further improve the GPS accuracy and I suspect it is due to mashmallow problem (as I had said KitKat and lollipop run very well in accuracy and Nexus user with mashmallow also complain their GPS accuracy is not good), not because phone GPS not good. So maybe we will have to wait till Huawei release firmware update for android Nougat and see if it improves the GPS accuracy.
However, having said that, I didn't really find the GPS signal "not good" in real life. I mean, when u use the GPS app test the GPS it gives "not good" accuracy, but when I open the map for navigation, what I experience so far is EXTRAORDINARY GOOD. I turn on the GPS and immediately switch on the map app, it instantly locate where I am, not even trying to "looking for GPS signal", really really fast, really instantly locate where I am. And it is super accurate. So I think maybe the GPS app is not something that we should use to gauge whether the phone GPS quality good or not, the real life performance will tell more truth. Just like Antutu does not always really reflect the real performance of the phone.
So for those who are having GPS problems when using map, I will suggest u all try to use another map app, maybe the problems really came from the map itself but not phone GPS problem. So for this moment I will stop looking for solution to improve the GPS accuracy (on the GPS app wise), and enjoy using my p9 plus, hope u guys too
Hi, as you say, forget tests, how does it actually work in real life.
Bought my wife one a few days ago and last 2 days testing gps driving around was only seconds to fix and no dropouts in about 1 hour driving. Thats my test.
Great phone by the way, and top quality finish.
If only it had an FM radio...
Sent from my HTC One_M8 dual sim using XDA-Developers mobile app
I find it's slow to lock or find a location, compared to my previous phone (Z Ultra).
If I'm somewhere (even outside, away from buildings, with clear view of the sky) it will take a good few seconds to lock onto my location. Old phone, and even my tablet, are almost instant, taking no more than 1-2 seconds.
This is using Google Maps.
Just a minor niggle, but can be annoying when in the car and needing to find directions quickly.

Staying outside, especially without any buildings around or an empty land, could be harder for the gps to locate you. I am guessing... This sounds not logic but let me tell what I found again...
Recently I use an app which provide public transport info. This app needs gps in order to locate where are you and provide the info for the public transport at the area you are standing at. Just when I switch on the app and yet to switch on gps, my gf helped me to press the "locate me" button and I was telling her don't do silly things as I haven't turn on gps. But right after that the phone located where I was! I was like ehhh...... how come.... I double check and confirmed that I didn't switch on gps!
So again, recently I am adjusting the phone settings hoping to lengthen the phone battery (even though it's already very good. I can use it for 2 days per charge ). I found something very annoying in one of the setting - location services. Numeral time I have chose the 1st option "use gps, wifi and mobile networks (high accuracy)" and it keeps set it back to the 2nd option " use wifi and mobile networks ". I thought it was a bug of the phone but then later when I relate it to the event happened earlier (the public transport event mentioned above), I was thinking could it because I never turn on gps? then I turned on gps and yes, it automatically switch to the 1st option, and when I switch off gps, it auto switch to 2nd option again.
I then realized that other day when the phone located me without turning on gps, I was close to the MRT station which provide free wifi. And I am not sure do you guys ever experience that sometimes when you switch on the map app without turning on gps, the map itself locate where u r (maybe not very accurate but it's at the bearby area), just that when u try to use the map it will ask u to switch on gps.
That being said, I suspect the phone continuously locate where we are by using the wifi router(if any, at the nearby place) because wifi router is location specific? (not sure, maybe expert know this...) and that's why when u don't switch on gps, it is already "pre-locate" where u r and only if u switch on gps it will immediately give u the accurate position. And that also means if u stay outside without any buildings (and so without wifi too), the phone could not pre-locate u and it will solely rely on gps and that's why take some time to locate where u r?
Anyway this weekend I will be going for a long distance trip and will test the gps to see if the phone give good gps signal
just back from the long journey vacation. The phone gps works flawlessly without dropping off at all. And time to locate also excellent within 2 seconds

Bluetooth Bug EMUI 4

Bluetooth is very bugy on my P9 emui 4... After disabling Bluetooth, it would not get colorless like the other disabled buttons but stay in a state between full blue (activated) and Grey (deactivated). I had severe difficulties connecting to a JBL Flip 3... Kind of embarrassing for a flagship phone.

Hey same problem here! Did you happen to notice that you can't even send or receive files via bluetooth?
First of all, its not ""embarrassing"", dont judge whole series of devices or company, by your separate problem, its like saying that all Ford cars are bad, because your car have one problem... Dont you think its kinda... stupid to say such thing?
As for problem it self, its hard to say whats wrong, I would suggest turning BT on and then off via setting section, reboot phone and then check if it work correctly. Then all what I can think of is checking services(force close them) and checking logs if you know how.
If that simple method will not work... well it would be nice to know your OS version, but as you said you have EMUI 4, and I can just guess that its latest 4.1.1, I can just say "update your phone to latest version"....
And if you dont want to update to EMUI 5, because someone say you that its bad(no its not, people who say that just messed up something), and you want to stay with EMUI 4(damn know why if EMUI 5 is the same if not better), I would suggest you to make backup via huawei app, PC if you have files on phone and google sync, and then factory reset phone.
Last time I did that, with reverting backup it took me about hour, but I had lots of files on PC to transfer, so whole process of factory reset and reverting backups should take about 30-40min depending on your internet and what you backup.
I would love to get emui 5, but that's another matter... I have no idea when I will get it (c150).
We have exactly the same problem on our Huawei P8 lite's (managing 25 devices). So it seems not related to the model. So far no clue how to solve...
