Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and the touch pro for that matter. I'm an avid fisher in south georgia and am in need of an app to help me tag gps locations on some of the rivers and lakes around here. I have a Fish Finder on my boat but not a gps unit. Since my phone has the hardware built in, I figured I could save a few bucks and use it for the funcionality. I've searched the forums and google to no avail. Does anyone know of a program for winmo that is either dedicated to this or could be used to accomplish this. I guess something like google maps but with more focus on the lakes and rivers.
I know you guys will come through so thanks in advance.

I agree
we need something that can be used like a hand held GPS and not just driving directions from Google Maps and AmazeGPS. Something that actually shows the coordinates where you are so you can set a marker to go back to that spot.
GREAT IDEA SIR.
Anyone know of some wares which can do this... Does not have to be free, but free is preferred!

Pretty sure this does what you need:
http://aeguerre.free.fr/Public/PocketPC/NoniGPSPlot/EN/index.php
NoniGPSPlot
It reminds of my old Garmin eTrex. And not the color one either, the original yellow waterproof one.
Sweet find, looks like it might be just what I need.
Installed, and will test it out on my next excursion.
On a side note, I also found a program called Run.GPS but it's a pay program, Anyone know if it is better. They state that it is made for many different sporting applications. Just wondering if it's worth the extra money over the free one listed by phobos512?
not working on HTC HD2
I downloaded the smartphone version but its still not working
i just got this tablet its running android 2.3 and the kernel version is 2.6.35.7-tcc [email protected] #1 the build number is 20111231.083150
i am used to flashing roms with android for quite sometime and i did hope when getting this tablet there may be some options after getting it to be able to get a kernel to make it run faster...
or maybe any type of custom rom that i can use
i don't expect a huge response but it would be nice if anyone can point me in a direction that may help max this device out...

Anything? Anyone?
Bump since I'm looking at the 777A. I can find information about the 666, but that's only running 2.1 and I never read into the 42 pages information enough to see if there were ROM's or Kernels since I stopped reading when I found out I can at least Z4Root.
i did read in some forums that there is a way to put cyanogenmod on it
Bump as I'm setting up mine now
Let us know how everything goes? I'm looking to try out the Erisin ES778A.
I'm planning on installing the stereo tomorrow (technically later today), so I'll keep you posted. I've been using the pad in the meantime, typical Android fashion and treating it like my phone...installed 90% of the same apps, launcher, etc. I've found hotspot widgets for my phone, so I stay tethered while at work, then WiFi when I'm at home. I wish the screen was a bit brighter, but it's no better or worse so far than the AVIC F90BT I was using before. I've been spoiled w/ AMOLED on my phone, so seeing the same screen emulated on the pad shows the differences in color...and the differences between touchscreen styles.
I've yet to figure out how to root the unit since Z4Root doesn't do temporary or permanent, so I haven't gotten into things like seeing if I can overclock the CPU, increase the SD card reading speed, etc. So far the only real things I've noticed that are odd about the pad is that it has 3 seperate locations for memory/storage, ie NAND, SD (4GB card included) and something else. I don't know if the seperate NAND or whatever is what stores the WinCE portion of the stereo, but once I find/make a backup of the stock software (just in case I brick the thing playing w/ it), I haven't explored into what I can delete to increase it's efficiency. There are apps I will never use on it, so it'd be nice to delete things I don't need and customize it as I have my phone to exactly what I want. I've noticed I can't designate a default browser (I use browser chooser first, then I run stock, Opera and Skyfire) and once in a blue moon it acts as if it can't read the card or if it's not there, but reboot/power-cycling the device fixes it. I have an extra 16GB card I'm going to throw into the unit anyways, so we'll see if that changes that little hiccup.
From what I've read and the emailing w/ the seller of the Erisin deck, the 777 is for the US market and 778 is for the EU market...being the difference in the TV tuner. EU has digital for the DVT-B, so they can tune stuff if, and while we've recently made the switch from analog to digital finally, the 777 as it is won't pick up digital TV like it would in a newer style TV w/ a built-in digital tuner for free HDTV channels. Myself and a co-worker have been looking into a powered converter (he uses one in his house, hooked up to a non-HDTV) that will work with the stereo that won't have a seperate remote for changing channels, but it's not critical to me since I plan on streaming everything anyways....hence difference browsers for different sites.
I thought the 778 had Bluetooth built into the Pad where the 777 has it in the main unit only? That's the only reason I wanted the 778 over the 777.
i ordered the 778a and the main unit has the bluetooth not the tablet... kinda gay
How much did you pay for it and how long did it take to arrive?
i paid $380 or so and it took around 3 days for it to come
Hey I just purchased the ES7835a and I'm looking for the original firmware to restore my tablet. Would you happen to still have it lying around?

Thread bump as I installed a newer version, the ES7035A, into my truck yesterday. The ES777A was OK, but after a few months it had an internal grounding error, so it'd pop the subwoofer on shutdown and power up. After arguing with Erisin about their warranty, I paid for return shipping back to them, paid the difference to upgrade to the ES7035A (thinner pad, Bluetooth in the tablet and deck) and then got PayPal involved after I received yet another one that was broken (a few buttons atop the tablet had failed, ends up the swtich soldered to the board broke off, so I soldered it back on myself) and they refunded my shipping and upgrade charges.
Now that I've got it installed, I'm looking at options for rooting it, seeing about maybe even upgrading to Android 4.x that the newer Erisin versions have, etc. Honestly, I'd LOVE if I could just send the tablet to a DEV here, have you back it up and everything, then custom bake a ROM, kernel, etc for myself and others to improve upon the very slow Android 2.2 that's on the tablet currently. I've read a thread about rooting TC8803 tablets, and supposedly it'll work on my tablet, but at the same time I worry about missing some step, not knowing an acronym or term someone mentioned and bricking the thing. I've baked my own ROM's in 7ZIP in the past, but if I screw this tablet up, I've got virtually NO support after the fact, so I'm not ready to take the risk just yet.
Anyone will to help?

Not sure if you're still subscribed to this thread, but when I had an issue with my ES777A, they gave me a website link that I could download the firmware. What I'd really like to do is get a link from them for downloading their 4.x firmware and installing it on my current ES7035A since it has the same specs as the newer stereos they have which are running 4.x.
My first ever stereo I bought from these guys was an ES777A, which had crashing problems. They gave me a link to download the software from, but I see a "related column" with many other "Update.zip" links, so I'm curious is there is a way to verify which is which in regards to getting my hands on the Android 4.x firmware and if it's safe to install it on my ES7035A.

After going through 3 representatives using their online chat, I finally got someone to give me the firmware for the ES7835A that runs Android 4.x. Now I'm curious how I can install this onto my ES7035A which runs Android 2.3.5. I'm trying to get them to send me the link for the ES7035A as well so that maybe someone who knows more than I can compare the two firmwares since the Erisin person I'm talking to insists I can't install it.

So I have a Vizio Co-Star Google TV. and it seems to me that well Google TV is dying. I heard that an update was going to come out for it to add Chromecast. I haven't seen it happen yet. Does anyone know if that is going to happen? Or has anyone found a way to do it on the forum? I have tried searching and I haven't found anything. Hope someone could help me out. Thank you all for even reading this.

Be Patient as there is a slim chance that Google TVs may be upgradable to Android TV at some point. But that won't come out until Android L is officially released I believe.
You may see it in new TVs sooner and in the end the manufacturer of your TV will be the end determining factor on if your unit can be upgraded or not.
Thanks Asphyx.
My Google TV isn't a TV it is a Vizio Co-Star and its like a box that has an HDMI in and out. It has an over lay on my TV that I like so much. thats why I do not like the Chromecast dongle. I would have to change inputs all the time. With the co-star i do not have too. But I seem to be missing out on things like HBO Go and other apps that are no longer getting support. I should say the whole system doesn't seem to be getting much support any more.
I'm obviously a newbie, but since I"m using a Nexus 7 (with Autodroid currently) as the head unit for my car, I'm wondering if it's possible to use (or adapt?) Auto, when it comes out, to the Nexus 7? I'm sure it's possible, but what might be involved? Is it practicle?
I have some programming experience, but it's been a long time. Nevertheless, it might be fun to try if it's not too involved.
Thanks to all who contribute to these forums!
I'm pretty sure it comes built in with cars so unless your willing to buy the hardware idk...
I might be wrong though. xx

Check out AutoMate!
Im also running a nexus 7 as my head unit. Came back this forum with the same question..... would android auto be ported to a tablet? Im pretty happy with my my nexus running pure android but you know curiosity killed the cat....
AutoMate? That looks very interesting.
Maybe I don't know where to click, but I don't see much about it other than it's "Android Auto, re-imagined for phones and tablets". It's a horrible search name, since the search noise makes it impossible to search for.
I can't see it on Google Play. I joined the community, but there's no news from anywhere or anyone that I can see about it, only unanswered comments from other people who have joined. What am I missing? Can I download this somewhere?
Thanks!
The g+ community has a small description section explaining what AutoMate is, along with some screen shots. It's currently under development with a target for early April.

Thanks for that. I see it now.
I'll be very interested in how this plays out. Currently I've got my Nexus 7 running pretty well as a head unit, but it could always be better!

I think this will be figured out.
But Google is likely to resist and may not allow apps that help on Google Play.
Who cares, there is a lot of apps available only on xda, it will be one of it !

Everything Is just processing and everything just happens on phone, video is just sent to head car unit and displayed on screen, it's 100% sure that there is a way to baypass this and just use phone screen as head unit screen, that's it

From Google's perspective, to some extent, yes.
But head units can add "external" features, like Pioneer's AM/FM and HD radio.
These "external" features might even be possible to "internalize" to some extent, to avoid the hassles and UI discrepancies that mode buttons bring. (Not positive yet.)
I have noted there is a protocol between phone and head unit. It's not a simple hardware type connection like HDMI/DVI for video for example.
This is an extensible protocol of course, and future possibilities are limitless. I'll write some more of what I've found on the developer mode thread I started.
I like Android Auto on my 2018 Hyudnai SFSAWD. However, I have another app on my Note 8 (not Rooted) that is called CarHome Ultra and have used it for years. It is much cleaner and has many more options that just Android Auto.
My question is there anyone who is familiar with CarHome Ultra and knows of a way to display/use that when in Android Auto?
My Note 8 is big, but the Display on the car is much bigger and better for driving.
CarHome is on Google Play and has so many options.
Here is a video on the apk and what it does. Much cleaner and more capability than just Android Auto.
Any comments/suggestions appreciated.

I guess it is Mirror Link application. It's different (than AA) standard that need to be supported by your car audio and your smartphone.
The apps have to use valid certificates and then Mirror Link can be used with CarHome app.
Regards.

Thanks for your info. I guess there is no way for this to happen. I would really like to see something like this incorporated into AA. So much functionality.
In case it is a standalone car dashboard application, you can use AA Mirror to mirror it to your Android Auto head unit.
Download will try later and let everyone know.
Tried this apk today in the WiFi and USB modes to no success. See Attch. The apk works on my phone but only has options for:
1. Mirror to PC
2. Mirror to Phone
I do require some clarification. What do you mean by:
1. Standalone car dashboard app? (I assume that CarHome Ultra is that since I can use that in my car(s) and get all functionality on the Note 8 screen.)
2. Android Auto head unit? ( I assume that is my Hyundai AV Display on my dash.)
Thanks for your time and info. I do appreciate it greatly.
Please check this link to get an idea of mirroring your screen to your AndroidAuto head unit:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...irror-screen-android-auto-disucssion-t3734180
Please check this thread for a simplified guide to set it up:
https://www.reddit.com/r/GolfGTI/comments/9f07de/howto_mirror_your_phone_screen_with_android_auto/
It is fairly simple to get it running and you should be able to view(mirror) and control the CarHome Ultra app from your phone to your car display (provided it supports Android Auto).

Thank you very much for the help and info you have provided. I'm sure others will also find this very valuable.
I do have a Note 8, not rooted. My 2018 Hyundai SF Sports AWD does have Android Auto and it is really great.
The only thing that I don't like about the Hyundai AA is that it does not indicate Speed, Compass, and is somewhat limited on the apps that you can use in AA.
I would have assumed that if AA was running Android it would have allowed all Android APKs to be run just like a phone. JMHO!
However, I do understand that their are limitations on all software. If only CarHome Ultra was certified to run on AA, that would really solve the problem. I did write CarHome Ultra Support and asked if they could do something to make this app compatible with AA. Still have not heard back from them.
Again, Thank you for all the help and info. People like you make this forum a valuable asset to all who visit this site.
You're welcome, my friend.
Sadly, Android Auto has very limited capabilities and many, many restrictions with regard to its usage and modifications at this point. Please note that Android Auto is not the same as Android. If your car unit supports only AA, your experience will be very limited. However, there are many members who are trying to make the best of it and developing new ways of tweaking it (AA Mirror mentioned above is an example).
IMHO, you're better off with a head unit that has its own processor and runs complete Android by itself. The possibilities with these head units are endless as they feature a complete Android environment unlike Android Auto.
Hope you have a great weekend.

There are many available online. You can also ask your local car accessories shop. Its better to invest in something with good specs though it might be a little pricey.
Let me know if you need any further help.

Totally confused with your reply. Don't know what a local car accessories shop can provide with me trying to mirror CarHome on my AA. I just think that AA is good, but very limited in using Android Apks unless you are looking for all the news Apks. JMHO!
I do say Thank you! You really try to help. I greatly appreciate it.

You asked which head unit runs Android by itself. My answer was for that.
If you want to run APKs or mirror your screen to your head unit, you will have to root your phone, I guess.
