New Google Pixel 7 Pro User - Introductions

Hi, I recently moved from a Huawei P40 Pro to a Google Pixel 7 Pro, as the camera is even better & I go sick of carrying round a spare old phone for the Google Play Services.
Mostly the Pixel does everything the Huawei does, and usually better. The screen is great & the sound good.
Only issues I have so far are battery life (needs recharging more), fingerprint reader (with a screen protector) & transferring music files via A. File Transfer.

Welcome to the xda family.
Cheers.

My idea for a cool nexus desk setup -unimportant :)

So, i have an idea im trying to make work.
I just recently bought a $10 clamp stand for 7-10 inch tablets that happens to fit my nexus 7 perfectly, and along with it came an idea to expand my current computer/desk setups abilities.
1. The stand has a weighted, rubber, 360 degree rotatable holster, that is waited enough to safely hang my nexus 7 off the edge of my desk, without risk of it dropping, making it look as if it is attached to the desk itself. that is where it is at the moment.
2. Face-recog: I want to get this interface on my computer, however for now face recognition works wonders on my nexus to unlock it when i sit down, when paired with (3.) i no longer have to touch my power button to wake the device (at expense of battery, which as my nexus is stationary, is no longer necessary)
3. Camera-motion-detection-wake: there is an app on the app store i bought to detect motion even on lock through the camera, when it does, it wakes the device which immediately starts face recognition, when i sit down, face detection will unlock my device.
4. (IDEA) Face recog for computer: If there is an app on the app store that can lock a windows/fedora/mac/ubuntu/mint device while the tablet screen is locked, i want to know about it. However to use multiple programs in sync, a face unlock program is available for windows as long as you have a webcam, if you set up your nexus as a wifi camera through an app on the play store, the nexus, and windows will be seeing the same image through the nexus to unlock your computer, and tablet, simultaniously. --Currently in motion to complete (4.)
5. Because of the voice recognition capability of the nexus 7, it would then extend your abilities to quickly gain knowledge on a subject without opening a window and using google, because of hot word detection, this makes it much easier to use on the nexus seven. (IDEA: i am currently looking for an app that seeks hotword detection while not inside of google voice so i can open google voice from my home screen (or any app) using voice)
6. Assistant, Speaktoit: This application is a degree more advanced then google now, and is freely available on the app store. i will be using a feature to replace google now with assistant by speaktoit, eliminating the need for me to press a button to continue to talk to my assistant.
7. XMBC: xmbc media center was recently released for android, and is installed on my nexus 7 currently, with it i should be able to keep a movie, show, music, or weather up without sacrificing productivity on my computer.
8. SPB shell: this nice, expensive, but nice, shell has a very advanced tablet interface that grants much more potential to a device that is using it. I currently have purchased this as it provides me immediate information, and a sophisticated note widget which i can keep on my desk, as my tablet is now stationary.
9. (IDEA Motion detection wake for both tablet and computer): motion detection can be performed the same way as step 4, using a program that uses the nexus 7's camera to wait for motion detection on my windows computer, both my tablet and computer, will wake the screen, and unlock upon me sitting down at my desk.
10. 1 keyboard, 2 devices: Using the wifi keyboard app originally created here on XDA-Developers, which is now freely available in the Play store. You can use your computers keyboard on both your computer, and your tablet, making your tablet much faster at completing tasks, as you are no longer limited in speed by an on-screen keyboard.
11. Instant messaging: This frees up your computers screen for productivity, while you can then chat on the tablet, using the same keyboard.
12. Audio from both devices, 1 headset: streaming your computers audio to an android device is simple, however streaming audio from an android device to your computer is much less complicated even than that. If you intend to use headphones, using an app that sends the audio from your nexus, to your computer, would allow you to use your tablet more effectively, as you would not miss notification sounds.
13. Talkatone: This allows you to place free phonecalls inside of the US on your tablet as long as you have wifi, with sprint and t-mobile, you can even keep your regular phone number, and recieve calls meant for your phone, on your tablet.
This setup with 2 nexus 7's will only increase computer productivity, same with 3, same with 4, and free up your screen space on your computer for things you want to do, while having things like (music, youtube, videos, social networks, weather, downloading) all on your tablet/tablets.
I will have a video of this setup working, how it will look , and demonstrate any increase in productivity, in the next week or so on youtube, and will embed it here for any who are interested.
I do want to ask though, if any of you out there that read this know of any applications i may not have heard of to help this process, or any other thing the nexus can do to increase productivity when stationary by your computer, Please feel free to add on or aid me in any way, i want this to look as nice as possible.

[Q] Windows Phone 8 vs Android 4.4.2

I am an Android phone user for 4 years now who is quite happy with my current phone the S3 LTE. No doubt Windows phones are on the rise and I am curious. So, I would like to ask these questions regarding the OS (and the latest updates attached to it as of March 2014) in particular high-end Lumia phones (like the 1020) that would help me decide.
1. Does the Lumia's Bluetooth allows me to send photos (or any files supported) via bluetooth to an Android phone?
2. Does Lumia have a quick toggle to settings to instantly turn on or off things such as wifi, Bluetooth, brightness, etc. (much like the notification drop down bar of Android)?
3. Does the Lumia have Dolby Mobile or Dolby capability in its music player? Is there a customisable equaliser to the new Lumias? Or Surround sound option?
AND Can one create a Playlist on-the-fly or via the device itself? And does the Lumia's music player have the ability to "find" or search for the Album art of a song/s online?
4. Does Lumia phones fully support full drag n dropping of files (.mp3, .flac, .mp4) from my Mac to the Lumia without the need of any 1st-party app?
5. What alternatives can you guys recommend for Google Translate, Google Drive and Google Keep (that new note-taking app)?
And why no Youtube app on the Marketplace? Or I could be wrong.
6. Is there a pinch to zoom feature in zooming objects for taking photos? Is there an option to edit then share them via Email, Bluetooth, Twitter, Instagram, Dropbox, etc.? A way to set photos as a phones's wallpaper? (For 8.0 atleast)
7. Any swiping capability in typing? (A feature found in Android phones where you slide your fingers on the keyboard for faster typing) are there any predictive text ability in WP8?
8. Any good alternatives music player, video player for the Lumia?
I'm looking for an app that supports hi-fidelity files such as Flac or video files such as .mkv?
9. Does the Lumia (or any WP8 phones) have the capability to print wirelessly to a wireless printer via an app or within device?
10. Can one send complaints or suggestions to an app developer via the Marketplace? (much like in Google's Play store)
11. How fast is the startup and shutter speed of the Lumia cameras? Is it as quick as an S3 or iphone? Is there a panorama mode? Can i easily or quickly see a photo (with a swipe to the left or right or thru a window toggle or something) that i have taken then easily & quickly edit them then send them via bluetooth or post them via Twitter, etc.,?
12. Is there a Battery-saving option in Lumia phones? (Like what most Android phones have nowadays)
13. Games are still a disappointment as i am writing this 7 out 10 of my games are NOT on the Marketplace. is MS doing anything about this?
For me its kinda crucial but I do admit I like a bit of casual games on my daily commute or when during a holiday.
Pls advice. Thanks.
1. Yes
2. Nope, not until 8.1
3. There's an equalizer, you can make playlists in various apps
4. I don't use a Mac, with windows it works fine
5. The bing versions / onedrive / one note or evernote, there are several YouTube apps, consider searching
6. Yes and yes, no wallpaper until 8.1, then there are wallpaper tiles (google is your friend)
7. No custom keyboards
8. Yes, quite a few available, search the store
9. I am not sure, I mail then print
10. Probably
11. Fast and easy
12. Yes
13. It is up to devs, not up to MS for the most part, google doesn't develop games either.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For #7, there is supposed to be a swipe ability in 8.1 and the keyboard does have some predictive text.

i prefer android at all mate :good:
@naenee did a good job answering. I'd like to add that most of the things you ask about are just WP8 things, not Nokia / Lumia things. This means you could get a different phone (I realllly like Samsung's Ativ S line, which puts WP8 on hardware very like heir Galaxy phones, but partially that's because we have mostly jailbroken them). The only thing I can think of that's really Lumia-specific is the built in camera app features being better... but any phone can download things like a panorama app if they want to. Also, note that while "wallpaper" (behind the tiles on the Start screen) is not currently settable, you can of course use your own images for the lock screen.
As for apps, bear in mind that a lot of apps may have clones or at least decent impersonators, even if there's no official version. Also, remember that WP has Xbox Live exclusive games; there's no lack of games for WP8 (some very good indeed) but you may need to find different ones that fill the same niches for you.
Which way?
Never used windows phone & wondering if i can get a good one that beats Android phones (Using Galaxy S4).
---------- Post added at 08:27 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:18 PM ----------
Using it on my laptop though. Hope its a better experience too on mobile?
Windows Phone 8 is not Windows 8, first of all. OK, with that said...
Not many WP8 devices yet have specs comparable to the SGS4. However, it turns out that this really doesn't matter; on the same hardware (for example, my ATIV S vs. a SGS3) WP8 performs better than Android in many ways, including smoothness of UI.
android is very very different : WP so much
Windows Phone 8 system is fluid and stable on all devices. It is also a close one so you do not have to mamy customization possibilities and so many different option's to achieve one goal ( no widgets for example). It's theirs way or no way but this do not bothers me. The only lack I find is underdeveloped localization API which doesn't allow application's to often checks localization so programs like glympse or locale alarm does not work reliable. This feature gona be incorporated in 8.1 update which should be rolling out this summer. Overall for me it is better system than android ( I know well jelly bean on s3 when 4.4 rolled out I was on Lumia 920 ). It is simple fast and reliable. One interesting thing I noticed is a text wrapping in browser which is much better on WP 8 as I never get any problems with reading newspapers online -On HTC One s or Lg G2 I had problems with reading the same page's.

I've owned 3 WP phones (Lumia 710, HTC 8x, and Lumia 521) and I prefer Android. I currently have a GS4 and Nexus 4 (previously had a GS1 and GS3). WP isn't bad, but it lacks so many little things compared to Android. I am constantly disappointed because a function or feature is not available on WP that's on Android. I recommend you pick up an budget WP phone and give it a try for a few weeks.
I, on the contrary, am having a blast on WP8.
I still am an Android power user, but I prefer the look and feel of M$.
I don't like it app-wise. I miss apps like Fing and Wi-Fi Analyzer. Devs blame it on the API.
You're just talking about two different things, it all depends on what you're searching from a device

Thanks! Too bad my theme does not support it yet because I already like it better than Google Now Launcher.
Removed.
A lot of android apps I'm using but my favorite for OP3 is ZenUI Dialer & Contacts. It helps me to manage my calls, SMS and contacts.
Currently on stock 3.5.2 CB
Using stock launcher as the new side panel thing has a pretty nice UI.
Social: Facebook, WhatsApp, Tumblr
News: Reddit, Feedly
Games: NFS No Limits, Pokemon GO, Vainglory, Hearthstone
Music: Phonograph

Is vainglory confortable to play on this large screen (I mean for instance phone in hands like in transport or idk)
CF.lumen - allows me to use my phone at night but still get wonderful sleep afterwards.
Google Dialer - blocks spam calls much better than stock dialer
Le DPI Changer - set to 430, see more on screen (similar DPI feel to N6P)
Titanium Backup - make widgets for apps i ocassionally use (gasbuddy, google wallet, etc)
Google Duo - best-performing and easy to use video/audio calling app, hands down
FBreader - for reading eBooks, has full black background which makes reading in the evening on AMOLED really nice.
Solid Explorer - best file explorer hands-down (with or w/o root), even has cloud connectivity and fingerprint security now.
If you want to keep your phone stock:
[*]Twilight - not as good as CF.lumen, but still works pretty well and similarly allows me to use my phone at night but still get wonderful sleep afterwards.
[*]NetGuard- for full network control and filtering of traffic (uses local VPN API)
[*]Google Duo - best-performing and easy to use video/audio calling app, hands down
[*]Solid Explorer - best file explorer hands-down (with or w/o root), even has cloud connectivity and fingerprint security now.
[*]FBreader - for reading eBooks, has full black background which makes reading in the evening on AMOLED really nice.
App that worth mentioned due to AMOLED friendliness

New music player?

Coming from my S6, it probably has the best music player I've used for phones. The stock one for OnePlus awful, no widget for it, just looks awful, is not a smooth interface, and has the tagging error where it can't recognise half the songs I've put on it, saying it is by "<unknown>" (A wma file error I've heard?).
But my problem is that all of the apps on the Play store don't hold a candle to Samsung Music, so
1. Is there any possible way you could install Samsung Music onto a OnePlus 3T?
2. What is the best music player for the phone (ads can absolutely kill a music app)?

i use poweramp , can ealily say its the best
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maxmpz.audioplayer&hl=en
BlackPlayer is one my favourites, looks absolutely amazing on amoled and has tons of customisations. It fetches artist images automatically and can also fetch album covers if missing. It has a built in tag editor as well. has a customised lock screen too. You can tweek around loads of things in it. I use the paid version, here is a link to the free version:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kodarkooperativet.blackplayerfree&hl=en
ive been using this for a while, its great.. no issue for me, smooth transition between pages
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Project100Pi.themusicplayer&hl=en
I will always agree with anybody who says that PowerAmp is the best music player. I have tried lots of them and PowerAmp easily came out on top. It's a very, very well-made music player.
Nothing even comes anywhere near Poweramp. Well worth the purchase.
Phonograph all the way!!! -> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabouzeid.gramophone&hl=en

F'ing nice UI!
Poweramp = the best
Poweramp
Use PowerAmp due to high customization (Both Audio & Player) !
With tons of Widgets & Skin, it is indeed one hell of a kind!
The audio quality is superb if u set it correctly aligned with every Headphones, EarPhones & Speakers
The UI is very simple too use & useful too with tons of other features...
There are BETA version too though, that one is very cool due to improved visual effect playback!
Anyways, you should try it out & support the developers!
& here i attached my screenshot of PowerAmp from my device :
Sent from my OnePlus 3T using XDA Labs
I had a Samsung tablet around the same generation as the S6, and don't remember the music player being anything special. In general, I personally can't stand the TouchWiz skin and apps.
My understanding, most the Samsung apps require the Samsung framework, so wouldn't work without it.
Have to agree, the OnePlus music player is awful, and just about useless. It blows my mind that the app doesn't support playlists of any kind (only tagging), not even making new playlists in app. This alone was a huge deal breaker, and I was done using the app in about 5 minutes.
Little different of a music player suggestion, I've been (a bit surprisingly) using the Google Play Music app. Free, with few frills, and not many customizations (it does have a simple equalizer - although I prefer a system wide sound mod like V4A ARISE). But it simply works. It's mostly touted as a music streaming player; but it works just fine with files stored locally on the phone. Aesthetics-wise, it obviously conforms to Google's Material Design, if you are into that.
Google Play Music is not completely ad free: when you first open the app, the app will ask you to subscribe to ad-free streaming. And the streaming itself will have an ad when you first start, and periodic ads after that (but seem to be much less frequent then some other music streaming apps like Pandora). No ads if you are playing your own music files.
While Google Play Music is not for everyone, I've been enjoying it. I actually really enjoy the curated Google music stations. I've discovered quite a bit of new music this way.
i also was disappointed by OnePlus music app, since it doesnt even have a real playlist function.
i got myself newest HTC music player here from xda, since i had a HTC before and knew the music player always was pretty solid. so i can recommend that if you dont have one yet.

Ah, another HTC refugee like myself. Which HTC phone did you come from? I had the old M8 before the 3T.
I was actually thinking of suggesting the HTC music app myself. It's well laid out, and simply works. Nothing too fancy, but well done, as most HTC apps are.
I messed around a bit with the "ported" HTC apps on my 3T. But it actually made me a little sad to use the HTC apps, after abandoning them for OnePlus.
I was simply losing faith in HTC (after owning several of their devices - going back to my first smartphone in the old Windows Mobile days). The U Ultra looked underwhelming, although the U11 looks like a much better phone (but still overpriced). And the removal of the headphone mini-jack was a deal breaker for me.

i had the HTC One S, the little brother of the One X. Quite old phone, but it did its job still pretty good. even though no updates further than 4.2.2, which was kinda sad and the 16GB also began to become short since apps and stuff got bigger and bigger over time. but then i had the chance to get the OnePlus3 for 250€ and i couldnt resist.
true words my friend. its just as simple as it needs to be and offers basically everything what you would expect from a decent music player. i completely removed the OnePlus music app now and made HTC music my default. i also tried Sony music app, since they had some "music phones" in the past but HTC one was still better and cleaner in my eyes.
overall i am really amazed by my OP3, but i have no idea what OnePlus was thinking to release a music player without playlist function. thats just like a music player without mp3 support, pure nonsense.
If you don't mind using Google's stuff, Play music is a rather solid player; I typically use it because I have a play music subscription. but it works for the free version too, and you can upload your own music if you don't feel like storing the files on your phone.
I personally don't care too much for poweramp, but I don't have much experience with it, so I can't say either way if it's a go, or a no-go
Phonograph is wonderful, That's what I use instead of OnePlus Music. Free, open-source, material design, and customizable, without too many frills. Exactly what I look for in a local-storage music solution. it's also the default music player for Omni, hence why I started using it in the first place.

I have the Mate 40 Pro, Ask me anything you like ☺️☺️

I am based in the UK and officially own the Huawei Mate 40 Pro. I will say now it's a ridiculously good phone. I cannot fault it at all. Ask me anything you like in regards to it (design, Usage, etc) ... Happy to answer all questions
Great. I am thinking to upgrade P30 pro but very skeptical due to Google.
How u transfer full Whatsapp and how is realistic experience without Google (automatic photo upload, contact sync, G drive, Google duo etc)
Hello
Right, to transfer full WhatsApp you'll need to copy & paste your WhatsApp folder into the Huawei (internal storage) specifically you'll need the "Databases" folder but I would copy the whole WhatsApp folder over so you have your photos, voice notes, videos etc. It's a tiny bit annoying, however, it's the only way to successfully restore your whole WhatsApp history onto the Huawei ?
The experience without google, for me, is really good. Yeah I won't lie, it would be nice to have google services on the mate 40 pro but it's a compromise I'm willing to live in, just need to put in some work to have the dbejxe to my liking. Photo/video/music uploads you can use the MEGA app, simply download it using huaweis Petal search. Contact sync I simply sent all my contacts by bluetooth from my old device to the new hauwei. Or you can back them up on your p30 pro to your Huawei account and download them to your new Huawei. G drive isn't working at all because it's needs gms. I needed g drive for my WhatsApp backup but I had to use the above method I've mentioned google Duo just won't work for now but I use WhatsApp video calls as the best alternative. Gmail doesn't work. But instead of gmail I use Outlook which is a very good email platform. Youtube doesn't work but youtube vanced is the much better alternative (no adverts and had background play)
Thank you for your honest and solid reply.
I am extremely inclinded to this device but the region where I live (Middle East) the whatsapp calls are blocked and we have to rely on Google Duo (personal) & MS Teams for official calls (MS Teams not yet available on App Gallery).
How about launchers (I use Nova launcher)
Honestly speaking, i dont see any other phone which can challenge Mate40 Pro (nor Note 20, niether iPhone 12)
simillar to other apps , several local apps are also not available (Yes we can install via petal search or even other stores but i am not sure they might be dependednt on Google Services)

Chrome works flawless, PowerAmp also but the rest will probably don't work because it needs GMS. Games are a thing for itself some work without GMS and some don't

Can I check with you that the Silky water mode can be used with all 3 rear camera lenses with the Mate 40 Pro? Thanks

Glad you have got 1! I'm deciding on whether too but no GMS is a pain, looking to get the deal from the Huawei Store but i few questions,
As your in the UK do you have any banking apps working?
If you use Spotify and YouTube Vanced can you cast to devices?
What keyboard do you use? I've been a long time gboard user but obviously this will be an issue.
Thanks!

Hi, I updated my mate 40 pro to emu 11 and now magazine unlock is not working anymore. Do you have the same problem?

Does the new EMUI always on display show notification icons for third party apps e.g. Outlook, WhatsApp? Does the MicroG method for getting some third party apps notifications
