and it just has 1 ROM for Nexus 6. I have Nexus 6 for Sprint. Is there only 1 version of the ROM that works for all carriers ?
My old Galaxy S4 has many different builds for Sprint, ATT, Verizon, etc.... wasn't sure if Nexus has the same set up.

I didn't have a locked bootloader with Sprint Galaxy S4. If I were to restore the Nexus 6 back to stock to do an OTA update to update everything, then re-root and put a new custom ROM does the bootloader need to be re-locked, or can the factory .img be suffice to do an OTA ?
I'm still trying to learn how to do this as it is much different than the Samsung GS4. I saw there is a Nexus Toolkit by wug fresh. Is there any benefit to doing these processes by adb vs just using this progra which seems easier ?

you dont use adb for it, you use fastboot. and doung it right vs a toolkit.. toolkits dont teach you anything, and can mess things up.

bootloader can be locked or unlocked, it doesnt matter. but i recommend that you keep it unlocked forever, as it can save your phone in certain situations. and having it locked can be the end of your device, in the same situations.

Ok. That's what I was planning on doing once it becomes unlocked. I was going to have it set like my previous GS4 and just toggle custom ROMs from there. When you mention having it locked, are you referring to when people have re-locked the bootloader then had an error flashing the stock custom ROM thus bricking the phone ? That's what worries me. Looks like the security is more stringent on the new Nexus vs. older versions.

i was actually refering to it because of the unlock setting that has to be ticked to unlock. some stock users got caught in a bootloop, then cant boot up to tick the setting, to fix their bootloop. since it cant get unlocked, their phones are a "brick".

Since the stock rom did not have developer options "checked" then the bootloader can't be unlocked ? How can you tick the OEM unlock if it is in a bootloop ?

Ok that makes sense. What is the purpose of having the bootloader come locked in a stock phone then ? What does it actually do ? Prevents root ? I probably took it for granted mine was always unlocked before so all I had to do was worry about flashing the proper carrier ROM

Security in that if stolen your phone cannot be made to work for someone else...
Someone can (and likely will [emoji14]) correct me if I am wrong... But does little to secure your data...ESPECIALLY if you stay encrypted.

It does nothing to secure data from remote access, but it will protect data (if set with a password) from physical access, providing they do not know the password. The bootloader being unlocked, with no password on encryption would allow them to flash a custom recovery and pull the data off. This will be decrypted on the fly. So it works in conjunction with Encryption. To secure data from physical access, you need both.
IF your bootloader is unlocked and you have no password, you may aswell not be encrypted
Hi! When I got my R1 HD, I wanted to get Lineage OS and TWRP. I tried everything including:
adb "fastboot oem unlock",
SP Flash Tool, and
DirtyCow R1-HD Tool,
yet I found no luck. Does anybody know how to get an unlocked bootloader and TWRP on an R1 HD v21? Thanks!:good:

My "Custom build version" is:
BLU_R0011UU_V21_GENERIC. Also, this is not the Amazon Prime variant, however I got this from Amazon (for example: I get no ads).
Sorry to tell you, but version 21 of the ROM cannot be bootloader unlocked or rooted. The more recent updates have secured the phone so that none of the previous methods you mention work anymore. The phone is no longer being manufactured and Blu does not provide a process for unlocking the bootloader as some other companies, like Motorola, do. So even though you paid more to get the no ad version, you can't root it. 8-( This was only possible in the earlier versions of both the amaon and non-amazon models.

no, the signed updates are incremental so, the checksum verification will pervent flashing old version

No, sorry - there is no known way to root or flash modified software after the phone has been upgraded with factory software. You can't go back. And, even if you could, it wouldn't help - it still couldn't be rooted or flash a modified ROM. Blu does not offer to unlock bootloaders the way some companies, like Motorola, do. Your phone is stuck with what you have now.
The best thing to do now? Enjoy your cheap android phone with great performance for the price!

Well, is there at least a way to skin the phone (ex: change bootanimation, remove bloatware (Yes, there is still bloatware apps, and I'm talking REMOVE the apps, no uninstall for user only), remove the Adups spyware) so that it is just like stock Android?

No - all those things require root, which you can't get. Only the phones that were shipped with earlier versions of the ROM and hadn't been updated over-the-air could be unlocked and rooted.

I've been trying to install TWRP (and then Lineage) but I'm having zero luck with SPFlash. I've tried on a couple of computers and followed the directions step by step. Am I missing something here?

If that dosent work you can also follow the below procedure.
Relock your bootloader. Your phone will factory reset and boot. Then head to developer options and you will see oem unlock is not greyed out. Then just enable oem unlocking and unlock the bootloader. When you boot up again you will see that oem is greyed out but it'll be enabled. So you'll have unlocked fastboot and unlocked frp now.

Everything fine. I believe it's completely safe if you have complete stock firmware installed ie, stock rom, stock recovery, stock Kernal and all that stuff. Otherwise you'll end up in a loop. Guess I forgot that part sorry.

Hey will it work if I have complete stock firmware like you said? I want to take my device to service centre but my bootloader is unlocked and I have L OS installed. Will relockeing bootloader get me back my waranty?

Some if not all bootloaders nowadays are not "locked" by the manufacturer using a code but are usually "locked" by employing a digital signature and/or a CID (carrier Id) hard coded into the OS. When we "unlock" a bootloader with a code we are simply using a routine written into the loader by the manufacturer to now ignore signatures and/or CIDs of the OS and this allows us to flash whatever we wish.
Sometimes upon unlocking using a code the DS/CID is erased/altered and cannot be retrieved, so not a good idea to relock an altered bootloader.
At least, that is my understanding of it.

Not necessarily, I doubt if most service centres would bother delving that deep, but maybe some would.

As we all know the development of our device isin't going great because of the Huawei decision to stop bootloader unlocking but we have a developer who is ready to work on our device And he already successfully ported the twrp for our device which is available in the development section but future development is halted because of the lack of the required files which can only be obtained from the devices with a root access which is only possible with unlocked bootloader .So anyone who has an unlocked bootloader and want to contribute in the future development of Honor play, please! ping me or drop down a comment or a reply below.

please check in develop menu,that "enable oem unlock" switch active or inactive... if inactive, you and other people can't open bootloader...

Actually we need people with unlocked bootloader and yeah it's available for me and i think only Chinese varient of the phone can't be unlocked. Cuz Indian varient still have this option even after updating to emui 9.

The option disappeared for me too. I checked after updating to .157 build
I'm 156 and it is blocked.

yes,but if the switch is inactive it cannot be enabled... see attached picture, inactive the "enable oem unlock" switch on my phone... if you can't turn it on, you can't enable opening,if there is any code, then... if this switch is active, then approving bootloader opening/unlocking... but have unlock code, but switch is inactive, cannot open bootloader with code...

@asser19 why is it not possible to open it now? if you want to modify your system, buy a phone that is less secure, huawei/honor is now a safer mobile phone that can not be opened and can not be rooted, this is not a problem

yes, legitimate, but modification can cause damage to motherboard, which would be replaced by a warranty, thus causing damage to the manufacturer, not due to improper use, therefore, to prevent this, the manufacturer may block system modification

No I use the app from my own bank to pay with nfc, but I don't think Google pay can block oem it would be really strange
For all those guys who has upgraded to pie And oem unlock is not available, i suggest you to downgrade to oreo via hisuite(yes the option is available now in hisuite) and then enable oem unlock cuz it's available in oreo and then upgrade to pie again.

i try, not anymore show hisuite to downgrade previous version... i update to first public release pie, hisuite show downgrading, i install january update, downgrade function disappeared

I mean i'm on a locked bootloader now cos of the crap i installed which updated me to 9.1, it relocked the bootloader, I can turn on OEM unlocking (FRP) but obviously it remains unlocked.
Would there be a way to repackage a firmware package so that it does the opposite to re-locking?
I think everyone has pretty much given up on Huawei devices, I was just trying to disable zRAM and i can't.

Nope! DLOAD re-lock bootloader to factory condition, but there's no way to unlock the bootloader with it.
I don't think Huawei will give you the unlock code a second time, but maybe you will be lucky, who knows.
Maybe you can retrieve it from an email from them!?
Edit: You can download your HuaweiID data from Settings - > HuaweiID - > Privacy Center but i doubt you will get the bootloader code from there

I've spoke with them, they said they've not heard of a situation like this.
Bare in mind that this is information that has been passed to me before. Which is a correspondence, they are obligated to provide it regardless.
I don't believe it was in an email and I've checked all accounts
