VOOC and DASH Charging Accessories

Based on early reviews of OPPO's VOOC which is the OP Dash charging system, this seems far superior to any QC or even iPhone charging system on the market. By taking the heat out to the actual charger block @ around 20 watts over 7pins it is faster and cooler than QC2.0 and cooler than Moto's QC2.0+.

I would like to categorize what is available on the market for Dash/VOOC.

Oppo doesn't use USB C to my knowledge. But valid point.

60% in 30 minutes, awesome. Since I have several QC chargers at home, it will be interesting how slow charging will be with those.
I really want the Dash car charger, but €45 (charger+cable) is a bit steep IMO.
Edit: according to their AMA, there will be no licensed dash chargers. So we'll have to get the expensive ones from OnePlus. Fair enough.

Im hoping all my QC chargers will work fine as well (expecting around 1:45 to get close to fully charged), ill be swapping between a G5 and the OP3 and do not really want to have to keep changing chargers

Its 100% secure you can use the Oppo chargers and works like Dash?

They are not interchangeable as far as quick charging goes
QC2.0 wall charger will drip charge the OP3
Dash/VOOC wall charger will drip charge the G5
Where Drip Charge = the 2.1amp limit of the cable.

Yeap, that is what I am hoping it does. 2amp is sufficient enough when I swap phones. Once I pick the DD i'll use their respective quickcharge adapter

Is there a adapter that works for oppos microusb vooc charger to usb-c dash charging. That would have been great since I already have 4 VOOC chargers but the cable is non removable from the charger.

DASH is a technology from OPPO just like VOOC .
They (DASH/VOOC) are just different brand.

They are the same thing, but the specification allows authentication of the components. The question is, did they lock out VOOC in Dash?

Well all of VOOC is USB micro for now. So it is physically locked out, but I think you could use the actual charger block with a DASH cable.

Also hope that VOOC Charger will work with DASH.
But since the OP3 started to arrive at customers, maybe someone can test it?
I'm really interested in the car charger and the VOOC bank.. specially if the cable on the bank is swappable

Third party cables actually don't work with DASH.. if think it needs time..

Tested the oneplus 2 1.5m USB C and it's not working with DASH charging.. It did charge but not at fast speeds.

Is what I found on Amazon for the best price at the time. Yes the car charger does Super Charge.

You need 5A Charger and cable for the supercharge (or at least something near)

Does 2.4A work, too.? Of course with slower charging rates but using the whole 2.4A? Want to use it with a supercharge cable.

Yes. It will work, I currently use an Anker charger. It's just a bit slower than Supercharge.

Has anyone found an adaptor that allows 3.5mm jack for audio and USB C for charging that supports fast charging at all? Even 2.4a would be ok. I have found one online from flosmall that claims 2a, but I don't know if that's really enough. I regularly run Waze and listen to podcasts (downloaded) or Spotify (streaming) and the adaptor I got off eBay charges really, really slow. I also need a new car charger, so the responses in this thread have already been helpful on that front.

I got myself original Huawei AP38 car charger and it came with cable in package. Works absolutely like a charm and it is well worth the money. No difference from wall charger in terms of charging speed

There are plenty usb cables that work with supercharge just look for one that supports 5A current. I have a very long one close to 2m/6ft, works very well with huawei car charger and normal charger
The thing with supercharge and the cables is that most chargin technologies require a maximum of 2 or 3A. Up to 3A is a usb standard so all usb cables support that. A higher current is usually never needed because standard usb protocols dont support it. 5A current requires a different structure of the cable. And since supercharge uses up to 5A current we need to get special cables.

Can we charge S21U with 40W chargers? They are a lot chargers like Huawei, Xiaomi and etc... with 40W and more.

I believe the answer is yes - or at least probably. Most of those newer chargers are "Smart" in that they only provide the volts and amps that are needed by the device being charged. I may be wrong about that, but I don't think so - I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Pretty sure you can, I use a 45 watt "smart" charger on my NOTE 20 Ultra without any issue.

You can use any charger that supports PD (power delivery), AFC or QC2.0
Any 45 watt USBC charger out there is going to be PD standard so you'll be fine.
The downside is, it'll still only charge at 25 watts.

I am charging my s21U with an 40w charger, works without problem. not using 40 watts of course, but its working.

The phone, all phones in fact, will ONLY charge at it's highest speed the phone allows itself to receive, the charger doesn't matter, it can be lower or higher than what the device is recommended for. A lower power charger will just take longer to charge the phone, a higher power charger will just not charge at it's full power if the phone won't accept the full power from the charger.
I've been using the 90w charger from my HP Spectre X360 my S20 Ultra since I got it without a single issue, I still get about 2 days of use per charge on that thing, and now I've been using the same laptop charger on the S21 Ultra and it works just fine.
The phone fast charges normally, doesn't get super hot, works just fine, and I only need to keep laptop chargers around the house, it's great haha

I have a 45W USB-C PD port as part of an Anker PowerPort and also the 18W charger that came with my Pixel 5. Would I notice much of an improvement in charging speed or integrity/longevity of the battery by purchasing Samsung's 25W charger?

That's the charger I've been using w/ S21Ultra (25W from N10+) and I figured out I won't be needing anything bigger then that. Thanks to Samsung 'super fast charging' the 5Ah battery on s21U charges faster then 3.8mA Pixel 4a5G battery(with the same charger). +/- 1 hour and done!

Question adaptors other than stock to charge rapidly

I have noticed that my stockpile of "fast" chargers I have acquired and used with my LG G8 do not enable the "charging rapidly" notification I get on the Pixel 5a.
Do I need to purchase a new set of USB-PD chargers for car & a/c outlet in order to achieve the fastest charging.
My current quick charge 3.0 adaptors make this phone say "charging" and not "rapidly"

Probably. If your current chargers don't support PD then you won't charge at max speeds. And if your current chargers are using USB-a, meaning you need a USB-a to USB-c cable you're definitely not fast charging.
I can recommend Anker products. The Nano pro is a sweet tiny charger.

I have anker products already however they are using the older type-A connection. its a shame that google will only allow rapid charging via USB-PD spec and not the older QC-QC3.0 spec.

Considering that the 5a is only capable of charging at a maximum of 18W (9Vx2A) I am pretty sure the USB-A to USB-C cable will work, if you can find a PD charger that uses USB-A. The reality is that you will probably need to buy a PD car charger, and a USB-C to USB-C cable. I'm in the same boat. There are quite a few options, with PD and QC and 2.1A/2.4A USB charging all in a single charger, on Amazon and the usual suspects. I think the real disappointment is that the 5a only charges at 18W. The upside is that the phone not only has a huge battery but it has adaptive charging so will slow charge overnight - fast charging being bad for battery life.
You should look for a USB-C "charging" cable. Charging cables have larger wires for lower loss in the cable, but also are often USB 2 speeds for data, which is fine for dedicated charging use. It is also possible to find USB 3 charging cables. There are a number of different USB-C cables out there, including special ones with an IC to support Thunderbolt. Be sure to mark the capability of each one you buy. It is a bit of a mess.
Quick Charge works well but is not strictly consistent with the USB spec (although it does not interfere with USB operation). IIRC QC uses analog voltage levels on the signal lines to control the supply voltage. IIUC PD uses a digital handshake. I for one have been happy with QC but am glad to move to PD for phone and eventually laptop and tablet. Recent announcements extend PD from today's 100W max up to 240W max.

I woke up the other night because of a thunderstorm and noticed my phone was already at 100% 5 hours before my alarm was set to go off. Another night I woke up to use the bathroom, around 3 hours after I had went to sleep and plugged in phone, verified it said adaptive initially and now it said rapidly! Why would a phone switch to rapidly charging in the middle of the night. I might just dig out an OLD slow charger brick from the basement cave to prevent this overnight mystery from a gimmick feature.
Will post back when I acquire a car charger capable of "rapid" charging which 18w seems plenty fast to me for most road trips.

I actually have a car charger that triggers the 'Charging rapidly' notification. I would link to it at Amazon, but I bought over a year ago and it appears they no longer have that item in their stock. You need to make sure on those that they have a USB-C port on them labeled "PD3.0" or I believe that makes them incompatible. The search term I used there was

The 5a uses a USB-PD 2.0 charge protocol, not PD 3.0. Any USB-PD charger should work, as there were very few v1 devices ever made. When buying a car charger I recommend a charger with at least two ports: a PD charge port (USB-C) and a QC charge port (USB-A). The latest ones will support PD 2/3, PD 3 PPS, and QC 4 (and even 4+ and 5) on the USB-C port, and QC 2/3 plus several other protocols with the USB-A port. That pretty much covers the great majority of smart phones. I just bought a three port (2xUSB-C, 1xUSB-A) car charger. The USB-C ports are identical except that one is 30W (for phones) and the other is 100W (for laptops and tablets, or another phone). Note that increasingly new devices are requiring the PD 3.0 PPS, and there are fewer chargers available that support that. Also, higher power charging requires a special cable with a supporting IC inside so I ordered the package that included charger and cable.

As has been stated, a USB-C Power Delivery compliant charger is required to charge at the maximum 18 watt rate.
Power Delivery is a USB-IF standard, whereas Quick Charge is a Qualcomm proprietary standard.

Question Superfast charging + emark cables -- are they needed?

So I have a 45W charger, thinking about purchasing a 65W charger. I know The Tab S8 Plus only goes to 45W.
My question: are there any advantages to using an emark enabled cable?
I'm getting super fast charge notice with a 60W cable, no emark.
In my google searches, someone mentioned you can get "super fact charging 2.0" if you use an emark cable. Other pages said you only need emark above 60W. I found this comment on one site "... the Samsung Note 10+ or S20 Ultra which supports 45W fast charging. With these devices, the maximum electrical current is 4A, therefore it also requires a 5A cable with E-Mark. "
Does anyone know the ins and outs of this?

Get the recommended Samsung OEM brick and use the cable that comes with it. For the N10+ the 25w brick/cable fast charges fine and lasts for years if you don't roll up the cable.
Charging issues are hard to troubleshoot and non OEM bricks/cables only add to that burden.
At $20 a pop the 25w brick/cable is a no brainer.

So I have managed to answer my own question:
With a normal 3.1A US0b-C to USB-C cable, my 45W power supply is throttled back to 25W. It is reported as "Superfast Charge" mode by the tablet. Using Ampere, it reports that the battery is being charged at 5A at 4.2V --~ 21W
I bought a 100W E-Mark cable, and it now reports "Superfast Charge 2.0" -- and now Ampere reports it has bumped up to 7.5A at 4.36 V. So it is bumped up to 32W. Still not seeing 45W, though.
So it would seem to be charging 50% faster with the new cable.
