Is it best to buy Exynos phones from now on? - Samsung Galaxy S10 Questions & Answers

Seems that only Exynos phone bootloaders are unlockable now unless it's an older bootloader. At least on Samsung phones. Is that more or less correct? Is it best to try buy Exynos phones now if we want to put on custom ROMs?
I am asking about all Samsung phones in general but I didn't see a Q&A section for all Samsung phones.

Hello, I think a rule on all forums to say Hello then do a search because your subject is already on the XDA forum.

[Q] Differences between Xperia models

ok so as per rules I've searched for a thread about this but didn't turn up anything so here goes.
I just had my old phone (Atrix2 AT&T) brick on me so I'm looking to replace it. I've got my eye on the Xperia TL also by AT&T and naturally came here to XDA to see what everyone had to say. What I wasn't counting on when I first looked into the phone however was the plethora of models, even the forum here is devoted to 4 models.
Simply put what are the differences between the various models? From my online research the T is the older model with the TL being the slight upgrade (though not in battery life, confirm or deny?) the TX being the Verizon version and the V being the "active" or waterproof version.
Is all of this correct? If so what does it mean for development? Do I need a different root/flash method for each? I've seen posts detailing how methods that work on the T model won't work with TL but is this due to the upgrade or inherent differences between all four models?
Again I'm sorry if I failed to find thread that answers all of these questions completely but I'm rather surprised that I couldn't.... Many thanks XDA

910F missing develoment/Roms compared to Tmobile veriant

Hey,
if you take a quick look at the T-mobile forums you'll see that development flourish and is really amazing there- there are more ROMS/Kernels/and development in general then there is on 910F/G/U COMBINED.
Now i'll be referring specifically to the the International/910F veriant-because it has the exact same SoC as the T-mobile version.. and from my quick research it has the exact same hardware as well, fully.(including same supported frequencies, etc). For those of us that are not devs(which I can imagine are the absolut most of the users here/on these forums) - this is extremely annoying , as we all bought the phone and came to XDA to enjoy the amazing things people do with it. I'ts only numbers which doesn't necessarily mean anything but just for a quick comparison, just to see what I'm talking about- the T-mobile ''android development'' forums has as of right now 34 threads and 18,761 posts compared to 21 threads and 3,642 Posts on our ''International'' version.. which is insane bc this its the same phone just only under a carrier brand, and we can't enjoy any of it.
The thing is, what can we do about it? can't there be a way(for both sides- 910F/T-mobile) to flash one another ROMS/Mods? and why does Samsung make an insane amount of models for the same phone? if its modem related then it doesn't make sense as some models have the same frequencies supported.
as I said, I feel cheated, and annoyed. not only there was the annoyance of having two SoCs- exynos and SD and practically splitting the userbase, now there's even more verients under the same SoC and splitting the userbase even more.
I feel like it was a mistake buying a samsung phone.
I agree with you. It's annoying. Some roms from t-mobile note 4 are excellent
Just my opinion, but if it have same hardware, I'm sure you can use them..
My country got the the lowest variants, 910H. Do you able to see development thread for it ? Only 1 custom rom as far as I remember, and the devs already change his phone to other variants.
So we owner of 910H variants just experimenting with 910C based rom because they have identical hardware (same exynos SoC, in fact same modem hardware which samsung said have difference in that area), and it's work, and we also got LTE capabilities which is blocked with official 910H rom.
Once again, if it have 100% identical hardware, I'll say it will work
Trade you my 910w8 for the 910F

Which version have the best performance and support

Hi
I'm going to buy the new Galaxy Note 8, the version in my country is dual sim N950F/DS (Exynos)
I'm a big fan of Snapdragon processors, and i like to change my phone roms and mod it.. So is Exynos version will be enough for me?
Or Snapdragon version will be the best choice!
So i was wondering if anyone can help me to choose the best model i can be happy with
@virus_egypt
I have owned both a Snapdragon and Exynos Note 8. I sold my Snapdragon because I wanted root and have no regrets.
If you take a quick look at the Development threads, you're going to see that Exynos is the preferred choice given that it has an unlocked bootloader out of the box.
Therefore custom development will be more frequent.
So if you want to root, mod, or flash custom development contributions, go for a Exynos.
I'm positive with SamFAIL being released for Snapdragon devices, you will eventually see an evolution in development but potentially not as much enthusiasm.
Please feel free to add on.

Snapdragon or Exynos? For the best Dev Supports!

Hi guys,
Coming from an Exynos Note 5, I'm about to upgrade to Note 8. As always, I root and flash custom rom to my phone all the times, since I cannot stand the stock rom.
Now, I have this obvious question that a lot of note 8 noobies like me might have - which model will have the best dev supports?
Snapdragon or Exynos based devices??
millions of thanks in advance.
Several people have asked the same question here - you may want to search next time. The short version is that outside North America and Hong Kong, the Note 8 models are all Exynos, and those are easier to mod due to unlocked bootloader. The Snapdragon version does have a root method now, but per history the Snapdragon versions never have as much development as the Exynos versions.
Thank you!
I will search more thoroughly next time. Exynos versions it is then.
I think they use snapdragon in chinese market too.

No Root For N960U and N960U1?

Hi!
I want to ask. And forgive my question. Some possibility of root Note 9 N960U & N960U1?
I know that many here are bothered by these types of questions.

It is not available, and there is a high probability that it never will be available.
For example there is still no root for S9/S9+ in U version.

Thanks for answer. If the USA version It is so complicated to root, then I will buy exynos version. Personally I like the devices that I can have control and rooted.
We are bothered by the questions because it seems like every person creating a new thread asking about it seems like they will get a different answer if they create their own thread about it.

I asked because I have not seen a thread with that question. But, my apologies if they bother here to.
In my case, and where I work, it has never bothered me that they ask me the same thing, because I like to help people.
Thanks!
As far as I now, S9 and S9+ snapdragon versions are still not rooted.
There is at least 1 guy searching for root but so far, no progress.
So, maybe s845 Note 9 will get root someday but don't have high hopes about that and if root really matter to you, I will advise you to buy another phone.
I strongly advise buying the exynos version now, or buying another device if updates and such will be a big deal. I had the same concerns, this is my first unrooted Android device I am considering purchasing, and I have to make the decision based on what is most probable, root not being an option. Otherwise, you'll be pissed the entire time you have the device that you let yourself fall into the hope trap.

I will wait few months, as it happened with note 8, that a root for the snapdragon came out, if the root does not come out with note 9 snapdragon, I follow your advice and buy the version with Exynos. Thanks! ?
I do not know, but with so much developer here in XDA and other forums; there must be some way to unlock the bootloader. Or is have to pay for it, or beg of carrier companies??

I asked the OP of that thread a month ago and he confirmed that that root method can not be done on the S9, S9+ or NOTE9, which means that the device will most likely never be rooted, unless Samsung suddenly, randomly, allows for the bootloader to be unlocked.
I upgraded to the Snapdragon Note9 anyway though myself. I found that I didn't really miss root all that much on my Note8 and didn't want my battery on my new phone to only charge to 80% by using SamFAIL, so I just got the non-carrier branded one this time to cut down on some of the bloat. I could've went Exynos, but in the past I'd mainly only used root to put other roms on the device and maybe clear out some space, but the Note9 comes with 128gb internal minimum with the potential of an up to 512gb sd card, which is plenty of space for me to just disable a few apps. Most of the roms too most often didn't have the air command features for the spen(or most of the other functionality that Samsung devices are supposed to have) and the pen is why I buy the Notes in the first place. The ones that did try and incorporate those features(including the Touchwiz roms) always still had other problems too, so I most often found myself going back to stock anyway.
Frankly, it's just been nice having a device where Samsung Pay and everything else just works. I've had the unrootable Snapdragon Note9 for a month now and I love it. It has tons of features that the Note8 didn't have, like an spen that works as a wireless bluetooth remote for your camera, music and other apps, as well as more space, a better battery and more. That's just my take though.

Not so much bothered by questions (even if they have been asked 100 times over like this one lol) more so people refuse to use the search function.
If you had of done so you wouldn't have needed to even ask.
Dont be afraid to try and help yourself sometimes, its not that painful.
But yeah as the guys said....never going to happen
I took the advice of several users of the forum, I bought the note version exynos. And I did not break the my Head, Waiting for someone to get Root the Note 9 USA Version
The other note 9 I want to sell it by ebay or by Swppa.

The USA version is never going to see root.
I didn't understand what you said about the exynos other than your selling it? Why?

Carrier companies do not have control over bootloader locks. I have tried going through them in the past about this and they have no clue what you are talking about unless you get lucky and get a person that knows about root and even if that does happen they can't and won't help you with it. It has to be done by manufacturers.

Have you considered the N9600, international version? It has the SD845 processor (like the U and U1) and root/TWRP are already available. Knox gets tripped, of course, but that only negates Samsung Pay and a couple others.
Just having a little trouble locating units for sale (at good prices) here on mainland US.
Forgetting N960U and N960U1! I bought N960N!! And my problem resolved! Finally I got root!! ?

Just to figure out my info on versions is correct... I thought N9600 (with Snapdragon) is the Hong Kong version (i.e. not "international" or "global"), and N960F (with Exynos) is for "global"/europe (although it seems to have different band lists for UK). (I'm not considering rootability etc., just the target market / naming.)

So the 960F model has different radio / bands for UK market compared to the 960F sold in mainland Europe? I doubt it.

Personally, I have no idea. I read it on this page: https://www.techwalls.com/samsung-galaxy-note-9-sm-n960-model-number-differences/
I found another list (much shorter one) that does not have separate entry for UK. Maybe the longer list simply lists bands that are active in the region (e.g. if there are bands in use in UK that aren't used elsewhere in europe even if the phone would support them).
Not relevant to this topic (rooting U/U1), though, I just noted it for the peculiarity of seeing that difference for the same model code.

Personally how I verify bands used it to go to samsungs website for that country to check specs for a particular model number.
