Has anyone figured out an efficient way to do this? The Bixby remapper apps in the app store seem to be for older generation devices and don't work properly.

Download SideActions on apk mirror, it is an app only for Samsungs and is not yet officially supported for S23, but it is fully functional. (that's why it's not on gplay)

Is there a specific reason you are avoiding GoodLock and RegiStar (On Galaxy Store)?
These AFAIK are official Samsung Apps and work without any issues.

I can't remap the volume buttons via the RegiStar. That's why I use SideActions.
Makes sense.
A combination of both apps does not work?
RegiStar only overwrites and overrules the "long press" action only.
Double press is still controled by the normal settings options
Backtap is probably worthless for you too, because AFAIK the device needs to be unlocked before you can use that Feature...
It definitely works, but I don't see the reason to use 2 applications when 1 can do it

Just tried it and the volume keys actions are pretty cool, but the power key isn't working after following the instructions. Any idea? Thanks!
Nevermind, working now!
Is Goodlock from Samsung? Dev is registered as Goodlock. Saw they have many different little apps.
I'm looking to have more option from side buttons than open camera ^^
You need to setup Bixby first.
I use double press for flashlight (settings/advanced features/side key/double press) and press and hold for open camera(by SideActions)

Yea I guess SideActions can solve this lack of default option. I had Press and hold for power off menu and double press for camera. Is SideActions granting you access to custom Vol+/Vol- shortcurt ?
Maybe I'm a bit stupid, but nothing in this thread has worked for me.
End goal:
I. Long press the power button - Power menu
II. Double tap - Google Assistant.
What I've tried:
1. stock - can't get google assistant on double tap, only "google app"
2. RegiStar - only has setting for long press and nothing for double tap.
3. SideActions - Even after PC setup, double tap action doesn't seems to work. (free version)
What did work:
I used "Bixby Button Assistant Remapper", the first option in this article.
Hope this help someone.

I'm trying it right now and I also like the back-tap feature.
Since there are options to disable it on energy saving mode and on low battery, did you notice additional battery drain when using this app compared to before?

Dear All,
is there anyway we can make the ok button to close the applications instead of minimizing it.
Go to "settings">"system">"task manager">"button" and make your choice.

sorry i was not clear, i mean the hardware button, not the one with the task manager.
I'd like this, too.
If you tap the X on the screen with your finger or stylus, it closes the app. If you press the OK button (much easier), the app keeps running
If you don't have it, AE Button Plus is a must have app. You can assign multi functions to every button. I have OK set to close, Plus double tap and tripple tap options to launch some apps.
I use AE button plus, and like it. But if all you need to do is close an app, you can do it with the phone completely stock just by clicking the end call button.

You could try VJOkButt ,the author used to be very active on these boards, mapped to buton 4. I have not tried this on my Kaiser. It worked well on my Wizard but eventually got replaced by SmartsKey.

I'm sorry, you're right. I had used that a few times before I loaded AE button, and my recollection was that it closed them. I see now that it just brings you back to the home screen. In that case, AE button is a good choice to accomplish what you want. And you can keep the stock functionality of the ok button, and put close on a double-click, or click-hold if you like.
Thanks alot for all your contributions, i will give it a try.
I wrote a MortScript that uses the MouseClick command to click in the upper right-hand corner, and then used AEBPlus to map the OK button to it. I had to map it to one of AE's virtual buttons first and then make the change in the standard Settings | Buttons.

If you already have AEBPlus, you don't have to do all that. It has a "close active application" command built in. You simply map whatever you want to that. I have it mapped to a press-hold of the OK button.

True, but I also use the script for other context-sensitive commands depending on the program (I use the same side OK button for "back" in PIE). Call me crazy.

If you have AEBPlus installed, you simply run it, select the button you want to change (in this case, button 4 is the OK button), click in the box down below the button selection, then in the first drop-down you tell it you want that button handled by AEBPlus, and in the second drop-down you select what type of keypress you want to assign (in this case, single press), and in the third drop-down, you select what you want a single press to do (in this case, "OK/Close", then go back to the second drop down and select "long press", and then back to the thrid drop-down and tell it what you want to do for a long press (in this case, "close active application"). Then just exit AEBPlus.
Thank you both (dscline & panosha) for the info !

Hey everyone,
I saw how people are suffering to change key behaviours for their S6 device, so I created an tool app that makes that easy.
Just launch the app, select a button, reassign any action and let the app restart the device for you.
Remember: You need root for that.
You can assign many new behaviours to your buttons, like:
Code:
[B]"NOTHING"
"APP_SWITCH"
"MENU"
"POWER"
"HOME"
"BACK"
"VOLUME_DOWN"
"VOLUME_UP"
"CAMERA"
"SEARCH"
"BRIGHTNESS_DOWN"
"BRIGHTNESS_UP"
"CALL"
"FOCUS"
"CALCULATOR"
"MEDIA_PREVIOUS"
"MEDIA_NEXT"
"PAGE_UP"
"PAGE_DOWN"
"CONTACTS"
"MESSAGE"
"ENDCALL"
"VOLUME_MUTE"
"SLEEP"
"WAKEUP"
"MUSIC"[/B]
If anything goes wrong, you can everytime restore the default, by clicking the big button on the app.
You can even assign the brightness to your volumebuttons, it you want so. Samsung supports it fully.
Here is a screenshot with the app running, and a volume button acting as a brightness changer:

Mod Edit: DL link removed at OP request.
If should work on any S6 variants, probably even S5 and earlier....
But the design is exclusively for our S6
Try it out and hit thanks, if it helped you

very useful app , thanks alot but please add a longpress action option
Any plans to add long press actions? Thanks
Excellent, been looking for something like this for a while since All in One Gestures never worked right for me and don't want to install the alliance framework just to remap the buttons.
I also second that adding long press as an option would be great and on top of that if possible I would love to see the possibility to re-assign the volume buttons to always change media volume by default, instead of ringer volume.
Super!!!!

Hi, everyone. There was already a thread like this, but it's locked, and all the links have been removed, so I have to open a new one. I live in China, currently. I'm on the stock rom, unrooted, chinese one, and even though I've done a basic research, I can't succeed to enable this option on my phone. it's miui8.5, nougat 7.1.1, there are no Developer options in my Additional settings (or anywhere, cross my heart), and, as far as the Button Mapper app is concerned, I have no use of that, as I can't add Paypal to my Google play account, because it's registered in China (paypal), I use vpn (in order to be able to approach google at all), so the country of my order differs from the country my Paypal registration (because of vpn servers), and there's always an error, saying that. Of course, if I turn off my vpn, I won't be able to approach to playstore at all. And I need Button Mapper Pro in order to enable this, so that means - inapp purchase, which I can't do. So, my question is - is there another way (other than google play store) to buy Button Mapper Pro with Paypal, or, is there a way to set this without button mapper app (I don't want to root the phone, installed everythng I need on it, works fine in English with google play services)? Thank you
nevermind, I found the solution. thanks anyways, cheers

Split screen comes with MIUI 9, but thanks for sharing the solution with us...
Well, considering that no one ever replied, I thought it was some basic problem and everyone knows how to solve it, which is why no one wanted to bother to reply. That was my conclusion. If still interested, here's how - go to settings, option About phone, find MIUI section, and tap few times on MIUI version, that's how you unlock Developer options in Additional settings. Than, go to Additional Settings, Developer Options, scroll to the option Force activities to be resizable, and switch it ON. After that, go to Google Play Store, download the app Button Mapper, you don't have to pay for Pro, just download the basic one. Install it, and give necessary accessibility to the app (you will be prompted for that). Than go to the app menu, click on Home button, enable Customize option, then scroll down to Long press option, press it, and on it's option choose Split screen. And that's it, The middle button of your phone (3 buttons on the bottom of the screen) will now make the app you're using customizable size, you just enter the app first, than long press that button, go up with your finger without lifting it away from the screen, and that's how you choose the size of the first app on your screen. The second one you open will take the rest of the screen's space

Does the splitscreen works the same as in MIUI 9 ? l like the stock factory version which was the v8.5.5.0 but sadly there's no splitscreen support. Updated to the latest v9.2.1.0 but I'm disappointed with the battery life...if the splitscreen works the same as in the MIUI 9, I'm gonna downgrade back to v8.5.5.0 and apply the steps you mentioned above.

I have long-press set to turn off screen, but GA takes over. I see in the permission for the Google App, that it has permissions to access fingerprint scanner - but it is not something that can be toggled off.
I am using a Moto X4, recently on the stock rom with the feature to turn off screen with fingerprint scanner.

I think (emphasis on think) There's a way to do what you want but it can't be spoken of here and out not sure if it'd work anyways.
There's no way for you to remove assistant totally from the device? Like tbpro or some other debloater method?
Everybody went crazy trying to get it to run before widespread use across devices occurred so I'm wondering if that may lead you to a way to get it out of your way totally.
Don't have your device so can't speak on it specifically

Thanks. It is integrated into the Google app, which I actually want. There was a property that needed to be modified when it first rolled out to enable it, but now Google is no longer looking at that property apparently.
Update: As a test, i uninstalled it with Titanium Backup, but still did not have my button back...

There are three ways to do this:
1. Modifying the frameworks base of your system (decompiling and recompiling the apk)
2. Modyifing the fingerprint's keylayout of your device (to tell the system to not use the fingerprint as home button)
3. Delete Google, LoL
These methods are not optimal for a Magisk module.

Thanks for the feedback!
I think I will stick with my double-tap to turn off screen.
I tried uninstalling Google (with TB), but then my long-press home was not detected. (I am using fingerprint as home), even though long-press home is assigned to turn screen off.
Kind of cruddy that even though you turn off assistant in Google setting, it doesn't respect your preference, prompting you to turn it on.

Hey there,
is there a way, to remove the behavior that a long press on the power-button first starts the google assistant instead of getting directly to the "power menu"? I've tried to disable it in the settings which gives me then the option to activate the assistant and unless we gain root, i assume all the bloatware can't be uninstalled
Would another Launcher (https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony-themes-apps/app-xperia-home-10-0-0-40-t3369220) fix it?
Edit:
In the System Settings under "Intelligent Support" (or something like that) there you have "Shortcuts and gestures" there you can disable this behaviour.
Best regards
Seel

You're welcome! Unfortunately you have to press the Power Button really long until the Power-Menu is seen... but this is a first world problem But atleast the Google Assistant isn't nagging around...
Anyone know of a way to remap this functionality? Eg, get holding power button to open the camera instead? I know there's the double-tap volume down shortcut, but that only works when the screen is locked and if no media is playing.
Yes, You can customize Volume button on long press behavior for example with button mapper app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton . I'm using this app to remap Netflix button on my Android powered TV's remote control and here on P30 Pro to launch camera app.

On the subject of Google Assistant, can anyone confirm this bug on their device?
Place phone in airplane mode, 'accidentally' activate Google Assistant, screen will stay on forever. I noticed this as I often leave my phone face down and plugged in on the side (it's my second device) and I came down one morning to find the screen lit. I'd obviously activated assistant by catching the power button. Luckily I don't seem to have any screen burn.
No Launchers do not change power button settings
