Is there a solution to enable Wifi hotspot while being connected to Wifi - creating a wifi bridge? The Fastconnect 6800 can do it as it has dual wifi- and any other flagship I know can do it (Oneplus 11 only on another frequency on CN OS, while 5g/5g is possible with Global OS.
Is this just another damn limitation of Origin OS/this phone?
Juat enable personal hotspot while u are connected to a wifi it will work
No it switches off wifi! In the other direction even a notice pops up that it isn't possible

Hmm, very strange. Must be some setting then? Just which/what...
Do you get that warning that I show above when having hotspot enabled and trying to torn on wifi? Meaning for you it would only be possible to activate hotspot when wifi is on, but can you activate wifi when hotspot (mobile data hotspot) is on?
BTW can you enable "Data Network Acceleartion"? That point exists in my phone - and it tells me I cannot activate it while roaming - but I'm not roaming (though I do use a virtual network provider - so that may be part of the problem - meaning the vivo gets this wrong - I remember in very early Android versions virtual network providers meand you need to enable roaming)

If I turn wifi off and enable hotspot, it comes up with a message asking if I want to enable Wifi to use that to tether.
And no, I cannot enable Data Network Acceleration (I have roaming enabled and I am not using a virtual network provider.
Oh I was blind, didn't find the setting "allow WiFi network tethering" which was off. Enabling it enabled the bridge mode.
I wonder if the data network acceleration only works in China or if it's incompatible with virtual network providers or what's the deal there.

When I connect my 8925 via USB, ActiveSync creates a LAN connection (under My Network Places \ Properties) and this hoses my PC's network connection.
Anyone have a fix for this?
What do you mean by "hoses"? Be a little more specific with details and I'll try to help.
BTW, the LAN connection that Active sync creates is normal.
Once I connect my 8925 I can no longer get to the Internet with anything in XP. Seems like WM6 (or ActiveSync) takes over the gateway or something.
i remember that happened to me. just disable the "allow this device to connect to the network", or you can just properly set up internet connection sharing on your main connection.

as soon as I connect my 8925 my PC cannot connect to the internet. I must remove the USB connection from my 8925 and then disable/enable (in XP) my PC's NIC to get the connection back.
this sux big time... I appreciate the help guys!
Untick USB to PC?
Start > Settings > Connections > USB to PC
Only thing I have different on my Connection Settings is I have the last box checked
...Allow wireless connections on this device..etc...etc.
On my Kaiser's Internet Sharing setting I have USB for the PC Connection and Media.Net for the Network Connection BUT it doesnt connect till I tell it to
Are you using a third party wireless network configuration service or wireless zero configuration service which is what I use
Could your home PC network subnet be the same as the subnet created by Activesync and your device? This might screw up the routing.
Do an "ipconfig /all" from the cmd prompt while your device is plugged in and post the output.
It is working fine again... I reinstalled ActiveSync... no clue why that "fixed" it since I have not made any changes otherwise.
strange!!!
thanks for the help everyone!

Strange, yet not. Glad you got it fixed, and thanks for the update.
It acts odd... as soon as I plug in the 8925 the internet connection stops working... it takes from 30 seconds to a few minutes then it "comes back"
I hate AS... MS sux big time with this app. seems like they only let the kindergarden programmers work in it.

PS:
- All DNS settings are same
Sorry for the bump.
I have no idea what you're trying to accomplish here, but you might try isolating DNS issues and try pinging an IP address, I usually just go with google.com, 209.85.225.104 is one of many..
I found that tethering my laptop to my HTC Rhodium in the past if I set the connection up manually (NOT using BT PAN) I had to set the laptop DNS to a specific AT&T DNS server or I couldn't resolve IPs.. If I used BT PAN, no problem.. Why I have no idea.. I suspect the routing is done differently.

Hi, i'm trying to do "reverse tethering" using Windows ICS and WiFi AdHoc.
I can connect my N1 to laptop via WiFi. But my N1 still cannot use internet. I also tried to change DNS setting to google but still no luck. Tried pinging 192.168.0.1 but got cannot resolve error message (using terminal). Tried turning off Windows Firewall on my laptop, still no luck.
I need help.
Have you tried a different device (a random PDA, iPod, or any other device with WiFi) to see if you can establish the connection on it? That way, you'll be able to isolate your issue to either the PC or the N1.
I don't have other device to test.
But just so you know, I've tried the tethering via usb and wifi from my N1 to my laptop, not working too.
Except when I use PdaNet application, only then i can tether my N1 into laptop. But PdaNet cannot reverse tether.
Need help.
EDIT:
Wait, I own PS3. Maybe I can try it. Will report back later.
At my PS3 it says: "Access Point not found". What did I wrong? But at my N1 i can connect to my laptop. Help.
Also, is this related to what ROM I'm using?
I don't know if the Bionic has some sort of special way it deals with WiFi but it can't seem to connect to the WiFi at home? Does it need some sort of special setup? My Optimus One is able to connect just fine. And the Bionic was able to download a few files while connected to the school WiFi.
Does it have problems with certain routers? It just keeps saying "Obtaining IP address" and it won't get connected. We are using an Airport at home and I'm not sure what kind of router the school has. Is there some sort of setting that is different in the WiFi advanced settings from other phones?
What are your wifi settings on? WPA/WPA2? your have to make sure you try to connect with the same settings that your router uses. There are various setups so you may want to check that out. Mine is on WPA/WPA2 but there are others.
Also, you may want to try unplugging your router and plugging it back in.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA
You may also want to check out how many current connections you have to your network. If your wifi isn't password protected, your neighborhood may be using your network and your router may be at capacity for active connections.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA
I'd try the advise above first and if that doesn't work then try changing your SSID to something unique and seeing if it will connect then. One other note may be to set your router to wireless G only, I've seen issues with mine trying to connect to certain wireless N routers.
In Wifi Settings, press Menu and go to Advanced Settings. Ensure that you have Enable AutoIP turned on. For some reason I dont usually see it turned on by default.

Alright I fixed it ^_^ I switched from WEP to WPA/WPA2 and enabled AutoIP just in case. AutoIp did not fix it though. Had to switch to WPA/WPA2.
Thank you everyone

Glad you got it fixed. I am adding this story in case anyone else might suffer from this.
My friend and his wife have Droid Bionics that could connect to wifi around town (hospital, McDonald’s, Starbucks, etc) but not to his wifi at home. They both had the 5.9.905 software on their Bionics. At his home he has a Netgear WPN824 v3 router (capable of B and G but not N) with fully updated firmware. The router was already set to channel 6 instead of auto and no mac filtering was turned on. When he would try to connect to the wifi at his house his Bionic would connect to the router but blocked apps from passing data back and forth and they would finally time out. The bionic would show a strong wifi signal and the wifi icon would be blue.
His encryption type had been ‘WPA-PSK [TKIP]’ and according to some forums we read that should have worked. We tried upgrading his phone to ICS leak .232 and we were very surprised that this did not fix the wifi problem.
It turned out that by turning off all encryption on his router his phone was finally able to pass data. I changed the encryption to ‘WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]’ and that seemed to do the trick for both their phones. I suspect that if you have a similar problem you could try changing to no encryption and if that works try one of the other encryption types and maybe one of them will work for you. I hope this helps someone get their Bionic and wifi working and saves you some time.

I have just found the exact same problem! Updated to 4.3 only a week ago and works fine on my own WIFI, but doesn't work on my parents Netgear router.
Googled and found this http://android.kul.is/2013/09/sony-xperia-zr-wifi-problem.html
No actual fix though.
Try turning off wifi optimisation. In my experience, some routers do not like power saving modes that some devices use.
The setting is under the advanced wifi settings.
Settings -> WiFi -> Menu key -> Advanced -> WiFi optimisation.

it is problem with 4.3 of sony its not comptabitable with some netgear routers
too sad i must buy a new router or stay on 4.2.2
Have you checked if your router has a firmware update available?
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
it is old router and it is already has the latest update
Well I've tried with 3 different routers and it's the 2.4GHz Netgear that it doesn't connect too. Billion 5GHz and BT 2.4GHz work fine.
So this never happened before, but since I got my new router it takes 1 min for my moto g 2nd (XT1063) to connect to my home wi-fi and this is really annoying. Before I got my new router it took about 10 seconds to connect, I also tried getting a new router from the same model.
Some details:
1. It happens only in my home wifi, to other wifi networks it connect normally.
2. Other devices in my home connect normally too.
3. While connecting it gets stuck for the whole minute in "Obtaining IP address" or "Authenticating" stages.

What brand router is it. Some routers have a WPS or wifi protected setup setting, try disabling that. Forgetting the network and rescanning will sometimes help.

It's d-link 2760U. It's most likely problem with the phone itself since my brother got the XT1068 with lollipop it also connect normally to the network.
And I tried that already, I tried all security types and even without any security but the problem persists.
