Question Format SD CARD as Internal Storage - Redmi Note 10 Pro

Hy mate, can u guys tell me what custom rom can merge sd card as internal storage, so i can use my sd card as internal storage.. thanks

Why would you want that? Internal storage always gets destroyed completely after a ROM install or change. ROM changes always want full wipes/formats. It is why I almost don't care about its size. External SD capability is critical and permanent. Internal is just non-permanent anyway.

yeah i know it,, but i have only 64gb internal and can't install any game cause got full apps and fully storage... in MIUI we can merge sd card as internal so give me extras space... but in my custom rom (pixel) there's option to do that but after format as internal storage, sd card still not merge at all.

You want to combine the internal storage and the usb storage into one storage space and the internal and external sd storage become just sd storage?

I would like to do this too, I know it is possible because my Motorola Xoom does this. I was surprised that the ICS update didn't reformat the internal storage to work this way.
The internal "/data" partition stores both application and "user" data and it is done by having a subfolder of the data partition mounted as the "internal sdcard" (/mnt/sdcard) by a special filesystem that strips all user permissions from the files.
That way as far as the OS is concerned all the data is on one unified partition so I could install 20G worth of apps if I liked, yet all the applications that download data or expect music to be on the sdcard have everything in the right place.
The extra sd card shows up as /mnt/external1

I have tried to do this by editing the "vold.fstab" file in the etc folder. However I have not been successful. I can only switch between the internal and external sdcard.
Each time I failed I have to recopy the original vold.fstab file before the Note working again if I am lucky. Most of the time I have to reflash the rom again. You can get some information from the following thread:

Optimus P990 storage question

Hi!
I've got this weird problem with my phone. My phone has got 8GB of internal storage, and a 2GB Micro SD card.
Whenever I install a custom rom, it seems to restrict the 8GB of internal storage for me, so that I can only use the 2 Gigs on my SD card, and then another 2 Gigs of the internal storage.
Also, can I just remove everything on both the card, and the internal storage now where I'm gonna put another rom on it? Or would that mean flashing and rooting again?
Thanks!

Did you tried to unmount, and mount your internal memory?
About which custom rom are you talkin?
in CM9 Go to settings, storage, press the Menu button, and change the storage option to use Internal Storage. Reboot.
In CM7, go to Cyanogenmod settings->Application->use internal storage. Reboot
I had this problem for a while too but it was remedied quite easily Cheers.

Is there a way to increase storage for the XSP?

the Xperia SP is almost having its month on my hands. As we all know, lollipop consumes a lot of internal storage, so is there a way to increase internal storage? like install apps on the sdcard? please teach me masters
Go to settings, apps, menu, preferred install location, select removable SD card.
Your apps will install on ext. SD card (if possible). You have to move Already installed apps yourself.
you can do a sd card partition i think and then make some space of the sd card look like internal storage ...e.x: if you have internal storage like 5g and you have a sd card 4g ...you did a partition to the sd card and made 1g for the internal storage >your phone now will show you a 6g internal and 3g sd card,,,,,i don't if this will work on lollipop and our phone but you can have a look here

Yes... There is only one way... Which is... You have to make your SD card to portable storage.... Before doing this action take a backup of your SD card... After completing the process you will see your internal storage's contents again on file manager or explorer.

From your answer , I understand that if the sd card is internal storage, there is no way to move media files to the card and to be visible. Am I right?

Once your card is set as internal, then there is virtually no difference in the SD card storage and the 8gb internal storage. After formatting to internal SD card, the storage becomes "internal shared storage" and anything on internal or SD is treated as a single storage. So basically if any file is in internal or SD will then make no difference to the way Android will detect it.
However, I shall tell you a difference.
After formatting SD as internal, the internal goes to the location /data/media and SD goes to /sdcard

I don't understand. In the phone's settings-->storage and usb, I see internal storage and sd scan disc. Also in phone's file manager, I see only internal storage, which is the phone's internal storage and not the formated as internak storage sd card. Also in ES file explorer I see sd card and storage with emulated folder and self folder and nothing else in it. Also the only way to see the option to move media files from internal storage to sd, is when I connect a usb flash drive and after they moved to sd card they become invisible and the phone's media apps don't detect them.

Bro I told you all that is completely normal and is working just as it should.
Your SD card is now treated as a part of your internal storage.
I have a 16gb card as internal. See the ss below to see what the settings treat it as...
This means that if you have any pics, or videos, then it doesn't matter whether they are on SD or on internal, because they are basically the same.
As far as transferring stuff to other devices, lemme tell you that SD as internal won't work with other devices... So if you have a pic on SD and you remove SD and plug it in your PC using USB adapter to view it, then you will not see anything...
The only way for transfers is
1) Apps like ShareIt
2) USB to phone.
BTW internal SD will only help you if you want to install more Apps than allowed by the internal 8gb storage alone.

By that you mean that if the internal gets full from pics, I can move pics to sd and be also visible?

Bro. First of all :
After SD as internal format, all pics start going to SD card instead of internal. Internal storage is pushed with apps and data with the option of moving some apps to SD card too.
It's too simple but you seemingly don't understand it.
Look bro @SACS73 I already spent my time trying to reply to you and helping you when no one else was active.
The least you can do for me is to press the thanks button on my posts here.

The pics continue to go to internal storage. Its too bad that you are so aggressive. Obviously you behave like this because you are miles away from me.

I'm a bit in haste because this whole a7k forum is being run because of me and the devs rarely come online.
I do my best to stay away from posts that are too noobish. It would just waste my time. And if I reply to you, then I certainly feel that the post should not be ignored.
Also, I was not aggressive at all. I was just straight forward.
Your statement has left a scar though. I will never help you on this forum anymore. Best of luck getting help from other people who might come up once a while. It really hurts when you try to help but no one cares.
As the saying goes :
"Everyone seems to care when it's too late."

SD Card Format As Internal or External?

Hi,
I have Moto G5S Plus, which has usable storage as internal 45.34GB & SD Card 117GB.
I want to know as for SD Card formatting there are two options.
1. Format as internal
2. Format (it keeps as External)
Question:-
1. what is difference between them?
2. Which is Better option?
3. Pros & cons?
Thanks,
Always external, sd card is not robust enough to handle the read/write traffic as internal for a long time.
Never do it as internal if you don't want to experience corrupt data in the future, it is a ticking time bomb. Its only advantage is installing app in your sd card.
Yeah generally external, or portable is best option. Really almost never a need to go internal these days.
