Hello folks,
not being able to use Shazam still is a bummer for me.
Always the same thing:
install Shazam, grant it every possible right, works for 2-3 songs (doesn't matter if widget or normal Shazam icon), stops recognizing any song
I kind of adopted to an app called "beat find", which is way slower and has a smaller database but keeps working
Anyone having that Shazam problem too?

Yep same here.
I can confirm that Shazam stops working once I close and relaunch it. Works fine on first launch as long as I don't close it. I'm also interested in a solution.

Thanks for the confirmation. I have the phone since December 22 and tried everything possible, only solution was switching to that "Beatfind" app

You mean with "close it" killing it from recents? Because I have tried different ways now but doesn't matter what i do it works.
Wasn't aware of the issue as I had only used it once on this device, so thank you for raising awareness. You may have better luck with SoundHound (aka Midomi). I've used this one a ton in the past. Unfortunately it does have adverts unless you buy ad-free for £5

Thx a lot. Just switched to SoundHound and it is working perfectly. The 5,x€ are worth it for me.
Just the widget is not a 1x1 small widget und I have found no way in the settings to automatically start the search for songs once I click on the app icon (widget does search instantly by clicking on it)
I also have problems with Shazam, to make it work again, I have to clear Data and Cache.
@kitzblitz yeah I don't really get why they couldn't include a 1x1 widget also. Anyway make sure to enable the 'startup' (not 'autostart') permission for Spotify if you want Spotify integration to work inside SoundHound.
@PILLS2389 yep that's the exact behaviour I'm seeing. SoundHound seems to be a decent alternative for now
Please report back if you ever find a solution
Shazam also didn't work on mine. SoundHound is a very bit as good though!

Any idea when the Spotify will be available?

Thanks!
No news on the official Spotify client yet, but "Droidify" an unofficial client showed up in the Android Market today. It's free, but like all 3rd party applications that use the Spotify API you need a Spotify Premium account to use it.
I've been using it all afternoon and it's really very good. It works even with just a 3G connection, you have access to all your playlists and can create new playlists. Album art is displayed when you play tracks and you can even read artist bios. It can run in the background and even when the phone is in standby.
It's not quite as polished as the official client will undoubtedly be and it doesn't allow for offline syncing of playlists, although it does cache songs so frequently played songs shouldn't need to be downloaded in their entirety every time.

Working very well here
Not tested much on 3G, crappy reception in my flat.
Can't find this on the market, maybe been pulled?
Pulled yes, (but works if it's already installed)
Can someone email me the apk? It's no longer on the market.

I sent a DM with it included.
Can someone please send me the link? Either as mail or PM? Eager to try this app. Thanks
Can someone send it to me also? Thank you in advance.
Yeah, I'd also like a copy of the APK if possible. PM me if you can help me out ^^

Just to say, I found that the app force closed on me every time I tried to log in. But, after adding just a single playlist through the Spotify-PC-app, and tossing a few songs in it - the force closing stopped. So, if anyone else is experiencing this, try adding a playlist with a couple of songs.

Apparently its just been pulled from the Market.

-- oops, just noticed I am rather late with the news, sorry --
Only did some quick testing when I got the app, but now it seem have a 50/50 chance of playing the selected song and logging me out when I press play... Probably blocking something somewhere
Can't wait for an official one
can you send it to me also? im already premium. Thank you in advance.
I would also love a link

Hi,
I'm wondering to know if you know application to avoid black screen during calls for the HTC Hero.
RucaNebas
Yes. On the app store there is a free app called Shake Awake. It detects the movement of pulling the phone away from your ear and activates the screen. The sensitivy can be adjusted.
Thank you very much for your quick replay Paul.
I installed and it seems to work.
Thank you again.
Do you know where I can find cool applications for our Hero?
RucaNebas
Wow, this works very nice.
Thank you

You're very welcome.
I have so far only installed apps from the Android Market.
Excellent find.
Not working on HTC Hero :-((
Do you know why?
Yeah, didn't work on the Hero. I hope they fix that with the update and also that annoying vibrate when the phone connects. While interesting concept it is really not needed. I figure I know when it connects when the other person says hello.
You can use Keepscreen, there is a lite version ;-)
Hi,
you may use the free app calle KeepScreen Lite, too.
This app lets you choose for which apps you want the screen always stay on.
The Hero uses a specific phone app, whose name is different from google standard phone app ... But KeepScreen lets you manually choose the apps you want.
There are two versions of keepscreen : the free one (called lite), which is 'limited' to standard google apps, and two of user's chose. The pay version is unlimited.
edit : bricabrac : you won this one
Thank you guys.
I'm sorry to back again, but I need to understand your explanations.
Do you mean that the KeepScreen Lite application could be installed on the Hero and activates the screen during calls?
Which is the Hero app name that keeps the screen always stay on during calls?
I had already created a thread with regard to the screen switching off during a call here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=547736
Shakeawake doesn't seem to work for all and for those it does it can be unreliable.
PowerManager can be set (in a profile) to keep the screen alive when making a call for up to a minute (specify by number of secs... I think) which gives you plenty of time to get past those 'pick 1 to do ... pick 2.... etc' type calls.
Hope this helps
how do i install this " shake awake" program on my foon! new 2 andriod

KeepScreen
if i'm not mistaken the actual phone app should be named "Dialer"
KeepScreen is now completely free, and has in the free version all functionality
ahm, can anyone tell me how do i turn the screen off again after i awoke it? my ear keeps checking notifications :/
fyi...on my hacked sapphire, keepscreen was a little buggy. it would sometimes still allow dialer app to go dark while on call even with the keepscreen app running as confirmed in both notification bar and running apps. also, when rebooting phone, keepscreen requires restart but that is probably normal. for me, i decided i rather not deal with the problem of occasional face/key-press on long calls and just let the device go dark. i've become familiar with the quick-key presses to handle call-swap, speaker-on, and such...
I have shake awake since a while and it works fine.
Keepscreen is nice to keep applications "awake"
Not sure why my original thread was taken down but if it was because of "warez" it's crap. Go take down every other rom (including the sprint hero dump) that's "illegally" distributing apps and EVERY single windows mobile rom.
heres the goods:
Mod Edit: Links removed - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4746727&postcount=110
Btw if any mod feels the need to pull this thread again please pm a reason to why it was pulled.
DO NOT PM ME ASKING FOR THESE APPS
search around for them!!!
i believe it WAS taken down because you've kept the original provider in the app names. i'm not a mod or whoever took it down so i dont know but thatd be my best guess. i remember seeing in the previous thread, i could quote someone saying "it's just a matter of time but good job till then!" or something along those lines. good job indeed! and so glad this is back up.
with that said i have an issue with the navigator:
i have it said on full audio, but theres no TURN voices. JUST STREET names. its really accurate on the street names. and the directions are perfect. but is is just me, or is the audio missing turn direction voices????
Hey, can anyone please tell me how to remove some of the apps from here, for example the sprint TV does not work at all and I don't want to see it in my apps how to I remove it?
Also, how do you guys got past the validation thing in the NFL app?

Anything special you have to do to get the tv app to work or is there something temporarily wrong with the connection right now? thanks
Sprint TV does work...
Its has been my experience (1 whole day) that the sprint tv stops working when you take the widget off the main home page. as long as I keep the widget on the main page, my tv has been working.
try that. might take a reset, erase widget and replace, and another reset, but it worked everytime the tv stopped working. ever since I left the widget on the main home screen it has been working fine.

Tried this a couple times to no avail. keep getting "channel listing is currently unavailable. Please try again later."
edit: saw the other thread on this. moving over there.
for me what i did was simply download, install, put widget on screen, reboot, works. but use the widget to get to the app. meaning click on the widget and it should take you to the tv app. if it still doesnt work, too bad. seems to be working at different times for people, and since tmobile networks sucks sometimes, could be that. idk lol!
so should i download tv widget .apk or tv apk or both ????? just want to do it right the first time...lol

TV works. Like everyone else said put the widget on your screen. Even after I did that it took a day for the TV to start working so be patient it's worth it.

To be honest once I got home I forgot all bout it. I just tried it this morning and it worked.
has anyone tried out the navigation app yet? I always get a message saying no gps data found.
I've been able to get the TV, NFL and GPS apps tow work. Just took some patience and rebooting, otherwise works great!
cm 4.0.4
NFL, NASCAR and TV are working great. Has anyone figured out how to get the navigator working? It doesn't seem to work when I am still, but if I am driving it will give me turn by turn very nicely, recalculate routes quickly and everything, but only while driving.
Anyone else having this problem?

Well I've searched around this forum and found that there wasn't a thread about firewall apps.
My question is: Which app have you tried and found that it works perfectly for you?
My main goal here is to limit some apps from using up my mb's when I'm away from my wifi.
So which app do you guys recommend?
P.S. obviously this might require root which isn't a problem.
A firewall for a phone ? ? Seriously.... It's as useless like many fake antivirus for phones.... Just not install useless and strange apps from other sites, and don't clic on EV every link you receive

Umm...if it wasn't clear from the post, what I meant by firewall is an app that'll prevent installed apps from using up my internet data bundle.
A lot of cariers, including mine, don't offer cheap unlimited data bundles and, hence, I have a need to stop certain apps from accessing the internet when not on wifi.
My question has nothing to do with security.
FW
I'm using the FireWall Plus
And I'm quite happy with it... You can choose if you want block/allow Data/Wifi ... one or both :good:

Well I gave Firewall Plus a fair day's trial, for the most part, it works nicely.
But google now and google chrome seem to be blocked even though they are white listed in the app which is weird. Do I need to check something else for them to work?
Btw, I know the app was set up properly since other apps such as whatsapp to receive Internet while others like facebook don't.

Personally I use black list... so I check GSM or Wifi or both, click to "Save rules" in the top menu and it works... I never had any trouble with it
I might be something "deeper" of app networking... I would suggest to report it to coders of FP.
I would highly recommend DroidWall...best ever..
Not a high quality post, but wondering if there is a browser app that works on Android Auto?
Any list available with all (unsupported) Android Apps?
Thx!
I highly doubt there is such a thing, especially since Google wants to keep Android Auto distraction-free.

It's funny, but in my case having no browser (even a text based interface from the phone/chrome would be grand) actually makes AA *more* distracting for me, as for work I travel from address to address for service calls, and my route is all accessed through my phone via chrome. As it stands, without AA, I have a nice big button in chrome that I can tap that will automagically load up the next customer's address in google maps, but in AA I have to unplug from USB, pull up my browser, look down at my screen, and memorize the address I need to go to next, then plug the phone in, launch AA, 'ok google xxx address' and proceed. It's a very similar process when I need to call ahead to let the person know I'm coming. As terrible as it is, I do not have the patience to pull over every single time I need to do this.. it would be far less distracting if I could have the cover page on my screen, tap the nice big buttons for maps and calling ahead and just carry on with my day!
I'm not saying you would lecture me on this, but just in case you (or anyone reading this) would, I *understand* that I shouldn't be doing this while driving, but I'm but human, and very flawed, and when I have an easy option to pull over I usually will, but when I don't, I don't, so support for this would be *much* safer.
