Well, well, I sure took my goofy little time harshly debloating my phone, but it's actually doing way better than I thought tbh, I recently sat and slowly toyed around with my main S22U, took my time to debloat and see what I don't use anymore, and the result is actually pretty neat from my user perspective. Of course, I'll attach the preset.
Just review it before applying the preset since most important features are gone like samsung cloud and etc!
I am still new however but pretty happy with what I've done
Anyways, I can tell that my battery is dramatically better and lasts way longer, at least from what I'm experiencing, might be different for the others. The performance is way better and everything just feels smoother lol.
Either way feel free to judge me
Happy debloating
Warning: This may not work for all devices
I also decided to get rid of Auto Hotspot. Package name: com.sec.mhs.smarttethering
O hahah, oh boy. I **** sure dived in deeper and oh boy am I surprised. Looks like just taking removing gms (google services) and a bit more applications made it better. I will re-attach the new file of course.
However I advise you to not right away apply the preset and delete all of these applications, you might wanna un-check certain things you wanna keep and etc since a lot of things are now gone... uhhhhhhh so ye I am bad at explaining things but I hope you do understand.
For you people who use google wallet I advise you to keep com.google.android.gms | Otherwise you won't be able to use google wallet at all and the app will only crash everytime you try to open it.
The battery for me is even better after testing if for a few hours.
However it can differ. You need to let the phone have adaptive battery enabled as well so the phone and can adapt and learn your usage and etc, at first it might feel laggy but then your phone gets better at understanding and it will become better and better by time!

Over all this look like the most promising turn by turn nav app. The best part is it is free on the market. What do you guys think about it?
This app is terrible IMO
I thought it was a nice app. Nothing amazing though.
If you want a nice turn by turn, I would recommend the Sprint Navigation app off of the Hero dump.
I don't use the turn by turn as much, but I think the concept of the social commuting is a novel idea. I do run the program when driving and report traffic delays and police. I usually clear the running apps before starting Waze and it runs fairly smooth. just my .02.
The biggest issue I ever had with Waze is that fact that you can almost watch the battery level go down when you run it. It's one of the few apps that drain juice so quickly that my phone won't charge using my car charger when it's running.
Cool idea when it wants to work, but I get better success with sprint nav
The client seems quite stable now. Anybody here with a few weeks of experience? (Preferably in an area with bad coverage).
How well does it do, without user interaction, in creating the road network? (as shown in http://world.waze.com/guided_tour/ => "Behind the Scene")
I tried it for a few days but could not resist fixing the errors on my own since I wanted to have my most important route functional to test how well it gives voice directions. I did not manage to do much driving on other routes yet. As far as I have seen, driving a road two or three times is not enough for the automatic routines, i.e. it still has many gaps. Will it actually work (fixing all gaps, creating intersections, etc.) if I drive it like 10 times or more? Or will I rather end up having 3 parallel roads (due to GPS inaccuracy) if I limit my contribution to activate "record new roads" when I drive incomplete routes?
I hope there are users with waze-experience here. I could of course ask in the waze forums but I think that here at XDA is the better place to get an accurate (=non fanboy) response.
to be honest, i just downloaded this app today. i hate and love it so much. It is extremely useful, but it seems like nobody in my city uses the app so the directions it gives me are horrible. It's VERY laggy and kills the battery so fast. But I can't resist it because I want to try to see if it actually starts to improve if I stick with it. Sucks that I bought a Garmin the other day too lol. I'm running a rooted 1.5 CLIQ (which is why I just got tired of waiting on google maps navigation)
I got my captivate on launch day (well 2 days after due to shipping) I stayed with stock for awhile and just did the lag fix.. it was ok.. i think the first rom i did was cognition.. or perception one or the other then did the other after that.. ran those for a bit.. tried CM7 (i think that was in january?) then firefly then something else and then netflix hit.. and i went to Continuum (v5.4.1) and thats where i sit now.. and i'm about really to go back to a iphone (also i REALLY REALLY hate that idea.. i like the iphone it self but i cant stand apple)
heres my main issues. lockups and slow downs. my phone hasnt ever been prone to locking up. until about a month or so ago (a week or 2 after flashing continuum_) so i'm guessing its something i installed that continuum dosnt like or its continuum it self.. with way it looks like i'm probably gonna be flashing something else no idea what.. what ever it is i want to to support netflix (Suggestions?) as far as slow downs.. the away it sits now if i open up the browser and do a search then back out of that to my home screen it takes it a good 5-10 seconds to load the icons and widgets on my home screen.. very annoying might not seem like much very it dose get VERY old
i know most of that is due to the rom.. but that also brings up another concern i've having..
I like android.. i really do love the live wallpapers altho halk the time i dont have one selected due to it might be slowing down my phone (see above).. when updating apps on my phone (say having 2-3 apps to update and clicking the update all button) makes the phone SOOO laggy (had this on all roms i've used) that i cant even receive a phone call untill its done downloading and installing them all.. thats annoying but i can live with it.. another issue.. turning on wifi/bluetooth.. i turn off my wifi every day when i goto work np.. get off at 6am come home goto bed.. wake up and usually check my email ect.. and before that i turn on my wifi.. about 15% of the time it wont turn on.. it says error in the setting menu.. try a few times.. still error.. do i have to reboot the phone.. just to turn wifi on.. bluetooth does the same thing.. except alot less often (mainly because i only use bluetooth for my stereo headphone and thats maybe once a week)
now alot of that can probably be traced back to roms.. but.. if i want to keep using android am i going to have to constantly be changing roms to try and find whats the best? so far i'm flashing a new rom about every month (i know some of you do it every week)... and really i just want one thats gonna work.. all the time.. i know wheres gonna be bugs every now and then even teh jesus phone has them and has to be updated..but when it take my 15 seconds to unlock my phone because i just gotta text message and the screen fade out right as i pull it outta my pocket is getting old
now for hardware side LOL.. main issue.. the damn capacitive buttons i've made a post about this before.. and i know theres not much that can be done.. but MAN are they annoying.. 1/2 i have to repetatly hit the buttons just for them to see that i've hit them at all... some times its 10-20 times before i picks up that i hit the back button at all (i use back the most) The gps.. well at first (stock) was HORRIBLE 20 minutes to get a lock.. the last few roms i've used have worked better (usually gets a like in under 30 seconds but some times loses it.. for no real reason like i drive under a tree for 1 second.. but i RARELY use the gps.. last time i used it was months ago so not sure how i would work actually driving now.. usually use it for google maps and such
apps.. (here is the only point i'm gonna compare apple and android).. we all know apple has more apps blah blah blah.. BUT android isnt THAT far behind in number or apps.. my issue with them is 'polish' or quality of apps.. not sure if this is that iOS is easier to make thinks look 'good' or what but.. if you look at.. say HD wallpaper apps on android .. thes a ton of them and they all have a very.. plain GUI nothing special about them.. iOS seems to be better looking.. no necessarily better content but been GUI to the apps i do like the openness of the android market just about anything and everything is all in 1 market (altho i am liking amazons market free app a day) when as iOS you have the app store and cydia (and installious if you choose). your not gonna find any SNES emulators on the app store but you can find them on cydia where as on android they are all in the market (altho they did just purge them a bit ago but i'm starting to see them come back)
One thing i have noticed sence i got my andoid i play less games on it then i did my iphone
I know this has been kinda a rant and hopefully you can help me.. i do like my captivate.. but at the same time i am due for a upgrade anytime i want.. and i dont really see anything coming out on ATT that is really any better then my captivate (captivate runs everything i've tried just fine.. excpet needing certian roms for netflix and no hulu app support yet)
I guess i'm just looking for the fence see the greener grass.. logicly i know its no better... but the idea if just using it and not having alot of the issues i'm having now sounds VERY nice...
Sounds like you should wipe your system. I would recommend using Titanium Backup, especially the Pro version as it can automate the backup/restore process. Search around the forums and you can find how to go back to either stock 2.2 or 2.3. See if that makes a difference for ya.
I can understand your frustrations with the phone, especially in the lagginess area. Just out of curiousity, what launcher are you using? Sometimes that can have an effect on your overall perceived speed. Also, if you haven't already done this, go into display settings and change your screen timeout to something longer. That might stop that particular annoyance.
I don't know what widgets you're using, but in general, the more widgets you have going, the more sluggish your phone will be. You could also try switching background data off (or at least auto-syncing), as that can slow things down, too.
As far as stability goes, if you're in the Gingerbread world, right now, things aren't going to be ultra-stable. Development of roms overall right now is going well, but it's still in an earlier stage of development. If you need stability, it might be best to head to Froyo for a while, where there are a lot of good, solid roms that would probably suit your needs. (Can't comment on netflix, as I don't use that app.)
You may find that your capacitive buttons become more responsive as you remove other lag factors, but I can't guarantee that. It's a little bit of the nature of the beast.
The gaming area on Android isn't as developed as the iOS version, but there are still some good quality games out there. Give Dungeon Defenders a shot (if that's your sort of thing), or Backbreaker, or Robo Defense. All of these look pretty good and are a lot of fun.
Ultimately, just like the previous poster said, a system wipe and restart might do you some good. Just back up the things that are crucial, and see where a "format internal sd" gets you.

Also remember that restoring data saved from a 2.2 based rom can cause issues if you are restoring to new GB based rom. If you want a rom that just works then u would say stay stock. As for your apps reloading I see this alot when people load way tooo many shortcuts on their homescreen. With the folder programs and app drawers there is no real reason for having more then say 5 or 6 shortcuts on a single page of the launcher.

I have maybe 5-6 short cuts spread on 2-3 screens i keep everything other then handcent, mail, market, amazon market, gallery and camara in teh app tray
^ What zelendel said.
You could also try Zeam launcher. I've used that one in the past, and it's pretty snappy. Also, try turning the weather updates off on the fancy widget for a couple of days and see if that helps.
It doesn't have to be a never-ending cycle. In the same vein as what zelendel is suggesting, it might be worthwhile just to see how much you can simplify your interface and still live with how it works. I recently went from having 5 screens of shortcuts to 3, and I've noticed that the phone seems snappier overall.
Flash to stock KF1 Gingerbread and remove the bloatware. It runs Netflix great and I don't have many lag problems. If I do its when I'm trying to run music while browsing the internet while texting and having games open in the background. Other than that it really is a solid build since its straight from Samsung and isn't having to use a reoriented kernel. If that isn't what you like then try Serendipity 7, I tried GR-12 when Serendipity was in its early stages and it was nice, but I like the idea of having the *proper bootloaders (whether it really makes a difference, I don't know, but placebos are powerful).

Hi guys,
i'm just interested in how do you guys use your gear and which features you guys miss. i would suggest that all of you put it in a Format like i'll Show you. So it's easier for devs and maybe Samsung to overview this thread statistically. Maybe some of them will get inspired. who knows....
(sorry for the formatting of the text. but i have to use Internet Explorer and it automatically fixes it in a bad way. but i do not really care...sorry about that. )
Reason why i bought my Galaxy Gear
I thought my note 3 is too big for pulling it out that often just to know which time it is. Plus the uneccessary times when nothing important beeped like a new thread or a uploaded YouTube video. I thought it would be handy to have again a good looking watch for using my phone less.
Cause we all know how often we pull it out to check the time and begin to senseless checking here, replying there...For me this worked. Plus i thought it would be pure awesomeness to control music with this.
How do your needs changed or which features you began to miss when you had it quite a time?
-Seeing and changing wifi state, mobile data and maybe more but that 2 are most important to me.
-Broswing through the Music library of the currently used musicplayer. Missing this one was the most dissapointing thing to me.
-I had moments where it would have been very good when i could have used the camera a a silent security camera without time limitations and keeping the Screen black. So the thief won't recognize that he got on tape. This would be good to for uneccessary Police violence too.
- i would like to read all incoming Messages with a Speed Reader app like spritz.
-General Spritz like speedreading Integration
-Better capability of short replys from the gear to Facebook Messenger and apps like that.
-Ofcourse Google Now Integration instead of useless S-Voice...
- Clockfonts! MOAR JUST MOAAARRR or direct font using Integration...oooor zooper on tizen....xD
Android or Tizen?
After using Tizen a few days i say i am surpised about Tizen. Ofcourse there are no apps not even a calculator. But the System is more responsive and the Batterylife actually is much better for my usage. On Saturday at 17:30 o'clock it was charged to 100% now it's at 15...Before it lasts a day. Batterylife is more than tripled for me. Plus the voice recognition for taking photos is there. I missed that.
I am hoping that it will be possible to convert android apps for tizen and that it will last not that long till this day Comes. Cause the batterylife and the better response of the system are good arguments to me for having Tizen on a featurewatch like this. Yes you read right. For me this is a Feature watch. It isn't smart at all imo.
But as soon as i am familiar with Tasker i am instantly back on Android at this state to workout the missing stuff... Android APK compatibility is a huge Thing for pushing Tizens usability an acceptance Forward imo.
I am a Developer an my thoughts About "Android or Tizen" are:
Especially your guys opinion is interesting to me.
I am a Developer and got inspired to (currently) work(ing) on
Do not Forget to mention if it is for Tizen or Android if it isn't already obvious.
Would you buy it again or do you regret?
I would buy it again. Cause in first place it was what i expected. I do not really Need 2 Smartphones i only want to do not pull out my phone so often a day. But not browsing through Music is a pain in the ass to me...i paid 200 Bucks. i think this was a ok Price. Look around what normal watches can you can pay much much for for just seeing the time. If the battery wasnt that small it is totally OK to me.
Now it's your turn ladies guys and devs.
If you do not want to answer all of that just take the ones you want and make it fat.
sorry for my english
cheers
i purchased mine after the gear two came out, specifically because i prefer android, and i was excited to try out the null rom - i installed null rom within hours of getting it in the mail. i initially had CARBONROM (aosp based) running on my s3, and i had to jump through some hoops to get it to work at all, even with a custom rom on it, and it spurred me to switch back to touchwiz (i also got a note 8.0 around the same time).
initially i just played with it all day, like killing it immediately (there's a good amount of novelty to having a fully functional computer on your wrist), then i started just using it as it was meant to be used, to check notifications and what not. ive just managed to get offline voice recognition working, as well as the google now launcher, and autovoice with google search api - i've only just gotten into tasker because, although i didn't find it too useful for just a phone, for the phone/gear combo i think a lot of cool stuff is possible.
so yeah, in a nutshell, android all day. with regular use, my battery lasts plenty long - i don't understand why anyone has a problem with one day, i have to plug all my other stuff in at night anyways, and i have outlets, chargers and cables to spare, so... i just plug it in at night. a day is fine.
Hello there,
I recently got a Note 5 and I am coming from a iphone 5s. This is my first android device ever and I am trying to get used to it. Thus, I noticed a few things that bothered me a little bit. When I scroll down faster than usual in apps like facebook, shaman, play store, whatsapp emoji menu etc. I get a laggy/jittery behaviour. Some people mentioned browsing as well but I think samsung browser seems decent, I feel no lag after it completely loads the page. I dont wanna believe that this device cant handle even Facebook app, maybe its a network related problem (I am sitting on a 10-25mb internet depending on where I am). I feel an extremely small stutter when I switch between menus for the first time in simple apps like dialer. I just pop it, for example when I first go to contacts and favourites, it kinda stutters for an extremely short time. I am aware such concerns might sound stupid but I am really not sure how it is supposed to be. Next, I am getting about 5-6 hours of SOT battery life. Location is on (wifi and cellular), android device manager is off, NFC off, wifi is always on where I dont have to use mobile data. I noticed that android system is draining the highest amount just after Screen. Usage was mostly Whatsapp, some facebook, phone settings (since I am trying to figure out stuff), a little bit of gaming and twitch. Brightness is auto and at about %30. I also got a geekbench score of Single Core: 1450ish and Multi Core: 4500ish.
Finally, I wonder if these concerns are expected and possible to solve. I did some reading but unfortunately never had chance to come across to a clarifying explanations to all these things. I thank you in advance for your time taken and effort reading this.

Being an ios and android user, what i can say is android can never(as of now) be as smooth as IOS. This is the truth as android is made to support all the variety of devices, however android users get more customisability more useful free apps and more control over the device they own. 5-6 hours of SOT is considered not bad, it really depends on personal usage i think it is acceptable, i guess the ability to see what your phone is using may be a good or bad thing. For what you know maybe on IOS the system actually drains as much or even more than android just that we are unable to view. hahaha :highfive: cheers not looking for flammers just my two cents.
Thanks for the input =) Hopefully this will be solved with a software update later. Still some confirmation/consultancy will be much appreciated, cheers
I am still rocking a Samsung galaxy note 2. It isn't as fast as the oneplus 3t(obviously) but it seems to fair rather well. When it comes to simple operations.
What I mean is the oneplus 3t is benchmarking at 10-15x the performance, yet things like boot time are only 75% faster. Or 4x. I would imagine a boot time of around 10 seconds. Not 30 etc...
Anyone know what areas are phones bottlenecking at these days?
Note: I am running cm13 6.0.1 which is comparable to oxygen os currently on the oneplus 3t
A lof of different things for different usage patterns.
Main bottleneck I think today is storage. Processors are beyond what a daily user needs. GPU might be the culprit for gaming.
Booting times might be influenced also by encryption. Let's say a phone which doesnt have it can boot a lot faster, but it's less safe and so on.
Doing the math. I have a feeling CPU is the bottleneck for boot times.
I can't find a reason to encrypt my whole device. Could you explain why it isn't safe?

Coding and bugs might be a huge one. One poorly coded app or chunk of the OS can kill things for everything else, create wakelocks that aren't granted, etc. I doubt if encryption hurts any gizmo with the hardware support to handle it. File Systems, the hardware & software are huge bottlenecks. F2FS is very fast at certain things (writes) , but other filesystems do reads better. A Snapdragon 821 is plenty of power for pretty much anything. (unless you're a benchmark freak since benchmarks are designed to bring things to their knees). Really bad social networking apps like FB & TW & Inst (well, all of them) are terrible for everything (unless you like them and are willing to get 4000 notifications/s from make believe friends). Having 7 simultaneous power-saving apps running can cause slowdowns. Big ugly damned widgets that take up 5 launcher screens are problematic.
Mostly however, I feel that bottles and bottle caps are the largest creators of bottlenecks. (I hope I didn't actually write that). ;
I get that too many apps slow it down. I have minimized most my apps. And agree on social media issues. Etc... I'm pretty well versed on what to keep uninstalled etc... My question more so is how does a phone that is 10-15x faster still only boots about twice as fast?
Actually a great example is this video. Sure the apps load faster. And these aren't 100% fair comparisons. But I mean boot time hasn't improved. https://youtu.be/0ya8cdAfh8A

It's really a good question. One thing I've noticed over successive versions of Android is how many background apps are started during boot. By the time boot is just completed , there are about 160 apps running , ~90% of them that I can't intuit any reason for having started, and those apps all require similar resources.
I've got a loaded up old 2013 moto x running 4.4.2 that boots in about 10 seconds, a galaxy alpha with about 1/10th the power of the OP3t that boots 4 times as fast, and the 3t that takes about a minute to get to a usable screen. When I get there, (I'm rooted), I'm watching tons of notifications from apps that I don't use at all, ever, that are shooting off for about another minute. I'm beginning to think that the newer the OS , the more security of any sort from SELinux to encryption, the more gratuitous apps that're kicked off, the longer we wait.
Even my first or second boot prior to any software or additions by me, were pretty slow for such an amazing hunk of nice components. Sometime's I'm completely baffled by the way apps like Play Store work, and how many resources and wakelocks appear to be involved and they're always running.

Good video ! . And on top of the obvious amount of time to see a booted phone, those phones are all really busy in the background, to the point of not being able to be useful for another minute after you see it looks booted. I love that the note 7 took longer than the rest. Thanks for posting that.
It's when pure a AOSP ROM is well optimised, it will boot insanely quick without Gapps etc. But it's like most os from a cold boot there are many more boot checks, rechecks and processes that need to happen. This is a useful website https://community.nxp.com/docs/DOC-102546
