Play services automatically updating - Huawei P40 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Apologises of this has already been covered.
For a few weeks I've been constantly getting the device not certified message and Google play services would update to 23.13.12. I tried the usual methods of clearing data from gsf, gps and the play store and I tried stopping updates via the play store and also restricted data to the play store but still I received the certification errors and updates every few hours.
I then went from emui12 to 10 and reinstalled GMS via googlefier but still I received the certification errors!!!!
In the end I solved it (at least for a day so far and counting) by making "find my device" inactive. Settings - Security - More settings - Device Administrator and set find my device to inactive.
After setting to inactive turn on aeroplane mode, clear all data from GPS and uninstall 23.13.12 and then install 21.24.57 and restart the phone.
Hopefully this helps someone else with these problems

you got google pay as device admin?

Google pay was set as active by default. I assume this happens when installing gms?
The reason for deactivating find my device was because it was keeping Google play services alive

I install gms on my p40 pro but I don't get any google pay

Need help establishing a connection with my car

Recently purchased a 2016 Honda Accord, and wanted to give AA a shot. My phone was initially running android 5.0.1., and while I was able to establish a connection with my vehicle, I would get disconnected frequently.
I decided to do a system reset on my phone, and the OS automatically updated itself to 5.1.1. After performing the update, android auto can't establish a connection at all! Instead every time i plug in my phone after starting my car, Android Auto will open and then immediately force close, followed by an error message stating, "Unfortunately, Google Play Services has stopped".
Anyone have this happen to them/know a fix? Thanks in advance!
What phone ?
Make sure you have a GOOD cable.
If you can change USB modes in Settings or from Notifications, try that.

oneplus one with a CM12.1 snapshot
i'm using a 22 AWG cable that i purchased from my local Fry's. Do you have any suggestions for cables? The only research I did into micro-usb cables was in regards to charging speed, so I don't know much about connection/stability or other stuff like that.
I'm having the same damn issue! Have tried the following:
1) signing out and back in to google account
2) clearing cache/data in both google play services/google system framwwork
3) uninstall/reinstall android auto
4) factory reset
I'm on a Note 4 running CM13.
On the 2016 Civic, you can reboot the head unit by holding down the Audio power button until the reboot dialog appears.
This fixes a LOT of AA issues.

did you ever figure this out? I get the same error anytime play services updates itself and it's annoying. I've disabled layers and xposed, cleared play services data, restored play services data, uninstalled and reinstalled play services, logged in and out of account.

PlayStore wont download apps while on data

My issue started with the S7. I couldn't download apps while on mobile data. I was and still am able to download apps while on WiFi. Now that I've upgraded to the S8, I still have the same issue.
Here is what I've done on the S8 which I also did on the S7 and did not fix the issue.
Clear Playstore Cache
Uninstall updates and reverted back to factory playstore
unlinked my google account
rebooted phone
ensured data saver was disabled
made sure that data usage for Play Store was allowed in the background and just for F**KS sake, enabled "Allow app while data saver ON"
Auto-Update Settings for Play Store is set to "Auto Update apps at any time"
WIPED phone to factory
I think I've hit all possible bases that could cause an app not to download via data. PLEASE help me, I've upgraded phones already, and FKN phone is doing the same thing.
I'm using T-Mobile, and hopefully these dudes are not throttling my data...
ANY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!!!!!

Is your phone being charged/plugged in? My phone needs to be plugged in and with the screen off.
Hey, kept having same problem, what I ended up doing was clicking on the little arrow on the notification for downloading, or waiting for Wi-Fi, don't remember exactly what the notification is, but after clicking the arrow to expand there is an option to use data there.
I'm having the exact same issue! Wasted a few hours of my life on calls with customer service of tmobile and google but didn't get it resolved. However, I randomly came to this trick: switch mobile network mode from lte/4g/3g/2g to 4g/3g/2g -> wait until 4g icon shows up -> download some app from play store (optional for me) -> switch back to lte/4g/3g/2g. After this dance, I am able to download apps from google play store via data.
Same problem here. The only thing that works for me is restarting the phone

Google Play Services Bug

I've noticed a problem-bug in my P20 Pro It comes out in only one application so far, I fix it and it only returns if I turn off and on my mobile or reboot it.
I do not know if it's Oreo or P20, but when i open it, it says "Google Services are updating". To do so, I do remove Google Play Services and then update it to the latest version.
Any ideas?
Got the same issue and I think there are more people out there with that issue. I've read about people not being able to see the map in several apps. I have this same issue in telegram for example and it says play services are updating..
Here is a workaround for it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/how-to/maps-app-t3788290
It's a pretty serious bug. I use uber a lot, at least I did before I got the P20 Pro.
If it's not fixed in the update I may have to consider selling it. That's if an update ever materialises of course!
Here some people with the same problem -> https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/play/xfLz_9emKs0
would be good if can disable the app from auto-updating so left with a working version
Hey guys,
I posted a thread about this a while back and someone the other day replied with the reason why, at least it confirmed why mine wasn't working.
I opted in for the beta play services, which some of you might have too. The beta is not yet functional with the P20 Pro and we can't expect it to be functional because it's a beta version and stable releases exist.
I suggest leaving the beta and reinstalling the app, that's fixed the issue for me even after multiple reboots.

I don't appear to be in the beta program. Which version of Play Services are you running now?
I noticed many reviews of Play Services on the store complains about all kinds of other apps being broken now, no idea if they are all Huawei users or if it's a more general issue with the current version.

Same version as I mine. I haven't noticed it updating so it's presumably the one that caused me issues until I cleared the data. I haven't tried a reboot since - sounds from some of the other reports that it might trigger the problems again. If so I can try a reinstall of Play Services.
I had the same issue. All I did was clear the cache from settings -- Apps -- Google Play Services -- Clear cache. Worked fine so far, no more issues.

seems to be a pretty big issue. deleting the app data helps for a few hours, but it comes back. i have an honor 8 and started getting really drastic battery drain and weird wifi issues, along with the google services are updating message. apparently google is working on it. it's 79405933 on issue tracker.
This is getting really infuriating.
Clearing data does sort it, but only temporarily. Also, I have a Wear watch, and clearing data wipes the connection, and it's a PITA to reconnect it without resetting the watch.
Issue is fixed. Please update to New google play services v. 12.6.85.
This is still not working for me , Maps works and is smooth and fine for in car nav etc
But Ingress does not .
I have gone from 12.6.85 to 12.6.88 beta , but that has not fixed the issue.
Ingress lags massively , you cannot really play it
"GPS Test" app show a excellent GPS signal and locked on , yet ingress will take about 30sec -2mins to show up as connected
Then as you move it will be stuck on the last location , tried lots of in game options , nothing seems to help a min later or so it will jump and stick at another location.
Anyone else running Ingress ok ?
Note when I got the phone ingress worked fine, I had to update and reset data to remove that play services updating error in other apps, like TheSchoolApp

Is there a way to disable specific services, not just whole packages, on Oreo?

The Oreo update was just another hit to us, despite of all the good it brought. I can no longer disable specific services with any app.
This means that now I am once again forced to watch the Google Play Services drain that amounts out of thin air no matter what I do, without being able to do anything. Currently, *net_scheduler* is running wild, regardless of wifi or 4g connections.
In Android 7 I could use BK disabler 2 and the plugin to disable sub-services. This no longer works, no matter how I tried to bring it back. I tried getting the older versions, but it always tries to activate a licence and fails. I also do not trust the BK developers at all and don't really want to use it anymore (notSABS has a great PKG Disabler and I use that but it has no services control).
So, could we somehow still find a way to disable specific services? I used to have about 90 Google play sub-services disabled and that kept my battery steady and reliable.
I am now getting random bursts of drain again and I do not want to be exposed to this bs anymore.
If there is no way to do it I might as well sacrifice KNOX and root my Exynos S8, just to have the control I am supposed to have, having paid full-price for this phone.
If anyone has found a way to stop this insane GPS drain, please share, because I have literally ran out of options save for rooting. Any possible option and tweak has been made and this bs keeps lurking back and stealing my battery life for nothing that benefits me in any way whatsoever.
Even my GF was using the actual Gmaps and location to navigate us while driving, and she had LESS google play services battery drain than I had for the same day, without me using any navigation at all. It's ridiculous and I want this cancer away from my phone.
I don't have a solution to your problem. I'm still in nougat. Perhaps you have a list of this 90 Google play services,
Thanks,
I run nougat, I have a bk disabler pro that can disable services in all apps, but not with google play services, I think the last update in google play services has a counter meassure to avoid this, before updating google play services, bk was capable in disabling services in it

Question Updated "Foundation" in Fox's Mmm and seemingly destroyed all Google based applications. Further screw ups ensued.

I'm on OneUI 4.1, Android 12, Kernel version 5.10.43 on a non cellular Tab S8. I noticed recently that my root cloaking modules weren't doing a great job, as I couldn't seem to get into a Dynasty Warriors app I'd downloaded, it simply wouldn't download the content in game. So I went and updated literally everything in my Fox app. I noticed immediately that Google Play Services was crashing repeatedly. So I uninstalled the module. This lead to my tablet saying Magisk is not installed. So I re-downloaded and re-installed Magisk. I turned Foundation back on, that didn't fix anything. It may even have just broken it more for all I know. I did notice that when it was off though, that my internet would not connect to my wifi automatically anymore.
So I downloaded a bunch of different versions of Google Play Services and Play Store to try to get one that matched. Of course, I had to use Lucky Patcher to uninstall the current broken versions. Eventually, it settled in on:
com.google.android.gms_23.17.15_(190400-534251769)-231715044_minAPI31(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk
This seemingly fixed my issue. But I had some other problems. The useless intent filter was still crashing. My OS seemed less stable as it restarted at least once for seemingly no reason, notifications for apps sorta just didn't show up sometimes even when I changed app settings to stop it from trying to save battery life, and the moment I minimized an app, it would need to reload once I put it back up. Didn't matter which app.
So I decided that I would attempt to get rid of Foundation again. I mean, I already had working versions of the apps. So I probably don't need it right? I figured since it installed weird versions of the old ones in the first place, it might be causing my issues.
This was a bad idea, because I had to try to reinstall Magisk again, which failed, but it didn't matter because Fox started saying I'm rooted again anyway after a reboot. So I turned it back on, and proceeded to reinstall the same Google Services APK. Except now it wasn't working.
I then spelunked the internet to try and find a solution, someone mentioned uninstalling Services, Play Store, AND Framework, then reinstalling. So I've now tried several versions, particularly of Framework 12 and around the time period I bought my tablet, but Gmail still gives me the error "Gmail needs Google Services to run, your device does not support Google Services." I tried a couple versions of 11 too and I even tried using Lucky Patcher to install specifically as system, but it seems like it doesn't matter much whether I install them via package installer or Lucky Patcher. I've also attempted to manually enable permissions for both Services and Framework to no avail.
My main goal is fixing this without losing my data, which I assume is exactly what would happen if I flashed a new rom. So I'm hoping somebody has an idea of what could be done here. In the meantime, I will continue trouble shooting.
(Additionally, I can't seek to get any version of Fox above 1.0.3 or so to work without it saying something crashed and asking me to report it to the dev.)
Update:
Google Play Services stopped repeatedly crashing when I installed:
com.google.android.gms_23.22.15_(190400-538334167)-232215044_minAPI31(arm64-v8a,armeabi-v7a)(nodpi)_apkmirror.com.apk)
However, it still says my device is unsupported.
