Hello, my name is Luis, I hope everyone is quite well like me, I wanted to ask what is currently the best Pure Android ROM for the device "Xiaomi Redmi Note 9" that has the following features:
- Optimized, light and fluid.
- Good battery life
- NO overheating (except for games)
- Good performance in demanding games
There are many things I do not know yet, can you tell me important things to consider.
Thanks to for the attention, I look forward to a prompt reply.
Well, Project Elixir is probably the best one, even though it got discontinued in January and it's not stable, I use it as my daily driver as I don't want to use the MIUI rabbit hole. It's based on AOSP. In other words, it's just a modded Pixel Experience ROM. You won't definitely game on that phone lol. That MediaTek chipset has already issues on the stock MIUI. The install guide is easy if you will follow the instructions on the Telegram. Group name: ppui_merlin. The Google Pay/Wallet works straight without needing to install the safetynet-patch. The ROM comes with Google Play Services, since it's just Pixel Experience after all.
Okay, thanks for taking the time to write, I hope it will be very useful... I will follow the step by step... I've been trying for more than 3 months to install a custom recovery to the terminal but, I never end up succeeding. The device currently has the bootloader unlocked but it still doesn't work. I already did several times the process with XiaomiTools v2 and it does not work, I was going to do it through commands with CMD but, I had to install some drivers which were not allowed to install because apparently you have to remove other drivers that prevent the installation of the drivers I need, I use a generic cable and another original of the same brand Xiaomi but, this charger is from a Redmi Note 10... it should still work but unfortunately it never works with both cables.
I would like to know how I can completely remove the drivers that my device does not need and at the same time remove the XiaomiTools V2 program permanently both.... To start again with the method of installing the custom recovery by ADB commands with the CMD.
Do you have a more convenient place where I can communicate with you? It would be very useful. Again, thank you very much

The maintainer of the PPUI was the same one for Project Elixir. PPUI got abandoned 1 month before the PE. I can't say whether there's a huge difference between them as the Founder of PE is also a Co-founder of the PPUI. The sites also share a similar design, meaning they're really close to each other. Forgot to mention that PE got abandoned around 2/3 months ago. December was the last month when there was a release of 3.4.

I would probably say that LineageOS is the baren bones one. You would need to install GApps. But it's still in development and there are only nightly (every week) releases for now. So far, I'm surprised that someone is still interested in this junk MediaTek chipset and still trying to make it at least somehow good for use.
hahaha, it's because I still don't have the money to buy another mobile but well, the case, do you know about any port for the redmi note 9? that is a13 or a14

LineageOS is like pure android, extremely light and gets updated often, although I can only find the download link for a NIGHTLY build, meaning it gets updated really often meaning that it can have bugs, I cant find a stable build for some reason anywhere, probably not out yet for LOS 20, and you cant download older versions on the los site sadly

After some months, yes.
Thanks!

CM should be able to bring full featured Marshmallow to it (not cut-down version Xiaomi delivers), should have no bloadware, no backdoors and should be able to provide some normal camera app which will fully utilizes provided hardware.

Why aren't manufactuers releasing their kernels? I'm waiting frustratedly on kernels over at Oneplus 2 aswell. Need CM there so bad.

There are a lot of answers to this question and each and every brand has it's own.
It can vary from: We want people to have our Stock OS, to we like to violate the GPLv2, to we are horrible bad a writing code (nobody shall see that),.... and goes on forever.
In Xiaomis case I think it is much more simple: It's a Chinese company! (That says a lot, if you want more ask.)
It's a pity to see!

I have been using MI 3 for around 2 years now. And certainly don't see any necessity of changing the phone. But I doubt xiaomi will release the source code for MI 5. They didn't release it for mi pad despite of so many fan requests. Moreover, the bootloader is locked. What a way of ruining the beasty hardware.

In terms of updates, xiaomi is quite fast. Global devs version is updated weekly. And marshmallow based MIUI 7 is a completely different android experience.

I do not get why Nexus users don't try MIUI before buying the phone! There are so many of em! And only a few try outMIUI before buying a phone that is limited to MIUI.

Xiaomi also gives long support, the Mi 5 will surely get Android N and whatever comes after. As long as you like MIUI, having a XIaomi is great!
It is no surprise the thread was closed so fast. Xiaomi is 'subsidizing' their mobile phone sales with the long-term outlook of being the new Chinese-Google, in the same way that console makers do not make enough profit off their consoles to allow for carefree business operation. Rather they sell software, services and additional hardware at a steep price.
Without the premise of providing services in a given country and a lucrative outlook, said country will not be supported as an official Xiaomi sales country.
However most likely the kernel-source topic is already collectively covered in an FAQ somewhere, - and reading and searching is part of the forum's etiquette - to which one agrees upon registering.
As ultimateSpace said, one can agree that MIUI is good. Xiaomi started out as a company by merely providing MIUI as a software product. However Android has radically improved since version 3.x.
However MIUI is such a radically different take in user design (UI)) and interaction (UX). Android is increasingly complex. Let's be honest. Who here hasn't youtubed some Android related instructions at some point or another.
Speaking for myself I really am not keen on learning two platforms, especially when undoubtedly ASOP + Google stack / Google Android outshines the competition.

If we get official CM we will see long term support aswell. They're giving out updates very generously.
I haven't seen much work done on ASUS phones for LineageOS ROM releases. I particularly couldn't find a ROM for the first ROG Phone. Now, after much waiting, the ROG Phone II is available. What needs to be done in order to be able to flash the ASUS ROG Phone II with a custom ROM?
I would like to upgrade my phone, but doing it without an alternative to the default OS is a no-go, for me.

Nope. Asus doesn't send out units to devs, like other companies do. If they did, we probably would have many roms.

I do have a person who could 100% get lineage on it, but we would need to him a device.
TBH, I'm a custom rom flasher too! BUT, there's so many options to customize ROG II that I don't feel the need to flash other roms - for now at least...
Also note, we have air triggers which make the rom even harder to code...

My point, is Google should make a phone like this. New pixel 4 6gb ram...2.0ufs, and 64gb storage. What a joke
So, I don't really care about the accessories. If I could just get an /e/ or LineageOS port, I'm satisfied with just having the powerful hardware. I've thought long and hard about it, but there's just absolutely no way I'd run a phone with its default OS.
If I could afford it, I'd certainly try to see what I could do about getting another one, but I'd feel awkward about not having any guarantees.
Is there no way I could get a walkthrough for how I can accomplish this custom ROM on my own?
Right now, there's no ROM development going for this device. Still you (developers) can build ROMs because this device has stock vendor source which can be used with any customized System OS.
There's also unofficial TWRP for which you can use it to modify the stock ROG 2 system as your liking. Like disabling & removing system bloat apps, flashing Magisk root, using Edxposed framework & GravityBox, etc.
ROM development has halted because devs dont want to waste their time working on Android 9 when ASUS has been beta testing Android 10 when developers received their phones. They are waiting for Android 10 kernel source code.
You can see this by checking their GitHubs, LineageOS was in development 3 weeks ago, its up to ASUS to finish their update first.

That is the general idea.
So your are not prepared to put your money where your month was ( Google should have made this phone) then just chill and enjoy until. I mean whats the point of moaning about something someone hasn't not done, when you can not do it yourself.
From my opinion the system comes with the phone is good enough because it provides the stock android option. Especially the android q updated recently.

i have only found 4 custom roms for the phone. all AOSP roms just different variations
1. pixel experience (best. not as updated as lineageOS.)
1a. lineageOS (best. updated regularly)
2. Calxyos (big on security and removing google tracking. microg and other non tracking security apps installed. updated regularly)
3. GrapheneOS (not the best due to having to install microg and the rest of the mircog stuff to get playstore games and apps to work)
really its a toss up between experience and lineage. unless you want to go stealth. then it would be calxyos.
with aosp being the only choice base rom for the phone its extremely limited. unless a recognized developer gets his hand on one and ports over a different rom. your stuck with aosp variations

same here. i came from HTC, but ATT pushed my phone off their network with a load of crap how it didnt support 4g or LTE phone calls. when it actually did. they just wouldn't whitelist the phone so you could use that feature or wifi calling. so in a scramble to find a new phone i landed with this pixel. biggest POS i ever owned. i thought samsung was garbage until i got this one. its slower than my HTC U11. screen is smaller. it's sad when a 5 year older phone is better than something released in 2021. i have had nothing but problems with it since day 1. text messaging keyboard disappears. text messages disappear. text phones and link disappear. i have to open and close the app 3 or so times to get the message to pop up. maps is a train wreck. half the time i can't close the app or it goes into split screen mode and then you can't do anything. you have to reboot the phone to use it again. updating any of their apps the phone gets worse. every factory rom update is worse than the last one. they never update the base apps with each rom update so im stuck with the same broken crap android 11,12,12L all the same problems. now i know why HTC sold off their crap phones division to Google and kept the flagship phones under their wing, because they found a sucker to buy their garbage low end phone. so google could launch their rebranded HTC phones as garbage pixels.
team twrp would have to get their hands on one of these phones so they could make a proper device tree for it even then i noticed their is some key parts to the factory rom that seem to be missing or embedded into other parts of the images so porting a rom would not be an easy task. then to port a rom you would have to find another phone with similar specs as this one to make it even possible. so you are more or less stuck with Googles source codes for rom building. so then your are basically just building another AOSP rom variation.
all version i listed pull from the same source code when i go to manually build their roms. so really the are all the same rom with just their add-ons and removals of stuff with a few teaks here and there.
so for now our only hope is that on black friday they are selling this phone for $100 and some developers decide to pick one up and start some development on this phone outside AOSP builds.

Problem is that this phone is sold only in USA and Japan and I doubt that community regarding rom development is high in those countries. So only enthusiasts who import 5a from one of those two countries can maybe work on it.
Also, this phone is carbon copy of 4 5g (plus bigger battery and IP ratting) even though looking at how they were build they are not the same, but main components and sensors are. So maybe porting 4a 5g ROM will be better than to build from scratch.

A company like (SAMSUNG) that has spent more than 13 years in the field of screens and phones cannot be compared with a company (GOOGLE) that has spent only 4 or 5 years.
I chose this device only for its size, battery and water resistance, but I did not expect that the Android system in it is so bad and not optional

it's more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. on my dual cpu 16 core system it takes 2 hrs just to build it. i usually just follow the steps on the pixel experience wiki page. if you want to mod it even more you would have to learn to program in c and c++. then with everything being open source borrow someone else's mod to include into your rom. then spend hours or even days troubleshooting, debugging or fixing code. if things are not compatible.
i wish i could get a stripped to nothing rom that only makes phone calls. that's it. the rest of the garbage you can download as an app or get a magisk module to do the rest.i don't need googles BLOATWARE garbage along with all of the garbage they cram down my phone's throat to slow it down to snail pace then go oh your phone is outdated that is why it's slow. so buy this other $1000 phone and that will fix your problem. i go yeah right. the thing is a year old. how in the hell is it out dated. my piece of sh*t 10 year old laptop works just fine. once i got off bloatware winblows 10 and install winblow 10 ltsc without the extra garbage no one ever uses.

Hello,
I've been missing for quite a long time from XDA, but I'm about to get a new phone soon (maybe another OnePlus?) and I came here to check for new custom ROMs updates.
But it seems I cannot find any custom ROM for the OnePlus 10 Pro (yet?), why is that?
Thanks for the info.
No msm unbrick tool, no sources and so on.
Oneplus sucks every phone a little bit more! 10 pro is definitely my last OP phone
You can try GSI roms, but they're buggy (e.g. fingerprint sensor is not working)
Also you cannot unbrick your phone unless you send it to 1+ which makes development hard
Source tree is different default compilable sources.i hope someone could port it.
All of the above! Everything is different now a days with "all" OEM's, Google, Carrier's, etc.
But if some motivated Developers get the device, then who knows what mods will come our way....
Also, Magisk Modules are the modding wave !
Cheers

There are already custom ROM for Xiaomi 12/Pro which also use Snapdragon 8 gen 1 so maybe there's luck but OnePlus sources are lacking and I asked Luke1337 and he is not interested in blind building since he ain't got the device.

It's truly a sad time to be an android user....
But i've got a little thought in the back of my head that i can't shake, i think things will change.
No idea how it'll happen, may take a while, maybe after the release of the T / R 10 devices.
Time will tell, but yep it's certainly a crap time for Android; when a google flagship and oneplus devices don't have a single official ROM (pixel has AOSP unofficial afaik) it's time to re-evaluate your purchases a lot more carefully.

Yeah, I remember the old times here on XDA, there was so many threads proposing many different flavors.
I used to flash and try new ROMs almost everyday...
Now I have to get a new phone, I came here to check and I've realized it all changed.
It's even hard to find ROMs for Google Pixels and OnePlus phones, I don't know what happened but it's kinda frustrating...
Guys just relax and give some time for developers.good news for sm8450 chipset is someone ported device and vendor tree for Xiaomi phones.i hope not far our phones .just relax.

Honestly mate, I've had enough phones to know that it should have happened by now.
I'm very patient, no problem in waiting, but every single OnePlus device has had several ROMs by this point bar none

Don't worry, we are just talking and comforting each other...
But well, I remember ROMs used to be posted here (almost) even before phones were available to be bought.
And since it seems that Google Pixels too lack of ROMs, I have a feelings things has changed lately somehow... but we all hope you are right man!
Why do you need google roms? are they better?
Otherwise it finds 2-3 threads about to change to global or EU version.
But that is not you want?

Google has made a lot of changes to the OS that just make everything a headache for custom ROM devs so that's not helping. The writing is on the wall for the Android ROM community and once Google finally forces hardware attestation the inability to easily hide root or unlocked bootloaders at all will kill off a lot more interest. The future of mobile phones is one of two separate walled gardens.

The only issue is erofs partitions. Everything else can be edited to change values. Maybe devs will have to find a way to make the rw. That's the issue I see for the future. But pa said they made a build with erofs for op7 so maybe they are looking into it.

There's also the fact that A/B partitions lead to plenty of bricks and the devs get blamed for it plus the issues that come with AVB 2.0, manufacturers not releasing full kernel sources... It's all a circus.
What skills or things do I need other than the phone in question to be able to develope a custom-rom for this phone? I would be interested to learn more about this.

Lots of knowledge and time and Linux.
Xiaomi 12 pro has A/B partitions which does not facilitate the task

Thanks @NOSS8
I'm okay with spending time on projects that i would use or share with others and linux is not a new thing to me neither.
The other questions is does this phone have all neccesary components etc avaible to develop a rom for it as well?
I have seen and used xiaomi.eu but it is kinda the same as oem rom but extra goodies from china rom and all agressive battery saving options still remain killing all apps.

Not sure that's enough.
I'm seeing with a developer for an AOSP rom, I'll let you know.
So,the answer:
Hi, have checked and no trees or kernel yet for this device.
Would be able to make but atm not much time. Once trees and kernel would be available though building like crDroid would be no problem.
Following this answer I provided with 2 Github links.
https://github.com/MiCode/vendor_qcom_opensource_wlan/tree/zeus-s-oss
https://github.com/MiCode/Xiaomi_Kernel_OpenSource/tree/zeus-s-oss
Atm it will be a no. Not sure how it will go in time.
Ofc thx for the offer and maybe we'll speak each other soon.
I contacted 5 others developers.
1/Too busy.
2/Too busy.
3/Too busy.
4/Waiting for a response

No news from the developer who had accepted.
Coming from Oneplus phones going all the way back to the 2, I knew jumping to this phone it wasn't going to be the same development experience. But I can tell you from years of watching forums and development that this phone is DOA for development. If anything was going to happen it would have happened long before now like in the spring.
We will be dependent upon official Xiaomi releases supplemented by the Xiaomi.EU customization for as long as we own this phone. There will never be a custom rom. Accept that or get a Pixel 7 before the sale is over.

The biggest problem with this phone is the autonomy even with a Xiaomi Eu rom, maybe with an AOSP it would have been better.
Performance and autonomy, difficult to reconcile the two despite what Qualcomm says and given the comparisons with other Socs.
More performance and better battery life of course, but the reality is different, all of this is just commercial, note that almost all brands that will use the Gen 2 switch to larger batteries, while it is said that it will consume less than the Gen 1, amazing isn't it?
The optimization also seems to have been abandoned by Xiaomi too busy selling its multitude of phones.
As far as development is concerned, the phone is expensive and despite the source code being released 1 month after its release, it is incomplete.
Currently the flagships all have the same problem, autonomy.
