Hello folks;
I was wondering if it is possible to re-lock the bootloader after flashing the latest PixelExperience from (or any other). When I do so, my phone will only boot to recovery and not to the actual Android OS.
Have I missed something obvious, or is having the bootloader unlocked the only way to run this rom?
Thanks for taking the time to read this.
Have a great day folks!
Bootloader can only be relocked in stock ROM, locking it after flashing a custom ROM is a very dangerous operation

So I unlocked(htcdev) and rooted(twrp) and now I wounder if I should re-lock for security? I read that the boot-loader could have an authorized os list. Since both the system and recovery are os's would a re-lock put twrp out of control?
Thanks
I'd like to know this also. Fortunately relocking seems to be easy.

Never relock with custom roms or custom recovery still installed on your phone, this will result in bootloop.
Only way to stop this bootloop will be to unlock again but unlocking the bootloader require the stock recovery to be installed.
So with custom recovery installed and bootloader relocked = bootloop = can't unlock again. You'll have to reflash the whole firmware in ruu mode to get back the stock recovery over the custom one and then you'll be able to re-unlock to stop the bootloop.
So short answer, don't relock when not 100% stock
Ich, thanks! Glad I asked first instead of taking the chance..

Is it possible to install Magisk and then relock the bootloader?
This is on OPWS27.1.3 (March update, Android 8.0)
Aka:
1) unlock bootloader
2) flash Magisk boot
3) install Magisk
4) relock bootloader
The general advice is to not lock the bootloader with custom or modded ROMs. If you want to throw caution to the wind, you probably want to have a stable, custom recovery first.
The dangers of locking it is that you will probably get stuck with a soft bricked device.

Ah, that's unfortunate. I was hoping to be able to essentially add sudo usable via adb when debugging is enabled leaving everything else intact. Is it possible to gain root privileges without unlocking the bootloader or using a modded ROM?
Hello. Recently I have flashed Global ROM over European ROM (I have bootloader locked) and it destroyed my whole system and recovery! I had just access to Fastboot. Recently I've found that when I type "fastboot continue" It would continue to system, and it booted! Recovery is working too! But the rom is now Global ROM, and not EU one. I have question. After period of waiting time in Mi Unlocker Tool If I would like to go back to European ROM and LOCK THE BOOTLOADER, will it brick my phone?
Why, do you want to lock the bootloader again??
No, it will no brick your device if you are on stock.
You may brick it, if you lock when on AOSP roms.

Because I want to be safe! I bricked all of my Xiaomi phones and I don't want to do that again, so better be safe.
Thank you for your reply.
can i install eu xiaomi roms without unlockbootloader and if unlocked can lock it again
You can't install eu ROM (custom ROM) without unlocking bootloader. And if you use any other ROM then the initial one meant for your phone don't relock bootloader. Or also you will brick your phone.

Hi there,
My current setup is that I've installed LineageOS with microG on the Asus Zenfone 8 according to https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/sake/install
My question: Is it safe to relock the bootloader with "fastboot oem asus-csc_lk" when lineageos is installed and will the device still boot afterwards?
I'm mostly concerned about Evil Maid attacks I'd like to prevent as much as possible and I'd like to lock down my device if possible. I've already read:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/relock-zenfone8.4355511/
https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/n7yo7u
But to me it is not entirely clear if the "Evil Maid" attack would work without me noticing and could happen anytime someone accesses my phone physically, or if that would still require them to wipe my data first.
cheers,
floyd
Never lock bootloader if not on stock: unaltered, unrooted state.
All other cases: "bricked"
I had previously unlocked the bootloader to install LineageOS for testing, but then decided to reinstall stock ROM from Asus, including the recovery.
The LineageOS installation procedure included updating the "vendor_boot" image... do I need to do anything about this before attempting to re-lock the bootloader? I don't know how to check on this part...
Thanks for any help.
