Hello everyone! - Introductions

Ok, so I know enough about developing to really mess up my phone. Realistically I'd like to learn how to navigate through my phone's settings and be able to spot when something is amis, or everything is great.

[Q] Cool things to do with Cyan's 4.0.1

Very new to root and roms. I upgraded to 4.0.1 very soon after having 3.6.8.1.
What are some of the neat things you can do? What settings have you changed? I JUST found out that there was another keyboard other than the android touch.
I did not know where this was appropriate and did not want to junk up cyans rom thread. Hope this is okay and apologies if its not. Just want to know what other cool features I am missing out on, and to also see what settings people roll with.

Best way to get the whole story is to compare the changelog of 3.6.8.1 to 4.0.1 which is available in their respective threads. One thing that was cool was the global search function from donut but that go reverted in 4.0.1. It will probably make an appearance in the 4.x.x experimental series however.....
I should clarify, I did not have 3.6.8.1 long enough to find all the easter eggs either. What settings do you change or things do you use after flashing his rom?

Hey DirectMatrix is this going to be another thread like yesterday.
yeah i'd also like to know.. im also new to the art of the root.. i also have my own questions
i know the myfaves app doesnt work, in fact doesnt even appear lol, but the actual myfaves service still works right?
and do the im apps work? im talking about the native one. it doesnt seem to be working for me =/
also, i want my settings optimized for overall speed.. what do you guys use for this?

You don't want the mygayes app on your phone anyways, its just a hog. It still does work, if you need to set it up just go to your online account and do it.
What native im app are you talking about, its been to long since I had the factory rom installed. But I can vouch for aim and googletalk do work.
If you are on Cyanogens rom everything should be optimized to full speed.
yeah i never used the myfaves thing to begin with, thats why when i heard its gone if you root, i didnt really care lol. plus i was already planning on getting rid of the whole service anyway. but thanks!
im talking about the one that comes with the phone. has aim, msn, and yahoo. i try logging but it just endlessly keeps saying "signing in..". im not sure if i just have to wait, or if its not working.
awesome!

This is shaping up to be exactly like the thread from yesterday.
^ which was not the intention... I am fully aware of IM and MyFaves. I mean very literally, do you alter/change anything when loading cyans rom? I.E., turning off the android keyboard.

LOL, yessir. I'm trying to hold back. Who knows I might let one fly at anytime.
I guess I'll chime in. One of the reasons I flashed to this rom over an old roger's rom was for VPN. That and the sweet power widget.
Thanks again for the help yesterday guys.

I'm dying over in this thread. I'm trying to help, but everyone thinks its a free for all mostly because of this stupid recovery flasher app that everyone thinks is godly. Its drawing way too many n00bs. Actually, I don't even think we can call them n00bs, they're more like sub-n00bs!!!!!!!!

Got start some where.
Direct and Supreme... you guys aren't really helping, so why post? I'm not asking how to root.... i've read the release notes.... I'm not asking anything I think is silly. I just want to know what settings you guys change and if there are any things you find particularly cool with his rom. I am embarrassed I just found out how to use the keyboard, so I guess you can pick on that... but please, do it over PM and not here.

Point taken...my appologies...Supreme and I like to keep things lighthearted and have some fun. I'm sure I speak for him when I say we both apologize for offending you.
To answer your question....I was pretty much being completely serious about reading the change logs and comparing. That's where I get most of my info but as far as settings go, I second someone else's poste about the badass power widget. I also like the 5 homescreen options, the logcollector app is nice for troubleshooting, the fact that the buld.prop file has been changed slightly means that the new version of "My Account" runs properly without any futzing around, and playing around with the text app is fun because of the mms enhancements courtesy of rgv151.
Many of the other enhancements that make cyan's ROMs awesome are behind the scenes that just make it run faster (kernel tweaks, CPU scaling etc). These have no options available to the user, they just are part of the build that contribute to cyanoganized awesomeness.

Just like Direct said we ain't tryna make fun or nothing. We do help out alot, but after a long boring day of programming at work we got to do something fun to help pass time away. And hey we really didn't even joke around unlike the other thread. Best thing to do is just play around with the phone, try out all the apps, play with the settings, and just explore. Like Direct said alot of things are behind the scenes.

i want to root my nc

hello, i want my nc rooted. but i am very uneasy about me doing it myself cause i am afraid i might mess it up. i am hoping to find someone that lives close by that will walk me through it or do it for me. i'm in reading,pa. is there anyone here that is close by that doesnt mind helping?
If you follow the instructions then it is reasonably straightforward and there is nothing that is going to disable or break your Nook.
I would do it for you but I am in VA not PA!

I managed to root my NC by just following the directions nookdevs.com/NookColor_Rooting << Here. It was very easy with their GREAT fact and all... And even one of my tech buddies walked me thru via chat on turning my Imagio into a free hot spot. So now I can access the internet any where.
I really wish I could thank everyone who put that page together! You made it easy to follow!
ok thank you, i will try.
Do it and if you have issues, folks here will help

I am in NJ, but as others have said its very easy to do.
If you still can't figure it out, and you want to travel to NJ, I could help you.

4.1.83 Non-market apps check box

For those of you like me that cant stand that the check box for non market apps is completely gone in 4.1.83 and apparently Atrix did not make the Today OTA fix from ATT this is a quick how to to correct this over-site
#Need SQLite Editor from market & Root
1. Open SQLite Editor
2. Scroll down to Settings Storage (com.motorola.android.providers.settings)
3. Click settings.db
4. Click Settings
5. Scroll to _ID 107 "force_only_market_apps"
6. Press hold and select option change value
7. change value to 0
8. Save
9. Enjoy
Umm the non market application check box is there for me? what are you talking about
don't know what to say to that , mine was not there in the menu at all ever sense the latest update... either way it is still another way to enable non market apps from anywhere with out using a separate program
please search before posting, this was already posted and for a few weeks has been included in gladenabler.
Mines there too

thanks for your concern... how ever everyone may not want to use gladenabler , many people also dont use windows, and this does not require a computer at all, if what i posted is not for you than dont use it this was a problem i had and the solution i used to fix it, really isn't a need for you to waste your precious time to post a negative post is there ?
wow guys ways to be dicks... my god, the man just wanted to share something he found out with us! AND he is a respected dev!

Yea, I posted this a while back in a couple of the other sideloading treads as another option. The only thing I think you need to add to your OP is that you need to be rooted to do it.
It's not a bad idea to have a separate tread for this, but maybe it should be in the themes and apps tread since it is really just an app? (maybe that is just me)
And this is a VERY easy way to enable it.

thanks t0dbld this post was useful, and thanks for all your contributions to atrix development.
Hay thanks and @Gr8Danes sorry for the redundancy than , despite popular thought i did search first and only saw the manual way listed (SQLite on mac or linux and using adb) ... must have missed it, anyhow i just posted this because if your like me and working on your phone than you probably wipe and re-flash on an almost daily basis, this has than screwed me because i was than out and about and went to install something i needed from sd card and it was locked, so .. this was how i enabled it from the road... its never been a huge secret just a matter of looking any how like i said its here and if it helps you like it did me GREAT if not suck it up because currently XDA only has a Thank You button and doesn't support the "I already Knew that Dummy" button
Thank you. I couldn't find the original post to enable it. Glad you posted this!

Hay, no problem man, it was buried in the tread, so that's why I thought that it wasn't a bad idea for a tread for it alone. Besides, it happens to even us that search and search for stuff in treads, and still can't find what we were looking for, but we gave it a valiant effort.
You devs have my greatest respect, so don't think I was trying to say anything negative. Keep up the good work man, you guys have taught me so much.

Yay for trolls.
Cool stuff thanks T0dbld. And for the people that already have it on their phones without running anything to enable it I believe this only applies to AT&T phones they're the only ones that block 3rd party
But thats just my 2 cents

since there were previously 11 posts explaining how to do this (yes, 11), and without even needing to install an app from the market, rather just plain adb, yes this wasn't needed

Thanks man and don't even care about the d*ckheads, they're everywhere. Keep us updated with your findings please.

Are we stalling ?

Haven't seen many updates, feel like the devs are finally moving on.
Is this really the end ?
Of course not!
I remember when I started web devving. I was faced with a problem: I wanted a website, but couldn't find anyone who would do what I wanted. So I learnt myself, and now I own a successful web design business.
The moral of this story is: If you think there is a need for it, just teach yourself some java, c++, etc and you're good to go!
As you can see on git, scooter is doing a lot of work but also:

Thanks for letting me join this site, I think it's awesome but I don't really like the change in color like it use to be, but don't get me wrong, I don't know what some people would do if a site like this seased to exist, I know I would be lost without it.Thank you so much for your services, and hope you had a beautiful weekend
