It depends what do you mean b 'root'
To install Magisk (root = superuser) and to be able to install Magisk modules or to flash custom ROMs
Anyway, you must start with the same - unlocking Bootloader.
For that and after for flashing, you will need Fastboot drivers installed to your PC
No need to ask about - google, look here at XDA for existing guides, questions and answers. There are tons of material about

By the way, you have completely missed the place - this is here forum for Mi 9, you are asking about Redmi 9at
Different name = different size, look, processor (even Qualcomm vs Mediately), battery, display, EVERYTHING DIFF
Do not even think to use (custom) ROMs from here (for Mi 9) on your Redmi 9 (at) - you will instantly brick your phone
Compare Xiaomi Mi 9 vs. Xiaomi Redmi 9AT - GSMArena.com
www.gsmarena.com
And be careful to avoid bricking your Xiaomi phones
Mi <number n> are never the same phone as Redmi <same number n>
Numbers to match might be completely different.
Eg, Mi 9T (Pro) = Redmi K20 (Pro) etc

Thanks for the info, I'll be careful.
But is the procedure to unlock the bootloader different on each smartphone? Is it difficult to unlock the bootloader on this smartphone?

Procedure to unlock Bootloader is the same for Xiaomi phones but totally different for Samsung, etc
Actually, there are also differences for Xiaomi between the Qualcomm and Mediatek chipsets, but I think that the main procedure for unlocking BL (register your Mi account at Xiaomi, use their Fastboot tool for unlocking, request and wait 168 hours =7 days) is the same.
I have two different Xiaomi phones (years 2019 and 2022), unlocking procedure was the same but both are Qualcomm
Maybe that tool for unlocking Mediatek is different - indeed, tools for flashing Mediatek are different. I don't know details (never had Xiaomi with Mediatek)
AFAIK, your Redmi 9at is Mediatek (Mi 9 family as here are Qualcomm), hence also pay attention to that when looking for guides and instructions

All right, thank you.
If in the future I would like to go back with the original stock rom and locked bootloader (like new) how should I proceed? Thanks again.

On Xiaomi it is possible to go back to stock and to relock Bootloader
But still, Xiaomi has a record on their servers that phone was unlocked - since you have to request from them, but it's for free (and I don't know but frankly didn't care how it may reflect to warranty)
On Samsung, they have one-time 'fuse' and even once BL is relocked, apps can still 'read' that BL had been unlocked in the past
Btw, I somewhere read that on (Xiaomi) Mediatek it might be possible to flash custom ROM and relock BL (without going back to stock).
Be aware that banking apps, some games, even loyalty apps (like for Ikea, McDonnalds) and so are 'hunting' to find that phone has been modified and don't run then (just crashing or saying that phone is not safe)
With Magisk, there are modules to hide that. Even some custom ROMs come with built-in spoofs
The worst case is when people unlock Bootloaders but stay on official ROM, being afraid to install custom ROM and/or Magisk (and don't want to relock BL either) and then cry why they cannot use banking apps anymore
Btw, be aware that for unlocking and relocking BL, your Data will be fully wiped (storage and Data partition - hence all user installed apps, docs, photos, settings, WiFi passwords, etc)

Good evening, do you have the scatter file of the redmi 9at Miui Global 12.5.7.0 RCDEUXM stock rom please? Thank you.

I need some more help:
- I would like to restore a backup from the old smartphone to the new one, but I should especially restore the settings data of certain apps (for example the settings of icsee, other camera apps and pages saved in Opera bookmarks) which are important for me.
Is it possible to reset app settings? Thanks again.

Redmi Note 9 - official USB drivers and other things such as MIflash Tool !

Hello, I'm new to "MI" or "MIUI" world in general.
Ok, I'm an advanced user, but not a dev. And I bought this phone for my Sister (61 year old).
I don't want to unlock it and oblige her to make manual updates just for the sake of TWRP full back-ups.
I just wish to provide my sister a hassle free smartphone and provide her some help.
And the first is getting original USB and adb drivers for use on her PC.
Unfortunately, I cannot find any "official" redmi or xiaomi site where to download these !
In a frenzy I don't get, there seems to be a lot of sites and pages where one can download "so-called official things" ...
Please help me enter this Chinese World of thinking AND find a trustable site for downloading trustable drivers, stock apps, such as MiFlash, etc. !
;-)
For drivers I personally would recommend this post.Post by fawazahmed0

The miui software isn't very difficult to understand.
Mi by itself doesn't provide loots off software basically the community provides since the start of xiaomi the goodies. The rest it's android 10
The red mi isn't the big flagship of xiaomi/red mi.So updates and roll out of android 11 will take time.
Mi pcsuite you can try it but most have connection problems.
Mi flash is a stable and nice software especially when things go wrong.make sure windows recognise your phone in fastboot mode.
There are plenty off software back up around on the web.
Roms you can find on mi.com
Something to look in to search for how to remove bloatware on xiaomi phones.

Redmi K20 Pro - This MIUI version can't be installed on this device

I have a Redmi K20 Pro 8GB RAM 256GBROM
It came with a 12.0 Global MIUI
I ran the bootloader unlocker from Xiaomi, it worked the first time
Then I flashed it with: miui_RAPHAELGlobal_V12.5.2.0.RFKMIXM_edbf5f63e8_11.0.zip
It locked the bootloader.
I now only get the menu: MIUI Recovery 5.0
I can no longer run the bootloader unlock, it fails on the second step and says "Please add your account in MiUI's Settings > Developer options > Mi Unlock status. The phone won't boot even using safe mode.
I don't remember if I ever signed in to the phone with my Mi account, I suspect not.
I'd like to confirm that I used the right ROM, does the K20 Pro and the 9T Pro use the same ROM?
So how can I unlock the bootloader?
What do I need to flash on this to go to 12.5. I don't use What's App so I don't care about those issues.
Is 12.5 and option? If not where can I get the latest ROM I can use?
Supposidely you used Mi Flash. You have two options there, like Clean All and Lock (unfortunately, offered by default) and just Clean All
Apparently you overlooked and left Clean All and Lock and as a result you locked your Bootloader
That's a common mistake and the way many people brick their phones. If anything goes wrong while flashing (wrong firmware, error in download, problems with cable, whatever), the result will be:
- phone cannot boot because of that error in flashing
- you cannot flash again since you already re-locked your Bootloader
Fortunately, I have no first-hand experience but I've seen many similar posts/questions and answers
AFAIK, you have two options now.
One, to look for somebody with EDL authorized account to remotely flash and unbrick your phone.
It will be a paid service and due to the XDA policies all posts providing such contacts are purged from XDA. You have to look to eg Telegram support groups to find them
The other option is in finding and using the so-called firehose file and method.
Tthat way you could unbrick the phone by yourself but you really need to google and/or search on XDA to find more details about
Sorry, that's all I could help you

Please help with recovering data from soft bricked Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Merlin

Hi. On the start i want to apologize for any chaotic description i may give, or mistakes/unclear explanation since for first - english is not my native language and for second i'm terribly tired and depressed as a result of 2 days searching for informations how to solve my problem. Lets get to case.
Patient:
Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 (merlin), complete model "M2003J15SG", it have unlocked bootloader, no root, no custom recovery, probably no granted permisions for adb.
I'm not sure which version of rom it have at the moment i remember only that it was global.
Case:
Few days ago Xiaomi displayed notification about possible upgrade to MIUI 13. That was not the first update that i installed directly just by accepting it, so i decided to give it a go.
After that, my phone went to infinite bootloop (there is a mi logo with "powered by android" that stays there for minute, and then it reboots and situation repeats itself).
Recovery is not working (or i do it wrong -> power+ vol up, maybe it's damaged after this update) i cant get into fastboot either (power + vol down).
However when i connect to pc and press power + vol down windows makes sound of pluging and unpluging device few times (probably its a mode that i can flash it with new rom with flash tool).
If i can (probably) flash whole ROM then what is a problem? :
Main problem is, that i have there very important data there, especially text messages and there is no way i want to lose it.
To give you small tip why it is so important to me i will explain it with a bit of offtopic:
Inside of sms google app i have messages that contains crucial informations, like my ex employer incriminating messages, codes that gain me acess to meds in pharmacy, adresses and so on - i just can't lose it because at the end i could have a pretty big trouble about it, including my ex employer tring to make me a scapegoat for his own decisions in front of a law. End of offtop.
Expectations:
I've so far read that if i will have custom recovery, i would be able to make a backup of data inside of Redmi.
Then i would try to flash entire ROM, but important is that i will have that data backed up.
Since i'm not a master class when it comes to adb, flashing, and so on - i would like to ask you for help.
I mean i know how to flash rom or, unlock bootloader, or root - but i lack knowledge about subjects that matters in this particullar situation,
especially i dont know can i flash only recovery with flash tools, and if so - will it erase internal data,
where to get already prepared scatter and recovery, how to do it - i need extremaly step by step help, so i could understand it and do it.
Is it possible to flash only custom recovery with flashtools without erasing data, and if so - how?
Is it possible to flash ROM without data being erased - if so, how?
Is there any tool i should look into, or maybe when it cames to switching to recovery/fastboot i'm doing something wrong?
Is there ANY and i mean ANY way to or fix bootloop, or at least get custom recovery without permanently losing important data?
Warning:
If you need any more informations - let me know and i will post it.
I've searched with google for 2 days right now and i have no straight answer for a questions.
If i posted question that already was asked - i apologize, truly i am not able to be on highest level of my perception and thats why i would like you to explain things to me like for a 8 years old.
I would appreciate any form of help with a subject. Thank you in advance for a time, knowledge and answers.
Wrong section.
Merlin is Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 and not Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Try here:
Redmi Note 9S / Note 9 Pro (Indian Model)
The Redmi Note 9S / Note 9 Pro (Indian Model) is a 6.67" phone with a 1080x2400p resolution display. The Qualcomm SM7125 Snapdragon 720G chipset is paired with 4/6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of storage. The main camera is 48+8+5+2MP and the selfie camera is 16MP. The battery has a 5020mAh capacity.

Edited - you are right, that's not "Pro", but merlin still. And for sure not indian.
I've updated to MIUI 13 too and I lost all my data too.
I've inspected the problem.
After upgrade to MIUI 13, it modifies the encryption keys for decrypting contents.
So, if you didn't backup these keys, there is no possibility for recovering.

I think that i should at least try to access data since i've seen a lot of weird stuff that shouldnt work in some way, but did.
Would you be kind enough to tell me - is there a way to flash TWRP with flash tool in download mode without touching data partitions?
And if it is, can you explain to me how to do it or give me some link particullary to files for my model (recovery and scatter)?
This MIUI 13 update really surprised me in a bad way, it's even worse to hear i'm not the only one with that problem

Question [ask] change regional rom

Hello, I have stupid question because first time used Xiaomi. Can I change the rom from the Indonesian region to the global region after unlocking the bootloader?
Thank you
Yep its easily doable.
You can use xiaomiflashtool or any other tool you are comfortable using with
Do note that you have a risk of corrupting your mobile (again easily fixable but probably hard for newcomers like you)
In case you don't know you have to wait for a while to unlock the boot loader (about a week) so do that first.
Obviously Backup all your data since changing rom deletes all your existing data.
And incase you have xiaomi mobile not redmi note 10s (if what you wrote above is not typo), then you can use the xiaomi (whatever mobile you have) forum.

Question Any way to unlock the bootloader without the 7 days wait?

So i tried to unlock the bootloader for my Redmi Note 11 (NFC) to flash a custom rom, and i was searching for a method to bypass the 7 days wait like i did with my other redmi that has an MTK cpu. but apparantly qualcomm cpus are harder to unlock and i was searching last night and found about a temporary unlock exploit, but all the tools that do it are paid and there is no free tool to do it, any help would be appreciated !
As far as I know, it's not possible
The unlock key is sent from Xiaomi's servers, so it's not like Mi Unlocker can be hacked, since the server will know when you made the first request for the device

i had a redmi 9c, didn't use the mi flash tool and i used another tool that instantly unlocked it, for context it had a mediatek cpu so it was much easier to find a crack, but now with this note 11 with qualcomm cpu i saw an exploit that uses the mi assistant in recovery mode but all the tools to do it are paid, so just maybe there might be a free tool or another way to do it

I don't know of any tools like that.
On MediaTek you can flash a preunlocked bootloader via Download mode with SP Flash Tool.
I don't know of anything like that for Qualcomm SoCs
There is an emergency download mode for Qualcomm, but I think it's locked

welp, i'll post a solution if i ever find one at least
Today I have finally unlocked Redmi Note 11 after 6 months of use. I didn't had to wait any minute. I guess it's because I already waited 2 weeks 5 years ago with my older device. So, it's an account issue. Nothing can be done.

Not an account issue. It's random: some people get 500+ hours, some people 168 and some people not a single second. I had a Redmi 4X unlocked for 3 years but with my new Redmi Note 11 I had to wait 168 hours again.
It's the account, not random.
