Hi XDA folk,
it's a pleasure to be here and I look forward to my time with you all. Thank you, Tom and Andrew, for your itervening message.
I am a mature hobbyist who was once a computer hardware engineer. I still have an interest in technology (hence, my joining the forum) and I like to tinker. I had minimal exposure to software engineering; the software department worked in Basic, Pascal and Fortran - all very foreign languages to me. I am, however, picking up on coding skills, albeit, slowly; I am a musician.
I am (even at this late stage) looking to make in-roads to cybersecurity, but progress is painfully slow (so much to learn!).
This is me, in a nutshell. Thnks for your time and we'll chat soon, no doubt.
Nice skills set Introduction!
Welcome to XDA and enjoy the forums information!
Cheers
@galaxys
Thank you.
I feel ancient, what with the pace of techonological advancement - including languages and scripts. I did dabble in machine code (burning EPROMs to correct BIOS issues), but that was four decades ago; don't ask me now!

Hi guys,
Would any of you be able to take part in a little survey...? As well as being a member here for many years, I'm also studying for a BA Hons Degree in Graphic Communication and I'm currently writing my final years dissertation (oh, the joy!). It relates to graphical user interface design, something that we all have experience with here, and for this survey I'm gathering evidence of peoples feelings towards their interactions with digital devices. It's pretty simple and shouldn't take long.
Any involvement in this is much appreciated. Who knows, maybe one day I'll end up designing the next big launcher...?? Maybe even my very own ROM..??
That's a long way off, but for now...
Click here to take part in the survey.
Thanks!
Done. Good luck with your paper!

Very well thought out survey. I hope my responses help you with your dissertation!
Thank you, and thanks again for participating! I've had a good response so far.
When is the deadline for this?
My bachelors degree is a mere waste in contrast to d interest i have in, In fact i'm not yet graduated & almost on verge of drop out from college due to lack of interest in d degree i'm pursuing on Civil Engineering.
My basic interest lies in tech which was limited to non technical stuff or basic stuff and have almost zero knowledge in programming but have a urge to master machine learning which is grabbing my mind a lot but have no idea where to start.
May be i sound little crazy as a guy who dreams high but practically applies nothing, Due to hectic schedule & examinations in my college, I wasted my valuable 1st two years due to lack of guidance, & from last 18 months i'm badly into learning about mobiles, android, PC stuff but that is limited to non technical, which even a layman could do if he has interest.
I'm from India and planning to do Masters in US. XDAis the only place i know where i can interact with great programmers who have accomplished something practically,
I'm aiming towards machine learning, So any suggestions where should i start from or any specific forum suggestion where i could get better help other than quora or reddit
Thanx for u'r time and waiting for u'r valuable advice
First of all, I want to thank all of you moderators, developers, modders and long term user out there to maintain this giant project.
I visited this site multiple times per year - for nearly a decade now, finally I made an account.
Long life to XDA, thanks again to all contributors.
Now to myself:
Mainly I code stuff for my company and worked for some bigger company (90+ people) in my country (as a software developer).
I played around and extended an emulator for a game, had the only public test server for it for a while, where people could fool around and I could learn and gain experience in programming and reverse engineering (2007+).
Am also fooling around in setting up my own linux distribution, there are already a few things finished, a few people are using it already, that and some other projects will be published some time soon or hopefully this year haha. A few things still need to be done to be able to do that.
Some of it also includes the pinephone and some other open devices.
I hope you all have a great time and thanks for reading this.
Greetings Archantium
Edit: edited some grammar mistakes and added some missing words
Welcome to XDA! Nice to have all your experience here on the Development forums! Enjoy

Hey there coding people! Hi! I'm James, (SpaceGhostInTheMachine) and I joined the XDA community to gain access to one INCREDIBLE knowledge base. You guys, this community.. is the epitome of what it means to be neighborly. It's astonishing to see such an atmosphere here in the interwebs. Most internet people are toxic as you may have witnessed. I am new to the coding world. For the last year I've delved headlong into the CLI and it's languages. The AOSP is still very foreign to me, but I'm getting a bit more familiar with source code everyday. I enjoy working with HMI's and I would like to start designing UX's for IoT hub interfaces and displays. There's so much to learn. I am a multipotentialite or a polymath, not to tout. That just means I know a lot about a lot. Also, means I MUST absorb all the available information pertaining to.. well.. everything. If there's anything I can teach or any way I can help anyone. Call upon me and there are no stupid questions. Only over-complicated solutions to simple problems. Thanks for having me! Take care!
Hello all, Not a lot to say about my self really. I am just another individual coasting through life. I've visited somewhat frequently here as a nameless lurker absorbing the knowledge of you brilliant minds. Not until recently had I felt inclined to post with a registered account. I am a hobbyist in both software and hardware. Don't want to overplay my skill level with any kind of title as I haven't yet earned those wings but I do occasionally have a mote of genius and attempt to help out anonymously but I've never been certified, nor employed as any type of programmer or engineer. I hope to expand my understanding mostly of mobile phone/tablet and laptop modding going forward but can't guarantee how much time I have to devote to any projects due to life in general. I at least hope to contribute something in my free time. Anyhow, look forward to getting to know some of you.
Glad to have you aboard XDA mate! Continue to enjoy the forums information!
Cheers
