Welcome to XDA! What computers do you use? Enjoy the forums, and let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,
I mostly buy second hand motherboards ex. game without the expensive videocard because the are often cheap and fast because most fanatic gamers buy every year the newest models MB's. And also the cases I'll buy second hand, I have some I3, I5 and I7 and 3 AMD's I use Windows7, Windows10 & 11 and Linux mint and next winter I am going to build my own NAS (NAS4Free-x64 software)
and I have also some older I mac's, iMac I5 Medio (2014), iMac A1208 (2006) and an iMac G5 Power-mac 8.1 (2004) and a couple of Windows laptops and Android tablets.
I also have a question, asked Whyskey103 yesterday but did not get an answer yet,
maybe you can help me with this:

Hello Whiskey103,
I don't know who to contact about this subject so I chose you :

May be you can help me , I am new on this forum and the first day
I could download the files (shortcuts) within the forum, but now I get :
404 Not Found

or another error message. Think something is wrong with my file-rights/ privileges
or must I first do something else to get the rights back?

I found out that a lot of older shortcuts within the forum are "broken" so do not exist any more. :-(

Chinese iphone clone

Hi!
I just got a phone bought in Dubai, that appears to be a iphone clone. The problem however is that i can't figure out which one this is. I've tride to open the phone, read trough the manual, tried MyPhoneExplorer in help of identifing it, with no luck.
Does anyone have any idea about some tools, something to figure this out? I can't even figure out which OS its running.
Yeah, im a newbie.
Thanks in advance.
Welcome to forums
This is an HTC devices only forum, hope someone can point you to the right place but do not expect too much as apart from not being HTC also is a copy
Good luck,
Thanks for your reply
True, i also have a touch diamond, thats why i love this place =)
just threw in a longshot in hope of someone having the knowledge of some tools or any advice at all regarding this strange device.
well what comes up when you plug the phone into your computer? (i'm assuming you have an appropriate cable).
I have several choices i.e mass storage etc, but the COM connection displays as a "MTK6255" which my OS (win7) dont recognize.
MTK6255 is the platform on your phone.
Try using the MTK driver from here:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=540559
might be a meizu m8...i have one
Don't think so. The M8 runs on Windows CE platform as described here:
http://www.techtickerblog.com/2009/02/09/meizu-m8-review/
i think i just found your phone here:
http://www.downtownkey.com/hiphone-3g-music-cell-phone-support-mp3mp4-bluetooth_p7403.html
Note the CPU.
SciPhone?
It might be a SciPhone.
This guy put together a review of a lot of the iPhone clones: http://home.comcast.net/~plutarch/Sciphone-i68.html.
There is a forum for SciPhones, http://www.mysciphone.com/English_Sciphone_Forum/index.php. I'd check that out too.
The MTK processors are really, really, really slow and do not run Windows Mobile.
I have a CiPhone C5, which runs on a 450MhZ Samsung Processor with Windows Mobile 6.1 OS. Much better than any of the phones you'll find at mysciphone.com. xda-developers.com has been amazing for learning how to use and modify my phone.
Welcome to the forum

Please guys!
Do not buy copies, they are cheap, bad quality and not long lasting
Buy the original stuff!
Thanks so much for replys guys, really appreciate it.
For the Sciphone i68-3G, its identical in looks, but i dont have any 3,5mm Jack
Whereas to the hiphone, I found this:
"How to find HiPhone firmware version
Call #*44673#1# and press "version info". You should now see the firmware version of your HiPhone."
Which dont work for me...
thesecondsfade: Is the MTK processor really that sucky? I really dont think i will be using this phone anyways, but I really just want to explore and learn as much as i can. But if it is that crap, i guess i cant do anything
I may have forgotten to mention that i found somewhere in the manual where it stated "mini iphoen" "mini iphone". -But aint so mini imo..

I know it's probably not as high quality as some of the other retail phones available on long data/phone contracts with the US cell phone companies, but I just can't afford that. I really wanted a new Windows Mobile phone without having to sign up for an expensive plan to get it... so I bought the CiPhone C5. I did a lot of research before buying it.

It's probably the i68+, not the i68+3G. The 3G model has the 3.5mm jack, the i68+ doesn't.

I had one for about a month and it was too slow for my tastes. The firmware was flawed as well. There is a website you can upgrade your firmware, but that'll cost you another $40 bucks or so... probably not worth it but you can decide that for yourself.

The Chinese clones are known to be sketchy when it comes to their manuals... or even in their descriptions of what they're selling. Most sellers just try to say whatever they can to sell the phones without really knowing what exactly they're selling.
Try putting *#8375# into the dialer.

Didnt work.
I guess ill sell this and buy the proper phone, HTC Hero
The only other dail code I know for the clones is *#433943#.
this works
*#11*# gives you the software version
that post... are you serious? Cause I would understand if it wasn't intentional... but...
that's just pure fail, in all it's beauty.

Hi,
I bought a Chinese phone, a clone of the Blackberry HS 9500 I think (looks like the Blockberry 9500 clone) and it has the Engrish manual as you might expect.
Given that I set my aims before purchase (I wanted a cheap dual SIM and not much else besides a media player, basic camera, bluetooth … couldn't care less about the TV/FM and so on) and, it isn't bad but the media player is fairly rubbish inasmuch as I have no idea how to get it to play a track (pref. a series of tracks).
A colleague, though, intrigued me with talk of alternate OS's for phones and given that its OS is by far the worst part of the phone (not bad but not good either) I wondered if cheap phones of this kind can be given a new OS and, if so, how I go about it?
Thx for any advice
Keke
I bought mine from Bigboxstores and within a week it had a dead pixel on screen. I emailed them and said I was returning it for a refund. I packaged it exactly as it was received and it was in mint condition. A whole month went by and I kept emailing them and asking if they had it, eventually they said they did and were checking it. I eventually got an email saying 'sorry no refund, phone works fine, has a few marks on it, thank you'.
No offer to exchange it or anything. I have resigned myself to the fact I have lost my money. Such terrible customer service and using a pony excuse to avoid refunding me. It's not like I'm gonna travel to China to get my money back.
My advice is steer clear of copies and do NOT buy from Bigboxstores as if there is problem with your phone, you will NOT get your money back.

any way to run ubuntu on blackstone?

hi everyone.
it's kingo, from my blackstone with energy rom 3.0 (nice rom!),and this is my first post.
i was wondering... is there any way to run ubuntu arm on our beloved brick? i assume it would be under haret, and would need some controllers for its linux kernel, isn't it?
if it is already possible, i'd be happy. if its not, would it be possible to create an ubuntu image for haret using the controllers thata re being developed for android?
thanks in advantage. i'm sorry if my english sounds like an autist monkey. blame the spanish state school...
I personally think thats an insulting reply from a senior member. A question was asked genuinely, no need for such remarks.
er, ok. you must be very fed up of people 'asking before searching' to anwer this way. I was the fool, so I'll keep MY sarcasm this time.
If it's been asked here before, it must be the first topic I google for and don't find xda treads.
I'll search to find out why mine is a 'stupid question'
I would personal like to see PSP OS on HD, both are using arm... right?
haha....
the question is reasonable in my point of view.
if theres a way for android... why should there be a way for (other) linux based OS.
k, maybe theres no need for it.. but hey, why reacting so harsh?
Obviously the HD doesn't fit the hardware requirements for the PSP OS.
¿Is it obvious that it doesn't fit the requirements for Ubuntu ARM? I don't know. That's why my post was a question. At least ubuntu code is free and many people try to port it to any suitable platform... And it can run on a 528 mhz and 288MB ram desktop computer, can't it?
I didn't expect to have compiz running smoothly on the HD. But Ubuntu Mobile, Ubuntu ARM, Ubuntu Embedded (I don't know the difference) are suposed to run on "embedded devices"...
Ok, first of attitude of a few people on this thread is disgraceful & insulting and I'll be contacting them shortly via PM.
Secondly, can I remind everyone this is a family website browsed by people of all ages, so try and keep language in check. This site is based on a community who share information, not insult each other. Please try and treat people the same way you would like to be treated!!
I'm closing thread to stop any further comments

[Q] First Post: Am I able to load Windows RT on my Blackberry Playbook?

Disclaimer: This my very first post ever on XDA. I saw the noob video and did everything I needed to do (Or so I think) before posting this question up. If by any chance I had missed the answer somewhere, please direct me towards the correct forum, as I'm still trying to get the hang of this. I also apologize if this question seems a little "stupid" or what not. If you have patience, please continue reading. Thank you!
So now that Windows RT has been released Microsoft Surface, it got me thinking...
I just bought a Blackberry Playbook (For like 90 bucks. Why not?) and consider it's quite the powerful machine for its time, I was wondering
if it's possible to flash the Windows RT OS on to the Playbook? Has anyone tried this? Does anyone have a hypothesis regarding its potential work arounds? Also, if I do this, and Blackberry 10 comes out in a few months, would there be a process available to allow me to boot back into the Blackberry OS?
If anyone can help me I would be most appreciative! Yay! finally joined XDA!

Firstly - don't bump your own post
Secondly - 81 views on a site with 4.7 million users just means that 81 people have had a look because they don't understand why you would ask that question on XDA
Thirdly - XDA is predominantly an Android-based site. There are no forums for the Playbook, just as there are no forums for ANY of the BlackBerry products. If you want an answer to a question of this then use Google or try a BlackBerry-centric site, such as CrackBerry.

Apologies , Moscow Desire and stinky dentist...
Guess I'm just tired (been up for 30 hours)... it was the whole orange color scheme and the fact I couldn't really understand the question upon my first reading.
And you're right, MD, I'm not a moderator... I overstepped the mark... sorry.
-----
@stinky dentist....
I don't know about the Samsung... but the N7 is a pretty cool device. If you're willing to go all the way with it (unlock the bootloader), there are some great custom ROMs to flash... and with a newly discovered exploit, it's easy to ROOT.
I suppose it depends on what you want to use the device for... gaming, browsing, etc. Flashing custom ROMs... Does the Samsung have an unlockable bootloader? The Nexus 7 does... and that is why it's such an attractive device for tinkerers like me.
Anyway, just my thoughts... you'll have to make your own decision of course.
Good luck... and once again, my apologies for being so short with you.
Rgrds,
Ged.
Thanks Mate. Cheers

No problem...
If you're interested in the 7inch form factor, and the Nexus 7 in particular, you might want to keep your cash in your pocket for a while, as there is a second generation Nexus 7 on the horizon, tentatively pencilled in for a July release...
http://www.pc-tablet.com/23388-google-nexus-7-2nd-generation-release-date-specs-android-50-updates
http://www.product-reviews.net/2013/04/16/nexus-7-sequel-sales-predictions-for-2nd-gen
There's a lot of baseless speculation, not least here on XDA, about this device and KeyLimePie (Android 5.0)... and even a putative further upgrade to JellyBean, namely 4.3. (If that happens, I will be astonished.)
If I were you, with money to spend on an Android tablet, I would hold off until the Google I/O conference in San Francisco (May 15-17), when it's expected significant announcements and product rollouts will occur... both software and hardware related.

What he said...
But if you need to buy one now, I would recommend N7... I am a Samsung fan and I own a few Samsung devices, but current gen N7 has better specs than Tab 2 7. One thing I miss though... is that Samsung has a microSD expansion slot. I miss this a lot on my N7 but other than that, I would consider N7 a better buy.

[Q] back into development

hey everyone glad to be a member again well glad to come back.
i was in a horrible accident in 2012 and with all the damage somethings in my life got turned upside down like everything lol. so before my accident i developed software. so my thought is to try to develope again. so i want to develop for the phone and the tablet any help or information in getting back into that would be awesome and links that can be provided or any suggestions would rock.
my goal is to get the hardware needed which that is a no brainer i am going to buy a tablet (yes the cheapest one i can find) and i am going to buy a smartphone. and i am going to get another laptop (yes just for development reasons)
now i have a few ideas on software to develop which no reason to get into bu what development tools should i start with and while i am not made of money are there free versions. i have been considered disable so would there be a discount if any for that reason?
i am just tying to get back into doing something can yall help a computer nerd out?????????

What do you want to develop ?
Developing software is a pretty vague term .
You don't really need a new laptop just for developing software.
For Android you can use Eclipse + ADT plugin or Android Studio . Both of these are free to use.

You can get the Kindle Fire HD as it's very cheap at about $129.
TapaTalk'd from a KFSOWI
Spoiler
Need help with your Kindle Fire HD 2013? Mention me and i'll help
Been here since 2014
As advice mention me if you need help and you need me.
not sure what i want to develop i want to make sure i can still program so i would be willing to create anything that interest me really. i am a gamer so maybe in that direction but i am also into other things so who knows what software i want to create.
the reason i am getting another laptop is to have some development hardware and then i would have a total of 3 laptops so my thought is 1 laptop to develop android software on the other laptop to be used for watching my netflix lol then the laptop i am on now would be used for research and sending emails and posting the way i am doing now so on the development laptop i can have the development going while at the same time researching a problem or looking for something to add to the idea of what i am doing. plus the 2 laptops i have now are old they are like 4 years old which isn't bad but with the prices at best buy now less then $300.00 can get another laptop that is very useable
