After several hours of research, fails, and a lot of hard work, I've found a way to upgrade your Galaxy S5 (G900F ONLY!) to the newest firmware (G900FXXU1ANG2), keeping root and knox counter on 0x0. And I decided to share it with you guys!
I tried this method with my device and worked flawlessly.
-If you already updated your firmware to ANG2 and didn't get root, you can downgrade to ANE2 (WON'T TRIP KNOX), root, and then follow this method. UPDATE: Or you can do it in a much easier way with THIS AWESOME AND EASIER METHOD (Post & Method by my friend @wajiman)
Notes:
-Make sure you have your S5 already rooted. (You can make this with Towelroot: https://towelroot.com/, this method will keep Knox 0x0) (Thanks @geohot for towelroot)
-Make sure of having at least 70% battery for security issues.
-Make sure you have BUSYBOX installed.
-Make sure KNOX is DISABLED.
-Make sure of having USB DEBUGGING ENABLED on developer options.
-Disable reactivation lock if it's switched on.
-I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE/BRICK ON YOUR DEVICE, THIS STEPS ARE 100% CORRECT, BUT IF YOU DO SOMETHING WRONG IT'S YOUR FAULT.
1. First you need to download the firmware. http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=32652
2. Extract the md5 file and copy it to your EXTERNAL SDCARD.
3. Flash it with MOBILE ODIN PRO. (YOU NEED THE PRO VERSION OR YOU WON'T KEEP ROOT)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro&hl=es
-Make sure you select the file in "Open File"
-Make sure you select the "Reboot into download mode after flashing" (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!)
-DO NOT select the Wipe Dalvik Cache Option. (As some users are reporting that probably Mobile ODIN Pro has a bug on flashing boots straightly into download mode instead of flashing, didn't happen to me though)
-Make sure you have the "Everroot" option ticked (FOR KEEPING ROOT)
4. After flash, you should now be on Download Mode, connect your device to your PC and on Odin, flash this 2 files:
Bootloader ANG2: BL_G900FXXU1ANG2.tar.md5 https://www.dropbox.com/s/tdiu7rc3tbr02j9/BL_G900FXXU1ANG2.tar.md5
Modem ANG2: CP_G900FXXU1ANG2.tar.md5 https://www.dropbox.com/s/rl3gh2ppvi4c9ty/CP_G900FXXU1ANG2.tar.md5
-On odin place the bootlaoder on BL and modem on CP.
-Make sure Re-partition is NOT TICKED.
-Make sure Auto Reboot is NOT TICKED.
-Make sure F. Reset Time IS TICKED.
5. After Odin finishes flashing, disconnect your device and BOOT INTO RECOVERY. (Home+Vol Up+Power)
6. On recovery, wait until it finishes applying the csc files.
7. Reboot.
That's it. Any question on the comments. If I can answer it, I WILL.
Please press that THANKS BUTTON IF THIS HELPS! :good: :victory:
You can also "buy me a beer" if you really want to, I'm currently unemployed so you would seriously help me out... "DONATE TO ME" button is on the left under my username,
"You probably paid $500US for your phone, think in the value that's added with root and this method."
You forgot to mention to disable reactivation lock if it's switched on or else Mobile Odin gets stucked in 2nd recovery AFAIK
Whoops!

hmm, strange, for me it first booted into download mode and i dont think it flashed the firmware at all. now it keeps on booting into download mode
EDIT:
@aguarello i repeated these steps 3 times already, i think there is a step which is missing because it keeps on booting into download mode no matter what i do.j
Found the issue:
i think its a bug in mobile odin. if you have selected "Wipe Dalvik Cache." the phone straight away boots into download mode without flashing the firmware and stays there forever unless you flash with PC ODIN
Finally succeeded

Why do we have to flash the bootloader and modem twice? Isn`t flashing the rom with Mobile Odin Pro with a data factory reset and wipe the caches enough? I downgraded from NG2 to NE2 yesterday with Odin and a flash and a data factory reset was enough, also for the modem and bootloader. Unlike custom roms where only the build (system) and kernel are flashed official firmware flash the whole package.

I cannot activate usb debugging so if you are right I can skip to flash the bootloader and modem. This is only reason why till now I didn't follow this guide....
@aquarello
Very big thanks to you. Works fine for me. Now I have a rooted NG2 with KNOX 0x0. [emoji106]

When in KitKat, and you don't flash this files seperately, the phone gets stuck in a bootloop (there's even a warning of this when you first open Odin Mobile), I've tried several times to do it without flashing seperately but as I told you, the phone gets stuck.
Flashing this files on the PC is not a big deal though, only 5 minutes and the files are very small...

There are comments confirming that this DOES WORKS.(plus I did this the first time with MY device and had no issues)
I don't have the experience nor the time to do a video tutorial, if anyone wants to, they're free to do it. (Instructions are pretty clear though)

much better answer for me THANK YOU
I rooted with ping pong root, followed these guides to do my "OTA" updates:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-flashfire-update-t3156221
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-to-of4-flashfire-update-t3181135
Then I used this file with Odin, to factory reset:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/odin-tar-files-sm-g920a-t3103835
Now it seems to have factory reset it but it says I have no IMEI, network unknown, etc....
I am suspecting that its something to do with those updates I did and flashing the Modem drivers, which maybe need to be downgraded now? or if i can update my software somehow with a legit version?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Gavin
To my understanding, the downgrade to OE2 from OE3 or OF4 causes these issues with the imei and such.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
from what I have gathered... seems right.
so I am thinking now if I can upgrade to OE3, or OF4 in a legit way... then my modem will work again....
but If i use the upgrades mentioned on those 2 threads, those are pre rooted? so ill just be rooted again (but working modem)
correct?
My files are working fine. the problem is that you're trying to keep root and the modem you flashed is NOT compatible with the bootloader you current have.
Sunderwear, no problem with your files at all, I think the problem is with me.
I am trying to remove root.
How can I put a bootloader on my device that will be compatible with my modem?
I had the same issues. I ended up using Odin to go to OCE, then OE2 then I used PPR to root, and used FF to go to OF3 then OF4. Cause a BUNCH of problemt so I went to BBuy and had them force a flash of the full OF4.
You could always try doing the Odin OI2 files and see if that leaves you fully updated with everything working. You will lose root and will not be able to downgrade.
Well, depending on your desired outcome (rootless OF4, or 5.1.1), you'll have to do slightly different things, both will wipe your phone completely.
To move to rootless OF4, just download the Full OTA from the bottom of the first post at this link this is where things get different.
The next step is to reboot your device to recovery, not download mode (hold power home and vol up). You may see a updating android icon, but nothing should be happening yet.
You should now see the manual menu for the recovery, select the sideload update option
On your computer with ADB, sideload the OTA zip Do not unplug your phone
Your phone should reboot and you're now running OF4 while rootless
For 5.1.1
Flash the ODIN files with ODIN
Please note, you must be already rooted for this to work: I made the same mistake of upgrading to of4. Here's what I did, and my phone works just awesome and is still rooted with the Of4 base band.
1. Odin 3.10.6 OCE2
2. Reboot, at this point you'll have no carrier signal/data.
3. Ping pong root, install flash fire.
4. Install Rayman's ROM, Clean ROM, or Dennis ROM with flashfire (wipe first!).
5. Download the of4 root update here. forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s6/general/g920aucu2aof3-to-of4-flashfire-update-t3181135 ONTO YOUR PC. unrar. Flash via Odin the two files you unrar'd according to these instructions:
In Odin put boot.tar.md5 in the AP slot.
Put modem.tar.md5 in the CP slot.
Leave all other settings alone and click start.
Reboot, and you should be up and running with cell data and carrier signal.

Worked like a charm thxs
I have rooted my phone using this video (watch?v=ygcDFTPT248)
I was on Android 9
Everything seemed to go well, but the Magisk app was not installed (only the TWRP one) and a root checker I tried told me I was not rooted
I decided to let it go, but now not only does Netflix not work but I cannot even use Smart View, so I want to unroot (Or return to the normal samsung bootloader, whatever will fix my issues)
I tried downloading multiple firmwares for my phone, but I cannot install them.
I downloaded Odin3 from the official page, I put my phone in download mode, set AP to the AP_... file and the others the same (I had 2 CSC files: CSC_... and HOME_CSC... and I tried both), but I always get a fail text no matter what firmware I try to get
Is there some app like Apple's iTunes that can quickly just put the official firmware back on my phone or what could I do?

Also with installing magisk if no manager app then you will have to install separately.

I have fixed my issue
Here is for others that might find this thread:
Current firmware: N950FXXU6DSF3
Firmware I am trying to flash: N950FXXSADTC4
Odin version: 3.13.1
Initially I was getting a big FAIL! in the box above my phone, with nothing else that stood out in the console besides telling me the thread ended
I believe I was accidentally putting one of the CSC files in the USERDATA box
I only used BL, AP and CP and I succesfully installed the software!
Thanks anyways, bro
Hi all, I have this A71 that yesterday was working just fine, and today is in bootloop for no reason at all.
The owner was as smart as to keep tons of important stuff on that phone with no backup, so I have this request: is there a way to pull anything out of there?
I can access stock recovery and fastboot.
I am really sorry to hear that you can maybe try to install twrp and recover the files with "adb pull" or accessing the phone storage via a pc (you need to have twrp installed) i don't know any other way besides this. If i helped you make sure to like my response
Solved simply flashing different version of stock ROM.
Was on Andrioid 10, flashing 11 via Odin solved the bootloop issue.

hello did you manage to keep all your data? i'm new i found the correct firmware for my phone , i have samsung odin.... do i just flash? it states that i will loose all info
Yes, everything saved.
Got the firmware from sammobile, flashed with Odin and retained everything: apps, settings, data, photos....
Just be sure to flash the HOME_CSC file and not the plain CSC, or it'll wipe all.

just to make sure that i dont mess up my bro's phone... i would unzip the firm ware and choose the Home_CSC file and put that in the odin csc box and flash... THANK YOU LOADS FOR YOUR HELP!
I flashed all the files: BL, AP, CP and CSC, the latter using the HOME_CSC file.
Once I finish downloading the firmware! I'll let you know! What happens . this is my last shot at this point I tried everything !
Thanks either way for your help!
sadly it didn't work ... the bootloop is still there....
i'm now worried about trying the normal csc and deleting everything without fixing the bootloop.... i wonder if its a mechanical issue
Hi, I need some help flashing my device. Somehow, my device got stuck in a boot loop last night, and I've been having trouble getting it to work again. I think my phone may have reset during an update while in my pocket as I was laying down on the couch last night.
I found my device firmware on sammobile according to the specs listed below. I've downloaded Odin 3.14.4 and have flashed my phone successfully 3 or 4 times at this point, but when it restarts post-flash, it keeps booting into download mode. I can't seem to get it to boot into recovery mode or just turn it off at all anymore. No matter what, it boots straight into download mode.
Does anyone know of a way that I can force it into recovery mode so that I can try restarting it normally? This is my first time flashing a phone, so I have little experience here though I am competent with technology and willing to try further tricks to get it working.
I'm just looking for recommendations and hoping that my phone isn't bricked. I've only owned it for 3 months at this point, so I'm very disappointed.
Thanks in advance for the help, and I'm happy to provide any more information if it helps you come up with any potential solutions.

I don't. I was looking at that post earlier and noticed that it mentioned the G998B/N model. Mine is the G998U1, so I was worried that it wouldn't work or cause more problems. I couldn't find any versions of TWRP that matched my specific model.
your bootloader version is above v1. cannot be unlocked. you need to flash a samsung rom. try redownloading it if you can't boot. and twrp probably won't work either.
you're saying that if you hold the vol up key and power button when the device is off that it won't reboot into recovery at all?

I was actually able to get it to boot into recovery mode this morning. The download mode timed out and the phone shut off which allowed me to finally get into it. I tried redownloading the same rom I got from sammbolie again a few mins ago but still no luck.
Try another firmware with the same BL revision, CVC9 for example

Was your phone carrier branded originally? And you're flashing the u1 firmware so you won't have bloat? Or is it originally an unlocked model? I ask because if it was originally carrier branded and you used the Odin version from the SamMobile site then that may be the reason. U need to use the modded version of Odin that's floating around somewhere. If you need it I can upload it to my drive and let you download that version. I literally just flashed VCB last night and everything worked just fine.

No, I bought my phone directly from Samsung, and I bought the unlocked model. I chose the rom from sammobile that looked to be exactly what my phone originally had on it based on the model and PDA/carrier info I found when looking through the recovery logs on the phone when the issue first occurred, before flashing anything onto it. If you think the modded Odin might work, I'd be willing to give it a shot.
I can't tell you the exact differences, but I would flash with the patched odin. it's on xda if you search for it.
No luck so far. I've downloaded the patched Odin software and have tried flashing my device numerous times with the same result. I also tried tried flashing firmware that I found on Frija instead of the firmware I originall downloaded from sammobile to see if anything would be different, and that didn't seem to make a difference.
My best guess (could be wrong) is that it doesn't like the bootloader tied to the firmware I've tried to flash onto the device. I've spent a good while searching firmware that uses the version of the bootloader it wants, but I can't find it anywhere. At this point, I'm all out of ideas, but I appreciate everyone's responses and advice.
So this is what you are saying: You're using patched odin (https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/odin3-v3-14-1_3b_patched-zip.5158507/) to flash an official U1 Samsung rom (https://samfw.com/firmware/SM-G998U1/XAA/G998U1UES5CVCB for example) in the AP slot, all other slots are empty, without any odin errors during flash, and are then unable to boot, with partition errors seen in download mode? This is very unusual... flashing in download mode overwrites partitions, including recovery. I would assume if there are no odin errors, then the rom file is not corrupt and the sd card is not damaged. I don't know much about flashing through odin with a locked bootloader, maybe unpatched odin with the above instructions is worth a shot. I'm out of ideas aside from the sd card being damaged or trying unpatched odin if the above instructions with patched odin are resulting in recovery partition errors. I don't think you can access adb in download mode either.
You can extract the CSC file using 7zip. In there you will find the PIT file and you can try flashing it with repartition selected and inserting the PIT file in developers section of Odin.

Interesting. I did not try it with only the AP slot populated. I thought you needed to always flash with the BL, AP, CP, and CSC.
wait, i messed up. if it has all of those files, flash them. my bad. i was thinking about custom roms - sorry about that.
Hey everyone, just wanted to make a final update.
I ended up bringing my phone into ubreakifix after trying just about everything I could, and they were not able to fix it either. They suggested that it might be a hardware issue and recommended sending it to Samsung for repair. I then sent it over to Samsung, and they confirmed that it was an issue with my motherboard. Samsung replaced my motherboard, and the phone is back in action. Since I only had my phone for about 6 months, it was still under warranty.
I appreciate everyone who took their time to provide me with advice. I hope that this post may help someone experiencing a similar issue to mine in the future.
