Hello, my name is Benjamin, currently a undergraduate student that has gotten very interested in electronics the past couple of months. 21 years of age.
I don't have excessive amounts of money to buy nice toys with or to experiment with, but I was hoping that I could gather wealth and buy an unlocked smart-phone, cheap.
I don't have extensive experience, but I really want to learn from this awesome community. I have been skimming threads and reading, researching and, finally I decided to stop lurking and come out in the clear and introduce myself. I admire the hard work of the seniors, veterans, juniors, semi-pros and other awesome people that think around problems on this board. Thank you already.
I have started hobby-programing python and perl, I have an unreasonable fear of Java, but will hopefully be able to start playing with it if I eventually do get that smart-phone.
So my problem right now is that I don't have a fun little device to play with, could anyone recommend a device that is:
Not crazy expensive
Will be able to connect to Wi-fi network
Will be able to run GV to be used as a VOIP phone
Unlocked and ready to be changed
Easy to access and play around with
Simply, I don't necessarily need it to keep a constant connectivity, just a small computer to toy with.
There are many approaches to the smart-phone idea right now, and your board has been very helpful, I just need a last nudge.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to introduce myself, and not be lurking anymore. I will try to keep annoying questions to a minimum.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Hello everyone! Long time lurker and finally hit an obstacle simply searching all of your great posts couldn't fix. I've been on android since my first smartphone while living in South Korea in 2010. I'm a tech savvy aircraft mechanic who built computers as a kid back when you had to manually find your own drivers. Getting ready to switch professions to the IT world with my upcoming military retirement. Looking forward to the interactions on here, hopefully bringing a few unique problems to be solved in the forums.

Hey there XDA Members,
I am Arihant Gupta, Second Year High School from India, taken computer science as an optional subject, 2 years of basic middle school and 2 years of high school Java Programming Student, I have this deep passion for learning things about computers but since i am from not so urban area I am having a hard time finding someone who could help me walk through this exciting technical world. I recently ended up bricking my phone while trying to root my device and also ended up having a hell lot of errors on Android Studio as a started to learn it online recently. Thus after so much trouble i finally ended up here a place where someone might help me through it. I wish everyone a good time.

Hi Arihant and welcome aboard, wishing you a good time too!
Hello all!! Glad to be back with Android after a several year long hiatus on iOS. I’m sick and tired of the Apple ecosystem. I finally broke down last night and order a Z Fold 3. I’m pretty intertwined with Apple but, like I stated, I’m tired of being locked into to what they feel like giving me. I’m excited to relearn about rooting and customization that are near impossible on iOS.
I’ve lived in Vegas for about 44 years and love it. My wife and I have a new to us dog. We rescued him from the animal shelter about 2.5 weeks ago. He’s such a great find.
I look forward to seeing you around on the forum!! Have a great day and good luck.
Hello friend, good luck here!
Hi, my name is Jose and I was born when TV was black and white, I built my first computer in 1986 it was a 386 w/ 40 meg of a HD and 512 bts of RAM LOL from then on computers have been a hobby as work and family took over. I do have programming knowledge but I'm not a programmer I know my way around a computer , unfortunately my health has been deteriorating so I simply can not spend as much time as I would like in front of one. Cell phone knowledge is limited but I believe I understand the principles of it : software in a small communication device .I have an Android which is a program that I'm not familiar with but since most programming languages are similar in a basic manner I guess with some help I can fix my phone, I figured. English is not my first language so forgive my grammar. I think I do well on this. I'm home now because of my health so I have time to dwell into this but again can't spend more than 30 or 40 minutes at the time in the computer ( sitting for long time is a painful problem ) I would inmensely appreciate any help from you young guys whom were born into this era or time with so much knowledge at your disposition , believe when I say that coming from Southamerica , we would have love this , having the net and everything it has to offer, the good I mean , the bad ,oh well we can learn to deal with it and go on with life. Greetings from an old dude. I joined the forum because I would like not to have to spend another $1000 in a new cellphone and also I'm stubborn and think that my cell does have a fix and I can find it.
