Question How to properly format my OnePlus 10 Pro - OnePlus 10 Pro

Hey everyone,
my op10pro became extremely buggy, system settings aren't being saved after reboot, the ui is becoming jank af, i am getting no notifications from any apps, popups are getting blocked... very annoying ****.
how can i fully format my entire system and start from scratch ? i am rooted.
i don't mean a factory reset, i already tried that. something that cleans deeper.
thanks in advance

Install a rollback package, maybe it helps (will install Android 12) or install the latest full package and format data.

I don't necessarily want to go back to an old version of Android, and i fail to see how it would help.
How do you suggest i format data ?

You can format data in recovery mate.
Or if you want a whole new OS then fastboot enhance (FE) will do it.
You can format using fastboot too but FE takes care of that.
PS: if you're restoring your apps after a wipe then that could be why it's buggy, let the system install then see how it feels, then restore only what you absolutely need.

[Q] i897 dont boot

I have Samsung i897 Captivate (i9000) with SlimICS 4.1.1 Cyanogenmod installed.
Yesterday morning I've found, that my phone is repeatedly show me boot screen (video on boot with many blinking pieces/elements colors shown to me), but did not load an Android at all. I've tried to reboot the phone (with battery eject), but nothing changes: phone shows start-up animations repeatedly.
Last my action evening before was setting alarm (usual task that I've done for one year probably). Dont know what reason to reboot was, maybe no free space available, but dont sure. Before this problem with load I have no problems with phone at all.
I have Clockworkmod installed, but there's no options to boot an Android in safe mode or some similar options. I could get access to the internal phone memory, but not for system partitions. I've tried to wipe dalvik/cache, fix permissions, but no changes at boot.
So could you gents help me to get access to the filesystem: I have memo's & uncynchronised contacts & SMS, which I would like to save before do anything. I know how to reinstall the system (I have backup for it, but not for contacts & memo's).
Thanks.

The I9000 and the I897 are 2 different phones. I9000 is the international version of the Captivate, therefor, if you flashed the I9000 bootloaders on a I897 Captivate, you'll have distorted colors/screen.
What exactly was done to the phone before this happened?
Pardon, I have AT&T i897 Captivate phone. I did not flashed, nor updated phone, nothing similar, that could affect phone booting process. Just set an alarm (default, from Clocks), then go sleep. In morning found that my phone stuck in boot process - it show boot-up animation but don't load OS.

Have you tried re-flashing the ROM (Without factory reset)? Wipe cache and dalvik.

No, I'm no so clean understand reflashing process, so worry to lost my data (I know that my contacts lie here - /data/data/com.android.providers.contacts , but can't found where memo's saved). I could choose "Restore /system" from
"Backup & Resore -> Advanced" in CWM, you mean this?

Reflashing your ROM won't touch your data as long as you don't wipe/factory reset. It's what we call a dirty flash, you just wipe cache/dalvik and flash your ROM again with the Gapps.
Thank you for the way to resolve the problem. Spend some time to understand the process of reflashing. Now I collected all files (bootloader, ROM, essentials, gapps and so on of my actual setup) and ready to reflash it with Heimdall.
But still have a question: is there any possibilities to get access to filesystem (for maybe just copy all files from system partitions into Big Brother) before take action in my case?
Will I get access to my contacts & memo's after reflashing? As I understand, if I reflash phone, /data & /datadata partitions (as part of freshy ROM reinstall) will be touched too, then I lost as minumum link to the Wizard Memo (and I'm not sure that installing it from Google Play will restore access to my memo's).
As you could realise, I have no actual backup of my data, so asking maybe dumb questions (
Could I simple use Clockwork's mod option "Restore /system" & "Restore /data" (as I have it in almost fresh backup - 2 months ago)? Will it be analogue to reflashing? Or it revert /system and /data to the stage when it was make, with contacts, programs and so on with 2 months ago state, not current?

I guess i wasn't so clear. What I mean by reflashing is to simply get in recovery mode and reflashing RemICS and their Gapps. Not to start fresh with stock.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
You explained well, errors on my side Resolved this issue with copying all data from filesystem, then reflashing with fresh slimrom . For those who fall into same situation: you could get access to filesystem of your phone trough ADB tool, and just copy sensible data to another partition/SD/device. See QtADB program also, very friendly for that.

Desperatly need to get data out of Huawei P10 VTR-29 (Possible soft-brick)

Hi!
!! This is quite serious! I need to get my data (pictures, videos) out of my phone, which is possibly soft-bricked.
I did the following in hope of more usage opportunities with my new phone:
[Unlocked bootloader + Rooted it]
1. installed TWRP following this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/development/testers-twrp-t3585256;
2. rooted following this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/help/root-huawei-p10-p10-t3589946;
3. installed few apps like greenify, wi-fi hacking apps etc, and everything was good.
BUT then 1 app (don't remember which) requested that it needs SuperSU and not the one root permission app that I had. So it asked whether I want to install it. I thought - yes, why not. Then it said that before it can install SuperSU it needs to uninstall previous permission app - I clicked OK. Then it kind of started, but then failed the installation. Ok, I kind of closed it and there were no problems. But after next restart of the phone it was stuck on boot process..
I dont really care about the phone, but data on it is so important. I tried sme fast hend methrods to boot it, like wiping catch, dalvik catch, but it did not work out.
Next I looked for possobilities to rescue data, but I didn't succeed.
Easiest mentioned option - to enter twrp and connect via usb seemed promising, BUT data are shown encrypted.
Please see the picture - I tried to be as precise as I could, so that you can understand the situation.
! I can beckup all data to micro sd card, but would it decrypt after new install of stock rom (e.g. from eRecovery that Huawei provides) and allow access or not?
Please help me. I am willing to have 1-on-1 skype chat and give some donations for this as it is so important.
To mention: Rescue apps like EaseUS seems to be useless, because they state to recover data from bricked device, but then after installing soft it askes to allow usb-debbuging, but c'mon, it's not booting up.. .
So,
1. Is there a chance to recover data?
2. Is it a good sign that 16GB of data are showing even if files are shown encrypted?
3. data are also showing on pc, when connected on twrp, but also encrypted.
Any help will be appreciated!
Additionally quite important question: at this state (possible soft brick + encrypted files), is there a chance that if I make a backup to MicroSd card of all the data and then take it our to reinstall rooted stock version of my android that later puting backup in will show my files that were backuped? Could ir be so that phone luckiliy decrypt them itself because it is the same phone? Hope this is clear what I mean.
OK, hopefully all is not lost.
First things first, be REALLY careful. If you start applying factory images, wiping things and generally messing about, if you don't know what you're doing you're putting your data in a lot of danger - Huawei devices do things in weird ways, so be super sure you know the consequences of what you're doing.
Now that's out of the way... it sounds like you haven't done anything to wipe the data. Also, you've already previously unlocked the bootloader which should put you in a good situation. You need to discount TWRP as a potential solution - there is no working decryption for TWRP yet on the Kirin 960 devices and from conversations I've had, it doesn't sound like that is imminent.
What it sounds like has happened is that messing about with root has messed up something on your system partition. Which should be fixable!
As a first step, this is what I'd do.
- Check which version your phone is on if you don't know already (you should be able to find this in ' /version/special_cust/VTR-L09/hw/eu/prop/local.prop')
- Find a full dload zip for the appropriate version (use FirmwareFinder if needed)
- Download the zip an extract the dload app
- Use splitupdate to split the images out of the dload
- Boot the device to bootloader ('adb reboot bootloader' or power on with cable connected and volume down pressed) then do 'fastboot flash system SYSTEM.img'
- Flash BOOT.img too
- Try booting
Hopefully this will fix it, but at the very least it'll get your system partition back to a stock state.
Let me know how it goes. Good luck!

What is 12gb of "other" storage data that I can not seem to find [OP3T, 128GB]

What is 12gb of "other" storage data that I can not seem to find [OP3T, 128GB]
Hello,
I just reflashed OxygenOS from Paranoid android after a clean wipe of data, system, cache etc. After set up, I realised there is 12gb of data being occupied under the "other" storage. I proceeded to factory wipe as well and I still have this 12gb of data.
I can not seem to figure out what this 12gb of data is. It is not the oem_logs. I do not have nandroid back ups. I do have around 4gb of titanium backup that I can account for. That means there is still 7gb of data that I can not seem to find.
Any help with figuring this out?
The only thing I could think of now was to wipe internal memory and flash the rom all over. Is that possible? I heard that wiping internal memory is a no no.
I have included some screenshots. If anyone needs more information, please ask.
(The massive app data is because this morning I finally gave in and redownloaded my spotify playlists. Spent 2 days trying to figure out this damn 12gb other data...)
Edit: Forgot to mention, I am on the latest OxygenOS stable. Rooted with latest Magisk and using TWRP 3.1.1-2
An update
An update.
I deleted the titanium back up. Other storage now shows 7gb.
I used DiskUsage to further pinpoint my data use. 10gb in System and 8ishGB in app data.
I checked System folder, it is 2.8 GB.
10gb minus 2.8gb means around 7gb of data that I do not know what is.
Try look into /storage/emulated directory. I had same problem and in this folder I found missing GB's of storage.
Any apk files you've downloaded, logs you've recorded all in that category. Even large flashable zip files and other firmware files are also under that category.

Twrp backups
If this happens even after clean flashing a new rom/any rom then its something wrong with the partition.
I was facing a similar issue where my internal storage was being dislpayed as 24.6GB (Instead of 54GB) total capacity.
Can be easily fixed by using twrp, Firstly create a backup of the entire Internal Storage (Media)
Step 1. Go to Wipe>Advanced wipe>(Select all partitions)>Wipe.
Step 2. Go to Wipe>Format Data>(Type YES)>Done!
Step 3. Repeat Step 1.
Flash your rom and it would be fixed.

I think you maybe right. I have flashed a few roms around and noticed it after flashing OOS. I do not know if it was also there before.
I do not care so much about my internal storage (media), I can afford to loose and restart all over.
Will wiping the internal storage be fine? I heard on forums that it messes things up.
Ill probably use OTG USB to flash the rom again. That should be good right?

I have done all sorts of things with my phone, i have even deleted the root folder using TWRP file manager and managed to bring my device back to life.
So I guess i can assure you that it wont do a thing to your phone if u wipe internal storage
Provided make sure you are using BLU-Spark TWRP.
(BLU-Spark-TWRP v45 for Nougat based roms &
BLU-Spark-TWRP V52 for Oreo based roms).
Do not use the official TWRP as it hasn't been updated since its 3.1.1.2 release.

I ended up doing the steps but I have TWRP 3.1.1.2. I am a bit out of loop, why is BluSpark better for nougat? I just knew that we needed a specific one for Oreo since TWRP had not been updated
For other people who may come here. I did follow the steps. From 5gb other data, I am now down to 0.8gb. I do not know what that 0.8gb is but ill take it for now.
Steps were
Step 1. Go to Wipe>Advanced wipe>(Select all partitions)>Wipe.
Step 2. Go to Wipe>Format Data>(Type YES)>Done!
Step 3. Repeat Step 1.
Step 4. Flash rom, gapps, etc etc
I DID RUN into a problem at step 2. I got an error and then when wiping or flashing rom, my /data would not mount. I googled and found that if you change the data to different format, ext4 and then abck to f2fs, the /data should mount and you can do whatever.
Maybe it is because of the TWRP version, I was on the latest 3.1.1.2.

Every folder except emulated directory. Firstly I thought that these other folders are links to their original location, but when I deleted that folders, original folders weren't affected. But delete it at your own risk! It could be coincidence, that these folders weren't linked to original ones.

With every new update of Oneplus (wether it be Beta or Stable) the bootloader & firmware might (or might not) get updated and hence if u use the old TWRP there are chances of being incompatible with the new builds/roms. If u notice BLU-Sparks TWRP releases, they follow a trend i.e. he releases a TWRP after every major update of Oneplus Roms which is basically to make sure that the recovery is compatible with the newer builds.
So i would suggest you to use the BLU-Spark TWRP to be on the safer side.
Hope i have cleared the doubt. Cheers. Good day. :good:

other than media files and unrecognized file extension
like .zip .apk .flac and etc

System update in TWRP - Wipe/format system partition

Hy People,
What is the impact if i wipe system and format system partition before flash an update in TWRP?
I will lose some data? Call log, contacts, accounts or other things?
I will lose any Magisk modules?
I will lose any Xposed modules?
I will lose any system changes i already made?
I like to reflash the system wiping cache/dalvik and the system, then format system partition and flash the same system image, but i dont want to lose any data. Its safe?
Tks a lot
By wiping system you're just nuking system, no data is going to be lost. You will have to say bye to every mod you installed to system partition, if any.
Magisk modules, Xposed modules, call log, contacts etc. are all stored in data partition.
You're safe.

Flashing ROM zip practically wipes (thus erases) entire system partition, but flashing one ROM on top of another isn't recommended, because it may bring problems such as force closes, because of incompatibility between databases.

I agree with the previous responses, but also add a few comments:
- If you are talking about a stock OOS update, you can often (but not always) keep your data when updating. This is called a "dirty" flash. But you should still plan on backing up your data before updating. As you may run into problems, and still need to "clean" flash (wipe data). As I like to put it: hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
- For a more minor update, for example OOS 5.0.1 to 5.0.3, dirty flash is often okay (as mentioned). But something more major, such as OOS 4.x to 5.x, a clean flash is highly recommended, maybe even required. Even with minor updates, clean flash is recommended, if you want to reduce the chances of any bugs or problems.
- Once you flash the update (again I am assuming you mean an OOS update) you will be unrooted. Flash Magisk immediately after flashing the OOS update (do not reboot in between!). This will get you rooted again, and also prevent TWRP from being overwritten by stock recovery (which may happen if you flash the update, and reboot before rooting).
- After dirty flash and flashing Magisk, your Magisk modules should be present and working fine. Somewhat obvious, for clean flash, you will need to install Magisk modules again.

System storage taking up huge space

Thanks for the response. Can you tell me what are the things included in the system storage? Thanks in advance.
No! is the short answer! But comparing my mi pad 4, mi 9 and even old banger of a galaxy S4 has a system of 6+GB. I'm currently using Ros and that's using nearly 13+GB.
I don't know what or why, but for example, when you install Windows 7 or 10, the file or disc size might 3-4GB but once decompressed, installed with all packages etc, the installation easily takes a LOT more than that - can't remember off hand tho exactly how much! I'd guess at 20oddGB at least, but could easily be off on that one.
Why don't you google it!
You might want to try using the built in cleaner in the security app. It can wipe app and system cache that can easily take 3-5 gigs of memory and also delete unneeded packages (the original zip files) used for system updates.
Cleaner apps that you download from the Play Store are useless since they don't have root access but the built-in cleaner on the MI 9 is a system app so it doesn't need root access. It is genuinely useful but it can also delete stuff you want to keep (like your music artwork) so I always look at what it plans to clean before running it.

Yes the system will take alot of space.
But you can reduce its size by removing all but one of you redundant local backups. Next clear your cache and remove any potential encrypted data that you are not using. Sometimes you can end up with a batch of unused encrypted data if moving from a the beta EU weekly to Global stable or from Mi-Globe custom to either EU weekly or global stable.
If rooted you can keep this from happening by flashing DM No verity after flashing something new via TWRP or by flashing the boot.image from the rom that the encrypted date is originally from. One certain way to remove it is to do a factory reset or formating user data if you have an unlocked bootloader and installed TWRP.
If you are still on stock and you still have a locked bootloader, you can just use the internal cleaning program or a program such as SD Maid which is an awesome program and very much worth buying the pro version

Yes I´m on the standard EEA firmware and have no intention to either unlock the bootloader nor to flash twrp and a custom rom. Thanks for the info!
The “descriptive explanation” you gave still doesn´t make a reference on how to wipe the cache partition. The cleaning app of the system doesn´t fix it and neither do SD Maid. I have since discovered that it isn’t possible to do it without unlocked bootloader and twrp, and so I will leave it at that.

You are on stock, you are overthinking the extra space. If it's not because of redundant local back ups. Its just temporary cache files. I already recommended using SD Maid and I suggested what to do if you are on stock. Otherwise your experience would be much better with the bootloader unlocked and rooted. But as you have stated for some reason you don't want to do that.
Here's a very helpful tip: If someone takes their time to give you more than just a one sentence answer, use common courtesy and click thanks. It's the only motivation for someone to spend their time helping you resolve your issue.

I`d say, be nice to each other, isn`t hard at all, we`re not dealing with money here, is just a lifeless gadget that you may sell it tomorrow, isn`t worth getting into "philosophical" debates
have fun and enjoy the forums!

No, Partition A only on Mi9. No seamless system update on this device.
